2021

Good Morning All! I hope this finds you well this morning and it is Thursday. Second last day of the work week for me. Then of course, there is work to be done around the house and yard. I cannot believe we are coming up to the final week of October 2021. Fast approaching the end of another year and the promise of perhaps our best year in a long time. 2022, I think may be off to a slow start but by summer we will all be in a much better place physically, mentally, spiritually and financially. That is going to be my mantra.

Yesterday was again windy. I am not sure what that is all about but you almost have to tie everything down. Even my garbage cans that sit on the deck by the fence not too far from the back door blew over in the wind. There has been cardboard boxes, papers, plastic bags and anything else that can fly zooming around the neighbourhood. It is a reminder to please secure your garbage. Sometimes people leave things out near their garages unsecured and this is what may happen. Tuesday was our garbage day and all recycling is to be in blue bags except for cardboard which is to be folded flat, bundled and placed under the blue bag(s). Doesn’t always happen. Also I had a thing with my garbage in our new black bin, I guess I forgot to share. Anyway at noon on Tuesday I went out to see if the bins had been emptied. Tuesday was to be garbage, recycling and green bin pickup. I had it all. Just as I opened the garage door – I came face to face with the green garbage truck whose driver was trying to get around the corner of the back lane. He had to backup and inch forward several times before getting around the corner onto my part of the back lane. I can tell you he seemed to be more “oh well” than frustrated. I would have been frustrated. I can tell you when the planners were coming up with back lane access to semi detached garages – they did not think things through very well. Anyway when he was finally in place, he brought down the big arm to pick up my garbage bin (first time I had seen it up close). Up it went and when over the open part of the truck it flipped over ….. couple of bags came out but not the one with styrofoam. The arm shook the bin and nothing and finally the driver put it back down and got out of the truck. We said Hi. He loosened the bag. I said I am sorry (because that is what I do). The driver hopped back into the truck and the arm lifted the bin backup to dump the bin. It took a couple of attempts but then success. The bin was on the ground and the lid stays open. I waved to the driver as he left onto the next house. When I went to close the lid on the garbage bin – I noticed that the lid was bent. I was kind of mad as these bins are new, not quite two months old. I could just see pests and bugs getting into the bin. I put the bin back into the garage and went back into the house. In the house I texted my daughter in my anguish. She texted back to call 311 and that is what I did. I spoke to a nice young man who explained that I could put in a maintenance claim and the Supervisor would come out. If it would be fixed, it would be otherwise they would replace it. We did not discuss money and I feared that I would have to pay a large sum of money (they are not cheap). Anyway then a bit later it was back to work. This was the windy day that we did not walk at noon. After work Alvin and I went for a walk. When we got home I fed Alvin and then went to the garage to pull in the green bin. I found that the lid on the garbage can had closed properly. Someone was watching over me. I could not believe my eyes. It was perfect. Magic lid. So happy. Somehow it had regain its’ original shape. I did a happy happy dance.

Now it is getting late, that was a long story. Alvin is barking and perhaps has to go pee or something else. The sun will start to rise in a bit, still dark for the moment.

Wishing you a wonderful Thursday.

Alvin has a regular vet appointment at 3:30 today so I will be taking off from work at 3:00 so we can walk over there. Walking seems to take us longer now. After that grocery time.

Continuing to live this life with kindness, respect, compassion, patience, understanding, love, laughter and gratitude.

Always, Carol & Alvin

2021

Good Morning All! How are you doing this Sunday morning? Did you sleep well last night? We slept straight through for six hours and then up and then back to the sofa. Nice to have a solid amount of sleep. The skies are overcast this morning. We managed to get all of our housework completed yesterday. Only have to bring up the clothes that are air drying from yesterday and put them away. I think that I may clean out my bathroom cabinet. It wasn’t long ago but I feel it could be better organized. Likely time to put away the winter coats and things as well. But perhaps I will do that on the Easter long weekend as I will have four days off and a project or two is always good to have. There will be time for lots of walks and if the weather remains dry – I may get out to do a neighbourhood trash pick up. I have been picking up trash everyday now for awhile. It blows in front of my house or onto the lawn. Trash sticks in the storm drain grates and in the gutters. Garbage is everywhere. Seems to be so much this year. I cannot remember if I mentioned this when we walked to Alvin’s vet appointment on Wednesday there is a walkway. In the bushes on the walkway were what seemed like a hundred disposable coffee cups from McDonalds, Starbucks and Tim’s and others. I wanted to cry. It was obvious that people were finished their drinks and then tossed them into the bushes. What is wrong with people? Now this almost 64 year old woman who was appalled by their actions has to take her time and garbage bags to go and clean up their messes. On the bright side it is exercise for me. Also there are blue disposable masks everywhere and I mean everywhere. Come on people! Are you neighbourhoods like mine? People cannot say that it is only the old or poor neighbourhoods that are dirty and filled with trash for that is definitely not true. I am truly disgusted by some people. I wish that people would just carry their cups and masks and what have you to the nearest garbage bin or home. Also another reason for trash blowing about in our ‘hood is the lack of proper placement when putting out their garbage. Most especially the recycling. When Alvin and I are out for our walks, I see people put papers, egg cartons loose in a blue bin or cardboard box and what happens when the wind comes up ….. they end up at my house or on the street for me to pick up. So many people just leave crap laying on their lawns, in the gutters and on the sidewalks in front of their homes. They sometimes even walk around items instead of picking them up and putting said trash in their garbage bin. There is hope coming for garbage as we will eventually all have bins with lids and then garbage cannot blow about. Also will help keep the crows, ravens and magpies out of the trash. Hopefully it won’t be another decade until we have bins for recycling. I guess that is a heavy duty rant for a Sunday morning as I smile.

