It is a NEW YEAR.

Good Morning,

This morning comes with news from last night of the passing of a little fur baby friend of ours.

His name was Casey.

Just a little guy but such an endearing soul.

He always had a soft spot in our hearts.

He was very much a quiet little guy but his presence was felt by us all.

Occasionally there was a little bark.

Casey endured some health issues over the years.

Thankfully he is now free of discomfort and pain.

We always enjoyed having him in our house for a visit.

Our family will miss him very much.

Casey with Alvin

Casey will join our Angels Penny and Elton.

They will be resting on the lush green grass in a meadow just for them.

Under a bright blue sky.

Perhaps some pretty flowers and some trees for shade.

Perhaps with a little breeze.

With stations of cool water and doggie treats galore.

They will never want or need for anything.

They will forever be in each other’s company.

Rest Peacefully, we shall miss you little buddy.

Forever in our hearts and minds.

A little piece of my heart has gone with you.

Forever yours,

Carol & Alvin

I want to add to this post that we always thought of little Casey as a part of our family.

We were always happy to see him and missed him when he wasn’t there.

Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Monday the 11th day of March, 2019.

Yesterday was so WARM with no breeze.

I decided yesterday to take Mr. Alvin to our friend’s birthday celebration.

The cats and Alvin did well.

He kept his distance.

Cricket knows Alvin but Casey has only joined their household last October (2018) and she wasn’t quite sure.

Both are used to dogs but everyone knows that sometimes there can be moments.

Casey did take a swipe at Alvin but he was not close and he retreated to the safety of his Mom’s legs.

Funny how that works.

Poor Alvin had wanted to say hello but Casey was not having any of it.

He pretty much stayed beside me the whole time except when our friend opened the fridge as he knows she keeps the treats in there.

We had a great visit and was interesting watching two cats and a dog navigate their time together.

After the visit we headed home where I quickly changed into boots, coat (had light jacket on) and mitts and of course grabbed some “poop bags.”

Our friend J had left the party when we did and by the time I stopped in and got changed she was outside with Jazmin.

She had not planned to go for a walk but when she got home Jazmin gave her the sign that she wanted to walk.

Miss Jazmin is I believe 14 years old and has a heart condition.

Somedays she just doesn’t want to go.

Yesterday she was excited to go and she tried and mostly kept up with Mr. Alvin.

They get along so well.

I was so happy to see her out and enjoying the warm day.

We had a great walk.

Perfect end to a perfect day.

I think that Mr. Alvin is beginning to dream “CATS.”

We were surrounded by CATS this weekend.

AND Miss Jazmin, who is a doggie.

We missed seeing Master Teddy this weekend.

Well back to work today.

We had a great day.

Quiet and relaxing and FUN.

I hope that you all had a great Sunday.

I hope that if you are in the “time changing zones” that getting up this morning did not hurt too much!!

Wishing you a wonderful Monday.

Listening to dogs barking in the distance.

One sounded big.

Happy Monday.

Special Hello to:  everyone who READS, whether it be this blog or another, a book or a magazine or a newspaper.  JUST READ.  Read to your children and grandchildren, too.

Thought for the day ……

Good Morning and Welcome to Thursday the 19th day of January, 2017.

Guess what day today is?

It is a very special day in my household.

Today is Mr. Alvin’s Birthday.

It was on this day seven years ago that I adopted my handsome wonderful companion, buddy and friend.

So we are celebrating his “8th” Birthday as we are not exactly sure how old he is ….. how great is that.

He can be any age, really.

So today we are saying No. 8.

Happy Birthday Alvin Charlie Lewis.

I hope that you have enjoyed our time together thus far as much as I have ……

Love you Buddy with all of your quirks.

I love watching you bury your chew treat in the back yard winter or summer.

I love watching you searching for something by putting your whole face in the snowbank as if you could see in there all the while I know the power of your sense of smell.

You are so funny and always make me smile and laugh.

