Living … One day at a time

Hello, good morning ALL,

Well the sun was supposed to be shining today or at least that is what I thought that the weather person reported.

Not so at the moment.

It is nice but a bit crisp.

Hopefully it will stay dry for all of those garage sales out there.

After work last night after Alvin had his supper and I got changed into my after work clothes.

We went for a walk.

Noticed one of our neighbours was having a garage sale so we stopped by …

Picked up a few wonderfully gently used finds …. so excited.

Alvin enjoyed the garage sale until strangers started to show up and then he was ready to leave.

His friend RIO was in the house because poor little guy had just had some teeth pulled.

Then we were on our walk as we neared our friend P’s house he started to pull, I didn’t initially think anything about it but quickly realized as I raised my head that she was outside working in her beautiful garden preparing for winter.

After a quick chat and some treats for Alvin (milk bones), the first he has had in about two weeks (since he has been under the weather).

I tell you he really gobbled them up …

P decided to come with us for a walk so that we could catch up so she yelled to her husband that she was going for a walk with us.

He yelled down from the upper balcony “Hey Carol left a message that they were going for a walk and to call her.”

Talking to her as if Alvin and I were not there.

We both started to laugh and played along.

He was just teasing us.

Then we were on our way …..

Enjoying the beautiful evening.

Picture perfect.

On our way home we stopped by the garage sale where I picked out another item or two.

I decided as I could not handle Alvin and my treasures that I would take him home and come back.

Only a short walk.

So that is what I did.

Dropped Alvin off and back to the garage sale.

Where I scanned for more treasures and found one more items bringing the total to “7.”

I picked up some great finds.

On my way home, I saw Humphrey’s Mom in the middle of the sidewalk …. waving as she saw me.

She was talking but I could not hear her initially as I was just a tad too far away.

Once I got a bit closer, she realized that I had my arms full so she came down the sidewalk toward me to help me carry things home.

On the way home, she asked if Humphrey could spend the evening with us and I said “Of course, yes.”

The photos below are the boys and I just kicking back and enjoying the evening.

Perhaps Alvin might have been a bit miffed that Humphrey was stretched out on his favorite side of the sofa.

Stretched out he was.

I also have been recording the new television show “THE KELLY CLARKSHOW SHOW”

One of her guests was someone that I did not know about “Chance the Rapper.”

OMG, I am truly infatuated with this young guy.

Something about him ….

Seems like a wonderful funny, loving, caring, intelligent human being.

WOW, so cute to boot.

How could you not like that face?

The house phone just rang downstairs and by the time that I got to it …. went to voicemail but I saw it was Teddy’s Mom.

Grabbed the phone and checked her number and dialed.

Keeping ringing and then I heard my cell ringing upstairs in the office.

So was able to pick it up.

Teddy will be spending the day with us.

YAY.

Friday the 13th and a Full MOON.

Taken from my deck.

One of these years I will be able to get a photo of how it actually appears to the naked eye?

Well time to fly, Teddy is here.

I have to get dressed.

The coffee is ready.

There is laundry to do.

Life goes on.

Happy Saturday.

Kindness and Respect are catching on ….. each day I notice more random acts of kindness done with respect.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Sunday the 31st day of August, 2016.

It is a beautiful morning and already quite warm but thankfully there is a breeze.

Last day of July 2016.

Crazy how fast the summer seems to go.

We just arrived back from a walk and while we were out bumped into our neighbours “I” and “N” out for a stroll.

Of course, we stopped and chatted for a bit before continuing on our way home.

They were on their way out and we were on our way in.

The garage sale yesterday would be considered a hit.

Lots of people and we all sold a reasonable amount of things and even made some cash to boot.

This is the last sale that I will be having for a while.

I think that I have had four or five this summer.

Summer is precious so next year if I have one it will be ONE.

The clouds are rolling in to the south.

They have forecasted rain for today so I am happy that we were able to get our walk in already just in case.

You never know with the weather.

Well today will be a quiet one.

I will just do some laundry and perhaps decided what jobs need to be done over my vacation.

Once it stops raining I will mow the grass as it is so tall again.

