2021

Good Morning ALL. How are you today? Wednesday. Midweek once again. Surely seems like the weeks fly by. Sometimes during the day we may not think so but when you look at the day of the week it certainly does. Funny story, yesterday after work I had just put on my winter boots and was going to put on my winter coat, mitts etc. to go out and shovel Sonja’s front sidewalk (neighbors in other half had done mine earlier) when I noticed the name and phone number of my Optometrist’s office flash across my SMART TV. I thought that is odd as I had given them my cell number and told them that that number was no longer in service. With boots on I ran quickly to grab my cell phone and call them. The receptionist asked me if I could hold and I of course said yes. While I patiently waited to see if my new glasses were in. A few minutes later she came back on the line and I explained about the phone number and got them all updated including my work number which I had forgotten about. These days an appointment is required to do anything so I set one up for this Saturday at 1:30 p.m. with the knowledge that the temperature is supposed to be warmer or at least that is what the weather guy said. In the morning I am hosting a birthday party for one of my neighbours and friend – there will be three of us in attendance. The three of us. We are going to have the party in my garage. I don’t have a car so I have lots of room for social distancing and I have comfortable furniture that I can set out and a table. I will be doing some rearranging on Friday night. So Saturday will be exciting. Friends over and we have not had a visit in person for a long time. Also new glasses. YAY. Oh, after the phone call – I went out and shovelled my neighbours sidewalk. What goes around comes around, I always say.

Well as Mr. Alvin is very anxious to go back downstairs and perhaps he has to go outside, I will repost a poem that I wrote many years ago, actually almost ten. I am feeling very grateful, very thankful this morning. There is so much more I could add to this poem but it does say what is in my heart. Thank you.

December 29, 2020 – close to a New YEAR.

Good Morning ALL. The sun is shining and I can imagine birds singing. The sky is clear. I can see a bird flying in the distance. Well here we are Tuesday, December 29, 2020. How are you doing this morning? I am doing well. I must admit that even though we were up at 4:10 a.m. we hit the sofa after that until quite late. Something in me, just wanted to lay there, I did really sleep in until after 9:00 a.m. but rather I laid there looking at our Christmas Tree. I had made the decision last night to take down the tree today. There is something about the stillness of the morning and the unlit Christmas Tree that is so wonderful. A vision to behold. So many of my ornaments can tell a story. Sometimes you just have to take a step back and look. Just one of those lazy, pondering kind of mornings. Then I am “mad” at myself for not getting up and getting things done earlier. I cannot please myself. LOL.

Yesterday I went and picked out frames. It was definitely different from the past when I would go and have my eyes checked and then pick out my frames and then be on my way. This time I had the eye exam on December 11, 2020 and then on December 28, 2020 went back to pick out frames. There was lots of hand sanitizer involved, social distancing and mask wearing happening. I pointed to several pairs of frames and “Kelsea” grabbed them and once I had a tray full we went back and sat down. She gave me a mirror and I tried each one on. She advised to have two piles, one that I liked and the other that I did not like, so that is what we did. It was easy at first once I tried the frames on. The front of the office is all windows so it was very bright. The brightness really made me look pale even though I had put on my makeup. I narrowed it down to a few and then snapped photos to send to my daughter who was “waiting” to see my choices and to help me make the decision. In the end, it was down to two and we both liked one pair more than the other and Kelsea thought the same. It is nice to have photos of your choices as it used to be you picked out frame and then waited until they came in before you really remembered what they looked like. Technology is a good thing for sure. I will say that after looking at them later although I am happy with my choice there are three that I really did like. Oh well. I chose the ones that reminded me of a pair of glasses that Kelly Ripa wore on Live with Kelly & Ryan. Anyway it is done. They are paid for and I just have to wait for them to arrive. Kelsea said it would take about three weeks at the latest. Everything is taking just a bit longer than preCovid. I am happy that I was able to get this done before the end of the year.

Well it is now 10:00 a.m. – can you believe it. I guess we should be going to bed at our usual time, I forgot to say that we were up later last night watching of all things ….. Christmas movies on the Hallmark Channel. There are so many that I did not see or did not watch in its’ entirety. Oh well, I guess this is a week off and time to just do what I can do or not. Just turned my head to see the sun shining so brightly that the snow on the garage roof appears to be a massive lot of diamonds. So beautiful.

