Living … One day at a time.

Oh, what a weekend this has been so far.

Nice to see the sun shining this morning.

We were up at 5 a.m. for Alvin to eat and go outside.

Then headed back to the sofa for some extra zzz’s.

WOW, it was pretty late when we finally got up, I guess we really needed the extra sleep.

I was shocked to see the clock on the stove say it was 9:24 a.m.

Yes, we did not get our bodies up to stay up until that time.

Oh, well.

Yesterday was full of surprises.

I mentioned that Humphrey visited us unexpectedly arriving shortly after we got up.

I spent time between laundry and writing up letters and Christmas cards.

In the late morning Teddy’s Mom contacted me to see if he could come and visit Alvin for a couple of hours.

I said “sure.”

Teddy’s Dad dropped him by a little bit later.

In between doing chores and the Christmas cards I gave attention to my three buddies, Alvin, Humphrey and Teddy.

I had mentioned to Teddy’s Mom that I was just walk Teddy home when we went for a walk about 2:30 p.m. so that is what we did.

We were invited in for a visit and tea (for me).

So great to see the new puppy, OMG, she is so cute.

Just before 4:00 p.m. we headed for home as I had to shower and get ready for our girls Christmas party, finish drying some laundry and tidying up.

Humphrey was resting when we arrived home.

His Mom was to be home about 5:00 which worked perfectly as I was leaving about 6:00 p.m.

After I was ready and just finishing up a few things I texted Humphrey’s Mom.

She did not get away when she planned and was just leaving at that time.

Needless to say she was not home when I left for supper but the boys are fine together.

So it was nice that Alvin had company.

I was kind of surprised but more worried when Humphrey was still there when I arrived home two hours later at 8:00 p.m.

Cell phones are great, I texted his Mom and she said that she was only a few minutes away.

Whew, what a relief.

The girls had gone home to pick up a few things and then were going to walk back to my house (no drinking and driving).

Humphrey’s Mom was just leaving when they arrived.

What a busy day.

We, girls had a great time.

Laughing and venting and chatting up a storm.

Alvin laid mostly beside one of my friends wanting some attention.

There was no plan to exchange gifts but we all had brought a gift for each other.

Alvin even had a paw in opening one of my gifts.

The girls were surprised to see how well he could open a gift.

The one he opened was taped shut.

He found a place to start and between his mouth and paws, he did it.

There is even video proof.

I will share some photos of our gifts.

Funny just after 11:00 p.m. the party was over.

Everyone was getting tired after a long busy past few days.

We had such a wonderful time.

The food was great at the restaurant (company better).

I want to share some photos…..

Had some drinks.

Received some beautiful gifts.

I gave the hand made (not by me) Christmas tree ornaments in the Christmas tins and received the gifts in the photos above.

Now it is time to get some work done but before that happens it is time to make some coffee.

OMG, it is going onto 11:00 a.m. – how did that happen.

I wish you an awesome Sunday.

The sun continues to shine brightly this morning.

I think that Alvin is tuckered out after all of the company both two and four-legged.

He heard something and just sat up from a lying position.

Happy Sunday.

It is a good news kind of day.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Tuesday the 8th day of January, 2019.

Brrr, it be COLD out there.

Poor Mr. Alvin wasted no time going outside to do his thing and back into the house.

I really did not even need to call him this morning.

This is the COLDEST morning this winter so far.

Make sure that you dress warm and have mitts, scarf and warm socks in addition to your coat and boots.

Always be prepared.

I was thinking of how people communicate.

In my “travels” I came across a young woman who is a non-verbal due to medical reasons.

That does not stop her from TALKING or getting her thoughts across to others.

Cell phones are a great tool for someone who has the ability to use their hands and fingers; but just not able to speak.

I still remain one of the three folks on this earth who do not have a cell phone.

Actually I think it is down to two; as I forgot that Kathie-Lee Gifford now has one.

We all communicate in one way shape or form.

As long as we are able ….. how wonderful.

Have a wonderful Tuesday.

I am on my way out to pick up poop from my No. 1 little pooper.

We all poop.

Just glad that I do not have to pick up mine.

Okay, perhaps this is not the topic for this place but I actually love that word.

Poop.

Just giggle and laugh.

Poop.

Just poop.

Happy Tuesday.

Special Hello to: my friend “V” who makes me laugh and works so hard, thank you for being my friend. (PS will get that info to you tonight).

COUNTDOWN: 60 Days to 60

Today is Tuesday, June 13, 2017 and it is the 58 day until my 60th Birthday.

I wonder how many days it will take before the countdown skips a day or two?

Just kidding or perhaps not.

So yesterday was my serious one and from here on in …. just observations and positive stuff.

I was thinking last night when I was in bed about all the different types of telephones that I have used over my lifetime thus far.

There was the phone on the wall we had on the farm.

Everyone had a specific “number of rings” and everyone on that line could listen to the other’s calls.

Yes, that was the start of the “party line,” and gossip.

We all knew the folks who listened in on your calls.

Then we had the “rotary dial” – I believe that was the name.

I remember when we got the touch button phones.

The FLIP phones ….the portables …… all versions of the modern day CELL PHONE.

I am almost OLD enough to remember the two cans on a piece of string (just kidding).

Time flies and technology shakes its’ magic wand.

Things have changed.

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Thursday the 18th day of May, 2017.

Clear blue skies and sun rise.

Great start to this Thursday.

