2021

Good Morning ALL! How are you on this bright and sunny Monday morning? I hope that it is bright and sunny where you are. Alvin and I are doing well. We had a fantastic weekend despite Mother Nature’s spring snowstorm. As I mentioned before I got to use my brand new Bissell Crosswave. Yesterday I submitted a tea order and baked a banana loaf / bread. Did some cleaning and put away the laundry that was air drying from Saturday. I even did some shovelling and I enjoyed the day. Here we are again at Monday morning. Most of the snow has now melted. The sidewalks are clear. Front lawn still sporting a white blanket.

I wanted to share a daily affirmation that I came across on Facebook. It has become my new mantra.

Daily Affirmation – stand in front of the mirror and look at yourself and repeat daily

I am healthy. I am strong. I am powerful. I am happy.

I am grateful. I am wealthy. I am loved.

I am appreciated. I am lucky. I am prosperous.

I am divine. I am confident. I am proud. I am blessed.

I am beautiful. I love the person that I am.

Stating a daily affirmation is good for us to do.

It is surprising how quickly you begin to see a difference in your being.

Have a wonderful day.

Continuing to live with kindness, respect, compassion and patience.

Always, Love Carol & Alvin

Second Half of the NEW YEAR.

Good Morning,

Today is Thursday the 13th day of August, 2020.

Almost half way through August now and fall/autumn is fast approaching.

In some areas of the country the leaves are already beginning to change colour.

The grass in places is beginning to turn yellow/brown.

The grass and trees are still pretty green here in Edmonton due to the rain.

The air is cool.

The mad heat of the summer was short lived – only being about ten days this year.

We had a great many rainy days but have been blessed to have sunshine.

The weather during my vacation has been very nice with most of the hot days falling during this time.

Ah, summer.

Ode to Summer.

Short and oh so sweet.

I will say that fall is my favourite season …. I do love the freshness of spring and the smell.

Now that being said …. when I was growing up on the farm … back in 04 (just kidding) ….

There really was a fresh smell to spring.

A scent to the snow melting …. we did not know about snow mold back on the farm.

The crocuses covered pastures with a purple blanket.

Snow melted over a few weeks time.

I do remember once, when I young that we still had some dirty snow on the northside of our house in July.

That was crazy.

Back to modern times.

So this is Thursday, then Friday and the weekend and Monday is back to work.

For the most part the time has gone by at a reasonable pace until today and now it seems like work is right around the corner.

Back to getting up earlier.

Thankfully not as early as back in March when I had to leave the house at 6:40 or so or earlier if I was catching the bus.

I am grateful that the decision was made for us to remain working from home until at least January 2021.

Perhaps our leadership team will find that working from home just works better for staff.

I do love being at home.

No commute.

Time for extra walks.

Being with Alvin …. No. 1 reason for loving working from home.

Yesterday we had so many visits.

In the afternoon, Teddy, his sister Kobi and Mom came for a visit.

First visit from them in months although Teddy did spend some time here a few weeks ago.

After supper we went for our second walk of the day.

It was so nice outside.

We were almost past Pauline’s house, the friend with the glorious garden, when we heard her call out to us.

Alvin enjoyed running and sniffing about her yard and I enjoyed checking out the flowers and chatting with our friend.

Her flowers are still so beautiful.

A young lady named Jenna and her small dog named Ellie stopped by.

Pauline introduced me and Alvin to them – they had met while walking about a month ago.

My friend had been out walking with her grand pup George when they met.

I love meeting new people.

We had a nice long visit before returning home and not empty handed, I might add.

Pauline gave me some succulents to plant in my back garden.

I did not have time to plant them last night as we found Humphrey and his Mom on the front lawn visiting other folks from the neighbourhood.

Alex, Janet and their yellow labs “Eddy” and “Bruno.”

Alvin got a little freaked out as they saw me and pulled on their leashes to come and see us.

We had a nice visit on the front lawn.

I am so grateful that we have such lovely people in our neighbourhood.

By the time we got into the house it was 8:30 p.m. and we had left the house at 6:30 p.m.

A nice couple of hours outside enjoying the fresh air.

Well it is time to hit the shower as it has been a couple of days.

My hair looks like it needs to be washed.

The sky is now overcast and after the shower, I want to get those succulents into the ground as soon as possible.

They are resting in some water at this time.

I hope that you are enjoying August 13th, 2020.

Another friend celebrates a birthday today.

So many August birthdays.

Happy Birthday Caroline.

Alvin is standing in the doorway and staring at me.

Now he is stretching.

He is good at stretching, I could learn a lesson from the boy.

Well I think after my shower I will put on long pants.

Other than next Monday the weather forecast is for high teens and low 20’s for the next couple of weeks.

Last night it got down to plus 8 degrees celsius.

Living life with kindness and respect.

We all have our differences, our opinions and similarities.

No one human being is exactly the same.