Yesterday morning on Live with Kelly & Ryan …… the Story of the Day was about this family from Calgary, Alberta. The Williams Family who make reindeer lawn / outside ornaments and then give the money to homeless shelters. The City of Calgary is just south about 2.5 hours of where I live in the City of Edmonton, Alberta. So excited to see Canadians making “the news” for good work.

I hope that you are doing well on this Tuesday. Mr. Alvin is ready to go back downstairs. I will get some photos uploaded to WordPress for tomorrow. Or is it downloaded?

Enjoy this Tuesday, December 29, 2020. Be well. Be safe. We shall all continue to live with kindness, respect and compassion.

I am grateful this day to have some time off from work with pay. I am grateful to live in a beautiful country. I am grateful to live with my best buddy Alvin. I am grateful for good food, good friends and family. Life is good. May 2021 be even better. I am grateful that so many folks are reading my posts. I am overjoyed.

December 28, 2020 – close to a New YEAR

Good Morning ALL. Well we sure seem to be sleeping in although we are up earlier and then keep hitting the “snooze button” and returning to the sofa. The sky is most pretty this morning as the sun rises. It is filled with ribbons of blue and pinks and yellows. No visible wind. Looks like another beautiful day. Alvin and I went for a great walk yesterday afternoon. Not quite melting weather but single digits below zero, which cannot complain about this time of year. Today I am going to try on frames for my new glasses. I am excited and nervous as it will be much different than usual. They make appointments to do this, I am not sure exactly how much time I will have to pick them out as I forgot to ask that question when I had my eyes checked and realized that you had to make another appointment. Oh well, I will soon find out. My appointment is for 1:00 p.m. – I might see if I am able to text photos of me in the frame to show my daughter for advice. I am not sure how they have this all set up. I can see the sun starting to brighten up the eastern horizon. How rude of me, I forgot to ask how you are doing? Are you back to work or are you enjoying some extra well deserved time off? I am enjoying the later as our office closes for the time between Christmas and New Year’s. I have decided that I am going to take down the decorations and tree starting tomorrow as it takes a couple of days or so to do this. Big job. I want to have some days before I go back to work that are relaxing. Oh, who am I kidding? For the first time in my life, I am ready to have everything down and ready to bring in the New Year. I have taken down the Christmas decorations or at least started on New Year’s Eve but I cannot remember the last time that I had everything down and put away before New Year’s Eve ….. I don’t think it has ever happened. Perhaps some of my family and friends will remember? Anyway, I think that as this has been such a tangled, unbelievable, no word description of a year that I am going to start the NEW YEAR doing something different. Why not. I may give Mr. Alvin a haircut on the weekend. He needs more food so I will be making a trip to the Vet with on my way home from picking out frames or else will pop over there tomorrow. Likely tomorrow.

Wishing our neighbour and Humphrey’s and Bogart’s Momma a very Happy Birthday. She is feeling under the weather so wishing her a speedy recovery.

Nice to see the sun shine early in the day.

To my daughter and son-in-law as I do not remember who gave me which book, I started reading one of them last night and using my new magnetic bookmark (such a great invention). The book is good. Do not remember the title. Yesterday I wrote in my Christmas Card book – all of the lovely and thoughtful gifts that I received for Christmas 2020. Definitely spoiled this year.

I also went through the freezer and packed up a large container with baking – texted first – then delivered to a family who lives two doors down. I thought what Mom of four has time for much baking and I had so much and I certainly do not need any more. We had a quick visit with me on the sidewalk and her on the porch.

I hear a plane go in for a landing but the airport is 25 minutes away OR perhaps it is a big big truck on the highway. Not sure which but loud. LOL.

Well time to go and get changed and cleaned up. Perhaps I will put on some makeup today as I am going out. Might be a good thing when trying on frames.

Wishing you all a great Monday, December 28, 2020. The New Year is right around the corner and I have a feeling that although it may start off slow meaning we are not going to be rid of this virus as the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve. Actually more than a feeling. My wish for the New Year is for people to listen to the Health Care Professionals. Wear Masks. Social Distance. Stay home. Wash your hands. If you think about it and I know that there were families out there that got together for the holidays not heeding the restrictions set out by the Government / advice by Health Professionals that the new cases are going to once again rise. Was it worth it? I will never understand the reasons why some people may think that it was a necessity to get together for Christmas. I would rather be alone and have another Christmas to celebrate than get together and then have someone die or me.