With all the rain it just grows like mad.

Well time to go as I just got up and took Alvin for a walk without having breakfast (he ate of course).

We stayed resting on the sofa for awhile as I just was feeling lazy.

I hope that you have a wonderful last day of July 2016.

Enjoy yourself ….. maybe even go for a walk.

Happy Sunday.

Special Hello to: family and friends ….

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Saturday the 30th day of July, 2016.

Well after a sweltering day it is overcast and wet.

We had quite the storm last night ….. lots of thunder and lightning.

I took my tablet out onto the deck to get some photos of the storm but not sure what happened they did not turn out.

But I did secure some beautiful video of one of my solar lanterns that is a tear drop style and made of glass that sparkles and shines.

So it was not completely a failure or maybe that is too strong of a word and so it goes.

We are really lucky at our office and get out early on Fridays so I was home one hour earlier than normal.

After Mr. Alvin went outside and had supper I set out to give him a hair cut and bath.

Three hours later we were finished and he looks wonderful.

His front paws could use a smidge more trimmed but all in all he looks great.

Needless to say I had supper at almost 8 p.m. but that was okay.

My friend “S” and I are having another garage sale today so that we can sell all of the stuff that did not sell last weekend.

It is cooler out so perhaps that will bring people out today.

“S” and her daughter came over to bring a few things like balloons and the signs that she placed in other parts of our neighbourhood.

After they left we settled down and watched one of my favourite food shows with Guy F …. the triple “D” one …… for the life of me the title has left my memory.

Likely because I am thinking about the sale and stuff.

Anyway we went up to bed just after 10:00 and there was so much lightning and thunder that Alvin did not settle down right away and then to add to it we could hear another dog, clearly outside and

clearly scared and distressed.

We listened for awhile as I tried to ascertain where the barking was coming from and it was not until I came into my office and opened the window that I found it was coming from that side of the house.

The poor puppy had been barking for quite some time.

So I grabbed my coat with a hood as it was raining by this time, key and shoes (still in my nightgown) and went onto the deck and opened the garage door.

I quickly figured out where the dog was and went to investigate.

Within a block of my house is this poor doggie …. outside in a built wire cage.

I managed to see just a bit of the dog through a space in the fence and he was pacing back and forth.

I ran back to the garage and to my house and called 9-1-1.

First thing I said was this is not a life and death situation and explained what was happened.

The operator was a sweetheart making me a bit relaxed and advising that she would transfer me to the non-emergency police line.

I explained the situation to the male operator on the other end.

My options were limited but he could hear the dog when I held the phone to my window.

We talked for quite some time and then suddenly there was human movement.

Someone was in the garage and the garage door opened and someone came out.

The dog stopped barking.

We listened for a few more minutes and no barking.

The lights went off and I could see someone going into the house via the back door.

The dog did not bark anymore.

I asked for the phone number of the non-emergency line – just in case.

Then hung up and we went back to bed.

Alvin, bless his heart did not bark much as I guess he could sense that I was anxious.

It breaks my heart to see people not taking proper care of animals in their care.

I may not be perfect but he will never be left out in the cold or in a severe lightning storm in a metal cage.

People truly are stupid …. how could you do that.

Well I need to wrap this up as it is time to get going and get the signs up for the garage sale.

Part 2, wish us luck.

I hope that you have an awesome Saturday.

Remember that dogs are living creatures and please respect them.

Special Hello to: all those people who love and respect animals in their care and all life whether two-legged, four-legged, winged or scaled.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Sunday the 24th day of July, 2016.

WOW, how can it be?

The 24th day of July?

Crazy, hey.

Well on this bright and sunny Sunday morning I am enjoying the cool breeze that is wonderfully drifting into my windows.

The office feels delightful ….. cool and warm all at once.

My neighbour and I held a joint garage sale yesterday.

It was not successful by any means regarding amounts of things sold or money made but we had fun.

We ran it from 9 a.m. and closed it down at 2:20 p.m. – we met some nice folks.

Alvin stayed out with we girls all day.

It was not hot by any means and he had water and the house close by.

But he enjoyed with me and the girls.

One family from South America ….. they have only lived in Canada for two years.