Well I guess someone needs a cup of coffee or three. Alvin is impatiently waiting at the office doorway giving me that look. What look? That look ….. impatience. Perhaps he has to go back outside. He went before we can back upstairs for me to have a shower. Oh well, old bladder, I get that. LOL.

I hope that you all are having a great weekend. I am looking forward to our walk this afternoon.

Have a wonderful Sunday. May you have some quiet relaxing time throughout this day.

Remembering to live with kindness, respect, compassion and patience (always working on).

ALLways, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Sunday the 30th day of December, 2018.

WINTER

The wind is blowing.

The sky is overcast and that white once again.

Part of the walk that I shovelled yesterday has now blown in again with snow.

The deck is inches deep with snow, once again.

It is snowing and the wind is tossing it around as if it were nothing.

Nothing that will at some point land upon the ground.

Asking me to shovel once again.

The wind’s voice is deep and arrogant making me feel cold even though I am warm inside my house.

Oh weather.

Winter is here.

There is no doubt.

At least for one day or two or even three or four.

That winter is here to stay.

Oh winter, with your cold temperatures, snow and winds.

Somewhere in my heart there is love for you.

Somewhere there is respect for what you can do.

Winter, your name commands it.

Winter, the final season of every year.

Winter, the first season of the New Year.

Thank you Winter …..

Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Wednesday the 5th day of December, 2018.

WOW, this morning is zipping along.

HUGE winds last night.

Snow …. drifts …. more snow and drifts……argh….. looks pretty though.

I was thinking that my Christmas tree on the front porch would have tipped over but thankfully it is still standing this morning.

The wreath is still on the door as well.

Lots going on.

We went for a tour of our “new” temporary office digs yesterday afternoon.

Our current location is going to be completely renovated.

So many things that need to be corrected and fixed.

So that is a good thing.

I love my new spot in the office.

I am in a corner by a window.

So nice.

Very grateful for that ….

My daughter gave me a ride home last night from work.

So nice to have that time with her….. always enjoy our time together.

We stopped at the VET on the way to my house so that I could pick up Alvin’s food (not out but will be in a little bit) and his glucosamine.

Saves me having to carry the food home.

Especially now that we have snowbanks everywhere.

We are leaving early this morning as my friend is going to the Deputy Ministers Office to work for the next three days.

So I will be at work a bit more early but that is okay.

I shovelled some of the deck at 5:30 a.m. and if time will shovel the front before I leave or will have to do it tonight.

Have to finish the Christmas Cards that are to be mailed tomorrow.

Just have to put photos in and seal them.

Almost done.

Then there are all the cards that I hand deliver …. neighbours ….. work.

Well I should fly …. won’t be long until the carpool is here to pick me up.

I have time to shovel …. if I move it.

Nothing like some cardio before work…..

I hope that you have an awesome day.

To all my friends and family in Saskatchewan …. I hope that the power is completely restored.

Wonder what happened to have the power go out over such a large area???

Keep warm and safe.

Happy Wednesday.

Special Hello to:  my sister ….. thank you.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Wednesday the 22nd day of March, 2017.

The wind has been howling and blowing for the past couple of days.

What starts out being warm temperatures then becomes chilly.

I think that I will don my long winter coat …. just because it covers most of me and has a warmer hood.

Yesterday morning I was cold waiting for the bus.

Well spring is officially here now for a couple of days and feels like March, should feel.

Mixed.

March is like your hormones out of control.

One moment warm and sunny and the next blowing and snowing.

Anyway that is okay.

In less than two weeks it shall be April.

Everything always feels better in April.

Have you noticed that?

Also Easter is in  April this year.

April brings back lots of fond memories for me.

Not likely for the reasons that one would consider but they are for me.

We are very blessed in Canada to experience different times of year or seasons.

There used to be more of an actual difference between them but not so much anymore.

Lots of countries have two seasons:  the raining one and the dry one.

We have spring, summer, fall and winter.

Some years spring blends into summer and fall into winter.

I remember crocuses in the spring and the smell.

The smell of spring.

There was a freshness with the snow melting and the rains starting.

Summer, we begin to feel the sun’s heat more and our summers felt longer.

Fall …. another one that held definite smells and feelings with the warm air and cool breezes.

Winter ….. well snow and cold.  I do not remember as many warm days during winter as now.

Well almost time to hit the road once again.

Take a look back to your youth what do you remember about the seasons?

Did you have four or two?

The differences between then and now?

