Last Half 2022 – September

Good Morning ALL! Thank goodness today is Saturday, I love the weekends. I get to putz around my home, perhaps see some friends and family and go for walks with Alvin. I am making a list of all the things that I need to do before you know what arrives, I cannot even bear to utter the words, so I will leave it up to your imagination. If you live in Western Canada or Canada, you will know exactly to which I am referring. Now I do very much love certain elements of that time. Fall arrives officially on September 22, 2022 which is not long off. I have plants to winterize in the house, the big tree out front to trim, the back flower bed to get ready, finish the front (which will be about a five minute job), clean the outside windows that I can reach and show be getting especially the gutter of the porch cleaned as it is full of crap. Anyway that does not include putting away the furniture from deck (which does not take long) and cleaning out the remaining flower pots. So lots of outside things to do. There is one item on my list that I must find someone to give me a hand and that is trimming the tree. The branches are too high for me and even with a ladder holding that long pole trimmer, I can imagine that would be way too much for me. The pole has a bit of weight to it and with the sharp blade tool on the end and having to pull the long string to work the blade, nope not for me. I do trim the lower branches every year by myself. Perhaps later today I will try and do some.

Inside the house the blinds need to be cleaned again, they sure seem to be getting dusty more quickly. I would love at some point to remove and replace them. They have been good to me and done what they needed to do but some of them are discoloured from the sunlight which happens over more than a decade. Another item on my list. Oh that dreaded list! Do you have a list? Oh, I am sorry, I neglected to ask how you were doing this day. How are you? Very well, I hope.

Perhaps with a long list of things to do, it will give me the energy and drive to actually do more than a bit of cleaning and laundry. With the heat over the last few weeks, Alvin’s health issues and the work stuff, I am exhausted. Not burned out, I don’t think. I just need to lay down for about three days and sleep, lol. Okay, perhaps a slight exaggeration!

The temperatures are going to be just perfect this weekend. 25-26 degrees celsius. Cooling off in the evening. My kids and grandpups are camping for one last time. I hope that they were warm and comfy last night and tonight and tomorrow night.

Tonight I am actually going out. Signe invited me and Gillian over for a paint night. She has the canvases and the picture that we are going to mimic. They are always fun. At first, I thought with Alvin and stuff, that I would stay at home with him but I realize that all I do is stay home with him except for the odd 45 minute trip to the grocery store and now the days going to work. Work does not count. That is not for fun. So I am going out. YAY, me. Signe’s folks are visiting from Eastern Canada. I love to see them, her Mom is so much fun. I know her the best from previous interactions. So I know that I will have a good time. Surrounded by friends is a good thing. If you have been just staying home – time to get out for a bit. Have some laughs and special time with family and friends. Yes. Alvin will be okay for a couple of hours or so.

Tomorrow I am having some neighbours over for a visit. That would be Cookie’s family. With the return to work on the near horizon, I am looking at all the possibilities for Mr. Alvin. It does take a village and I am accumulating one. Not much time so I am working on it.

Also I need to get busy and contact the bank regarding the mortgage renewal. Honestly, it would be so wonderful to own the house outright. Just me, myself and I. That is a huge dream of mine.

Well the coffee has perked and I need to get dressed and get this day going although it has been going for awhile. Whoops, time to pay bills as well. Better not forget that. I love to have my bills always paid on time. Also helps to look at it as though you are helping to pay someone else’s salary and not just give money to the owners or shareholders or whatever.

Have a wonderful day. Stay warm and safe. I hope that the fires are going out near Jasper and all around us. I feel for the wildlife that have been lost and injured and those left behind. Humans have a much better chance of getting out of a wildfire. They do not.

Continuing to live with kindness, respect, compassion, patience, love, laughter, understanding, gratitude, focus, possibilities and coffee.

Fall / Autumn and the new fall t.v. lineup is right around the corner. My fav shows will be back.

Always, Carol & Alvin

P.S. Sometimes I think it would be nice to have someone to share all of this with in addition to Mr. Alvin. He is not too great at trimming trees or paying the bills. But he sure is darn cute.

Living … One day at a time.

Hello,

Mixture up above this morning.

Front of the house ….. bright sunshine

Back of the house …. clouds rolling in ….

This week, last week and the coming week ….. all with rain in the forecast.

Well for now the plants and trees and lawns are enjoying it so much as you can tell by the vibrant greens of the plants.

My IRISES are blooming.

They are a miracle flower.