The family’s favourite thing to do in our Canadian summers is to go camping.

They go to Banff because it is so beautiful.

After the garage sale the girls went home and I tidied up and had a bit to eat before we went out to run a few errands as I needed a few items for my TEA TASTING.

This afternoon I am hosting a TEA TASTING in my home.

We are going to have four different tea blends.

They are made into COLD / ICED tea beverages.

One with water and lemon, another with ginger ale, one with wine and the other with plain water.

I am not a wine drinker or a drinker period but my neighbour had this wine on Friday with the Citrus Mint Sangria and I knew it would be a good fit.

Will have to check the label and let you know.  It is a popular summer wine around here.

How do these tea blends sound:  Peaches & Cream which is a white tea; Jenna Cherry Jubilee, Citrus Mint Sangria and Summer Berry Sangria which are all fruit teas.

They are going to be yummy.

Will report more about the tea tasting with more details and some photos later on.

Mr. Alvin will be so happy to see his sister as she will be attending.

My leader is coming and he loves her.

We are hoping for a good turnout.

You never know …..

Some say yes.

Some say no.

Some say maybe.

Some say no and come anyway.

That’s okay.

Well I suppose I should hustle as I have a few things to do before the TEA TASTING begins.

There are a few hours but time always has a way of racing by …..

I hope that you are having a great summer weekend.

Looks like today is going to be warm.

Yesterday was a bit cool but refreshing after Friday’s 27 and higher with the humidity.

Take care.

Special Hello to: all my family and friends near and far.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Oh no, I hear some sirens blaring in the near distance.

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Saturday the 23rd day of July, 2016.

What a whirlwind of activities over the past few days.

Company arriving …. company leaving…… sad for that.

Pancake breakfast at work …… rest of the day off …… errands ran.

Attended Open House for one of my colleagues and neighbours for Steeped Tea ….. mowed grass afterward ….. too  hot to walk.

Garage sale today ….. Tea Tasting tomorrow.

The past few days seem like a blur and then it will be Sunday evening and I will be preparing once again for the work week.

Do you have times like these?

So much to enjoy and the time just zips by.

I so, we so enjoyed the visit of our friend from back home.

We had such a great time.

We found out that we have much more in common that we even knew.

Funny how that works.

I am grateful for that time as is Alvin.

He really took a shine to her.

It is true that he really likes the girls but he has some relationships that are different and it is apparent.

Not the same as mine or his sisters.

I love it.

Life is full of things that are crystal clear and full of things that are mysterious and unknown.

Well just in the last minutes here before my neighbour and her daughter arrive for the garage sale.

She just called and they will be here in the next bit as they were up a bit on the late side.

Went for a late walk and such.

Anyhoo …. time to get this show / ship on the road / on the sea and go.

I think I will take Alvin with me to put up the sign and then he will have a walk.

Things will be fine …..

As there will be two adults …. if something has to be done last minute one of us can always be in the garage to await potential customers.

Wish us luck …. we just would love to sell everything …… then we are done and things.

Good things as usual.   No junk.

Have an awesome Saturday.

Back tomorrow.

Special Hello to: my sister, yes I am very lucky for sure.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Friday the 22nd day of July, 2016.

It is sightly cool but super refreshing with a low hanging cloud bank to the south and sun coming up bright and boldly to the east.

There are birds chirping and cars humming down the highway …. for some reason this morning the sound is magnified.

We were up extra early as my friend left this morning for home.

The house seems empty without our company.

Oh, yesterday she whipped up a batch of vegetable soup before she went to visit her brother for the day.

How many people in between things just whip up a batch of soup?

I am so blessed.

One of my neighbours is away so she asked me to take all of the fresh produce home and use up.

So my friend knew I was concerned about some items spoiling before I could use it all.

So she made me a big pot of soup.

The house smelled incredible when I got home from work yesterday.

I shall miss her and both Alvin and myself will treasure this visit always.

I love having company.

Sister, do you hear me!!!

Today the latest in the Star Trek series of movies is coming out.

I would love to go and see it but the theatre will be crazy busy so I will wait and hopefully I can see it at the theatre before it leaves.

