Last Half 2022 – October

Good Morning ALL! Here we are at Saturday, October 22, 2022. Our weather has been great and we are very grateful. Last night we were up a few times. It was about 10:00 p.m. when we crawled into bed and I read for a few minutes before turning out the lights. I heard Alvin moving about just after 1:00 a.m., he wanted to go downstairs, so down we went and then outside. The early morning air was cool but not cold. Back into the house and to the sofa to finish out our Friday night sleep. Mr. Alvin was up once again at 4:15 a.m., once again I donned my sweater and puffy vest over my pj’s, slid my sock covered feet into my outdoor shoes and requested Siri to turn on the flashlight as we headed outside. I was surprised to see wet snow coming down. The snow rain mix melted as it touched upon the ground. We both were a bit wet before we were back into the warm dry house. He pooped and peed each time. Thank goodness we have a comfy sofa as we were back there again. I felt too early to feed him breakfast at 4:15 a.m. I guess it was about 6:45 a.m. when we were up once again, this time, breakfast time. Back outside. Same result. So happy it had stopped with the wet snow. There was no trace that we had had snow. For all those people lucky enough to remain sleeping – you would have no idea, it even happened. Truthfully it did, lol. After the third time outside in less than 8 hours, I decided it was too early for me to thrust my tired body up for the day so once again we found ourselves snuggling under our “red” blanket. I think the red blanket was a purchase from Bath & Body Works many years ago when I first was employed at the store at West Edmonton Mall. I miss that store. The smells, the customers, the staff …..

Okay, so now it is the weekend. I have to finish the laundry. Washed clothing yesterday. Towels and bedding on the list today. Clean the bathroom and floors. Have a shower. Go for a walk. The sky is overcast and I hope for some “dry time” for us to head outdoors. We had a great walk yesterday. While walking, a woman was behind us and Alvin of course, stopped and wanted to wait until we were close to each other. She smiled and said that he was a cute dog in her strong Scottish accent. Oh, how I love that accent. We ended up walking together. Chatted about many things. Her dog, her grandchildren, my return to work, how Alvin was making out with that change and so much more. We were past Pauline’s house when we came to the crook in the path, she turned left and we turned right. I had been thinking that Teddy and Kobi were at the house with Auntie Janine as their parents were off to the mountains for a wedding. A few minutes later, we found ourselves, walking up their driveway and up the front steps with me ringing the doorbell. Kobi was first to the door, well actually she was up on the stool and looking out of the window. I could see her excitement to see us. I called out to Janine that it was us. A couple of minutes later the door opened. Teddy and Kobi gave us a lovely greeting and then we were in the house. I was grateful to Janine for the visit after we just “dropped in” but I had no idea really that we were going there. But we did. Janine is Iris’s sister. We met several years ago and have become friends. She lives in a small town in Saskatchewan about four hours away from Edmonton. It was nice to have a visit with her and the pups. Then we were on our way and back to get some work done. I had been afraid that I left the coffee perk plugged in but breathed a sigh of relief to see it was unplugged when we arrived home.

I am still trying to figure out what we should do about Alvin’s ears. The idea of surgery actually frightens me due to his age and because it is his ears. The vet even said that she has not performed this particular surgery in quite some time and will need to refresh herself with the procedure. Not very reassuring but I guess that happens. I do not know what to do. Yesterday I was doing some research in the hopes it may help me make a decision and I found that pumpkin actually contributes to yeast infections. So perhaps his having pumpkin daily to help with his pooping, is actually causing more yeast infections. I do not know. Perhaps the vet did not even know this. I had been giving it twice a day with his food. His Doctor said a tablespoon daily so I broke it up into twice with his breakfast and supper.

I watched a great movie on Netflix last night. It was called “The School of Good and Evil.” Figured should be watching some Halloween movies, not that it was particularly about Halloween but it fit into the genre. Tonight I am invited to Signe’s house along with Gillian to watch a Halloween movie. Signe’s daughter Madeline will come and stay with Alvin (she volunteered, how nice). It was not very long ago and she was actually scared of him. She had, had a bad encounter with another neighbour’s dog, well actually her Mom did but she witnessed it. Anyway, all is well now. I am happy about that.