I want to post some photos from over the years and also my blog from April 2010 written about our first days together.  The other night I was reading some of my older blogs and came across this – oh so many memories.

Alvin, the story begins …. Chapter 1

Monday, January 18th, 2010

Last night my daughter Amanda was over to watch the Golden Globes with me.  We both love to watch the award shows.  Avatar won for Best Motion Picture and James Cameron for Director.  Sandra Bullock for Best Actress in a Drama.  We had supper and enjoyed the evening.  Over the past few weeks and months we had been discussing the possibility of me “adopting” a dog. Why not, I thought.  This past eighteen months has been chalked full of firsts for me.  I have always loved dogs.  We had checked out the Humane Society’s web-site a few times but the smaller dogs went fast.

On this day, I was taking care of my “O” my neighbour’s cat.  This is one of those cats that is definitely an one person feline.  I had been around her a little bit and knew what to expect.  Deep down, I believed that she would get to “love” me or at least like me.  LOL.  Anyway, I made sure that I had my legs covered, and also carried the “cat toy” …. mouse on a stick supplied by O’s Mom for protection.  The first day, O jumped, swatted and hissed all in one smooth motion.  Oh, this is a cat that has a heart condition and takes medication for it.  Crazy.  Anyway both of us got through both visits that day.

Back at home, my daughter had sent me the link to an animal rescue web-site so that I could check out the doggies.  There was one in particular that she thought fit the bill.  He was so cute.  His story very sad.  So I went onto the web-site and “fell in love” (so cute), before I knew it I had contacted these folks about adopting this dog.  It was important to act fast as all of the smaller dogs were adopted quickly.

By evening, I was contacted by a gal from the rescue society.  She told me that there had been lots of interest in this puppy.  So she was going to contact her superior to see about making the next move.  Someone would call me the next day.

Sweet dreams.

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

Another successful visit to “O”‘s house.  One would never know that she had a heart condition.  I am so grateful that each morning it is getting lighter, earlier and earlier.  Spring is on the way.  Big news this morning.  Received a phone call from the foster Mom of a little dog.  Possible dog adoption on the horizon.  We are going to see him tonight.  The whole family is going.  It is important that Elton and Penny like this possible new addition to the family.  I am going to run out to the nearby “Bone & Biscuit” store and pick up some food and toys, just in case.  I want to be prepared.  Oh, have to get some treats, too!   I am so excited, and so nervous at the same time.  This could be my very first dog.  Wow, this has been a year of firsts for me.  But I am so grateful for all of them.  We are going after supper, and it is a bit of a drive from here so will write all about our visit tomorrow morning.  YAY.

DAY “1” – Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Guess what happened last night? It was crazy.  Took us a little while to find the place because it was out in the country. But we did.  We were introduced to this cute little guy.  His name is Alvin.  He is a cocker spaniel mix.  Puppy.  They think that he is about one year old.  Has a black & white coat with the most handsome brown eye-brows.  Elton & Penny seemed to like him well enough.  He has a sad story but is blessed to have such great foster parents.  I know that he is going to have a great life.  So no looking back.  Okay, get on with it.  I know.  I am too wordy sometimes (okay, LOL all of the time).  Arrangements were made for me to adopt him last night.  He is on antibiotics and other medicine.  Whew.  Hard to believe – it happened all so fast. One minute we were trying to find the place, and the next we were on our way home with three dogs in the car.  He was so stressed, the poor little guy.  Thank goodness for the “blue blanket” that his foster parents had given him, as he was drooling so bad the whole car ride home.  When we got back to my house – it was surreal.  It was late when we got back so once I introduced him to each room of the house, and he had some water and a bit of food, it was off to bed.  I had no plans of him sleeping in my bed but I felt so “sorry” for him that he ended up there.  He was so stressed that neither of us got any sleep.  I was reminded of my first night home from the hospital with Amanda.  I kept imagined that he stopped breathing, which was crazy !!

