Last Half 2022

Good Morning ALL! Welcome to Friday, July 22, 2022. It is a beautiful morning. A mosquito got into the house earlier and wreaked havoc with the Momma but I survived. Not sure about the mosquito. There is a breeze, dark rain clouds to the south share the sky with the sun. Thankfully it will be a bit cooler today although I am not complaining about our temperatures. I know that all over the world including parts of Canada are experiencing way above normal temperatures. Climate Change! It is real.

I am happy to report that Mr. Alvin is closer to his old self. This morning he drank quite a lot of water from his dish without having it mixed in with his breakfast. He just looks and seems better. Yesterday in the later afternoon Michelle from the Vet clinic called to check on Alvin, she apologized for not calling sooner but they have been very busy. Oh, I get that. I told her all about how he was doing and she made me more confident that he was on the mend. She reminded me that he will not poop that much because he wasn’t eating that much and if he was getting water by way of with his food, that was great. As long as he was not vomiting, life is good. So I relaxed a bit. I will say that it put me in a totally different frame of mind and I felt more positive about how he was doing and this morning, well the proof is sitting not far from me. So happy.

Last night I had a wonderful video chat with my friend Val from Regina. They have had some wild weather as of late. One day they got 3 inches of rain, and the next day her garden was dry. Grateful that they did not have any flooding at their place and I checked on my sister, all good there. I am reminded that I need to chat with my friends and family back “home” a bit more often. Actually a lot more often.

My daughter and grand pup Milo are on their way here. Amanda is dropping off Milo on her way to work, and after work they will spend the night. We are so excited. I cannot wait.

They should be here in a few minutes so I want to be ready.

YAY, starting off to be a great day. It makes a difference in your mindset. I felt that I was slowly slipping to the dark side and now I am back. YAY, me.

Thank you friends and family.

Continuing to live this life with kindness, respect, compassion, patience, love, laughter, understanding, gratitude, focus, possibilities and coffee.

Always, Carol & Alvin

PS: wow only 18 days till I turn 65. Coming fast. YIKES.

2021

Good Morning ALL! How are you today? I, we are really good. Bed later as someone was watching a Christmas movie and then I read for a bit before lights out around 11:30 p.m. Mr. Alvin woke up about 1:00 but I coaxed him back to bed and we slept until 4:00 and then we were downstairs and outside. It was cool but the sky was amazing. The glitter of the stars as they surrounded the moon in the night sky. If I could have laid down on the deck, I could have watched the stars for hours. Then back into the house and we slept until 7:00 a.m. (can you believe that Mr. Alvin did not fuss about his breakfast before then?). I gave the boy his breakfast and decided that we should just stay up and not lay back down. Plus when we went outside I noticed that Humphrey & Bogart’s parents were up. So up we stayed. I have gathered the laundry, changed our bedding, got dressed and am doing this post now. Feels like I have accomplished so much and it is not even 8:00 a.m. One can always have a nap in the afternoon if needed. I am going to try and get up earlier on the weekends. Usually we have been getting up between 8-830. I guess it depends if you are a morning person or a night person, right! Some people I know get up at 6:00 a.m. every single day no matter what time they go to bed. I used to get up between 4:30-5:00 a.m. when I was working at the office and now it is 6:45 a.m. What a difference no commute makes? I am sure grateful that I am able to work from the comfort of my home. Alvin is grateful as well. What are your mornings like? Do you get up at 6:00 and go for a walk, exercise, have coffee and breakfast, write a post, clean the house, do laundry or perhaps all. I have quite a few things that I would like to accomplish this weekend with the big items being laundry and Christmas Cards. This time I would like to write up the cards that I hand deliver. If I get them ready this weekend, I will have them ready to deliver once I get the cookies baked next weekend. I usually give some homemade cookies / baking to some of my friends and neighbours. People that I can physically walk and deliver to but I also have some delivered. I love this time of year.

