Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Friday the 5th day of April, 2019.

Still dark outside but sun is shining in my heart.

I want to take this moment to send positive energy to family member and friends who are in need of some extra “help.”

My heart is open and I am thinking of you at this time.

May what you need come to you sooner than soon.

We all have our ups and downs.

No matter what is going on in your life; show gratitude.

I would like to take this time to say thank you for one of my favourite people in television.

She is one of a current duo.

Today is her last day on the 4th Hour with HODA; she is Kathie Lee Gifford.

I have watched her from Canada for most of her twenty-six years on television.

Firstly, she won our hearts with Regis and then with HODA.

Throughout those years she has made  appearances on other television shows, done commercials and movies.

Kathie Lee is boundless energy, love, kindness, witty, talented and so much more.

She makes us laugh and takes us to places where we may shed a tear or two.

Oh how she makes me laugh.

I will miss that part of her the most, I think.

This week once again she brings her strong faith and humour and energy to those final shows.

I wished that just once I had made it back to New York to see her and HODA in person; on the TODAY Show.

She gives everyone hope that is over 50, well over 60 – women and men that you can still change gears and do what you love.

There is no age limit.

Just do it.

She gives me hope; she gives us all hope.

I am proud to share the birth month of August with both Kathie Lee and HODA.

I share the same birthdate of August 9th with HODA.

Cheers to you Kathie Lee Gifford.

Wishing you all the Best for I know will be an amazing future.

Looking forward to seeing your movies.

Thank you.

Well time to go to work.

Special Hello to: Kathie Lee Gifford.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Saturday the 11th day of August, 2018.

Happy Birthday to my brother “J.”

Wishing you a great day my brother.

The sky is overcast with smoke and clouds.

I so wished that it would RAIN.

Rain and put out all of the forest fires.

The smoke has been intense here and I can only imagine what it is like in the areas affected by the fires.

WE have been spending a quiet last day or so.

Me and the boys (Alvin and Teddy) have been vegging in front of the fans.

No windows open as it has been so smoky.

Too hot to move around much.

I am also watching Humphrey the Cat and Cinder the Gecko.

Just watching the babies.

Too hot to spend the time that I need writing up my HOLIDAY POST complete with PHOTOS.

But I will.

The babies are wanting to go downstairs.

I had a refreshing shower.

I have found that a wet facecloth laid on the pups backs/tummies when they are laying down, helps keep them cool.

Funny how both of them actually just laid with the cloth on them.

I am so excited to share my Birthday trip stories and photos (there are lots of photos).

But with the heat and the smoke, I cannot spend much time upstairs on the computer.

But I will.

Time to go check on the other babies.

Mine want to go outside.

I sure hope that it rains.

The gal that baked my 60th birthday cake from work has been asked to bake me one for my 61st.

The cake is being delivered this morning.

I have invited friends over to share ….. this will be a two or three event.

Whenever people have time to come and have a piece of cake.

Getting hot now.

Have to move the fan back downstairs to cool the main floor.

Have a great day.

Keep cool and I hope that you are safe.

Special Hello to: all those folks who read my posts, thank you.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Saturday the 4th day of August, 2018.

Already well into August …. where does the time go?

A beautiful morning.

You can see the sun trying to peek through the cloud cover.

There is a breeze.

First time in a long while where we slept with no fan blowing on us.

With the window open last night it was so comfortable.

Even had the blankets on ….

Well we had fun at West Edmonton Mall yesterday.

The Nephew decided that he wanted to go to Galaxyland and go on the rides.

Galaxyland has 27 or so rides including two rollercoasters.

One makes people scream in terror and the other makes them scream in delight.

The boy went on the smaller rollercoaster four times.

He went on the ship – twice.

He also went on this ride that “tested” your G-force ability – twice. (that ride went up 130 feet in 2 seconds or so at about 40 kms).

His Grandma and his Aunt were just as happy to be watching and taking photos from a distance.

We did some shopping and were finished and on our way home before it got too crazy busy in the mall.

Tomorrow the company leaves.

Both Alvin and I are going to miss them.

