2021

Good Morning ALL! I hope that you are well this beautiful Friday morning. The sky is clear and blue and the sun is shining ever so brightly. See what happens when the Momma gets a decent night sleep. I just had a shower and am feeling on top of the world. Mr. Alvin is waiting patiently downstairs for me.

I wanted to mention a topic that seems to have been gaining momentum as of late and that is the number of times one showers/baths. The “stars” are talking about it and I think it may have started with Ashton Kutcher and his wife Mila Kunis and the bathing of their children. Honestly, in North America we OVER USE everything and most especially water. There really is no need to most of us to shower or bath everyday. It has become the norm to do so because of the availability and convenience of water. But you know what that is becoming less and less the case as water is disappearing around the globe. Most especially in North America and mostly at this time in the United States. Now that being said we here in Alberta are facing a water crisis when it comes to watering livestock due to the heat wave and the drying up of natural watering places such as sloughs and streams. But think about it for most of us we do not require or need to bath or shower on a daily basis. When I was a child we had a bath once a week on Sundays. If you got dirty in between you simply washed those dirty parts in a small basin of water. We did not waste much when I was growing up but now, totally different story. Something to think about and do it now. I have a feeling that due to climate change our water in Canada is going to become less and less. We must think about the waste, how much we use and when we need to use it. This is going to become a crisis situation in a short period of time. I have started some time ago showering every few days and usually stretch that to four or five depending on how “dirty” I am which really I am never dirty – perhaps sweaty but never dirty. The only things that get dirty on me are my hands from gardening and my feet from walking with no shoes on. Please take the time and think about how you are using this very valuable natural resource as it may not last forever, most especially in the abundance of the recent past.

Okay Mr. Alvin is now awake, he was sleeping when I came upstairs and woke up after I was using the electric toothbrush not sure if he heard it or not. Anyway he is barking now. I do not wish to disturb the neighbours or keep in an anxious mood.

I hope that you have a great day. I am once again so grateful for the good sleep last night.

Stay cool and be safe.

Continuing to live this life with respect, kindness, compassion, patience, understanding, love and gratitude.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Tuesday the 21st day of August, 2018.

The air is cool this morning, not much smoke remaining in the air and forecasting mid 20’s (celsius) for today.

Alvin was standing by me – just looking up.

He once again reminded me that I did not place his blue blanket on the floor for him.

What a guy.

I have to share a story from yesterday morning.

My ride picked me up for work and we were chatting away about the weekend.

We were just about to make a turn when my friend said “There is a puppy out there and appears to have no owner.”

So we made a U-turn and parked beside the park (there was this little fuss ball) standing in the grass.

He definitely needed a hair cut.

I said “Well we can’t leave him/her there.”

I opened the truck door and jumped out.

Walking toward the little one “I said Come here baby.”

Surprisingly enough he/she came walking toward me and I scooped the pup up into my arms.

The little dog had such long hair and was so muddy – I thought initially it had been lost for days.

Carrying the pup back to the truck, I signalled my friend and she advised to put the doggie in the back seat.

Thankfully I had a black dress on.

Inside the truck we chatted for a minute and I said “to take us to my house and I will try and locate the owners.”

Luckily for us and for the pup – there was a collar with “CITY LICENSE.”

Another good reason for keeping the license up to date.

My friend drove us to my house.

I was wondering what Mr. Alvin would think as we drove along.

At my house, I quickly took my purse and lunch into the house and announcing that I was home.

I did not want to startle Mr. Alvin too badly.

Back to the truck, I picked up the doggie, said good-byes and that I would keep her posted.

She said “I will share the FB post.”

Oh, yes, figured that was a good idea to put on FB.

You never know.

In the house …. well it was interesting.

Alvin definitely was not liking the situation.

He sniffed and barked … barked and sniffed.

I opened the back door thinking if they were not in the house.

Grabbing some water and food for the pup …. took the dishes out on the deck.

I figured that this may help the situation.

I also ran upstairs to change into sweats as I figured I may get dirty along the way.

In between all of this, I took off the pup’s collar and called the City of Edmonton number.

A nice young woman answered the phone.

I explained what had happened and gave her the license number.

She found the information right away.

Asked for some verifying information – like breed – colour.

I answered the best that I could.

She gave me the name of the doggie “WALKA.”

As soon as I said his name and yes, he is a he, he came right to me.

She started calling the phone numbers on file.

The owners phone went to voicemail.

She tried the second number and then on the third try she got someone at home.

It was the owner’s Mother.

Once the young lady relayed the information – she put the call through to me.

I explained who and what had happened.

The Mother told me that she would just get dressed and be over to pick him up.

Everything seemed to happen quickly.

The boys – Alvin and WALKA, mostly Alvin continued to have this “thing.”

There was something about him that Alvin was not happy with ….

Not sure what other than he just showed up in his house.

We have had other strangers in the house and he did not give this reception.

Just after I hung up with the Mother, the phone rang and it was the owner.

She had been out looking for WALKA for 2 hours.

I gave her my address.

I was cleaning up WALKA and had wrapped him in a towel when I saw someone walking by.

Opening the front door – I called out to the person – thinking it may be WALKA’s Mom ….

Ended up being WALKA’s Dad, he had a up bun and sweats …. from a distance …. anyway.

He came over and the story ends.

Apparently WALKA gets out often and the DAD was grateful to the neighbours.

I was happy that everything worked out.

Two hours later I was at work.

Whoops time to fly.

Special Hello to: WALKA, our new friend

Always, Carol & Alvin