Yesterday, we went for a full walk at my lunch break. It was SO NICE outside. The air felt warm. There were a few icy patches but nothing serious and we both stayed upright the whole walk. I had to coax Mr. Alvin to stay on the public sidewalk when we approached his best friend Teddy’s house as he always turns at their driveway and pulls me up the steps to the house. Sometimes I cannot hold him back as he is still pretty strong. I guess he is hopeful that his friend is at home. I know he misses him a lot. We don’t seem them too much these days as they are back and forth to the farm. What a true friend. Teddy’s Mom said that they could have another sleepover soon. I know that Alvin will love having his friend over for the night. We all need friends no matter who you are!

I had a craving for some popcorn, the good stuff, the Kirkland brand from Costco so I reached out to my girl friends. My friend lives two minutes away so I walked over to pick up the popcorn. We had a chat in her entranceway catching up as time seems to zing by. It felt like forever since I had seen my Newfoundland Friend (she was born in Newfoundland, Canada). I was so grateful when she handed me four packages of popcorn, the good stuff. So happy. We were talking about Christmas, shopping and the state of affairs in our grocery stores. I have not been for weeks so I had no idea that there were bare shelves in our grocery stores. Our Save-On-Foods stores have their main office in British Columbia and a lot of the produce comes from B.C. and with the recent flooding and drought this past summer, the farmers are suffering with crop failure and loss so it then is passed on to the consumer. Not by choice, but that is how it works. So they are starting to bring in more produce from the U.S. I can only imagine how the pricing is going to increase even more than it has already. Anway, I was saying about getting low on produce and before you knew it, my friend was saying that she had two red peppers that she could not eat before they spoiled, could I use some potatoes as they were begin to sprout and that she was going to bake some banana bread and would bring me some later.

I was so grateful to my friend for the popcorn, some fresh banana bread and some other food items. My “stores” were getting low and with payday next Thursday, we had some time to wait before restocking the produce. I was out of fresh fruit, only had carrots left but we were not starving. There are sometimes when you want to clear out the pantry (thank goodness I had things in the pantry and freezer) and make sure that you use those items but it is always the fresh produce that goes first and those are the foods that I love the most. Let’s face it there is just so much you can do with chickpeas, lol. So I am grateful to my friend for hooking us up with some fresh produce, thank you. I felt like I had won the lottery. Please understand that we all run into times when might need a bit of help from someone and that is okay. I will be there when she needs me. That is what friends do.

Okay it is now after 8:00 a.m. and I hear the laundry calling me to take it to the basement and start it washing. I really would love a cup of coffee this morning. The sun is coming up. It is a good day.

Sometimes when you are in a moment of feeling low, someone comes along and brings sunshine to your cloudy sky. So grateful. The sky is clear and I feel wonderful.

Have a great day. Do me a favour, keep an eye on your neighbours and friends, sometimes people do not like to ask for help and sometimes, just sometimes, someone needs your help!

Continuing to live this life with kindness, respect, compassion, patience, understanding, love, laughter and gratitude.

Always, Carol & Alvin

P.S. I do love chickpeas and eat them weekly.

2021

Good Morning ALL! I hope that this finds you well. Alvin and I are doing well.

On November 12, 2021, an extreme rainstorm and snow was forecast for southern British Columbia. The rain did not stop. It just kept coming causing mudslides, unsafe road conditions and major flooding. Entire regions of the Fraser Valley were and are under flood water. The Fraser Valley is known for its rich farmland. There are many livestock farms (mainly cows and chickens and goats) and berry farms. I worked alongside my mum and sister as a teenager at one of those berry farms in southern B.C. at a town named Agassiz, and it breaks my heart to know that so many of these farms are destroyed. Many towns were completed flooded. Thousands of people were forced to leave their homes. Farmers trying desperately to save their animals. The loss of animal life is in the thousands. My thoughts and prayers are with the people and for the loss of animal life in southern British Columbia. Cleanup and repairs will take months to what can be saved. They had a hot dry summer followed by a wet fall and then this!

There is nothing else that I can say after this …… my heart is broken.