It was an early morning considering neither of us slept much last night.  He has to be fed every three hours, and has medicine so I am busy.  Also first full day of looking after “O” next door.  Should mention that I made my first mistake with Alvin.  After he ate his first meal today I thought that I would send a quick e-mail to Amanda.  I thought that he would be like Elton & Penny and that I would have a few minutes before he needed to go outside.  He did not make it.  First lesson learned.  I do not have much carpet in the house and he did manage to miss it.  Thank goodness for that……

Guess what happened when I got home from feeding “O” in the morning?  It actually started when I left the house.  Alvin stood at the living room and cried.  Sounded like a baby’s cry.  Separation anxiety, I was told later.  I made a quick trip next door as I couldn’t bear him crying.  When I got home, I unlocked the door and faster than a real “bolt of lightning” something black and white passed me.  I twirled about and almost fell on my “butt”.   Thank goodness that I had my boots and coat on as I did not have time to grab them.  I ran down the steps, and down the sidewalk as he got nearer to the street.  Man, puppies are quick.  Just as he was about to step onto our busy street, I bent over and swooped him up.  My heart darned near jumped out of my body.  I was so scared.  What a first day !  This was only the morning.  The rest of the day went fairly smoothly.  Lots of feedings, administering medicine and pooping.  Thank goodness he is trained.  As he is not neutered it will be awhile before we can go on walks.  So it will be playing fetch for exercise for a bit.

Oh, the life of a pet owner…….

Here’s to many more happy years together.

Special Hello to:  the Birthday Boy of course ….

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Friday the 16th day of December, 2016.

Only 8 sleeps till Christmas Eve.

Time if flying by.

Yesterday Baby Milo and friend Casey spent the day with Mr. Alvin.

My kids set up a puppy cam and until I got home they did pretty well.

They make quite the trio.

One baby, one middle aged and one senior senior.

All guys ….. yikes.

Yesterday I received a surprise email from my friend “V” back in Regina.

She instructed me to check my mailbox after work.

Which I did and what did I find but a huge parcel.

It was heavy …..

Addressed to both me and Alvin.

Lucky boy.

When I walked into the house I had all three babies to distract me so I did not get to opening the parcel until about 1/2 hour later.

Alvin was so excited and kept jumping up as I unwrapped the box.

One parcel had his name on it and he seemed to know.

So I gave it to him and he partially unwrapped it but before baby Milo got into the paper I helped open it.

She gave him a toy and some treats ( I opened the bag and quietly gave him one so that the others did not see).

Casey has bad allergies and cannot have anything other than his food.

Also as of late he seems to be having a problem eating his food (the kids had mentioned that he didn’t eat in the morning).

I remembered from Alvin’s dental visit that they said to add some slightly warm water and let the food sit for a minute or so and then it will soften.

Voile, it worked.

Casey ate it all.

Well I have to run …. getting behind here.

Lots to say but not enough time.

Have a wonderful day.

I will be back tomorrow.

Special Hello to: my friend “V” – always so thoughtful.

Always, Carol and Alvin

P.S. I got lots of good yummy treats to eat.

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Thursday the 15th day of December, 2016.

9 sleeps till Christmas Eve.

Really !!

When did that happen?

Still pretty cold here in Edmonton.

Double digits below celsius and then add windchill in some cases, and it is COLD.

We, me and Alvin quickly puppy proofed the main floor as Baby Milo is coming to spend the day with Alvin.

Also coming along is “Casey” ….. he is in a family of friends to my kids.

As Milo has not met Casey as yet, and Casey has some health issues thought it better to bring them all here.

Mr. Alvin will look after them all and I will see if I can leave a couple of hour early today.

They should be here shortly.

Looks like baking will be on the list for the weekend.

That will be good to have that done.

Not many things left to do and that is great because there is only 9 sleeps till Christmas Eve.