Time to get the floor cleaned upstairs. I have moved plants around as my spider plants need some more sunlight, more than what they were getting in my bedroom. Changed the bedding and put out clean towels in each upstairs bathroom. I need to have a shower as well and want to do that after I clean the floor and then downstairs to have COFFEE and get some other items checked off that drat “TO DO LIST.” I have a parcel almost ready to go taking advantage of the “free mailing Tuesdays” in October.

I just heard Mr. Alvin groan so I better get this show on the road.

Happy Saturday Everyone!

Continuing to live this life with kindness, respect, compassion, patience, love, laughter, understanding, gratitude, focus, possibilities and COFFEE.

Always, Carol & Alvin

PS: please keep us in good health, please help our employers increase our time working from home and also please bring prices down. thank you.

Last Half 2022

Good Morning ALL! Today is Sunday, July 17th. Wow, July over half way over. This morning the sky is overcast and there is a breeze so it is much cooler than it was yesterday, thank goodness. I love the sunshine but not so much those +30 degree celsius days. We were up at 6:00 this morning but I was pooped from the heat yesterday so we slept until 8:00. Now I am up, laundry is put away and I am dressed and we will go for a walk after I publish this post. We have company coming at 10:00 for coffee so we have lots of time. I spent most of yesterday after our early morning walk, cleaning and cleaning and doing laundry. I even cleaned out some kitchen drawers – the utensil ones. They needed to be cleaned and reorganized. So now they are done! I also revamped the kitchen counter – meaning I reorganized the items that usually sit out. It was so hot in the house – that I had to just do things slowly. Even with all of our fans running it was HOT. I had Mr. Alvin covered with wet cloths from time to time during the day. Last night the temperature dropped with the rain so with the window open and the fun running it was comfortable for us.

I just realized that I did not vacuum the stairs and the landing where lies the only carpet in the house except for the family room in the basement and the stairs going down. I much prefer the laminate or some kind of non-carpet flooring. Easier to clean and just easier period. Someday I will replace the flooring including the stairs and the family room in the basement. Yes, we can always spend time in the basement if it gets too hot. It was somewhat cooler down there. Last year when we had a hot stretch we spent time in the basement.

I even baked a banana-raspberry loaf yesterday morning for this company today. That likely did not help with the heat in the house. Oh well. All done. I made a great salad last night with the lettuce and green onions from Lucy’s garden and a homemade dressing. It was so yummy. There is enough left for tonight.

Well not much new in our world. I was happy to get some rearranging and cleaning done. Washed the floors as well, up and down. Not that my house ever really gets “dirty” as I keep things tidy as I go along but there are times that we just need to do a more deep clean. I always feel better.

Last night I gave the plants/flowers a drink of water and then a few hours later it rained. Before bed we were outside for Alvin to pee and it was a beautiful slow easy light rain and I could have stood out there forever except for the mosquitoes.

I hope that you have a great Sunday.

Continuing to live this life with kindness, respect, compassion, patience, love, laughter, understanding, gratitude, focus, possibilities and coffee.

Always, Carol & Alvin

PS: only 23 sleeps till I am 65. Just a bit over three weeks, hard to believe.

Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Saturday the 30th day of December, 2017.

One more sleep until New Year’s Eve Day.

The sun is shining brightly but it remains COLD.

This photo although not from this year makes me think of winter.

Snow resting ever so gently on each branch.

Brown branch sticking out here and there.

Winter.

On these COLD winter days ME Alvin and I love to curl up together on the sofa.

He snuggles and I sip on a cup of hot coffee.

There is work to do.

I could wash the floors, dust and the like but somehow the COLD has made me feel sleepy and lazy.

At least in the morning.

The afternoon will see this ELF doing some housework.

Happy Saturday Everyone.