Continuing to this life with kindness, respect, compassion, patience, understanding, love, laughter and gratitude.

If you are dry and warm you are lucky, as am I.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Second Half of the NEW YEAR.

Whoa, what a storm we had last night.

It was like Mother Nature opened the mighty barrel and let it rain.

The rain was coming down so hard it bounced like a rubber ball off of the garage roof.

I was working on our after hours phone line last night in the middle of the storm.

Just minutes before I had popped out and put my flower pots into the garage.

So glad that I did.

There were a few however that I could not get into the garage but I sheltered them as much as I could.

Back to the storm.

I watched from my office window as the sky changed from a bright blue to overcast to utter doom.

For a bit I was nervous that perhaps there might be a tornado.

The wind was bending the trees almost in half.

Truly it was the night from you know what.

Thankfully it was relatively short lived and the sky was a clear blue by 9:30 p.m.

This morning the sky is blue and the sun is shining.

I have the window open and a nice cool breeze is tickling my neck as I key these words.

I can feel those tiny hairs standing up as they are now awake.

Grateful the storm is over.

I know that a great many folks had water in their basements.

I am grateful that my basement is dry.

I noticed one of my new plants that my friend Pauline gave me for my birthday have one new flower.

After I brought the flower pots out of the garage this morning, I quickly snapped a few photos.

Then I grabbed the cushions for the lower deck out of the garage and placed them accordingly.

What a gorgeous morning.

Well it is time for me to drink some coffee and get to work.

I hope that you have a Happy Friday.

Continuing to live my life with as much kindness and respect as possible,

I/We shall remain,

As Always, Carol & Alvin

P.S. Alvin has a vet appointment this morning. Mainly regular stuff but I think now his other ear has yeast infection and definitely his paws are bothering him.

Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Wednesday the 6th day of June, 2018.

A beautiful morning with sunshine and blue skies.

There remains at this time a bit of coolness to the air.

But to warm up over the course of the day and the next two.

Alvin and I enjoyed our walk last night.

Not too many folks out but we did bump into some folks we had met another time.

Last night I went over to my NORWEX Leader’s house for some additional information.

She is a nice person and reminds me so much of a gal that works at Alvin’s Vet Clinic.

They both sound exactly the same and even similar features.

Well my carpool starts vacation this afternoon so it will be back to taking the old City BUS until next Tuesday.

Will have to see what is new on public transit.

Likely should check to see if the schedule changed.

Funny how you can be dreaming and wake up and are surprised it was not actually happening.

I had such dreams last night well actually just happened while dozing on the sofa this morning.

We had 1.5 hours give or take, well actually take and I had the most bizarre dream.

There were dogs, me, a house, police officers, water, flooding, fake police officers, plants, carpool, work and more.

Well almost time to hit the road.

Happy to have a ride this morning.

Have a great Wednesday.

Special Hello to: all the dreamers….

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Wednesday the 13th day of September, 2017.

Dark outside and started to rain sometime after 4:30 a.m. this morning.

It is quite dry so a bit of rain is great for the plants and grass.

With the temperatures cooling down a bit – time to grab the spring/fall jacket.

Seems funny having long pants on two days in a row.

My legs feel odd.

Isn’t that the way it goes after all summer wearing shorts/capris/skirts and the like with bare legs.

Then fall comes and some days you need to wear pants.

That is the way she goes.

Well I am running a bit late ….. the extra clothing and lace-up shoes …… need time for that …..

I will say that we certainly enjoyed taking our walk last night – soon after Alvin had his supper.

Happy Wednesday you all.

To all those folks in the areas hit by the Hurricanes and flooding we are thinking of you.

We hope you are safe, dry and warm.

Special Hello to: my fellow human beings – please be kind to each other, to the planet and to all creatures big and small.  We need each other to survive.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day…..

Good Morning and Welcome to Sunday the 6th day of July, 2014.

The past two evenings just about the time that I have gone to bed …. the sky begins to light up and the thunder roars.

