Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Monday the 7th day of January, 2019.

Lots of snow outside this morning.

Poor Alvin did not stray too far from the back door.

I see shovelling in my immediate future.

Will try and do some shovelling before I leave for work.

Especially on the deck for Alvin.

I looked out the front window as I opened the blinds and it looks so pretty.

The freshly fallen snow.

As the street lamps shed their beams on the snow flakes they shone like beautiful diamonds.

So beautiful.

A great sight to behold early in the morning.

Yesterday Mr. Alvin and I had a lovely walk before I headed out to the baby shower.

It was wonderful.

I had not been to a baby shower in years other than at work.

There were over 20 ladies/women/girls; a table full of food and she was adorned with many beautiful gifts.

The new baby girl due to arrive in early February will not need for anything.

My friends, the proud Grandparents are leaving for Hawaii about the same time and are hoping that the baby arrives before they leave.

The trip has been booked for over one year.

They have already made temporary arrangements just in case …. the baby GIRL is late …… on time …… (depends on who you are – looking at it all).

They will not leave without saying hello to the newest grandchild.

Their daughter and son-in-law did not think (according to doctors) that they would ever have a baby.

SURPRISE.

Such a great story.

During the couple of hours or so I was at the shower; I chatted with two ladies that I did not know and also a neighbour of my friend whom I did know.

So it was great.

Lots of conversations.

Learning new things.

One of the gals had even in her early years applied at the same office as I am currently working but did not get the job as she did not have enough “experience.”

My how times have changed – now it is all about the education of which she has.

Anyway, time to get going here and do some shovelling.

Might as well get some more exercise.

Always have a few sets of stairs each morning before leaving the house.

Also watched the GOLDEN GLOBES last night.

I most especially enjoyed the award that Carol Burnett received.

The award will now be in her name for lifetime contributions to television.

VERY COOL, I love her.

By far one of the funniest people on the planet.

Okay time to fly.

Have an awesome Monday.

Special Hello to: Carol Burnett, I adore you.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Monday the 4th day of June, 2018.

The sky is overcast this morning.

Last night both Alvin and I were suddenly awaken by a crack of thunder.

Followed by some rain.

Not any breeze that I can see.

Not raining this morning but looks as though it may.

We are still dry here and every bit of rain helps along with the sunshine so that all the plant life will grow and flourish.

We had another wonderful weekend.

Just working and relaxing and relaxing and working.

We enjoyed our walks together.

I am puzzled by something.

A couple of weeks ago I saw this man and woman while we were walking.

We have bumped into them on occasion.

They had a baby with them and I said “Oh, you had your baby” and replied “Yes, five months ago.”

I replied “Seems like only recently that I saw you.”

Which it does seems like well within the last month that she was expecting and now the baby is five months old.

We saw the Mom and baby out for a walk yesterday afternoon.

Perhaps I am in some time of different dimension or something.

Time warp.

I do not know.

Pretty sure it was not five months since we saw them and she was expecting.

Yikes, pretty freaky if you think about it.

Time goes that quickly?

Argh, AGE?

Mm, I do not know.

Is there anyone out there who has had a similar experience?

Funny just how fast time does pass.

Funny, strange and scary.

Well almost time to go downstairs and finish getting ready for work.

My ride will be here shortly.

Enjoy each moment because at the rate they appear to be passing …. you know what I mean.

Have an awesome Monday.

I hope that you all had a wonderful weekend.

Special Hello to: my sister ….. talk to you soon.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Monday the 26th day of February, 2018.

Another gorgeous day on the way.

Yesterday was so beautiful.

We/I had the best weekend.

Started off speaking with my sister for her birthday.

She was at her son’s home so I had the great opportunity to speak with my nephew and his wife.

Great way to begin the weekend.

Saturday night out for dinner and a movie with my friends.

Sunday morning my daughter brought Mr. Alvin home and also brought along grand-pup Milo.

We had pancakes together and a great visit.

In the afternoon, Teddy and his Aunt came for a visit and stayed for supper.

Teddy’s Aunt brought the fixings for a supreme TACO meal.

OMG, so good.

Absolutely delicious.

I supplied dessert which was pineapple and my homemade chocolate chip cookies with Steeped Tea’s “Coconut Key Lime Dip” added.

Best two days.

Both Alvin and I had a mini break surrounded by friends and family.

We are so blessed.

Hard to believe it is Monday morning already …. where does the time go.

The Olympics are over …..

I am very proud of all the Olympic Athletes for their participation in the games.

So very proud of our Canadian Olympic Athletes who came in 3rd in the overall medal count.

It is great to see the world come together and share such an amazing experience.

Well here we go again, almost time to go and catch that bus.