Special Hello to: you

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Saturday the 30th day of April, 2016.

Last day of April and to think that Mother’s Day is literally one week from tomorrow.

The sun is shining brightly and there is a slightly cool breeze at this time.

A bit later than I usually write this blog but we were up ultra late (after midnight) and first up at 6:00 (Alvin had to have breakfast).

Back to bed for a few more zzz’s as I have determined this to be a cold more than allergies.

My nose is red and dry ….. I would really like to just curl up on the sofa with my coffee and watch television all day but life goes on and there are things to do.

Isn’t that how it works?

Right.

We always need clean clothes and towels.

The floors need to be swept / vacuumed.

Things need to be dusted.

Paperwork to do …..

I really wanted to go and clean the walkway to 62nd Avenue for the fourth time this spring.

It is disgusting.

Each time I walk through I want to scream.

What is wrong with people?

I would love to find a way to make people more responsible for their throwaway stuff.

Someday.

One piece of garbage at a time.

Alvin is getting restless.

We sure enjoyed our walk last night.

We walked on the grass all around our lakes in the park near our house, and it was so nice.

I saw from across the lake four teenage boys throwing rocks into the water near some geese.

We were walking in that direction anyway so I took the opportunity to impart some wisdom.

As we got nearer there was one boy on the sidewalk away from the others.

Alvin was growling at him as we approached.

Only the second time he has ever growled at a human being.

The kid was on his cell phone… so not sure what was going on with Alvin.

Anyway I politely checked out the situation by slowly moving toward them.

They said they were throwing rocks into the water but not at the geese.

I politely returned by saying “If you were the geese would you like someone throwing rocks near you.”

I also pointed out that the lake was their home, and should be treated with respect.

The young man that was doing all the talking did not quite not what to say.

I did not continue further as they had stopped, and moved away from the water, rocks and the geese.

As they got nearer to the boy on the sidewalk – one asked what kind of dog Alvin was, and they smiled when I told them his name.

It ended up “friendly” but I could not resist making sure these kids knew it was not acceptable to treat wildlife in this manner.

I honestly do not think they were bad – just nothing better to do.

Well I guess I had better get going …. my clothes will not be climb into the washer on their own.

Laundry time.

I hope that you have an awesome Saturday …. last day of April, 2016.

I also want to thank my daughter for driving her Momma home from work yesterday, following that drove me to the grocery store, and to the Vet’s to grab some food for her brother.

Yes, I used my $50.00 gift card.

Perfect.

What would I do without my girl.

She is the most gracious, thoughtful, kind-hearted human being, and I cannot believe that she has some of my genes floating around inside her.

Everyday I am so proud of the most wonderful person she has become, and continues to be.

She is simply the best.

We love her very very much.

Happy Saturday Everyone …..

Special Hello to: all those folks who take the time to read my blog – it is so appreciated.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day…..

Good Morning and Welcome to Sunday the 26th day of April, 2015.

The sun is shining brightly, and it is a beautiful day.

Me and Alvin are awaiting “our company” for brunch.

YAY ….. our daughter and sister …. the grand-puppies …. and pancakes, and later COSTCO.

Does not get better than that …..

So excited.

Floors are washed …… dusting has been done ….

Just get dressed, and start making the batter for the pancakes.

My thoughts are all about my family this morning.

We miss having them here and are happy when they come for a visit.

Even now the house sounds so empty …..

I should turn on some music …..

HAPPY by Mr. P. Williams ….. I love that song.

So on this Sunday I hope that you are happy and perhaps waiting to spend the day with your family.

Maybe going out for brunch.

Maybe going for a walk with your sister.

Maybe watching a movie with your kids.

Maybe the whole family is coming for Sunday supper.

So time to go and get ready …..

They will be here soon.

Whoops almost forgot …. GET THE COFFEE READY.

Love coffee in the morning.

Enjoy this day.

Special Hello to: my siblings …. Happy Sunday to you.

Always, Carol and Alvin