This morning while we were having coffee, I happen to stand up and noticed a HUMMINGBIRD in my flowers just outside the kitchen window.

Managed to snap a couple of photos.

I had the kitchen window open and Alvin let out a bark and the Hummingbird was gone.

I do hope that it comes back to visit.

Wishing that the photos were more sharp.

Well better get back to my company.

Alvin and I are hosting a BIG BIRTHDAY PARTY tonight for all the August birthdays.

We will have 5 adults including me, 3 children including one almost teenager and 3 dogs.

Auntie and I have some food prep to do so we better get cracking.

Supper is not until 7:00 p.m. so we have lots of time.

But nice to be done early so we can relax a bit before the company arrives.

Happy Saturday already.

Special Hello to: my family and friends here and there.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Thursday the 19th day of July, 2018.

What a gorgeous morning.

Alvin and I went for a walk at 5:15 this morning.

The birds serenaded us as we walk around our ponds – park area.

The fountain was silent as they turn it off at night.

So no water falling.

Robins hopping along looking for breakfast.

We did receive a shower in the early morning hours which helped to cool the HOT MUGGY air and give the plants, trees and flowers some extra moisture.

Our house is WARM.

I have the windows open, the electric fan and the furnace fan ALL going but it remains warm.

Not as cool in here this morning as it was yesterday morning.

Accumulated heat?

Luckily it is not to be as hot today.

The sky is that beautiful pale blue with a few morning clouds floating around.

The sun is shining brightly already high in the sky.

I captured a couple of photos of cool cloud formations last night.

Those stiff WHITE ones, the ones that look as though they mean business.

Something coming.

You know the ones.

Well it is almost time to go to work.

I need to go and make sure that I can have the house as cool for Mr. Alvin as possible.

Leaving the bathroom door open on the main floor as it is always cooler in there.

Always good idea at this time of year as it is on the inside wall – in event of a storm.

I hope that you are enjoying your July …..

I can hear the crows cawing, cawing ….

Have an awesome Thursday.

Special Hello to: my sister … not long now.

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Tuesday the 10th day of July, 2018.

It is a beautiful morning here in Edmonton.

Alvin and I went for a walk at 5:00 a.m. just as the sun was beginning to rise.

The sky was different hues of pinks and red/oranges, so pretty.

There was not a soul out until we were on our way home and then we saw a lady and her pup.

Thankfully it was cool even without a breeze.

We opted not to walk last night as I felt it was too warm for us.

Perhaps more for me …. I don’t know.

I am always aware of Alvin and his fur coat.

Well it is Tuesday.

The traffic is humming at this time as people make their way to and from work or perhaps just leaving on a vacation.

We are pet/house sitting for a neighbour this weekend.

The next weekend my daughter and pups are coming for a sleepover weekend, yay.

Then basically one week until my sister, niece and great nephews arrive for a visit.

So excited.

Then I will be off on vacation for about 10 days.

During that time my daughter and I will take a road trip together.

I cannot wait.

Will miss Mr. Alvin but will be good to get away.

I always love my adventures with my girl.

We try to go off the beaten trail just a bit (but being safe) and get some amazing photos.

Our office is closed while we install a new version of our computer program.

During the closed time we will be in training and spend some time cleaning our workspaces and odds and ends.

Always something to do.

Excited to see this new version in place.

Well almost time to leave for work.

I was able to cool the house down some with the windows open and the fan going.

Will go downstairs and spend some time with my boy.

Perhaps he needs another massage.

Have an awesome Tuesday.

Keep safe and cool.

Be kind to those around you and always try to do the right thing.

Not necessary your “right” but what is best in the situation.

Special Hello to: my family, near and far.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Friday the 22nd day of June, 2018.

HOT temperatures blasted our City for the past few days.

Thankfully it has been cool to walk in the morning.

Thankfully during the night we had some rain and it has cooled things down outside a bit and there are crashes of thunder happening now.

Looks like more rain.

We opted for no walk this morning as with the rain comes mosquitos as that was apparent in the back yard.

We will go for a walk tonight.

Cute story from yesterday morning.

AS you know I caught the bus to work.

On the way to the office I stopped by a nearby 7-11 to see if they had bus tickets.