Perhaps nothing has changed but I think there have been more changes than some are willing to admit.

Have an awesome Wednesday.

Special Hello to: my friends all over the world.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Saturday the 19th day of December, 2015.

Only 5 days until Christmas Eve.

Only 3 days of actual work.

It is a bit on the crispy side out there this morning but I believe that the temps are beginning to warm up again.

Yesterday afternoon my Penny (grand-puppy) had an appointment with our Dr. Karen so my daughter stopped by the house to see Alvin.

She also went to Costco for a few things and picked up some things for me ….. like a new big mat (at the back door), bananas and broccoli.

On her way home after picking up Penny from Dr. Karen’s they stopped by the house for a few minutes to say hello and to drop off the above items.

It is was quite stormy last night ….. blowing and snowing.

The streets were icy as I noticed while coming home on the bus.

Well today is the Christmas party.

The one that I always enjoy.

We three friends always enjoy our time together.

I love it being in the morning …..

It is still quite dark outside at 7:54 a.m.

Soon I will be hopping in the shower and getting ready.

I want to make coffee for my neighbour and take it to her before I leave.

She buys the coffee beans and I make the coffee as she likes the way that I brew it.

Works out great …..

I want to make up a plate of baking to take to the party and have to gather up the gifts and my camera.

Oh, I hope that I can carry everything …. thank goodness it is close by.

There are so many memories of our Christmas parties … I guess we have been getting together for five years now.

We met and became friends not too long after I moved here from Regina.

I love the stories.

The girls always have such good ones.

Well dear ones almost time to get this show on the road.

You know how fast time seems to pass when you are getting ready to do something.

I hope that you have an amazing day.

Enjoy your last Saturday before Christmas ….

Funny it will be Boxing Day in exactly one week from today.

Christmas will be a memory ….

Oh ……

Special Hello to: all those folks getting ready for a party …. enjoy.

Always, Carol and Alvin

The party begins in exactly two hours……

Thought for the day……

Good Morning and Welcome to Friday the 19th day of June, 2015.

It is a glorious morning here in Edmonton.

The sun is shining, the wind is blowing and the humming of the vehicles passing by on the highway a few blocks away.

All music to my ears.

I am off today from the office ….. took a day of vacation.

Tomorrow morning I am hosting a “Steeped Tea Party” and just wanted to be in “perfection” readiness.

So excited as I have not hosted anything for a long time.

It is always nice to do some baking, invite family and friends over to try something new or relish something old.

Happy Day.

In a little while my daughter will arrive.

She took their car in to the tire shop to have the tires changed and will come to my house after for a visit.

YAY for me and Alvin.

Alvin loves when his sister comes to visit.

Last night was one of those evenings when Alvin and I go for a walk that we stop and visit with neighbours along the way.

So great to have so many friends.

I think it is always important to know your neighbours.

It is good for everyone.

I have the best neighbours and I know so many of them.

Sure helps having the most social dog on the planet.

Mr. Alvin …… he likes to check things out.

Well time to go and get this day rolling ….

Finish writing up my “TO DO LIST” so that I do not miss anything….

No surprises from that aspect.

I like to be prepared.

Almost time to plug in the coffee …….

We hope that you all have an amazing Friday.

Maybe today will be the day that you will go for a walk and meet one of your neighbours that you do not know.

Maybe today you could take a batch of cookies or muffins to that elderly couple across the street.

Maybe today when you do go outside for a walk and see some trash blowing along … you could pick it up and place it into the garbage.

Maybe today is the day that you take some time for yourself and meditate ….. to grow stronger.

Maybe today is the day …. that your dreams will come true.

I hope all the best for you today, tomorrow and always.

Special Hello to: my sister ……. Hi gorgeous ….. we have to SKYPE….

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day…..

Good Morning and Welcome to Saturday the 7th day of March, 2015.

How are you doing this morning?

I am doing well.

The sun is shining and I can see the neighbouring trees blowing in the wind.

Thank goodness for the wind ….. it will help dry up the water/ice.

It was so icy on the way home from the bus last night.

I literally took careful and deliberate steps all of the way home.

This is my last Saturday off for a bit so I have a few chores to do.

I was thinking that I need a boost so I will colour my hair.

Mr. Alvin, I think it is bath time and perhaps a slight hair trim.

The house is quiet as the kids were out late at my son-in-law’s brother’s 50th birthday celebration.

I worked until well after 10:00 p.m. so was home after 11:00 p.m.

I love when Alvin sits on the bed and looks intently out of the window.

He zeros in on something ….. could be a cat ….. could be a wild “bag” that is flying around the ‘hood.

My darling.

I look forward to the time when I can spend more of my time at home with him.

How lovely to once again go on two walks everyday.

Especially in the summer/fall.

Well time to get this day in motion.

I am dressed – check

Bed made – check

Glasses on – check (just being silly because sometimes you just have to be)

Blog written – check

Time for coffee – check (have to made said coffee)

Time to start laundry – check

Have a great day – check

Special Hello to: all my fellow bloggers …. what a cool way to get to know the world.

Always, Carol and Alvin