My daughter is giving me a ride home (YAY, Momma).

Last week I got a ride home every night.

So lucky.

Have an awesome day everyone.

Be kind and respectful.

Do your utmost best to be a good citizen of this planet.

Be there …. show up …..

Special Hello to: my friends and my family who made this such an amazing weekend.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Today is Sunday, December 4th, 2016 and it has been thirteen days since our beloved Elton went to rest with our Penny.

It has been quite the year for our family, and I cannot even imagine how my kids feel suffering the loss of their two babies in such a short period of time.

Our Penny left us on March 15th, 2016 and then Elton followed her on November 22, 2016.

This year family and several of our friends are suffering the loss of their dear fur babies.

When these wonderful creatures enter our lives we do not think of when they will leave us as it is often times too painful.

They are members of our families, and their loss is felt in every aspect of our lives.

Elton joined our family in quite the most unusual way.

On July 11, 2004, on the advice of a visiting friend, Amanda and Steven went to the Humane Society to see about possibly adopting a dog.

In the parking lot of the Edmonton Human Society a young man approached them.

He asked them if they wanted a dog.

The man told them that their dog was scared of kennels and that they could not longer have him in their place.

Amanda and Steven went to his truck only to find the wife holding a dog and crying aloud.

My daughter started to cry as she took the dog from the young woman’s arms.

Both the man and the woman clearly upset about having to give up their beloved dog.

The kids ascertained quickly that this doggie required medical attention as he looked pretty rough.

He had a bad ear infection for starters.

I was living in Regina at the time when I received the phone call from them telling me all about the new addition to their family.

They were so excited.

I knew that this pup would never want for anything and that they would be great parents to him.

Right from the start Elton was pretty laid back but when he wanted something, he wanted it now.

That did not change over the next 12 years.

One year after they adopted Elton – Penny joined the family.

I clearly remember the first visit Elton had at my apartment in Regina.

The kids had come back for a friend’s wedding and left their beloved boy in Grandma’s “capable” care.

I figured no problem …. I raised my daughter so how hard could it be.

Perhaps a bit on the arrogant side.

While they were gone ….

I, me and Elton were on the patio ( I lived on the main floor), and I was having a smoke (back when I smoked).

Carelessly I just let him be on the patio with no leash as he had been so good.

I could not have for-seen what happened next.

We were chilling on the patio keeping dry as it was raining.

All of a sudden out of nowhere a rabbit dashed by the patio and Elton was gone like a flash.

For a split second I stood daft …..

Not even thinking of anything but “Oh my gosh the kids will kill me if anything happened to him as I lived close to a busy street.”

I tore off like a bullet or the next closest thing not considering that I had flip flops on, and the grass was wet.

So I pretty much slid in chase.

I could see him as he turned the corner of our apartment building and  continued to run until he came across the big tree in the green space of our complex.

Thankfully he stopped to “mark his territory” and I literally fell almost on top of him.

There was no way that I was going to let go.

Breathing a sigh of relief, so happy that he was safe.

I feared having to share our story with his parents.

But I caved, as I cannot be dishonest.

I learned a valuable lesson that day.

Never again …..

Although years down the road after I moved to Edmonton when I was walking with Elton, Penny and Alvin – well I will just say that we almost had a similar experience but no rain.

Not easy holding onto three …..

Over the years Elton played a major role in our family.

He was the guy.

Big brother to Penny and later brother figure to Alvin …..

Elton had his health issues over the years.

He had many allergies and once they were determined he could no longer eat some of his favourite treats …. like bananas and peas.

Elton and Penny both accompanied the kids on pretty much every holiday they went on and the other times when they could not go – they were with Grandma.

I remember the kids relating a story from one of their summer trips.

They had gone to Waterton National Park the summer before Penny joined their family.

The kids were hiking up to a lake when they saw bear poop on the trail and instantly went on guard.

As they got to the lake they spotted the bear only a few meters from them eating berries, he did not seem to care.

Of course, Elton was his calm self.

Steve decided they should stay and fish but Amanda wanted to get the “heck” out of there.

They stayed.

The bear ended up passing a moose across the lake doing nothing.

Now this story might have had a different ending if Miss Penny had been there.

She would have spoke up.

This is Elton, our dear little guy who was a large part of our family for over 12 years.

We were blessed to have him with us.

I can speak for all of us when I say he will be dearly missed.

Here are some photos of his life in our family.

A life well lived.

A life filled with love.

There was love …. there is always love.

Rest in Peace our darling Elton.

Love Grandma and Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Wednesday the 25th day of November, 2015.

One month from today is Christmas Day.

Where has the time gone.

Just received sad news that the last of my Paternal Grandfather’s siblings/in-laws has passed away.