They had tickets on hand,  so I decided to also grab a cup of coffee.

I almost pulled out a row of cups for the cool drinks with my bag, how funny.

Just call me “Grace.”

After I decided on which blend of coffee, I poured the size that I wanted and gingerly carried the cup to the other side to grab a wrap to put around the hot container.

There had been a young man on the same side pouring his coffee so that is why I went to the other side for the wrap.

After I slipped the piece of cardboard onto the cup, I looked for the lids.

Did not see lids?

So I asked this very handsome young man “Excuse me, do you know where the lids are hiding?”

He smiled and replied “Over here” and as he carefully grabbed one he said “Oh, I am sorry if I got germs on it.”

I replied “No worries, a few germs don’t hurt you.”

He laughed.

We carried on a conversation about germs until we reached the counter.

He got there first and started his transaction and then told the cashier that he would pay for my coffee.

I blushed and said “thank you but I am getting bus tickets so that is okay, but thank you for making my day.”

We went back and forth for a few more seconds before he was on his way.

Polite young man.

He had said that someone recently had out of the blue paid for his coffee and he was surprised by a stranger’s generosity.

Nice to see such kindness.

He made my day for sure.

I will continue to speak to strangers and ask questions about coffee lids.

Yesterday the power went off in the late morning at morning and with it the A/C.

So home we were sent.

I was signing leases when the power first went out and managed to finish them.

Thankfully one of the higher ups gave me a ride home so that I would not have to wait for the bus.

With this heat one’s energy seems to drain quickly.

Alvin and I had a long nap yesterday afternoon by the fan.

Teddy, our little four-legged friend arrived last night and will stay with us until Saturday.

So grateful that Alvin has company.

So important during the summer heat to keep hydrated.

Keep animals and children and seniors and YOU out of hot vehicles and hydrated.

If you think going for a walk is nice when it is HOT – your small children and DOGS do not.

They can get very sick or every DIE from being OVER HEATED ….. heat exhaustion/heat stroke are real.

Another real situation is the burning of a dog’s pads on their paws.

A few years back we found a lost dog wondering by our house on a hot, hot day – we managed to secure the poor one and bring into my back yard.

I had Alvin and also my daughter and two pups visiting with other family members.

Back yard was a good choice in the shade to check the doggie.

This poor dog was in bad shape.

We had no idea how long she had been outside in the heat without food or WATER.

We gave the doggie some water, slowly and found when checking that the pads on the bottom of her paws, were raw from the HOT PAVEMENT.

We took this dog to the EMERGENCY VET Clinic for treatment.

PLEASE be aware that when you are walking your dogs on these incredibly hot days whether on the sidewalk or pavement that it is BURNING HOT.

How would you like to be forced to walk in your bare feet on scorching hot sidewalks and pavement, you know that you would not.

Be KIND.

So please either take your dogs for a walk early in the morning before it becomes too hot.

Walking in the early morning is so relaxing and enjoyable.

Always have water with you regardless.

Keep everyone as cool as possible.

BASEMENTS are a good place to relax in the heat.

Have a great Friday and enjoy summer.

Special Hello to: all my friends and family.  Keep cool and safe and hydrated.

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Tuesday the 11th day of July, 2017.

What a difference in temperatures between Sunday night and last night.

It really cooled down.

Did not even need the fan on during the night.

The sudden drop in temperature always freaks me out a bit as it generally means a storm is brewing.

They did forecast some tornadoes in central Alberta last night.

We are grateful to sleep with just the window open.

Well Mr. Alvin did not sleep through the night last night.

I am beginning to think that it had something to do with the “fan.”

Will try with fan on tonight and see what happens.

Having a small rain shower at this moment.

The air is cool and crisp ….. thank goodness for a cool house.

Just thinking about this ….. due to the cancellation of my bus in the morning …. I now arrive later but on time of course.

So instead of worrying about making coffee ….. one of my co-workers who changed her work schedule just recently ….. well she just whips up a couple of pots.

Thinking of me ….. they are ready for when I arrive.

How lucky am I?

I guess what goes around comes around …..

