COUNTDOWN: 60 Days to 60

Today is Monday, June 12, 2017 and it is the 59 day until my 60th Birthday.

I guess at some point one may ask these questions:

  1.  What does it mean to be 60?
  2. How are you supposed to be feeling as you turn 60?

To me it means that I have lived through six decades.

60 years – some good – some great – others less so.

It means that I have lived through major changes in technology.

It also means that even though the years and decades have come and gone – basically the human race has not changed.

We have not evolved past centuries of torturing and killing one another, and the world around us including other life forms.

The one thing that has changed dramatically over my sixty years on this planet is our less than stellar care and protection of this planet, we call Earth, our home.

Greed and Power remain two of man’s largest downfalls.

It is likely not to change anytime soon.

I think what makes me feel so sad, is, I am about to turn sixty years old, and I can clearly see that things have not changed much at all.

Now I am a pretty positive person and I am not about to spend these next fifty-nine days reflecting on things negative.

Just an observation from my vantage point as I near sixty years living on this amazing planet.

It is never too late to change and one person does make a difference.

Always, Carol

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Wednesday the 2nd day of September, 2015.

It rained a wee bit overnight as the deck has wet splotches here and there.

You can begin to feel the difference in the air that September brings.

It is not so much cold as cool and crisp.

It smells fresh.

You definitely need a wee jacket in the morning while waiting for the bus.

Most especially if there be wind.

I feel the Scots part of me coming out this morning.

Likely soon to be followed by the Irish and English.

What a lovely combination.

Well here it is mid week.

Work has been going well …. busy but that is nothing new.

Somedays I wish that I could be completely caught up when I leave at night.

But alas not likely ….. nature of the beast so to speak.

I am excited we are down to three sleeps before my girl friend arrives from Regina.

I have been patiently waiting since she confirmed her plane ticket.

It will be nice to sip coffee and catch up.

I am also excited to see the photos of her newest grand-baby.

YAY ….. baby photos ……

I wished that they could bottle the smell of a newborn baby.

Well what is on your plate for this fine morning/day?

Going to work?

Staying at home?

Cleaning the house?

Filing papers?

Going for a walk?

Volunteering some time at a local senior’s home or animal shelter?

Cleaning out your closet and bringing your fall/winter clothes to the front?

Lots to do.

Cleaning the yard?

There is always something to do if you wish to do it.

Always start with a list ….. makes life so much easier.

Write down what you have to do ….. even a bit of a timeline if you wish….

Check items off as they are completed.

Trust me you will have such satisfaction when you check an item as done.

YAY ……

I do it all of the time.

Plus, you do not forget anything.

Well here it is time to leave once again.

Happy Wednesday folks.

ENjoy.

Special Hello to: my friend “P” see you soon….

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day……

Good Morning and Welcome to Friday the 17th day of April, 2015.

Well there is a quietness over our household that marks us being alone.

My daughter, son-in-law and grand-puppies moved into their brand new house yesterday.

It is going to take awhile for me and Alvin to get used to the stillness.

We will have to make some noise.

When my daughter and son-in-law came to pick up Elton and Penny after the movers were done …. they helped me move my bed back into the master bedroom.

It seemed so strange but yet so familiar to be back in that room.

Alvin hopped right up on the bed but then took a long time to settle down.

I think he could smell Elton and Penny’s scent left behind in the room.

Even this morning I know that he misses most especially Miss Penny.

They got to be such good buddies over the past months.

So this weekend I am going to give myself a break and simply get used to being alone in the house.

Do some laundry ….. do a bit of cleaning but the most of the weekend I will spend with Alvin …… giving him extra attention.

WOW, even in the office without the bed it echoes.

Funny how a piece of furniture can make such a difference.

Well I need a shower and then to get on with this day.

Funny now without the kids here and no second job it seems unbearably quiet …. I know that we will get back into our routine and that will be sooner than later for sure as it is back to work at the office on Monday.

I am grateful for all of my many blessings.

To have my own home after almost three decades of living in an apartment.

I am grateful to be in great health.

I am grateful to be surrounded by good neighbours and friends.

So here we go, me and Alvin on another adventure.

With the sun shining and a hefty breeze we will start this new chapter.

I thank you for staying with us.

Have an awesome Friday.

Special Hello to:  family and friends …. all those folks beginning a new chapter in their lives.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day….

Good Morning and Welcome to Sunday the 15th day of September 2013.

How are you this Sunday?

Are you ready to begin an adventure?

Are you ready to try something new?

Are you ready to be better?

Are you ready to have faith?

Are you ready to smile at someone that you have not been introduced to?

Are you ready to give something to someone unexpectedly?

Are you ready to live your life like you have never lived it before?

Well today is the day!

Let’s get out there and truly live our lives?

Be the best person you can be?

Do the best at every thing that comes your way.

Take a chance.

Be brave …..

Send an email or make a phone call to someone you haven’t been in contact for awhile.

GO out into your neighbourhood or to a park and pick up any miscellaneous trash.

Swing by a senior’s home and check with reception and see who has not had a visitor recently and drop by.

Take a cup of coffee to a friend.

Go to a hospital and see about volunteering.

Go to an animal shelter and see about volunteering.

Go through your closet and give clothing, coats, shoes that you no longer need to a goodwill centre or a shelter.

Maybe start a coat drive before winter starts to give to those less fortunate.

Volunteer at a school or church.

Just simply do something nice for someone.

It doesn’t take a million dollars to make a difference to someone –  just a bit of time.

We can all make a difference…..

DO ONE RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS TODAY.

Let us start a revolution of KINDNESS and UNDERSTANDING … of MAKING A DIFFERENCE and of HELPING OUR FELLOW MAN.

Let us be kind to all living creatures big and small.

I hope that you will come on this journey with me.

Let me know how you are and what you are doing to make a difference.

Special Hello today to all those people who constantly make a difference in the lives of others.

Always and Forever, Carol and Alvin

“Some pretty posies for you”

Thought for the day….

Today is Monday, September 4th, 2011 – Labour/Labor Day.

I want to personally thank and am grateful for all those labourers who have gone before us ….. literally paving the way.

This is for us all….. we  make a difference.

We all labour/labor …… in some way, shape or form….

Have a great day

Always, Carol

Thought for the day……

Someone asked me recently how I stay so “positive” in light of all that goes on around me ……

Like everyone else on the planet, life happens, and some things are classed as good, and some not so good…..

But at the end of the day, it is how you react to something that keeps the flow of energy “positive”.

I choose,  no matter what is going on in my life to affirm gratitude for all that I have, positive feelings to generate good energy,  and to be optimistic.

If one can focus on feeling positive and optimistic then your light shines bright for all around you.

Always look for the silver lining in each day (because it is there)….

You make the choice ……

So when the world seems to be closing in around you …… simply chose to feel good.

I myself, want to be positive and optimistic for myself and shine goodness to all those who are around me.

I hope that these words make a difference in someone’s life.

They make a difference in mine.

Always, Carol