Sometimes we have to say something.

2021 is going to start quiet. We are going to listen. Christmas 2021 will be spectacular.

Well time to get this show on the road. Argh, almost 9:30. Where does the time go?

Have a great day. Be safe.

Living with kindness, respect and compassion.

Happy Monday.

Always, Carol & Alvin

It is a NEW YEAR.

Good Morning and Welcome to the DEEP FREEZE.

ARGH, cold temperatures for the next week.

On the plus side our winter has been relatively mild until this cold snap.

Should we be complaining?

Likely not.

But will we?

Likely yes.

My carpool decided to take today off from work.

Usually this would mean that I would be taking the bus.

Lucky for me, my neighbour is giving me a ride to work.

I am on my own going home.

One way is okay.

Well this has placed a damper on our walks for the next days.

Usually Alvin likes to mull around outside when he is out doing his business or just hanging out.

Not now.

He does his business and runs back to the house.

Not much coaxing which is fine by me.

No offer of a treat to come inside.

Likely best for the waistline.

So we are playing more ….. Alvin is playing more if truth be told.

Tonight down comes the Christmas tree and then I will spend part/most of the weekend taking down the decorations.

Thankfully I only have a couple of items outside.

The wreath on the door and a small tree on the porch.

The wreath I can quickly grab despite the cold but the tree can remain on the porch until the temperature warms up.

It will be good to get back to the normal decorations although it does seem bare in the house for a few days.

But sometimes BARE is good.

Actually I have so  much Christmas ….. it looks like a store.

The rest of the year is much more low-key.

So that is good.

I was thinking of something as I was going to bed and of course, did not write it down.

A topic to write about this morning.

Note to self: when a great idea comes to your mind – WRITE IT DOWN, you silly girl.

I am also going back and forth between glasses this morning.

I have two pair.

One is older but as my prescription did not change, I can continue to wear them.

One pair has plastic frames, and the other are wire/metal.

The metal/wire frames sometimes bother by my ears.

But they have a slightly bigger lens and I like that.

I have to decide before wearing them for more than a minute or two otherwise will have a headache.

Small decision.

Will check out in the mirror and then decide.

What is new with you?

Did you set out with New Year Resolutions?

I did not, really.

I just try to do better than I did the year before in all aspects of my life.

Body, mind and soul.

Well almost time to head off downstairs.

On poop patrol.

Now those brown packages freeze before they hit the ground.

Easy to pick up.

I hope that on this cold Friday that you are warm and safe.

I wish that rain would extinguish ALL of the fires in Australia without massive flooding.

I wish that there would be PEACE in the Middle East and around the world.

I hope that everyone has a good day.

Yes, everyone.

Remember to breathe.

Go to the bathroom and fake yell if you need that release.

Shake it off.

Put one foot in front of the other!

Soon you will be walking out the door or opening doors to better things.

Happy Friday.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day…..

Good Morning and Welcome to Saturday the 7th day of March, 2015.

How are you doing this morning?

I am doing well.

The sun is shining and I can see the neighbouring trees blowing in the wind.

Thank goodness for the wind ….. it will help dry up the water/ice.

It was so icy on the way home from the bus last night.

I literally took careful and deliberate steps all of the way home.

This is my last Saturday off for a bit so I have a few chores to do.

I was thinking that I need a boost so I will colour my hair.

Mr. Alvin, I think it is bath time and perhaps a slight hair trim.

The house is quiet as the kids were out late at my son-in-law’s brother’s 50th birthday celebration.

I worked until well after 10:00 p.m. so was home after 11:00 p.m.

I love when Alvin sits on the bed and looks intently out of the window.

He zeros in on something ….. could be a cat ….. could be a wild “bag” that is flying around the ‘hood.

My darling.

I look forward to the time when I can spend more of my time at home with him.

How lovely to once again go on two walks everyday.

Especially in the summer/fall.

Well time to get this day in motion.