Last night I noticed a post on FB asking if you agreed or disagreed to teachers placing student’s cell phones in a central location until class was over.

My stance is absolutely put them away.

There is nothing that they need to be seeing or doing while in class getting their education.

Nothing on social media or email or the world wide web that should keep them from learning about the environment, science, our planet, social and health and so on.

I know that most people, adults and young ones of all ages are reluctant to give up their phones, it is as if they were an extra appendage.

Perhaps in the future we will have a built in device to communicate with ….. who knows but for now they are hand held.

But in the meantime ….

In class no and at work no.

If there is an emergency it can be dealt with the same way they have been for many years ….. phone the principal or the employer.

Or using these devices on your breaks whether at work or at school.

Why we feel the need for instant gratification is beyond me.

Just my opinion.

I do think that they serve a great purpose but with some restraint, please people.

Everyone on the bus has their cell phones out either surfing on the internet or talking to someone.

Some people do listen to music …. which is okay ……

People walking down the sidewalk with their heads bent over with full attention to that little screen.

People thinking that they can drive and walk and text …. well that is just …… I will not say the word(s).

Personally I do not have a cell phone.

Yes, I am almost 60 and no cell.

I have a land line.

Old school.

I do not wish to be in constant contact.

I have voice mail so that people can leave message if they call and I am unavailable.

I have email on my computer.

Not that perhaps someday I will obtain one but for now it is a luxury that I do not need.

I do think that our “social ness” is slowly slipping away.

Not enough face to face conversation.

Manners are almost a thing of the past.

Some folks cannot even have a family supper without every member sitting at the table checking their phones.

Something seriously wrong with that picture.

How important do we think we are anyway?

How important is it to reply to every little message or post?

What is it with selfies anyway?

I guess coming from someone who has taken photos at every event her whole life with no photos of herself or at least not many.

Perhaps it is not totally a bad thing.

Anyway food for thought.

Perhaps at the dinner table phones should be left in the bedrooms.

Out at a restaurant leave them turned off in your purse or pocket.

We waited before and we can wait again.

The world did not come crashing to an end because you did not post that selfie of you eating a tomato or liking a photo someone posted.

Well time to go to work.

Another day.

Happy day …. sunshine….temperature warming up.

I still have not turned on the heat.

Good or bad …… it is a little nippy in the house.

Happy Thursday.

Special Hello to: all those cell phone users ……

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day…..

Good Morning and Welcome to the 24th day of December, 2014 and Christmas Eve.

This is my second favourite day of the year with the first tying with the birth of my precious daughter and the adoption and bringing home of “me” Alvin.

On this day I am even more grateful for all of the many blessings in my life.

I am in great health,

I have my own house,

I am able to work two jobs,

I have wonderful family and friends (actually the best ones),

I have me Alvin who is a bright light in my life,

I am able to meet new people everyday of my life,

I can write via this blog and reach the far corners of the Earth,

I am alive.

So on this Christmas Eve:

I wish you good health.

I wish you to be surrounded by family and friends.

I wish you much laughter.

I wish you much love.

I wish you great joy.

I wish you the gift of gratitude.

I wish you peace, comfort and faith.

I wish you a Merry Christmas.

Have a great day.

I am going to work at the office where will be holding our Annual Family Christmas Party.

We are usually done just before noon and then can go on with our day.

If you are travelling today – be safe.

No texting or talking on the cell when you are driving.

Use HANDS FREE DEVICES.

Merry Christmas.

Special Hello to: YOU and YOU and YOU ….. you are the best and are important to me and to the world.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day……

I have a question for you all today.

What is the one thing that you always must have in your home or with you?

It can be anything …… your children, perhaps a spouse, mm maybe CHOCOLATE or a bottle of water.

I think that I have one that most people will agree on …. YOUR CELL PHONES, BLACKBERRY,  I-PHONE and all those high tech items that have eluded me to this point.

I am certain that I am one of three, okay maybe ten people on the planet that do not have cell phones.  LOL.

So what is the one thing that I always must have in my home or with me?

Mm, I was thinking about that while I was make a list for you all ……. I guess it would COFFEE.  I always love to have a cup of coffee and most always have coffee in my home.

As far as something that I have with me at all times ….. that would be my purse.  I am one of those gals that carries virtually everything but the kitchen sink.

I always like to be prepared.  So I carry a bit of everything …. band-aids as I am allergic to Elastoplast……pen & small notebook (because you never know and because sometimes I love to jot notes for a story) and much more.

So the thought for the day ….. think about what you like to always have around you.  Maybe it is music ( IPOD’s and Shuffle).  I do love to listen to music.

So many choices……

Have a great great Sunday …..

Always, Carol

Thought for the day

Keep it simple.  Most of us tend to over think every facet of our lives.  Even when we sleep our dreams can be complicated.  So for most of the past couple of years I have  made it my mission if you will, to just live my life as simply, and as happily as I can.  Some days when the  hormones rage it can be a challenge, but for the most part I keep it simple.  Try it.  Just breathe, relax.  Do one thing at a time.  Make a list and each time you complete a task, mark it off.  Trust me, that feels so good.  You can see what you have accomplished.  Nothing over complicates life as much a multi-tasking.  You can hold the baby and chat on the phone but stay away from talking on your cell phone, texting to plan a meeting while driving your car and drinking a cup of coffee.  Even in a sentence that is too much.  I guess you get my point.  So my thought for the day is:  keep it simple.