I loved my Uncle “G” …. he was my Grandfather’s youngest sister’s husband.

A kind, soft spoken gentleman.

He will be missed.

At the same time I heard of another family member that has cancer has taken a turn for the worse.

To my cousin “G” you are in our thoughts and prayers.

*********************************************************************************************

Today is also the Birthday of my eldest niece.

Happy Birthday “D.”

I believe tomorrow is Thanksgiving for our neighbours to the south.Thank goodness it has stopped snowing.

We have quite the snow bank happening on the deck from shovelling.

I managed to throw some between the fence and the garage so that it is out of the way for now, anyway.

Mr. Alvin has been trying to tell me something.

I wished I could understand …. most times I can figure it out.

Sometimes he just wants my attention.

Hard to believe that it is almost the end of November.

Collectively people have been saying and thinking where has November gone.

I distinctly remembering Halloween and now it is November 25th.

There are a few items on my list to do before Christmas.

Baking, Christmas cards and Wrapping (still a couple of gifts to pick up).

I plan to write my cards this weekend.

I am so excited as the Craft Sale is only a couple of days away now.

It will be fun.

We have never participated in a craft sale before so it will be interesting and a learning experience.

Well it is time to hit the shower.

Learning is a good thing.

Alvin has calmed down.

YAY.

I hope that you have a great Thursday.

Special Hello: my niece “D” – Wishing you the Best of Birthdays …..

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day….

Good Morning and Welcome to Thursday the 26th day of March, 2015.

How are you doing this fine morning?

I am doing great.

Today I am learning something new.

One of my new friends is taking me on the “train.”

It is one of the means of transportation in our city.

It is above ground and there are only a few trains in certain areas at this time.

I am excited and nervous.

I will meet her at her “work” and then we will walk to the train catching it to a central location where we will hop on a bus home.

Apparently it is much faster.

Should be interesting.

So that is my new thing for this day.

Well the temperatures are rising and with the sun higher in the sky the snow is melting quickly.

Wow can you believe it almost the end of March …… April is right around the corner.

Easter a week away.

My last shift at the store is one week from this Saturday.

I am so looking forward to this next chapter.

Well time to go to the office.

I can hear my ride ….

Have an awesome day.

Remember to learn something new everyday that is what keeps our brains “firing.”

Learning.

Special Hello to: all those folks who try to learn something new each day.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day…..

Good Morning and Welcome to Tuesday the 30th and last day of September, 2014.

I am sad that September is over but happy that October lies ahead.

Not too sad, though.

October is 31 days closer to putting up my Christmas tree and decorating both inside and outside of the house.

This year I have my daughter right close and we can share this experience even more so than other years.

Soon we shall be putting up Halloween decorations, that is my other favourite time of year.

My daughter and son-in-law have some cool Halloween decorations and she said we can use them this year at my house.

How cool.

Anyway, it is always good to have something to look forward to, plan about and dream for …….

I love this time of year ……

So it is always extra special.

Thoughts are just ones of excitement for these months ahead.

The smells, colours and music ….. nothing better other than the feelings that surround the holidays.

Well time to go to work.

I will be thinking of decorating for both Halloween and Christmas …..

Mmmm, what to do…..

So much.

Special Hello to: my cousin “J” in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan ……

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day…..

Good Morning and Welcome to Thursday, the 20th day of June, 2013.

Well it is almost the first official day of summer and the longest day of the year.

Whew.

I must share an early morning experience…… so please indulge me and close your eyes …… aaa

Whoops I guess you need to have your eyes open to read ….. sorry I keep forgetting that I am not there to narrate…..

Beautiful morning – partially cloud covered sky with the sun a ball of yellow and orange and red coming up in the east.

Alvin and I are out and about enjoying our morning walk.

A cool breeze carries the fragrance of the roses that line the entrance to the park where we have been walking everyday.

We both stop by the roses ….. me to breathe in that intoxicating fragrance and Alvin

“to water them.”

Yikes….now that changed the whole tranquil relaxing setting ….. hello…. Mr. Alvin, “REALLY” ….. as I giggle.

He is only doing what comes natural, and I am quite certain that the poor roses are quite used to that extra watering.

I am so grateful that we can enjoy the walk along with the roses ….. the flowers are HUGE this year. .

Due in part to the rain, I am sure.

So many buds ready to burst open for us to enjoy …..

They are the most gorgeous pink and I am certain that my Grandma Stella would have loved them.

Thank you …… I hope that you have a great day.

Remember to stop and smell the roses ……

Special Hello to:  YOU ALL …..

Always, Carol and Alvin ……  “Mr. Alvin” ….. whoops I forgot ……. LOL….