I hope that whatever you are doing over the holidays before and after Christmas that you are safe, healthy and warm.

I think that I ate a bit too much in this before Christmas time ….. I can feel it around the middle.

So time now too watch and be aware of what I am putting into my mouth.

I am not starving so no need to stuff myself ….. not like I am running out of food anytime soon.

I guess I had better get going before the company arrives.

We will have to get things set up …. like a gate around the Christmas Tree – how cool is that!

I hope that you have an awesome Thursday.

Special Hello to: my friend “P” ….. Thank you for reading my blog.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day…..

Good Morning and Welcome to Sunday the 1st day of February, 2015.

Good-bye January it was a great month and February will be an even greater month, RIGHT !!

We are off to a good – good start as the sun is shining and the temperature feels pretty good.

I didn’t check to see what the exact number is but I usually go by what it feels like when I  go outside.

So February is a good month.

We have Valentine’s Day ……

We have Family Day here in Canada and in the U.S. there is President’s Day.

I wonder do other countries celebrate similar holidays?

Alvin is looking out the window from the vantage point of our bed.

Did I say “our?”

What a guy…… he’s my boy that is for sure.

Just getting ready here to go to work at the store ….. certainly the mall will be busy today.

People like to shop on Sundays almost as much as they like to shop on Saturdays.

I hope that you all have a wonderful Sunday.

Time for me to go and have another cup of coffee as mine is half full and half cold.

I am getting a ride to work.

Today our four-legged visitor for the past week …. Mr. Casey goes back home.

His family is now back from a trip to Mexico …

We shall all  miss Casey very much.

Such a cute little guy.

I will post some photos later of all of our pups.

Special Hello to:  You on this great Sunday morning.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day….

Good Morning and Welcome to Friday the 14th day of November, 2014.

Happy Birthday Wishes to our friend “S” …… have a wonderful day.

Well last night was my second Thursday to work till 10:00 p.m.

Mr. Alvin woke up when I got home and then Miss Penny wanted to come downstairs.

So both of them followed me around as I prepared my lunch for today and a snack for last night.

The store was fairly busy so that was great.

My sales were very good.

I got a kick out of Alvin and Penny ……

When me and Alvin went to bed I could hear Penny scratching at the kid’s bedroom door …. so when she did not stop I decided she might as well come and sleep with us.

Oh, I forgot to mention we have a house guest for the weekend starting last night ….. our friend “CASEY” is back.

So the four amigos……

He is so darling.

Miss Penny slept with us and those puppies woke me up at 4:00 but I managed to get them back to sleep until 4:45 …… I didn’t get to bed until midnight.

Well I had better get going as I am on Aussie care ….. neighbour’s cat.

Her Mom gets home on Sunday.

I hope that you have a great day and I will at both jobs.

I love Friday nights at the store.

Special Hello to: our friend “S” …… it is your Birthday.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Monday the 11th day of August, 2014.

Today is the birthday of the eldest of my brothers.

Happy Birthday “J” …….

The sky is clear and the sun is starting to come up and there is a slight breeze.

Back to the office today ……

I am so grateful that I had some time off from work.

Always good to recharge one’s batteries.

The puppies will wonder today why I am leaving and the routine will begin again.

Each week since they moved in it has been different.

I know for me it takes a bit of time before I adjust to changes.

So hopefully soon everyone feels like this is home besides me and Alvin.

Alvin is definitely doing better.

He is more calm ….. other than the window ….. with Penny.

But dogs will be dogs.

I do not expect them to be quiet all of the time.

Casey went home last night so we are now back to three dogs.

Casey was visiting since last Thursday night and was here for my Birthday Weekend Celebration.

I honestly do not feel any different.

I guess that is good.

Well time to go and feed Miss Aussie as her Momma is away.

I hope that you all have a wonderful day ……

Special Hello to: all those folks celebrating a birthday, anniversary or just life.

It is all good.

Always, Carol and Alvin
