Last Half 2022 – August

Good Morning ALL! Well it is a good day. The sky is overcast and there is a bit of a breeze. Second day where the temperatures have been on the cooler side. Which is a wonderful reprieve. Still feels like summer which is great. Not that cool for sure – perfect break. As I look out of my office window I sit in awe of the huge tree which is across the back lane from my house, it is so massive that it covers the rooftops and garages of some of the houses behind it. I never really took note of it before but now I have and looking closer it may be two large leafy trees close to each other. Absolutely beautiful. I am running a bit late this morning as I just could not get my poop in a group and just kept setting the alarm a bit later. We were first up just after 5:00 a.m. which is a bit later than usual for Mr. Alvin. Outside and then back to the sofa for a bit until breakfast time. Not too many days now until my vacation. I kind of wished that I had taken two weeks but I like to keep some in my pocket so to speak, in case something comes up. Oh well, I am taking 6 days which is good because I will go back on a Tuesday and not a Monday which is always nice giving me three short weeks in a row.

Yesterday my daughter came over in the late morning to help me get a urine sample from Mr. Alvin. I had tried once when he went outside but no luck. I decided that a small round margarine container might work better. When I took my lunch break we both went outside and she patiently followed him around keeping low and close and she got lucky on her first attempt. I transferred the sample to a glass jar for transport to the vet. We had a little visit and she had some of the apple crisp that was in the fridge from the previous night. I filled up some water bottles for her and then she was on her way. Oh with parcel in hand to post for my friend Val’s birthday.

I had no idea of how long it would take to hear back from the vet so just carried on with the rest of the day. After work I decided we should get out for a walk as it was so nice. Not too hot. Just perfect for me and Alvin. We walked over to our friend Pauline’s house, she was not there at that moment so we just walked around their backyard admiring the flowers for a few minutes before heading back home.

Once home, I checked my phone and found that the vet’s office had called. I called back as I had not been able to check my voicemail recently. Another story. The receptionist said that Michelle, had called but she had stepped out for a few minutes. So we left it at – I would try and access my voicemail and if not able to or if needed to, I would call back tomorrow. I was able to access my messages and listen to Michelle basically tell me that he, being Mr. Alvin would require a change in diet. I was struck by the message. I decided to just wait until today and call the vet and get more details. Michelle said that they would retest his blood and urine in six months. When they are open – I will call back. If only diet change that would be wonderful. I think that Alvin could sense my deep relief as he was very playful in the early evening.

I hope that you have a wonderful day as it is time for me to head back downstairs. Put on the coffee and then start work shortly.

Continuing to live this life with kindness, respect, compassion, patience, love, laughter, understanding, gratitude, focus, possibilities and coffee. Feeling very grateful at this moment.

Always, Carol & Alvin

PS: only 6 days till 65.

Thought for the day ….

Good Afternoon and it is Sunday the 27th day of August, 2017.

Alvin and I had the best visit with our friends from Quebec.

It seems like they just arrived and then were gone.

The children are 13, 11 and 10.

I always forget that my friend “L” is only 13 as she is so grown up.

“M-L” is now 11 and not the shy little girl she was when they moved away and “D” well he is still soft spoken and very much a 10 year old boy full of wonder.

We had supper together, walked with Alvin and watered our friend’s flower garden, the girls picked out beads to make a bracelet and necklace upon their return home, and to end the evening we

watched “Galaxy of the Guardians Volume 2.”

It was a jammed packed evening but one I will remember always.

These children are like my own.

I am so grateful they came into my life.

They all took turns snuggling with Alvin on the sofa.

The morning came all too quickly.

I am quite certain that their Dad is going to miss them when they return back home to Quebec tomorrow and that their Mom is going to be very happy to see them.

I can honestly say that this has been one of the best Augusts that I have ever had in my entire life.

Lots of company and getting to spend time with some of the best people on this planet.

Well back to norm ….. it has been a hot day.

Thinking of family that live in Houston, Texas.

To all the residents of Houston and surrounding area you are in our prayers.

Well time to get a few things done …. back to work tomorrow.

Special Hello to: my family and friends.

Always, Carol & Alvin

COUNTDOWN: 60 Days to 60

Today is Monday, July 24, 2017 and it is the 17th day until my 60th Birthday.

I love flowers ….. any kind of flowers.

Whatever flowers I can get my hands on are the ones that I plant.

This year I have several perennials in my front flower bed thanks to my friend “P” who has the most beautiful garden.

Also she gave me some Snap Dragons that are growing like mad and looking so beautiful.

Last night we had a storm advisory out so I made sure that I tucked the flowers in the shelter of the house.

Some years I have carried them up to the top landing and placed in them the garage.

Some of the pots are a bit heavy for moving up the stairs to the garage.

These are some of the flowers that I have planted since I moved into my own house.

Beautiful roses,
Not long away,
My gift to you,
Happy Easter …..

COUNTDOWN: 60 Days to 60

Today is Friday June 23, 2017 and it is the 48 day until my 60th Birthday.

The top ….

11.  Flowers …. wherever and whenever

10.  Fragrance of my Gran’s flower gardens (memory)

9.  Trips to Jasper 2009 and to Montreal 2007 with my daughter

8.  Looking at old photographs with my sister and brothers ….. remembering when we were younger.

7.  Reading cards and letters from loved ones no longer with us.

6. Business trip to New York City in 1994 which included a week long course held at the old SING SING Prison and followed by the most glorious but scary visit to the World Trade Centre, Broadway Musical, some     sightseeing and shopping.  The Big Apple was so much more than I could ever have imagine.  Some day I would like to go there with my daughter.  Definitely bucket list to return to NYC.

5. Sea Shell Broach that my Grandparents brought me back from their trip to Hawaii, I think I was about 10 (still have it).  One of  my most prized possessions and it fits in the palm of my hand.

4.  The people in my life: my family, of course, and all my beloved friends from a lifetime.  They are the best.  D, V, M, D, L, G, S, H, I, K, M, R, B, M,  and I cannot list them all but they are in my heart each and every minute of my day.

3. My daughter’s wedding and my new son-in-law … sharing that day with her/with them was one of the best days of my life.

2. Adoption of  Alvin which was by accident as would not have happened without my kids saying I should adopt a doggie.  He is the wind beneath my sails.

1. Birth of my daughter, Amanda.  She has been and continues to be the star shining brightly in my sky.  I have always been so proud of her from the time she was a wee girl to now as a grown woman.  She is simply the most caring, kind and compassionate woman I know and I learn from her daily. She is a great role model (even for her Momma).  Always my daughter and best friend.

I could go on and on with this list.  The more I wrote the more I engaged my thoughts and memories.  Really despite a few hiccups along the way I have had and continue to have an amazing life.

The top 60 of my favourite things …… just the beginning.  I hope that I did not forget something important.  Daughter check, Son-in-law check, Sister, Brothers, Family, Friends. …..

I guess that I still have 48 or so days left to jot down some things on the Countdown to 60.

Always, Carol
