2021

Good Morning ALL! How are you this Monday morning? Alvin and I are well. We had a good night sleep…. so much closer to pre surgery days or nights, I guess I should say. I still keep tapping on the snooze button. This is actually odd, never in my life until recently have I ever used the “snooze button.” I guess my life has changed so much that I now find the need to use it. Oh well.

How was your weekend? Did you relax? Did you have some fun? Did you go for a walk in nature? Did you tackle a couple of things from your TO DO LIST FOR FALL? I hope that you said YES to all of these questions.

Let me answer them. My weekend was great overall. Yes, I had some downtime. I likely should have have a real time “me time” and had an at home “spa treatment” but I did not. Still relaxed and watched a movie and snuggled with the boy. I did have fun which was during our walk. The leaves are so beautiful and it was so much fun just walking taking our time enjoying the scenery and the fresh air. I guess I incorporated three into one. But I did have fun. Yup, I sure did tackle some items from my TO DO LIST for FALL. Saturday I cleaned out the front flower bed and yesterday I cleaned the kitchen light fixture and before moving to the front entrance fixture I noticed as I was up on a ladder that it was dusty on top of the cupboards. As I got closer to inspect I found it was not just dust but greasy dust, the not so easy to remove kind. Usually I place paper towel or wax paper down so that it is an easier clean up but somehow I only put paper towel down on the section above the fridge, which is so odd. Not the rest. So I grabbed some hot water and dish soap (not DAWN but wished that it had been) and start to scrub with a Norwex cloth but just made a mess. I tried CLR. I tried vinegar. I even tried my new hand held steamer. I tried everything that I could think of until I thought of the magic white powder, yes ….. you guessed it “baking soda.” I put some warm to hot water in a dish and piled in the baking soda and grabbed an old toothbrush of Alvin’s (longer handle) and went to to work. With a bit of elbow grease it came off and bye bye sticky gunk. I think that I am going to once a month clean the top of my cupboards. Whatever designer / contractor / builder decided that cupboards that do not go to the ceiling are a good thing – did not have to clean them. So if you want a fairly easy and cost effective cleaner for the top of your cupboards, I highly recommend some good old fashioned baking soda and warm to hot water and an old toothbrush. This is also GREEN and gives you a bit of exercise to boot. I use baking soda for a lot of things but never thought to use for this. I also took it to task to clean the outside of the microwave and stove and everything was so nice and shiny. I also cleaned the bathroom ceiling fans. Another thing I found out. Usually I clean the bathroom fans twice or three times each year. I remove the cover and vacuum the dust and they are usually dusty. For the past few months I have been using the fan for the house ….. I do not remember what it is called but it pulls in the air from outside…. it actually reduced the amount of dust in the fans. I had no idea. But it did. So that was an easy cleaning job. I am getting those items off my list two or three at a time. Much easier and less stressful. That was it. I enjoyed some time with my favourite cats Humphrey and Bogart as well.

The sun is just beginning to rise in the morning sky. A new day.

I hope that you are doing well. Happy Monday ALL.

Have a great day.

Continuing to live this life with respect, kindness, compassion, patience, understanding, love, laughter and gratitude.

Always, Carol & Alvin

P.S. Another night upstairs in our bed, thank goodness!!

Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Saturday the 30th day of December, 2017.

One more sleep until New Year’s Eve Day.

The sun is shining brightly but it remains COLD.

This photo although not from this year makes me think of winter.

Snow resting ever so gently on each branch.

Brown branch sticking out here and there.

Winter.

On these COLD winter days ME Alvin and I love to curl up together on the sofa.

He snuggles and I sip on a cup of hot coffee.

There is work to do.

I could wash the floors, dust and the like but somehow the COLD has made me feel sleepy and lazy.

At least in the morning.

The afternoon will see this ELF doing some housework.

Happy Saturday Everyone.

Special Hello to: you

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day ……

Good Morning and Welcome to Saturday the 24th day of December, 2016.

No more sleeps this is Christmas Eve.

Today is the day.

So glad that today is Christmas.

We are pretty much ready.

Just a few housekeeping last minute items.

Last minute dust job and vacuum and such.

It snowed last night so of course there is shovelling on my list before my company arrives.

With any lucky no more will fall before the company arrives.

As Alvin and I put on the final preparations for this Christmas we remember how different our Christmas will be without our beloved Penny and Elton.

We spent so many Christmases together, and they will forever remain in a special place in our hearts.

I would like to share a few photos of our special fur-babies as we think of them this Christmas.

Miss Penny, again she is quite the model....

Miss Penny, again she is quite the model….

Alvin and Penny .....

Alvin and Penny ….. he misses her…..

Ah, Miss Penny a few years back

Ah, Miss Penny a few years back

Ah, my puppies ..... Elton and Penny

Ah, my puppies ….. Elton and Penny.

Even though we lost our dearest Elton and Penny this last year and our hearts are aching for them, we think of all those other families who are struggling with loss this Christmas.

May their memories warm your hearts, and keep the conversation alive now and forever.

This Christmas we have additions to our family.

It will mean new traditions and more stories.

We will share with them our old stories and life will go on.

So on this Christmas ….

May you live your life with some “wreck-less abandon.”

Remember to be kind and generous.

Remember to be grateful …. always a good place to start.

May Santa bring you that special gift that makes you giggle with joy.

That would bring a smile to my face and more warmth to my heart.

Happy Christmas.

Special Hello to: all my family and friends, near and far, we are thinking of you and wish you were here or we were there.

With Love Always, Carol and Alvin

Fall 2016 me and me Alvin …..

Merry Christmas To All and To All a GREAT NIGHT.

Thought for the day…..

Good Morning and Welcome to Tuesday the 24th day of February, 2015.

It was a lovely bright sunny and warm day in Edmonton yesterday.

Today will  be a bit cooler and possibly snow.

It is late winter – early spring.

That’s our weather.

It changes faster than we can change our socks.

But alas it makes for great conversation.

That is something we North Americans like to chat about all day long.

Whether it is around the water cooler or on a coffee or lunch break …

While sitting on the bus going to and from work.

While waiting in line at the grocery store.

We discuss how much snow we got, how much rain.

Who had the most.

Who did the  most shovelling.

No matter where we are it is the one thing that brings us all together …. a common thread.

Because no matter where you live on this planet there is weather.

There are rain storms, snow storms, ice storm, dust storms and sand storms.

There are hot sunny days.

There are below cold days.

There is every type of weather imaginable.

Mother Nature PMS …. ing.

Smiling all the while…..

Anyway no matter what it always give us food for conversation.

I love that we have less than perfect weather because we appreciate the warm sunny days all the more.

So when you are gathered around the coffee bar enjoying that cup of coffee and discussing just how cold it is … remember there is someone around the corner discussing just how hot it is…..

Enjoy your day and your conversation.

Special Hello to: my family and friends all over the world.

You are my sunshine ….

Always, Carol and Alvin
