It is a NEW YEAR.

Good Morning and Welcome to a WINTERY WEDNESDAY.

Last night it started snowing and has not stopped.

The snow was up to Alvin’s neck on the deck when we got up at 3:30 a.m.

Yup, we were up and I fed him and shovelled some of the deck.

Not quite sure why but we were both wide awake at that time.

There will be shovelling to do again before I leave for work.

Yesterday was UKRAINIAN Christmas.

I realized after I wrote and published my post yesterday that I completely forgot about writing about Ukrainian Christmas.

The reason for me leaving up the Christmas Tree and decorations.

I was honoring my friend of forty-seven years who passed last year.

He was a kind, sweet, gentle Ukrainian man.

He would give you the shirt off his back or the shoes from his feet.

He cared for animals and life.

He loved his garden and flowers.

He farmed with his brother and when his brother passed he farmed alone.

Managing it all by himself.

A big job for two but for one, so much.

He would always call me and teasingly, ask, if I had a boyfriend or if I had got married.

I would always say “No.”

I know that he was just checking to make sure I was okay.

I would call him from him to time, as well.

He was fond of the photos that I sent him at Christmas time with a card.

A photo of me and Alvin.

He had a smile that would light up the saddest of folk.

He was generous to a fault.

He was like an older brother and treated my siblings as such, as well.

When I learned of his passing; I felt as though I had lost a part of me.

Well I guess that I had.

He was my older brother.

You left us way too early and I will miss you, always.

Yesterday you were in my thoughts and will never leave my heart.

I see your star shining on a clear Alberta night keeping watch over us all.

Thank you my brother.

Please be careful out there ….. lots of snow.

I pray for rain in Australia.

Please save the animals in Australia.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to the 22nd day of September, 2018.

Today is officially the FIRST day of FALL.

My favourite time of year.

The air is a bit cooler, the leaves are hues of yellows and oranges and reds.

Fall always feels a slower time of year.

Birds are beginning to fly south.

The grass no longer needs to be trimmed each week.

We start or have started to put away our summer things.

Cleaning out flower pots and garden areas.

We put out our fall wreaths and items.

This is what the first day of FALL looks like out my back door and windows:

Methinks it looks more like the next season, Winter.

But alas it is not to be here for too long or so the weather people report.

My poor sunflowers are drooping so low they are almost touching the ground.

I feel so guilty that I did not trim them before the snow.

The impatiens flowers appear to be okay except the poor little flowers are covered in snow.

The only items that reminds me of FALL on the deck are the ornaments of a scarecrow and pumpkin in one of the tall flower pots.

But in Canada, in Alberta – the weather can change in a heartbeat.

In parts of Eastern Canada they are having a “heat wave” extending the summer and out WEST, well here we are.

Do not get me wrong, I am not complaining.

A bit of snow does not get me down.

Only the farmers and construction workers are left waiting to see what happens.

Fall or no FALL.

Dry again or not dry again.

Mr. Alvin was up off and on since 3:00 a.m. today and so I am feeling a bit out of sorts.

Not bad though.

Once I have had my morning coffee I will be off to the races.

Lots to do.

I took a vacation day on Monday to have a nice extra long weekend.

Plans to reorganize my office, clean out my clothes closets and go through photos on the computer and clean out emails.

Perhaps that will be a lot for three days but time will tell.

Always laundry and some cleaning to do and walks with Alvin.

Walks in the snow with Alvin.

That will be fun.

Remember to put towels by the front door.

Noting that to myself.

Time to fly.

Happy first day of FALL.

Perhaps the seasons will reverse and we will have winter until December and then fall for December through till April.

That might be nice.

Although brown at Christmas time – just does not feel quite right.

Oh, my I forgot to mention that my daughter picked me up from work yesterday.

We stopped by the grocery store and vet.

She stayed for supper and a visit.

She brought me some clothes from a clothing swap.

Oh, I am a lucky woman.

New pants, jeans and a beautiful purple sweater.

I am so lucky.

Special Hello: to my sister …. Merry Christmas …. time to put up your tree…… just kidding and I hope that you are smiling now.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Thursday the 15th day of December, 2016.

9 sleeps till Christmas Eve.

Really !!

When did that happen?

Still pretty cold here in Edmonton.

Double digits below celsius and then add windchill in some cases, and it is COLD.

We, me and Alvin quickly puppy proofed the main floor as Baby Milo is coming to spend the day with Alvin.

Also coming along is “Casey” ….. he is in a family of friends to my kids.

As Milo has not met Casey as yet, and Casey has some health issues thought it better to bring them all here.

Mr. Alvin will look after them all and I will see if I can leave a couple of hour early today.

They should be here shortly.

Looks like baking will be on the list for the weekend.

That will be good to have that done.

Not many things left to do and that is great because there is only 9 sleeps till Christmas Eve.

I hope that whatever you are doing over the holidays before and after Christmas that you are safe, healthy and warm.

I think that I ate a bit too much in this before Christmas time ….. I can feel it around the middle.

So time now too watch and be aware of what I am putting into my mouth.

I am not starving so no need to stuff myself ….. not like I am running out of food anytime soon.

I guess I had better get going before the company arrives.

We will have to get things set up …. like a gate around the Christmas Tree – how cool is that!

I hope that you have an awesome Thursday.

Special Hello to: my friend “P” ….. Thank you for reading my blog.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Tuesday the 1st day of March, 2016.

Hello March …… great to see you.

Can you believe it?

It is March.

Soon we will be forwarding our clocks by one hour  ….. spring forward.

Soon the ice and snow will be melted …….

Soon the bunnies will be brown ……..

Soon the trees will be budding …….

Soon ………

YAY …..

So close ….. so exciting.

My favourite time of year ……

Okay likely a close second to Christmas time ……

After reading so many horrific stories on  last night ….

I want to keep this blog …. happy and positive.

I would like us all …. every human being on this planet …..

To take pause ….. stop for a second.

How do you treat yourself?

How do you treat family and friends?

How do you treat animals?

How do you treat the environment?

I will say that when I was typing this I was asking the question like this:

How do you treat your family and friends?

As soon as I typed that line I knew there was something wrong.

The word “your” …… this makes everything seem like a possession.

So I removed the word and it feels better.

Stop making everything a possession.

We have to be better ….. we just have to.

One of these days there will be a “bigger threat to human beings than ourselves.”

I always look to the sky and think of how we would feel if another species would find themselves on our planet ….. would they eat us, beat us, torture us, throw us in cages, and kill us?

Just because one is “bigger” does not mean to say that we should be threatening all around us.

Come on people ……. can we please be better and treat all other beings with respect?

Well I guess it is almost time to finish getting ready for work.

I hope that everyone takes pause today ….. stops for a second and goes in a different direction.