The stems are so long and thin it is a miracle that they can hold up this beautiful LARGE flower.

I could not help but to snap multiple photos …..

They do not last for a long time and I wanted to enjoy them while I can.

I am hoping that you enjoy them, too.

Alvin was looking out the window from his favourite chair last night as I snapped a couple of photos of the IRISES.

The tree photos are from this morning.

So excited to see bright sunshine and blue sky.

I still cannot get over the green.

Feeling LUCKY IRISH, today.

I should have worn GREEN.

Back to last night.

Alvin and I enjoyed a wonderful walk.

The geese were out gobbling up food near the water at the entrance to park last night.

There were multiple families and the baby goslings all different sizes.

So cute.

I could have stood there or sat in the grass (a patch without goose poop) and watched them all night.

Alvin just sniffed paying no attention to them whatsoever.

They were watching him though.

Very carefully.

Lucky me, I do not have to catch the bus this morning as my neighbour is giving me a ride to work.

My carpool is on vacation, camping.

Well it is almost time to leave for work.

I hope that you all have an awesome Wednesday.

Yes, my friend V it is Wednesday already.

Time flies when you are having fun.

Reminder be kind and respectful.

It always begins with self.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Ah, Alvin is snoozing on his blue blanket beside me.

COUNTDOWN: 60 Days to 60

Today is Saturday, July 30, 2017 and it is the 40th day until my 60th Birthday.

CORRECTION:  JULY 1ST, 2017 ….

The sky is overcast and it is to be a warm day here in Canada as we celebrate our 150th Birthday.

Yesterday at work I was reminded of my most favourite summer.

It was the summer of 1973.

One of my school friends and I had decided to go to Edmonton and get summer jobs.

My cousin and her husband were gracious to let me stay with them.

I got a job as an Executive Assistant at a large corporation.

We had both applied and I got the job.

I am still to this day not certain how that came about …..

The man I worked for was so kind to me.

I do not remember doing much actual work and was terribly spoiled.

I had zero office experience and remember learning how to use the “paper copier.”

He treated me to coffee and treats from the “Coffee  Cart” that came around the office at coffee time.

Even had me go and do some shopping.

In addition to having that great start to my off the farm work experience my cousins treated me to a summer to remember.

We went camping and ended up in a flash flood as we had set up camp on a dry river bed.  Quick exit.

They took me to see Charlie Pride at the Jubilee Auditorium and so much more.

BEST SUMMER EVER.

Always, Carol

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Wednesday the 10th day of August, 2016.

Today was the birthday of a very special life force in our lives, our beloved Penny.

AKA: Penny Lane Hobbs.

She came into our lives with all the zest and zeal of a puppy, and that she was.

She chewed things, was adventurous, had a mind of her own and had the best voice and knew how to use it.

Penny loved walks, FOOD but most of all loved her Mom, Dad and big brother Elton.

She accompanied them on camping trips and loved to be outside exploring.

Alvin and Penny were a force to be reckoned with whenever they were together.

They played and they bugged each other and they played some more.

She left us in March and we were profoundly sadden by her departing but the memories of her will stay with us for an eternity.

A rose for our girl …….

Amanda's 33rd Birthday cake

The cake was for Amanda a few years back but it is appropriate that I post a photo of a cake in honour of Penny’s love for food and for her birthday.

Happy Birthday Penny.

We loved your energy and were so grateful that you were such a big part of our lives for over ten years.

We miss you and think of you every single day.

I was happy to be called your Grandma.

Rest in Peace our baby girl.

Love Your Family…..

Special Hello to: all those who share a birthday with Penny ….. have a wonderful day.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Sunday the 24th day of July, 2016.

WOW, how can it be?

The 24th day of July?

Crazy, hey.

Well on this bright and sunny Sunday morning I am enjoying the cool breeze that is wonderfully drifting into my windows.

The office feels delightful ….. cool and warm all at once.

My neighbour and I held a joint garage sale yesterday.

It was not successful by any means regarding amounts of things sold or money made but we had fun.

We ran it from 9 a.m. and closed it down at 2:20 p.m. – we met some nice folks.

Alvin stayed out with we girls all day.

It was not hot by any means and he had water and the house close by.

But he enjoyed with me and the girls.

One family from South America ….. they have only lived in Canada for two years.

The family’s favourite thing to do in our Canadian summers is to go camping.

They go to Banff because it is so beautiful.

After the garage sale the girls went home and I tidied up and had a bit to eat before we went out to run a few errands as I needed a few items for my TEA TASTING.

