2021

Good Morning ALL! How are you doing this fine Wednesday morning? Alvin and I are well and had a good night’s sleep. The sun is shining most brightly this morning and I imagine that the birds are singing happily as well. Mr. Alvin is chirping away and staring at me from his little bed in my office. Life is good. Today is the birthday of one of my little friend’s from down the street, he will be “11.” I cannot believe how big him and his two little brothers are getting. Time flies. We were invited to stop by for an outdoor “Happy Birthday” driveway event.

I heard a couple of great tips for folks. If you have old blankets and towels (of course in good condition) – you can donate them to an animal shelter. That totally makes sense. I wished that I had thought of that sooner. Also if you have old luggage (of course good condition) – you can donate to foster care. The wee children when they go into foster care and if they move around …. lots of times they do not have a suitcase ….. only a garbage bag. If this is for real, that is terrible. We all have an extra suitcase that we are not using ….. how about making a donation. My tips for the day. Also one from my heart ….. if you see trash on your driveway, on the street or in the gutter by your home please pick it up and put in your garbage bin, please.

Yesterday I worked the late shift. Alvin and I enjoyed a wonderful walk at 3:00 p.m. on my “lunch” break. The shift went pretty well as that shift goes.

Today the temperature is going to be another +18 celsius ….. summertime, summertime, summertime. I cannot wait to plant flowers. Speaking of flowers. I brought my “Canna” Lily up from the basement to put her outside to enjoy the sunlight and “bad” momma I forgot to bring her in last night. When I thought of it as I rose this morning, I ran outside to check on her at 4:00 (that is when Alvin got up) and she was okay. Thank goodness. So I brought her in and will put Canna out for the sunshine a bit later this morning. So grateful that she did not freeze. So grateful.

Wishing you all a great Wednesday. Go out and enjoy the sunshine.

Continuing to live with kindness, respect, compassion and patience. Always working on the patience!

Always, Love Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Friday the 29th day of December, 2017.

Another bright sunny morning with no dark clouds in site.

The sky is a pale blue with smoke rising slowly out of the chimneys.

It is another bitterly cold morning which means once again no walk for us.

We are on the upswing if you will ….. today is the last day of bitter cold.

Now that was the forecast yesterday so it may have changed but I sure hope not.

Forecast for the first week of the New Year is to be walkable temperatures.

Thank goodness.

Yesterday I took down the majority of the Christmas decor.

Leaving up the Christmas Cards, one wintery wreath, my ADVENT Calendar which was a gift and a few small items upstairs.

Oh and there is he tree in my office.

The main floor looks BARE.

Two sleeps until New Years Eve.

Alvin and I will stay home and snuggle on the Eve of the New Year.

Last year I went out wasn’t gone long and went back home for me Alvin.

I just cannot leave the little guy home alone when I am not at work.

Our Christmas vacation just seemed to zoom by.

Isn’t it crazy how fast ten days can pass?

Well today is laundry, tidy up and put away things in the basement.

Rearrange mostly.

Time for a shower.

This cold weather just makes me want to sleep.

Thankfully it will pass soon.

I hope that you all have a wonderful day.

If you are wishing to do something in the NEW YEAR ….. how about VOLUNTEERING?

There are so many ways to volunteer.

You can help at a Seniors Home, Hospital or Animal Shelter.

You can help at a Shelter.

You can help by picking up trash in your neighbourhood OR shovelling snow for seniors or someone who cannot.

Deliver meals on wheels.

There are so many things that we can do.

Look around and find a need and fill it.

Simple as that.

Happy Friday.

Special Hello to: YOU, today because you are super special.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day….

Good Morning and Welcome to Wednesday the 18th day of February, 2015.

It is dark out at the moment.

Looking forward to waking up to a sunrise.

Last night after work I canvassed for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

I was reminded by the one donation that was made that it is a good thing we are doing when we volunteer.

She thanked me for volunteering my time.

Such a nice young Mom.

There were several people not at home, some said flat out “NO” and others said they would make their donations at a later date (maybe on-line).

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect so I thought that all went well.

I will pick another night to go out and see the others who were not at home.

Everyone should volunteer.

It is not only good for the organization that you are canvassing for but also for your own “heart” and well being.

Anyway ….. I think that I am going to do this again next year.

I used to canvas for various charities when I lived in Regina but this is the first other than Capital City Clean-up since I moved to Edmonton.

Which reminds me I need to sign up for the CCC-UP ……

Well almost time to leave for the office.

I hope that you all have a great day.

If given the opportunity …. go forth and volunteer.

There are always organizations that need your help whether at your local animal shelter or at a homeless shelter.

Someone can always use your help.

Special Hello to: all those folks who volunteer every day.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day….

Good Morning and Welcome to Thursday the 21st day of November, 2013.

It is fast approaching the crazy time of year when people feel the urge to buy everything in sight.

Most people spend way beyond their means.

I learned that lesson all too well.

For the past few years I have made the holidays about those people that I love, and not about buying the perfect gift that I thought they would want.

I made special gifts, took advantage of free items, refurbished items, gave my time.

Essentially, I gave from my heart not my pocketbook.  The first Christmas that I did this I spent $5.00 and that was on doggie treats.

With all the commercials, flyers and such it is almost impossible for people not to feel that they need to shop.

We should pay attention.

Take a look around the trash on December 26th.

How many things are tossed away because people did not like them or want them.

Selfish, perhaps.

But we have gone way too far.

Simplify.

Take the time to find out what a loved one might really want …. that might be a home cooked meal or someone to watch a child or a pet while they go out for an evening.

AGAIN FIND OUT WHAT PEOPLE REALLY LIKE AND NEED – NOT JUST SOME HIGH TECH GADGETS TO BE LIKE THE JONES.

Give your time to a local hospital or senior’s home or animal shelter.

Perhaps it might be a small basket of items that your sister might love – like her favourite shampoo, soap, socks or lipstick.

Make a hand-made book of coupons for different things using your time.

Simplify.

Our landfills are an indication of how commercial we have become.

Anyway …. my point is this.

Just give from the heart not from your pocketbook.

Have a great day and don’t stress about the holidays.

Give your time …. it is invaluable.

I think this Christmas we should all make something for loved ones or give the gift of your time.

Spend less …. less stress.

Give yourself a challenge to see just how little you can spend on Christmas but giving at the same time.

You will be pleasantly surprised.

Special Hello to: ALL THOSE FOLKS WHO GIVE WITH THEIR HEARTS …

Always, Carol and  Alvin