I am dressed – check

Bed made – check

Glasses on – check (just being silly because sometimes you just have to be)

Blog written – check

Time for coffee – check (have to made said coffee)

Time to start laundry – check

Have a great day – check

Special Hello to: all my fellow bloggers …. what a cool way to get to know the world.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Reminder to Everyone – Life is like that…..

The past couple of weeks I have been working on medical appointments.  You know going to the Doctor for a check-up.  Well, now when you get a new Doctor – you must do the “meet and greet” and then see if they want to take you on as a patient. I found this strange but yet a great idea.  Guess it can work both ways.  Anyway, I met the Doctor, and he is nice.  He gave me the paperwork to go to the Lab for blood work, and urine sample and also to go and have a mammogram.

Also I made an appointment to go and have my eyes checked.  Lucky for me, all of the medical offices are in my neighbourhood.  My eyes only changed slightly.  My distance vision improved slightly, so that means my close-up has depreciated slightly.  Oh well, likely a sign of years.  One good thing is I got to pick out new glasses.  Always nice to get a new pair of frames.  Makes me feel like a new woman.  Giggling out loud or GOL.

Yesterday, I had the lab and mammogram appointments (both in same building, how very convenient and I am grateful).

First appointment was at the lab.  The technician, Alma took a few tubes of blood from my arm (which was absolutely painless, thank you Alma) which was followed by the “pee in the cup”.  They have a few rules that you must follow to give them a proper sample but it was painless.  Good instructions.  LOL.  Alma also presented me with this plastic ziploc bag with some papers and stuff inside.  She said “I have some homework for you”.  I thought great.  I haven’t been in school for what 35 years, and now I am getting homework.  Guess what the homework was??  Never thought it was a “stool collection”.  That is not my idea of “homework” more like yuck.  Horror all of horrors, taking a popsicle type stick and well perhaps the details here are not important (I am certain that you get the picture).  LOL.  Wow, just thought of something.  Why would we call something you sit or stand upon a “stool” …..?

Oh, I forgot to say that the building that housed the lab and mammogram offices …. also had some stores.  Zellers and Shoppers.  So guess what – I went shopping.  Always a good way to spend time when you are early.  Found some pj’s on sale, and picked up some notebooks for writing, and yes, the winning lottery tickets.  I have them…..  Reminder to always be early and book extra time in between appointments.

Also had to do the old mammogram.  I feel for those ladies who are less endowed as it is not entirely a fun process.  Although it certainly wasn’t awful.  It seems strange to me in this day and age, with all of our technology – that we do not have a better way to check our breasts for unwanted objects.  I mean really – sticking your boob between two plates of glass. There just has to be a better way.  The young lady that looked after my “boobs” for the mammogram was lovely.  Had a great sense of humour.  I think that would be number one on the list of things needed to do that particular job.  I felt complete, when I had the ladies in the waiting room laughing over the size of boobs.  Since I turned 50 – they really do start to do the Snow Bird thing by going south.  It is not a pretty sight with no bra.  But I know that I am not alone.  LOL.  Appointments completed.  Just have to do the homework.  Remember do not p-r-o-c-r-a-s-t-i-n-a-t-e on this one.

I was also grateful that my kids were able to drive me there and pick me up.  How wonderful is that.  I think that I should buy a car.  A beautiful shiny red – Toyota – RAV4.  That is the one that I would love to own.  Okay back to the story.

Upon arriving at home, I found a phone message from the Optometrists Office letting me know that my new eyeglasses had arrived.  So my wonderful daughter drove me over to pick them up.  When I first put them on ….. I thought yikes, I noticed the difference in the prescription right away.  Love the new frames.  They told me to start wearing them today (better to wait till morning).  Thank you.  Good advice.

Next item on my medical to do list is a visit to the dentist.  The appointment is a couple of weeks away.  Time for cleaning and check-up.

Well, that is it for now.  Just have to do my homework and go the dentist and ALMOST forgot ….. back to the Doctor for the “annual check-up” …… that’s okay.  I’m up for it……

So reminder to everyone – make sure that you have your medical appointments on a regular basis.

All of the technicians, nurses, and Doctors were amazing.  Made the process “painless” …….

Take care, be happy and healthy everyone.

Enjoy your life as much as I am enjoying mine.

Happy Days.

Always, Carol
