2021

Good Morning ALL. How are you doing this Sunday, February 21, 2021. Today was my paternal Grandmother’s birthday. She was born this day in 1901. Her name was Stella and she was a force in all things from her love of football and hockey to baking and gardening and everything in between. She knew every player and theirs statistics in the Canadian Football League. Grandma even had season football tickets for the Saskatchewan Roughriders which were/are located in Regina, Saskatchewan (she lived in rural Saskatchewan) and never attended a game, this was one of the ways she supported them. Another was purchasing the annual fundraising dinner. ticket and never attended As much as she loved sports she loved her garden, most especially her roses. Flowers were her passion. She won horticultural awards in her hometown for her roses. Her garden was always beautiful. Happy Birthday Grandma Stella.

The sky is overcast here in Edmonton. The air is warm, I was just outside with Alvin who was digging up a chew treat from one of the snow banks while I was digging up something else (not really digging for me). After I finished I watched as he dug up the chew treat from the snow drift on the grass area of our backyard (which is small). He picked it up and then proceeded to hop up the three steps from the yard to the deck. From there he hopped up the three steps to the top part of the deck by the garage. It was here that he walked over to the snow that I have piled and started to dig. I was entranced. He had his head down in the snow, digging with his paws until he dropped the chew treat and then started to cover it with his nose. When done he raised his head which had been partially covered in snow and gave it a shake. All through this I had wished that I would have ran back into the house and got my phone to take a video. But my phone was not by the door and likely by the time I threw off my boots and grabbed my phone he would have been done. I really wanted to just be in the moment. After burying the treat, he walked over to the steps to come down and hesitated for a moment before making the leap down the steps. I always hold my breath when he comes down the steps. Also I need to share something else about Alvin. This past Tuesday as you know he had his regular nail trim, anal gland and ear check appointment in addition he was receiving some vaccinations that were due at the end of February. That morning I noticed something odd. There was colour in his pee. Now when peeing in the snow …. you notice things. The colour was red. Even after he peed, there would be a drop of red. My heart skipped a beat. This is never good. I called his Vet to let them know and that we would have to add some tests to the appointment and explained. So at the appointment they were able to take a urine sample by inserting a catheter and also did blood tests. They could tell it was not an Urinary Tract Infection or at least there were no crystals. The blood tests were inconclusive so the only other option was to book an ultrasound. So that I did. This coming Tuesday. I have not shared this information with many people. But after knowing this for several days and trying to remain positive and feeling like I need to say something, I have started to tell a few people. It is a big thing to keep all to myself. I am positive that he will be fine as he has been eating and drinking like normal. His sleeping has not changed – still as crazy as ever. He was a bit whiny yesterday but his paws seem to be bothering him which they do from time to time. Please keep Mr. Alvin in your thoughts and if you pray, in your prayers. I am hopefully for good results. This was why I wrestled about taking the video but I am happy that I stayed outside and did not miss one second of him digging up and re burying his chew treat.

Well it is almost 9:30 and I have to put on coffee and have breakfast as I am having a video chat with one of my friends. The other is spending time with her husband who works away from home and is currently at home for a few days. They are having some family time.

The sky is overcast and the wind is blowing. The only sounds are the clock ticking in the bathroom beside this room and the clicking of my fingers as they touch the keys on the computer keyboard.

I will enjoy and be grateful for each and every day that I get to spend with my friend and companion Mr. Alvin. I hope that it will be years but that is not for me to know that this point.

Have a wonderful day. I thank each and every one that reads my daily post. I love to write and it makes it even better to know that people love to read my words. I hope that most days – I bring a smile to your face, perhaps give you food for thought, and bring you some helpful information.

Take Care.

Continuing to live with kindness, respect, compassion and patience for all creatures.

Always, Carol & Alvin

One of my favourite photos of my boy.

Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Wednesday the 19th day of October, 2016.

Dark dark now and just wait this weekend we turn our clocks back one hour.

Instead of it being 6:12 as it is now it will be 5:12 a.m.

Alvin has had a head start on that change.

This morning we were up at 4:30 a.m.

Oh my boy ……

Guess what!

I have news.

Yesterday I went to Costco with my daughter.

Guess what one of my purchases was?

You will never guess.

LIGHT BULBS.

It would seem that I had some burned out in every room.

Now when I turn on the lights there is no place for those dust bunnies to hide.

I could not believe the difference.

I can see my kitchen once again.

Almost every room was in dim mode.

As my daughter said “good lighting for beauty.”

Which is true.

Both of the light bulbs in my downstairs bathroom burned out at the same time which I thought was strange.

How does that happen?

Anyway whenever I was in there had to leave the door open as there are no windows.

So looking in the mirror gave me a nice glow …..

The upstairs main bathroom looks like you are on a stage and ready to belt out a tune.

Honestly I felt like I should have sunglasses on.

My bathroom now I can truly see to put makeup on and do my hair ….. before it was touch and go.

Always checked things out when I got to work.

Slightly kidding here.

Makes for a better story.

I bought two boxes and replaced 11/12.

The combined total in both boxes was 12.

Yikes.

