A New YEAR 2023

Happy New Year. Well it was an interesting end to the year for me, how was it for you? Did you go out and celebrate with friend(s) or family or both? Did you stay at home? Order in food or cook something special? Watch a movie and New Year’s Eve program? Well on December 31st, I received a phone call late in the morning from one of my friends asking me if I wanted to go for a walk. My friend Lucy. She is a neighbour of another friend Pauline. When she asked I thought she meant in the neighbour and with Alvin but she had other ideas. We finally got it sorted out and what she was really asking was if I wanted to walk near the River Valley. There is an access point less than a 10 minute drive from my house. I had never been there and had no idea what to expect. But I figured, I should get out and let her know that I would take Alvin out first and then I could be ready for 2:00 p.m., if that was okay with her. A plan was set. I went over in my head a list of items that I should wear for my 1-2 hour walk. Winter boots of course, winter coat, scarf, lighter gloves and pair of mitts and a hat. I normally do not wear a hat but this time, I figured that I would wear one and it worked out well. In hindsight, the only item that I could have used was my ice picks for my boots. The trail was not icy but it might have given me a bit more traction climbing up the slopes/hills. Back to the beginning. Lucy picked me up just before 2:00 p.m. and I said goodbye to Mr. Alvin. He had been outside for a pee and had water so he was good for a few hours. I also put up a baby gate to upstairs. The thought of him slipping when I was not at home, was not one that I wanted. We chatted during the course of the drive. Then we were there. Two cars were parked at the entrance so we pulled in behind. Next thing I know we were walking downhill taking in the most exquisite sites of nature. The trees were covered in frost and as the sun was shining but not too brightly they appeared to be almost grey. Such a beautiful sight. We both stopped to take some photos. We did a couple of selfies along the way. There was a bridge along the way over the river, the North Saskatchewan River, I believe. The trees were so thick and with the water being frozen over; it was not easy to see the “actual water” but we could see the bottom. We were walking up and down and down and up and then came the greatest incline and I could feel the breath being sucked out of me. Definitely not in great shape. I can walk on a flat surface for a long time but when you add an incline, man, I could feel it. But I did it and was very proud. Once we came out on the other side, Lucy asked if I would like to keep walking and take in the neighbourhood which was filled with huge brand new homes and some even being in the midst of construction, so we continued. Some of the sidewalks were shovelled and others were not. We both were in awe of Mother Nature. Decorative grasses were heavy with frost and looking more beautiful than during the summertime. The branches of trees were heavy with the frost and in some places, the frost was so heavy on the small branches that the slightest of breezes was making it snow. The air was warm for this time of year. I believe it was about minus 9 celsius which is perfect for walking. When we came to the end – we turned around and went back. There is something about going home that makes it much easier than going. The incline did not seem so high. We stopped along the way out taking photos and admiring Mother Nature’s achievements. I am so grateful to Lucy for calling. She had wanted to take one last walk at the River Valley for 2022. Then I was home. We said our goodbyes and she was on her way. Lucy will be at work and already working for a hour and a bit. Alvin was happy to have me back home.

I let Alvin outside for a pee and then we snuggled for a bit before time to think about supper. I think it was about 3:45 when I arrived home. Suppertime arrived and I feed Mr. Alvin and then prepared my supper. After deciding on roasted vegetables, I prepared them and popped them into the oven. During the time supper was cooking, I decided to see if I would be able to transfer the information/data from my old computer to this one. Well I was able to do so but was sad to find out that my new computer does not have enough memory to hold my 45,000 + photos. They are on the cloud and on another online data storage facility but I no longer have access to them at my fingertips. I will have to figure something out. Clearly I need to go through them and weed out the poor shots and the duplicates. I know that for a time some of the photos were duplicated when uploaded/downloaded whichever it is called. Anyway, I was able to set up the new computer all by myself. In between, I went downstairs and checked on dinner.

I am having company for coffee at 10:00 a.m. and it is almost 9:00 so I need to sign off as the shower is calling me.

The sky is painted pretty oranges and pinks this morning. Oh, we did not stay up until midnight last night. I was too tired. I watched Guardians of the Galaxy before heading to bed about 9:30 and sent off a few texts to family and friends wishing them a Happy New Year. Of course, after I was tucked away in bed, I remembered a few more that I forgot but I just could not drag my body up to send another text. Today I will send messages with wishes for a Happy New Year. Also, if someone calls you out of the blue and wants to do something that is a bit out of your wheelhouse, say “yes.”

I did try to see if I was able to “air drop” my photos from yesterday’s adventure onto this new computer but Miss Siri was not too helpful. I will try again later.

