Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Thursday the 22nd day of March, 2018.

Well we did not wake up to any additional “white stuff” on the ground or in the air.

So I guess that is a good thing.

They are forecasting a couple of spring storms over the next couple of weeks and one starting today.

Are we excited?

Mmmm, not so much.

Okay enough complaining about the weather.

Actually the temperatures have been nice.

Yesterday was plus single digits.

It is spring in Canada and that is the way it works.

Always a mixture of weather.

So on this Thursday, Mr. Alvin joins me in the office as I write this blog.

He was right beside my chair and as I typed those words and looked down – he was gone.

I guess he figured the carpet is more comfortable in the hallway.

He would be right.

My poor guy and his ears.

I hope that they both heal soon.

Well I am running late – stayed up a bit later last night.

I hope that you all have an awesome day.

If there is anyone / anything in your life that intimidates you – remember this.

No matter who or what, YOU ARE AMAZING and  YOU MATTER.

YOUR FEELINGS AND THOUGHTS MATTER.

There are always going to be those people that get under your skin, and somehow manage to take an intelligent people and make them sound “stupid.”

Have a great Thursday.

Special Hello to: my daughter who is the wind beneath my wings, always.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Thursday the 12th day of November, 2015.

Happy Belated Birthday to my nephew “T” ….. hope you had a great day.

Part II

Well yesterday did not have a happy ending.

I wished that those small creatures would just stay outdoors.

Anyway ….. I washed my winter boots and wore them on the main floor (no carpet) as they were my strength.

Alvin stayed close thank goodness.

We managed to get through most of the day …..

I cut up and cleaned the huge Halloween pumpkin.

Half of it I gave to one of my neighbours and the other half I cooked.

It was so yummy warm with some butter, salt and pepper.

Alvin had some plain ……

It was after that which was about 5:00 p.m. that I realized Alvin had not had his supper yet.

So I opened the pantry door …. grabbed his bowl and his food container and about that time … the MOUSE ran out of the pantry …. SCREAMING, I managed to place Alvin’s glass bowl on the counter and yell instructions to Alvin who by this time was in hot pursuit of this not welcome guest.

Screaming I watched it run under my fridge and I managed to get Alvin to come to me.

It did not come out.

I scooped up Alvin and ran over to the neighbours.

Gasping and sobbing I told them the story ….

“S” came back to the house with me.

Decided to put down the sticky traps not that I particular like the thought of them but I cannot live in fear.

One in the bottom of the pantry …. (removed Alvin’s food container and the two boxes with garage bags).

After that was done …..

While she was here I put back into the fridge my salad ingredients because I did not want to stand in the kitchen.

Grabbed the last muffin and two oranges and we stayed in the living room.

Twice I quickly walked Alvin to the door and outside.  I went with him.

This morning no sitting at the kitchen table to write in my gratitude journal.

No lemon water.

No oatmeal.

No banana at the table.

Instead I grabbed Alvin food container out of the bathroom (next to the pantry) and fed him.

We both went outside.

I grabbed a banana from the table and we stood near the edge of the cupboards at the living room entrance and shared the banana.

Then I took my journal, pen and our water and came upstairs.

In just a few minutes my neighbour is coming over to check the traps before I leave for work.

One is in the pantry and the other in the oven drawer (which is empty).

I feel so helpless even though I am much better than the first go around with those little beasts.

I just wished they would go elsewhere …..

Thank goodness for great friends and neighbours and Alvin who truly is my hero.

I think he knows …..

Well I better start getting prepared … downstairs …. Alvin will need to go out again.

Funny how something so small can make you so scared.

I know how people feel that have these phobias ….. not fun.

I hope that you have a great Thursday.

Hopefully the deed is done and that is that.

I will be wearing my boots regardless for a few days ….. will have to buy some indoor foot wear that has solid soles and goes up the calf.

I feel somewhat guarded … protected.

Special Hello: to my nephew “T” … I called you but your phone was not in use …. perhaps you stopped with the land line…..

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day ……

Good Morning and Welcome to Monday the 6th day of July, 2015.

It is bright and sunny with a very slight breeze here in Edmonton.

By the end of the day yesterday it was shorts weather once again.

We had a lovely Sunday me and Mr. Alvin.

Well Mr. Alvin is still getting used to his new “stool” (ottoman) for the bed.

I thought because it was longer and a bit wider than everything else we have tried that he would like it.

Not sure at this point.

He will jump onto the bed using it as a halfway jumping point but hesitates coming down.

He looks as though he is studying it carefully ….. then jumps avoiding the ottoman landing on the rug.

I have a narrow piece of carpet that is placed carefully under the ottoman to give it extra grip.

Hopefully he will get the hang of it and be comfortable using it.

He has such short little legs, and he is now middle age so I want him to be careful.

Man, can he jump.

For a little guy he has a high long jump.

Oh dear, me Alvin….. what shall we do……

I just worry about him …….

Well back to work after having a few days off followed by the weekend …. it was a glorious five days.

I sure do love being at home…..

Well here it is almost time to leave for work ….. picked up my bus pass yesterday so that is good.

Wishing you a Happy ….. Happy Monday.

Special Hello to: my daughter …. thank you for a great Saturday …… it was so much fun…..

Always, Carol and Alvin

Dusting off winter …… getting ready for summer !

Today started out to be a quiet day, and then I decided to wash the outside of the house and the windows.  But before I could do that I had to hook up the garden hose.  Yikes.  I would like to know who designed these things.  It took me several minutes with Alvin howling on the other side of the fence, and me getting soaked.  Finally I grabbed a wrench and gave it a couple of good turns and it tightened, and did not leak. LOL

I did manage to give the house and the windows a good spray down.  So that was good.  I left Alvin in the house because I figured one of us getting soaked was enough.  Oh, the sprayer leaked, too.  Is this something that happens every spring, OMG I sure hope not.  Drove me nuts.  I kept saying to myself, thank you for this sunny warm day ……..

At the end of it all, I brought out all of the deck furniture and got it set up.  Even “planted” some flowers.  This is funny.  I am a FAN of the Shopping Channel and last summer for some reason, I bought several gadgets and gismos.  One thing I got was this roll of seeds that is supposed to grow into this beautiful English Garden.  So last summer I put some fresh dirt in a planter and cut a strip of this roll of seeds and planted them.  Kept them watered all summer.  I even read the directions.  LOL. Well, by the end of the season a few flowers had come up and were even pretty but they were sparse.  Not even close to what they showed on television.  So as I still had a good roll of these flowers left, I decided what the hey, plant them.  So I did.  I will let you know if they actually grow.  By the way,  Alvin figured that I was giving him a big watering bowl.  He was in there like a dirty shirt!  So I will have to keep an eye on him.  Should be fun when I start planting flowers.  I will say that he followed me around the yard and deck like a shadow.

So that was my day – dusting off winter – getting ready for summer.  Oops I forgot that I cleaned the propane barbecue as well.  Or at least as well as I could.  I think that I need a power washer.  That would do the trick.  Perhaps, a trip to Canadian Tire would be in store………

I sure wished that Alvin was more handy !!

The little guy is tired and laying down in the hallway (where there is a bit of carpet).  So I guess all the going in and out of the house and garage played him out.  Well, it was fun.

I think that I need to clean out my closets and the basement but not today!  Still trying to get all the dirt and grease off my hands.

Ah, I love this time of year !!!