This afternoon I am hosting a TEA TASTING in my home.

We are going to have four different tea blends.

They are made into COLD / ICED tea beverages.

One with water and lemon, another with ginger ale, one with wine and the other with plain water.

I am not a wine drinker or a drinker period but my neighbour had this wine on Friday with the Citrus Mint Sangria and I knew it would be a good fit.

Will have to check the label and let you know.  It is a popular summer wine around here.

How do these tea blends sound:  Peaches & Cream which is a white tea; Jenna Cherry Jubilee, Citrus Mint Sangria and Summer Berry Sangria which are all fruit teas.

They are going to be yummy.

Will report more about the tea tasting with more details and some photos later on.

Mr. Alvin will be so happy to see his sister as she will be attending.

My leader is coming and he loves her.

We are hoping for a good turnout.

You never know …..

Some say yes.

Some say no.

Some say maybe.

Some say no and come anyway.

That’s okay.

Well I suppose I should hustle as I have a few things to do before the TEA TASTING begins.

There are a few hours but time always has a way of racing by …..

I hope that you are having a great summer weekend.

Looks like today is going to be warm.

Yesterday was a bit cool but refreshing after Friday’s 27 and higher with the humidity.

Take care.

Special Hello to: all my family and friends near and far.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Oh no, I hear some sirens blaring in the near distance.

Thought for the day…..

Good Morning and Welcome to Sunday the 25th day of May, 2014.

Holy Crow is it really May 25th.

Well you know what this means?

Summer if officially right around the corner.

YAY ……

Time to dust off your surf boards,

Make sure your shorts and tank tops are washed.

Put air in your bike tires.

Air out your tent.

VACATION TIME.

Do you have big plans for this summer?

Are you going to the beach?

Are you going camping?

Are you going to visit your family and friends?

It is the time of year that we all look forward to ….. almost as much or perhaps even more than Christmas.

That would be a close call for me.

For me, I have washed my shorts and tops (no longer wear tank tops alone ….. okay sometimes).

I opened the garage doors at both ends ( just in case we want to have a garage sale, it smells nice and fresh).

I bought new shoes ….. Skechers – Go WALKS …. they are sprayed as advised by the store clerk and READY TO WALK.

So excited to wear the new shoes today ….. first pair of shoes in a few years…… YAY.

I am doing more deep breath exercises to build my lung capacity (sounds good).

So on this Sunday morning as I prepare to go to work at the STORE …. it is overcast but warm outside.

I hope that you have a perfect Sunday and that you are enjoying preparing for summer and vacation.

Even if you stay at home you can still enjoy your vacation.

Special Hello to:  my sister ….. ran out of time to SKYPE but maybe we can touch base tonight after I get home from work.  P.S. I did call our brother “J” ….

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day…..

Good Morning and Welcome to Saturday the 3rd day of May, 2014.

WOW, here we go.

May …..

Summer is right around the corner.

Do you take a summer vacation?

Perhaps you take the family and go camping?

Or perhaps you and the family hop in the car and drive to see “Grandparents” or “Siblings” in a faraway location.

ROAD TRIP …..  could be a day trip…. the possibilities are endless.

Or maybe it is just you …… you hop on a plane ….   go visit Vegas to do some shopping ….  see some shows.

All sound nice.

Maybe you take the vacation days you have earned and just stay at home.

Catch up on things …… then sit out on the patio or deck and just enjoy the fruits of your labour.

Whatever you do ….. time away from work is always a good thing.

Time to unwind and relax.

Even if what you are doing may not exactly be “unwinding or relaxing” …… it is in a different environment and that is what helps you to recharge those batteries.

Being around different people and doing things other than what you do for employment helps you.

I hope that you are all able to slip away and enjoy those “summer days and night.”

I would love to see my family and friends.

My daughter and I would love to take a road trip.

I would love to see more of my relatively new home city “Edmonton.”

Like the river valley that winds through the city.

Driving by in the early morning on the way to work entices my senses and makes me want to go check it out.

So start thinking …. start planning or I am sure you already have ….. right!

Take the well deserved time off …..

Even if you do not get vacation time … always good to take a few days off of work to enjoy yourself.

Think about the possibilities.

There are always things to do and price wise…. do what you can afford.

Have a great Saturday.

I can hear laundry calling me and also the rake …. front lawn needs a good “combing” ……………………..

I will be back tomorrow.

Special Hello:  everyone …..

Always, Carol and Alvin