So for the summer I will have my morning coffee made for me.

In the fall when the bus schedule returns to norm …. I will gladly assume my coffee making duties.

What a great life I have….

I was thinking about great it would be to have 1,000 followers on my blog.

Years ago when I first started writing this blog on Word Press, I so badly wanted 1,000,000 followers.

Perhaps that was a bit on the high side.

Now reality has set in and this small town …. big city girl is grateful to have 665 followers.

Shooting for 1,000 ….. why not?

Special Hello to: all those folks who read my blog.  I am so grateful.  This is making my dreams come true.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Monday the 10th day of July, 2017.

We had a hot Sunday here in Edmonton.

Wow, second day in a row that Alvin has not woke up before me.

Either is the heat or the fan.

We had an early start yesterday and accomplished so much before 8:30 a.m.

Even though we had a walk earlier in the morning – we went again about 11:00 a.m. with our friends.

It was very humid.

Our house was hot except for by the fan so we just had a relaxing afternoon and even had a NAP.

Yes, we did.

Thankfully it is going to be cooler for the next couple of days.

So happy for that.

Thoughts and prayers with the people of British Columbia where fires are raging out of control and the province has issued a State of Emergency.

In this situations it is all of the wildlife and poor animals that are not able to get away from the fires that I worry about the most.

Special Hello to: my family and friends in B.C.  – keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.  Be safe.  I am praying for rain.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Sunday the 9th day of July, 2017.

What a hot day yesterday and tomorrow’s forecast is even warmer.

I am so grateful to my friend and neighbour for lending us an electric fan.

It has made our lives bearable in this heat wave.

Last night Alvin and I went for a walk just after 9:30 p.m.

The sun was going down and was still light out with a breeze.

It was delightful.

This morning, wait for it, GUESS WHAT?

Mr. Alvin slept in until 6:19 a.m.

Yes, he did.

I believe that is the latest he has ever slept in without getting up.

We were in bed at about 11:00 p.m.

He was pooped between the walk and the heat.

The air is cool this morning so after I write this blog – I am going to scoop him up and go for a walk.

Likely later will not be cool enough and I have to work tomorrow.

Forecast for earlier this week is COOLER with rain showers.

It is summer so some heat is to be expected.

Yesterday I switched around the living room.

I like it but it the way that the sofa is takes a bit of getting used to for both sitting on and watching television.

Just a lefty thing, I suppose.

It does look good.

Well better get in gear before it gets too hot to walk.

I hope that you are well and if it is HOT where you are – I hope that you have a fan.

Also, before we had the fan ….. I have this little lace fan and used it to fan both of us.

I think that Alvin actually liked it.

He was sure looking.

Happy Sunday.

Special Hello to: my friends all over the world.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Saturday the 8th day of July, 2017.

Another hot day on the way.

Nice to have warm weather but not good for energy levels.

Last night Alvin and I were invited to one of my neighbours for the evening.

We sat outside in their gorgeous back yard.

Alvin ran, jumped, rolled in the grass and barked with delight and a bit of anxiety.

My friend said it was all too much for him.

But after awhile he settled down and we all enjoyed the time together.

We sat on their covered swing which fit me, my friend and Mr. Alvin.

He would jump up (when it was swinging) and we would chat and just relax.

After we were there for awhile – Alvin he jumped up and snuggled next to my friend.

Oh, I loved that ….

There was a beautiful breeze and it was wonderful.

She treated me with lemon pie and lemonade which was delicious and Alvin with carrots.

Alvin drank the whole bottle of water that I had brought with us.

We were talking about the heat and air conditioning and such.

She loaned me a fan which because I have central air – I did not own.

So last night we were comfortable with windows open and the fan blowing.

Isn’t it funny how whenever we need something it has a way of showing up.

Also to note that when we were first up this morning at 4:30 it was raining……

I felt like standing outside in the rain but as I had a nightgown on – decided against it.

Now I wished that I had …..

Well time to get going …. lots to do before it gets too hot.

Thankfully we have a fan to keep us cool.

I have the best friends, I would say.

Have an awesome Saturday.

Always, Carol & Alvin