That being said “we have to be better at living with each other.”

We should all be striving for the same thing.

Peace, respect and kindness and compassion for all human beings, for all living beings and for the environment.

When we notice disrespect, violence and non compassionate actions we need to speak out and change this.

No one person whether adult or child should have to live in fear or violation.

No animal should be chained up.

Cruelty and violence should be two words that are not in our vocabulary.

We need to be better.

We have to be better.

If we look back historically at the different centuries …. we are no better now.

The only different now is technology.

My hope that during my lifetime we humans learn to peaceful, respectful and compassionate.

I/We shall remain,

As Always, Carol & Alvin

It is a NEW YEAR.

Happy Monday Morning Everyone.

No colourful sunrise as yet but am hopeful that we shall see some sunshine today.

More snow yesterday and overnight.

Yesterday I snapped a couple of closeups of Mr. Alvin.

Is he not the cutest boy?

He has such a cute innocent face.

His eyes …. I guess only one is visible…

When I am eating something and he comes up close with his face and turns on the cuteness …. those brown eyes can melt you into a puddle.

A Story of Six Bunnies

Over the past few days I have become enthralled with the bunnies that gather in the nighttime on our front lawn.

Okay, on the front snow covered lawn area.

Last night as I started to turn off the lights in the house before we went upstairs to bed, I noticed five rabbits out front of our house.

One came bounding over to join them.

We watched the bunnies as they munched away on the food that my neighbour so graciously has left for them.

It has been a hard winter for these little ones with all this snow.

At one point in the second photo, I saw two of the rabbits leaving the group to the other side of the street.

They stopped along the side where there was an abundance of soft fresh snow (not packed down by traffic).

One of the bunnies laid down and rolled around in the snow.

Well yes he/she certainly did roll.

Then jumped up while the other bunny watched.

I giggled as I watched the playfulness of the bunny.

The little one did this a few times before continuing to the other side of the road.

I figured perhaps I could grab some better photos so we raced upstairs and I took the photo on the left.

The one on the right captures the two bunnies, the one on the left was the one playing in the snow.

This morning from our bedroom window.

Appears to have been a party happening in our front yard (my neighbour and ours together).

The tracks filled the front yard or at least most of it.

There are tracks from every direction.

There was lots of good food and good company.

I should have put out some liquid refreshment.

Well that is what was happening in our neck of the woods as Al Roker would say.

I am an Al Roker fan (Today Show).

Well the time is passing and is almost time to start working.

In addition to watching the bunnies yesterday I made another banana cranberry orange with coffee spice load and a massive pot of the best chili ever.

I am so proud of both.

Good eatings ahead.

Time for caffeine …..

Have an awesome day.

It is the small things in life that mean the most.

A snuggle with Alvin.

Video chat with my daughter.

Text from my sister.

Fresh made banana loaf.

Smell of chili bubbling away on the stove.

A bunny rolling in the fresh snow.

Fresh perked cup of coffee.

Time to go.

As Always, I/We

Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day ……

Good Morning and Welcome to Thursday the 4th day of August, 2016.

Overcast but it looks like the sun is trying to burst through …. I hope so.

It has rained overnight as the deck is wet.

I did not hear it.

There be puppies coming to our house in a few minutes.

Elton and Casey are coming to spend the day with me and Alvin.

It will be great for Alvin to have some company and I love spending time with all the boys.

Hard to believe that it is Thursday …… where are my vacation days going?

Well I did accomplish a couple of things off my TO DO LIST.

Cleaned all of the bathroom fans.

Not that it is a terribly time consuming job but it is one that somehow always gets pushed to the bottom of the list.

I do have one HUGE job and that is digging up a strip of the front lawn.

Not especially looking forward to that but it will be fun to get my hands dirty.

I guess I will start that tomorrow as it would be nice to have it done before the end of the weekend and I am not sure how long it is going to take me.

Alvin is curled up on the end of our bed – that is his spot to wait for me when I am having a shower.

It is funny how he always is wherever I am when at home.

If I go outside he wants outside.

He makes me feel special.

Our four-legged friends have a way of doing that …..

Well just enough time to have breakfast before our company arrives.

As Elton cannot have banana anymore I like to make sure that we have breakfast before he arrives.

I hope that you have an awesome Thursday.

If you have a four-legged friend – keep them close.

Treat them with love, kindness and respect.

Somedays, no most days they are better than we are at being kind and compassionate and loving.

We can definitely learn from them.

Special Hello to: all my four-legged friends out there … thank you.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day…..

Good Morning and Welcome to Saturday the 18th of April, 2015.

The sun is shining and the temperature is mild and the wind is BLOWING.

We have had quite the breezes the past few days.

Well this is our first weekend with no house guests.

The second weekend where I do not go to work at the store.

It feels strange on both counts.

Alvin and I are settling in ….. it is very quiet.

I can hear the echoes of his footsteps, and my voice throughout the house.