The wind gets up and then the rain comes down.

Mother Nature sure put on quite the light show last night.

I was very proud of Alvin ….. he did not seem to be bothered by all of the commotion.

I am very lucky as storms do not frighten me although sometimes the end result sure can be disheartening.

I know that some of my friends and family back in Saskatchewan are still dealing with the flooding from the storms of about a week ago.

My heart and prayers go out to them.

Also my thanks to all those people who have gone to help.

This morning the air is cool and it is windy.

Sky overcast looking like more rain for the forecast.

I am just having some oatmeal before I get ready to go to work at the store.

With the sky being overcast it looks like the store will be busy and also today is the last day of our semi-annual sale.

So we will be busy.

I hope that you had a great weekend.

I feel so great that with my daughter’s help we cleaned out “eight” rubbermaid containers from the basement.

Two huge black garbage bags out of the house.

YAY.  Am feeling pretty light this morning.

Good reminder to us all whenever you see someone in need – stop and help.

If there is anyway to help someone – do it.

We need to be better global neighbours.

Happy Sunday All.

Special Hello to: Saskatchewan, my old home province.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day……

Good Morning and Welcome to Saturday the 5th day of July, 2014.

I hope that everyone in North America had a great week of celebrations.

We celebrate Canada Day on Tuesday, July 1st and on July 4th our friends and neighbours to the south, the United States celebrated their birthday.

A full week.  Eating.  Fireworks.  YAY.

There were a great many of our fellow North Americans that have been caught in flooding due to the enormous never ending rainfall, also forest fires, hurricanes and tornadoes.

We hope that they are all safe and receiving help where needed.

Last night or actually earlier this morning we had quite the light show.

I am reminded of the power of Mother Nature.

One moment it was still – the next what seemed like torrential downpour.

Then it ended.

Then the thunder and the lightning.

A couple of times it was so sudden that I jumped up in bed.

I wonder how Alvin did ….. he is at his sister’s house.

It is overcast here this morning and windy.

Well time to get the laundry going, start moving things to the garage for the garage sale next weekend.

I am preparing the house for my daughter and son-in-law and my two grand-puppies who will be living with me and Alvin while their new home is being built.

It is a great time to donate, recycle, sell and give away items no longer needed.

I am so excited.

I have most of the upstairs done.

Just have to rearrange the basement and the garage somewhat.

Also string the bracelets for the wedding jewellery as next Saturday we are having a “jewellery fitting.”

I love the sound of those words.

I have heard of dress fitting but never jewellery fitting.

Sounds appropriate.

On this somewhat dreary but exciting day nonetheless, I hope you are happy and safe.

Take Care.

Special Hello to: my sister …… we have to talk …… and catch up.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day….

Welcome to Thursday, July 19th, 2012.

The skies in Edmonton or at least by my house are partially overcast …. so happy that I can see blue skies under the light cloud cover …

It rained again last night.

I always wonder when they are making the long range forecasts which “models” they use because ours was supposed to be hot and dry.

It has been hot but certainly not dry.

I love looking out the window at the sky.

There are so many shades of blue that appear to my eye and also pinks and oranges and yellows.

My favourite times to look up at the sky are early in the morning just as the sun is rising and then again at night when the sun sets and the stars are visible.

There is something about the sky ….. I would love to be an astronaut …. but perhaps I was at another time.

I am thankful for the rain as it has helped combat the dry and I hope that those people who have wet basements and such are able to get them dried out and fixed up soon.

Here are a couple of photos.

"Summer Sunset"

Sunset at the lake …. nothing like sunset in the summer.

Walking bridge flooded

Well almost time to go.

Early this morning as the Edmonton Capital Ex Parade is this morning so in order to get parking for the day …. have to go extra early.

Going to work not the parade.

If you are going …. enjoy.

One of these years I will attend the parade.

Posted a couple of photos and will do more later.

Thank you for indulging me …..

Have a great day.

Special Hello to:  all the photographers out there …..

Always, Carol and Alvin