Note to self: ask to go to Costco more often.

Well almost time to hit the pavement.

My friend “V” sent me a message last night to tell me there is another package on the way to me.

OMG, what a girl.

The theme is “orange” so wonder what might be in that box?

I cannot wait.

Definitely something good to look forward to tonight.

It is a great Wednesday.

Lights on and someone is definitely at home.

Have a great Wednesday.

Remember to have a sense of humour.

My friend and co-worker and tea drinker “K” is taking me to StarBucks (her treat) for a pumpkin coffee.

Cannot wait for coffee break.

Well time to fly.

Have an awesome day.

Special Hello to: all those friends out there making your friends feel so loved.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Thursday the 15th day of October, 2015.

Last night Alvin and I enjoyed another wonderful walk ….. a bit on the breezy side but warm.

I am so grateful for this great weather.

Mr. Alvin seems to have changed his clock already for the fall as he was ready to get up just after 3:00 a.m. this morning.

I managed to convince him to remain in bed until 4:15 a.m.

Thank goodness we were in bed by 9:15 p.m.

I guess for him he basically eats/sleeps/walks/snuggles so not a big deal for him.

Now his Momma on the other hand ….. time will tell.

I just keep telling myself I am energized everyday ……

We did go and hit the sofa for some zzz’s before I got up at 5:00 a.m.

Perhaps I need to be more firm.

Just is difficult so early in the morning.

Oh well ….. just another day in Paradise.

Right ….

Looking forward to Thursday ……

At this moment in time, I am grateful to be sitting in front of my computer keying these words, expressing myself, with Mr. Alvin laying on the floor just outside the office door, (always close by).

The only sound other than my fingertips hitting the keyboard is the sound of the furnace as it sends warm air throughout the house.

I do love the early morning quiet.

So Happy Thursday.

I wish for us all a productive and wonderful day.

Special Hello to: my friends all over the world.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Wednesday the 16th day of September, 2015.

Well another rainy night in “Georgia” … er I mean Edmonton.

It has stopped for now ….. we would like to see the sunshine.

The rain has been wonderful but time for some rays.

To add to my mornings I have found that taking the usual bus now is not working.

Most mornings I get there on time and then a couple of days I have been a couple of minutes late.

So time to start leaving even earlier …. 6:20 a.m. this morning.

I will be earlier to work but there is no happy medium.

That is okay.

Better to be earlier than late.

I do not like showing up just as the clock strikes the start hour.

Well this is going to be ultra short as a result.

Have to get the time down again …

Rework the morning routine …

You know how that works when you change the departure time.

I hope that you have an awesome Wednesday.

Happy Wednesday.

Special Hello to: my friends and family all over the world.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day…..

Good Morning and Welcome to Saturday the 4th day of October, 2014.

It has been an interesting morning thus far with the weather.

When I got up with Alvin about 6:00 a.m. ….. the sky was beginning to lighten but the deck was wet.

Hint that we had received rain sometime between I got home from work just after 10 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.

Alvin and I of course, hit the sofa for some extra zzzz’s and when we got up the sun was shining brightly.

Now it is almost 11:00 a.m. and it is overcast and windy.

All sorts of weather this morning …. but it remains beautiful out.

Well it is Saturday, my day off …. so I put some pinto beans, chick peas and kidney beans for their long soak; had breakfast and shared my banana with the puppies (they love banana); gathering laundry to do; trimmed my hair as I want to colour it in a bit and then get started on this day.  I always have an ambitious “TO DO LIST” for my day off but at the end of it all I feel very much rewarded when I look at all that I have accomplished.  It just makes my work week easier if I get all of my household chores done on Saturday.

In there I brewed a pot of coffee because one must have some of that before tackling the LIST.

I do want to take all the puppies for a walk at some point likely early this afternoon.

The kids are off to watch over their friends children for the day.

So it is just me and the puppies.

I am excited to colour my hair (it will be like I am a new person and so easy just with a box from the drugstore and 20 minutes on the clock)

Also get the house tidied up ..then this evening I can sit back and get caught up on my recorded shows and or watch a movie.

So on this now bright sunny Saturday morning I hope that you are busy doing things that you love.

I am surrounded by love and my puppies.

Doesn’t get better than that …..

After all when you arise in the morning and can walk down the stairs, breathe in and out, see the rain or the sunshine, hear the dogs bark and taste your breakfast …. it is life’s simple pleasures that we often take for granted …. but at the end of the day it doesn’t get better than that…..

Special Hello to: all those folks who have Saturdays off ….. ENJOY…..

Always, Carol, Alvin, Elton and Penny …… I have to include my grand-puppies as it is just us today.

Thought for the day….

Welcome to Tuesday, June 19th, 2012.

Well this morning is bright and sunny with beautiful blue skies here in Edmonton.

I had lots to say this morning but alas I am running behind the clock so have to just say hello.

I wish you all the most beautiful, awesome, amazing day.

Take care.

Keep positive, focused and aware.

Special Hello: to all those people who keep their decision made on what they are going to wear to work (I changed several times).

Usually I am set …. oh well.

Always, Carol and Alvin