Happy New Year. All the Best for 2023. This year is going to be the best one yet.

Continuing to live this life with kindness, respect, compassion, love, laughter, understanding, gratitude, focus, possibilities and coffee.

Happy New Year with Love Carol & Alvin

Last Half 2022 – October

Good Morning ALL! How are you this Autumn Wednesday morning? We are doing much better this morning. Yesterday was another gorgeous fall day. We enjoyed a walk later in the afternoon.

Oh Happy Day, today is the 14th Wedding Anniversary of my daughter and son-in-law. Alvin and I wish you a wonderful Anniversary. Congratulations on 14 years married. We love you both.

Poem time.

LEAVES

Sitting with my Alvin on the sofa,

Looking out the living room window.

Our view of the world.

On a bright fall day.

Watching the leaves from our tree,

They move slightly upon the branch

A little dance, from side to side.

A slight breeze disturbs the dance,

The breeze carrying them down, down, down.

Fluttering softly to the ground.

Their home since spring, early summer.

Their colours changing from vibrant green to fall gold,

as the season continues.

Their life now over, they will give back to next spring,

from their bed upon the ground,

nestled in between blades of grass.

Oh you beautiful leaves,

Thank you!

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Sunday the 28th day of April, 2019.

A glorious pale blue sky greets this Sunday morning.

We have been watching a magpie out of our bedroom window with much interest.

I understand where the old phrase came from “too fat to fly.”

This little one had such a round tummy that he/she would land on a branch and the branch would break ….

To be honest they were not really branches as we would deem to be moreover twigs.

Down the beautifully coloured black and white with blue/green feathers would fall to the next twig.

Twigs snapping everywhere.

If only he would land on a bigger branch.

Finally after what seemed forever the birdie got out of the entanglement of twigs and landed on a larger branch before flying away.

Only was a few seconds but did seem forever.

Nature is so entertaining.

Earlier this morning as I was opening the living room blind before it was light outside; a brown bunny was hopping toward the house.

I guess he heard the blind movement turned around and hopped to the other side of the street.

There remains snow on the front lawn which faces to the north and some on the grass in the backyard.

I would think by the end of the day if the temperatures does warm a bit more it will be gone.

What a glorious morning we are experiencing.

I found a new battery pack and it has been charged so I was able to download some photos.

These are from our Easter package:

This was the first time that Mr. Alvin actually needed helped opening his treats from our friend V.

One of them was a toy and he pretty much had it opened but the other was a tin of wet food and he just could not get his paws and mouth in unison to work it open.

Between the unexpected trip to BON TON Bakery and the goodies from our friend and a piece of apple pie from Teddy’s Mom; I shall say that I have enough comfort food

to last me awhile …… CARB City.

The third photo in of the Easter Bunny was carrot cake with cream cheese icing …. OMG, so good.  The photo does not do it justice.

Perhaps I should have snapped it without the plastic covering.

The above two non-treat photos are from this morning.

I shovelled most of the snow from the deck yesterday and the remaining has all but melted.

The furniture looks so much happier without being covered with snow.

Well time to get this show on the road.

We had a very lazy day yesterday.

Just laundry and spending time with the boys.

Ok, I did sweep the floor and empty the dish washer.

But does that really count.

Do not think so.

The wind was so cold we opted to stay indoors and did not go for a walk.

Today there remains a few things to do and one being to hit the grocery store.

A woman can not live on CARBS alone.

Or can she?

I likely could but sooner of later my body would say “enough.”

Happy Sunday.

I hope that you are enjoying the day wherever you are ….

Special Hello to: My daughter, you will do great.  We are with you.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Friday the 26th day of January, 2018.

Well we have snow.

Beautiful white snow.

In the morning it was snowing but just the tiny round balls or appeared to be so.

They did not really collect throughout the day.

It started to snow around suppertime – about 530 p.m. and did not stop at bedtime.

During the evening I decided to go out and shovel as we already had a very thick blanket covering the deck and front sidewalks and it was not stopping.

Alvin came outside with me in the back yard.

He looked so cute covered in snow.

So I shovelled and shovelled and this morning you can barely see the shovel marks.

Oh well, we are in winter.

Snow happens in winter.

Good exercise.

Yes, I guess so.

I can definitely see shovelling in my future.

I do love the fluffy stuff.

Easy to shovel and easy to walk through.

When I look out the bedroom window I can see how some of the snow has laid to rest on the branches of our tree.

Ever so carefully.

So beautiful.

So white.

Well almost time to get this show on the road.

I am leaving the house a few minutes earlier this morning to allow for the snow.

As I know most of my neighbours did not shovel last night.