Another chapter closed and another opened.

Yesterday I did laundry and some moving things back into my bedroom and regular cleaning.

I had coffee with my friend “G” and that was nice to do on a Friday afternoon.

Alvin and I enjoyed a walk ….. it was strange without my daughter and the pups along.

We got out and back just before it started to rain….perfect timing.

We slept in …. just lying there …… mind drifting off ….. to places ….. to people.

Today my daughter was coming back for one last load of odds and ends.

I found a few things that have to go as well.

There are always those items that miss the boxes.

So today, to do:

1.  make a list of everything that I have to do over the next month

2.  check on Aussie the cat

3.  perhaps rake the front lawn (or wait until next Saturday when the ground has thawed more)

4.  make fudge for my friend’s little guy who is celebrating a birthday, and happens to love my fudge …..

5.  go for a long walk with Mr. Alvin

6.  RELAX

One more day until back to work and oh has it been wonderful being at home.

Well that kitty is waiting …. she needs some company.

Almost forgot about breakfast.

COFFEE …..

Well here we go …… it will be easier by next weekend when the schedule is in place.

I do love my house when it is filled with voices, barks, love and laughter.

I do love my house when it is filled with us.

They will come back for visits and maybe even sleepovers ….. at least for sure the puppies, will.

Happy Saturday.

Here we go.

Life carries on.

I am so blessed.

With the wind in my sails I will go.

With Alvin at my side I will never be alone.

Happy Saturday.

Special Hello to: my family and friends …. time to be making some phone calls……and video chats…. SKYPE…anyone.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day…..

Good Morning and Welcome to Sunday the 4th day of May, 2014.

Well here is bright outside but not because of sunshine but because it is snowing.

Can you believe it?

May 4th and SNOW.

Oh well, on the “bright” side it will not be here for long.

Yesterday morning I was raking the front lawn and last night it snowed.

Kind of funny.

I hope that you are having a wonderful weekend.

I am having a fantastic weekend.

I accomplished lots yesterday and today I work at the store.

So good on all counts.

I was thinking all morning all very blessed I am.

I live in my own home.

I have a wonderful friend and companion in my dog “Alvin.”

I have an amazing daughter and son-in-law and grand-puppies.

I am part of a great family and have awesome friends.

I meet new people on a regular basis.

I have perfect hearing and sight so I can listen to music and see the snow fall and the sun shine.

I have so much to be thankful for ……

I hope that you like the changes to my “blog” ….. my daughter thought I needed some “updating.”

I am so lucky ……

Have a great Sunday.

Special Hello to: all those fantastic people who read my blog …. thank you.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day…..

Good Thursday morning and welcome to August 30th, 2012….

It is a lovely morning here in Edmonton and the sun is beginning to rise in the east.

Tomorrow is my day off from my office job ( I work an extra long day to have this, and I am so grateful to have this option).

Tomorrow I am hosting a garage sale ….. I was thinking of having it on the front lawn but now I am thinking that perhaps I should just keep it in the garage.

After all, most of the items that I am selling are already in there …. would save moving things through the house or through the back gate.

Slight dilemma …. what to do.  I did mention on Kijiji that I might have it in the garage if the weather did  not hold.

I hope that you are having a great day.

As I was in my office and kitchen looking for some items last night ….. I had a huge revelation, and that was I still have lots of things to go through to sell, give or toss.

One thing at a time ….. perhaps I will have time tonight …

Did you have a garage or lawn or patio sale this summer?

Do you hang onto items for various reasons?

Is it hard to let them go?

Yes, yes, and yes for me.

I think that everyone should watch the TLC show “HOARDERS BURIED ALIVE” and that would light a fire under us to get rid of things that we truly do not require.

If you looked around my home for example I would say that it is not even remotely close to being over stocked but at the same time I want to keep only those items that I require to live my life and a few things that remind me of my life.

Even though we think that things make us happy …… really they don’t …… maybe for a short time but it is people and life’s experiences that make us happy and enrich us.

So on this Thursday, I would ask you to take stock of what you have ….. ask yourself the following questions:

1.  Is my home so crowded with things that I cannot live the best life for me?

2.  Does my home bring me joy?  Like when you walk in the door are you “grateful to be home” or does it scare you?

3.  Do I really need 50 boxes stacked in the corner of the basement?

4.  Do I really need all of my Grandmother’s china or example or perhaps I could share some items with family and friends?

5.  Do I really need to keep all of the cards that I have received over the past 40 years?

6..  Go through each room and ask yourself, Does this help me live my life?  Have I used it in the last year? (except Christmas).

I think that you get the idea ….. honestly you will feel light as a feather once you have your home just filled with the items that you love and require to live your best life.

Oh, yeah …. keep those items that you honestly love ……. we all have them.

Gotta run.

Have an awesome day.

Special Hello: to all those having garage sales ..  good luck.

Always, Carol and Alvin