Happy Friday Everyone.

Special Hello to: my fellow bloggers, thank you for reading and for sharing.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …….

Good Morning and Welcome to Saturday the 20th day of June, 2015.

It is a bright sunny gorgeous morning here in Edmonton and I am so excited.

The deck has been washed, flowers watered, grass trimmed, raked, tree had a manicure – check.

I even took the branches from the tree and placed them in a big container I had on the deck that had some dirt in it along with some solar lights and watered it well.

This morning the branches continue to look amazing and are a welcome addition to my deck.  Love them.

The floors inside have been washed, bathrooms done – check.

Baking and more baking done – check.

Dusting and whatever else I could think of has been done – check.

Just writing my blog and then time to get this Momma all cleaned up – check.

With time for COFFEE, of course …..

It has been a long time since I have really entertained.

I love having different kinds of parties.

My first “tea-par-TEA.”

Just less than two hours till the consultant arrives and then party guests.

We had rain yesterday late in the day and overnight ….. the grass and trees are so nice and green.

Thank you Mother Nature for giving some extra colour to my yard.

YAY ……

I am so grateful to live in such a beautiful house and have such a gorgeous yard.

Thank you so much.

My first house and I am so proud to be a homeowner.

It has now been over six years and I love it as much as I did on the first day that I unlocked the door with my own key and walked through the door.

Well I am so excited ….. better get going and get showered and dolled up.

What a great day.

Following the tea-parTEA, I am going with my daughter to a GALA that Shoppers DrugMart has been hosting for years.

We used to go for many a year and then missed a few and now we are back…..

This is a great Saturday.

Later on me and Alvin are going for a nice long walk around the big lake north of us.

I hope that you have an amazing Saturday.

Take care …..

Be kind to yourself …. do something nice for YOU.

YOU deserve it.

If you are good to yourself – you will be good to others.

Special Hello to:  all those folks out there who are hosting a tea-parTEA today …. enjoy.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day…..

Good Morning and Welcome to Thursday the 15th day of January, 2015.

Another gorgeous morning here in Edmonton.

Yesterday was a balmy plus 5 degrees celsius.

How lucky are we?

VERY.

So is it climate change, global warning or just a mild January?

Alvin and I are enjoying our walks in the warmer temperatures.

We try to make a difference and recycle …

Not purchase a lot of prepackaged foods so less containers to recycle.

We use “cloth” shopping bags.

We do not use chemical cleaning products.

I do not throw my trash on the ground ( I am the one that picks up other’s littering ).

Maybe on this day …..

Just take the second if you see a piece of paper or cardboard or some other piece of litter on the ground and PICK IT UP.

FIND the nearest garbage can and throw it in.

It breaks my heart to see pieces of cardboard and plastic floating in our nearby lakes and bags caught in the branches of trees.

We can make a difference ….. one piece of litter / garbage at a time.

Today I am deeming this: PICK UP LITTER DAY … KEEP OUR NEIGHBOURHOODS CLEAN.

Just think of how proud you will feel.

Truly we can all make a difference.

Well time to go and pick up this morning’s poop (puppy power) from the back yard.

Keeping things clean and tidy is a good thing.

Have a great day.

Oh and thank you so much for helping to keep our neighbourhoods and planet clean.

All of the creatures that cannot speak will certainly appreciate it and me, too.

Alvin says thank you.

Then he will not find something on the ground and get it into his mouth before his Momma can retrieve it.

Special Hello to: all of my humans.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day…..

Good Morning and Welcome to Sunday the 5th day of October, 2014.

It is a glorious morning here in Edmonton.

The sun is shining and it is warm already promising to be amazing autumn day.

The leaves are so beautiful and still lots hanging onto the branches.

YAY.

Alvin and I still have to have our annual photo done so always nice when there is leaves on the trees.

Did I mention how much I love fall?

It is so beautiful …. the colours …… the feelings ….. just love it.

Oh there is a bit of a breeze out there ……

Hang on dear leaves …. please.

I managed to accomplish most of my TO DO LIST yesterday including some extra things like totally repotting all of our house plants.

One plant had been overwatered (by me) and the water was sitting causing a stink …. so it was good to have them all done.

They look good, too.

I would imagine if I were them …. I would be shouting at the top of my lungs …… THANK YOU ….. FINALLY …… THANK YOU.

I am so sorry plants for causing any discomfort …… poor things…..

Well almost time to leave for the store.

I hope that you all have a glorious Sunday.

Enjoy the day and if possible take some time for yourself.

Special Hello to: all those music lovers ….. are you watching “THE VOICE” …. so much talent out there.

Always, Carol and Alvin