That movie is always great to see on the BIG screen.

Tonight one of my neighbours is having an Open House for her Steeped Tea business.

She signed up under me so to speak.

So I want to support her and will go over for her Open House.

We have a pancake breakfast at work today and I will be leaving to attend it shortly.

Once the breakfast is over we can go to the parade for our city’s exhibition/fair or just go home.

I am electing to go home as I have a list a million yards long to get started with …..

There be tea tasting and garage sale and laundry in my future.

Mostly all fun.

Well time to get this show on the road.

I am so grateful that I was able to host my friend’s visit to Edmonton.

Happy Friday everyone.

Special Hello to: all those people visiting family and friends, thank you.

Thought for the day ……

Good Morning and Welcome to Thursday the 21st day of July, 2016.

What a glorious past couple of days and I am sad that my friend will be going home tomorrow.

We have one more evening and early morning together.

Alvin has grown quite attached, and even Mr. Elton was happy to have a new friend.

You know him he sometimes takes a while to warm up to people.

Last night when I arrived home from work in the rain I opened the door to find my friend standing in the kitchen starting to make buns.

She had arrived to the house a few minutes before that and was making the preparations for the buns.

So lucky me now has fresh cinnamon buns, cheese buns and regular buns.

How grateful, and happy for those treats am I.

It was another fast paced evening between the kids coming for Elton, watching over my “Cinder” (neighbour’s pet), making supper, we walked, the buns, of course, visiting, clean-up and visiting.

The minutes just zipped by.

It was another 11:30 night but I am so happy to have had this opportunity.

She is such a great person and friend.

Alvin is so smitten with her ….. he lays beside her in the protection pose.

So cute.

He is wondering this morning as she is still in bed as there is no reason for her to be up and out at this crazy early time.

The air is so humid.

So humid in fact that by the time I leave the house my eyebrows have come off.

Okay shall I explain.

Everyone knows as you get older you hair lightens and finally turns white or grey.

Well mine have lightened a LOT.

So I have befriended an eyebrow pencil.

I have been using them for years just to add a bit more depth and colour.

Well now I really need that good old pencil.

So I had better check them out as I fear they have melted in this humidity.

Well almost time to pack my lunch into my back pack and head out to work.

Almost the end.

This weekend marks the beginning of K-Days (big city fair).

We are having a pancake breakfast at work tomorrow morning so that will be nice.

Short day as we close so that everyone can take in the parade.

Busy weekend ahead with Open House for Steeped Tea at my neighbours, garage sale in my garage for a friend, my Tea Tasting on Sunday.

Time to go here.

I hope that you have an amazing Thursday.

Special Hello to: all those people visiting friends and family – we thank you.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Sunday the 26th day of June, 2016.

Wow only a handful of days left in the first half of the 2016.

Crazy hey.

It  has been a crazy first six months.

My neighbour since I moved to Edmonton in 2009 has moved out and shortly new ones will move in.

She married a couple of years after I moved in and now they have built a big new house.

I will miss her as she has become a good friend.

I know that we will see each other but it will not be the same.

We used to decorate our side of the duplex the same for the holidays and always received compliments and views from people passing by.

Well the garage sale was a huge success and we sold the majority of what we have for sale.

Still a few items so will post them on Kijiji or our Neighbourhood FB page.

Alvin enjoyed his visit at his sister’s house.

They are also sitting for a friend so he had “Betty Ann” to play with and a couple of times she got a bit carried away but they managed.

Alvin is pretty easy going but is a DIVA when it comes to having his ears cleaned and paws trimmed.

Oh, he is sporting a new hair cut and is oh so handsome.

Thank you to his sister and brother-in-law for giving him such a good hair cut.

Yesterday at the garage sale I even met several different people from Saskatchewan.

One lady was from by Swift Current I believe and knew one of the girls I knew from SGI (Saskatchewan Government Insurance).

It was a FUN FUN day.

Started raining and muggy and EARLY (some folks were at the garage sale down the street that started at 8:00 and had seen mine posted on line; they  caught me as I was going out the front door to go and post the sign by the park down the street).

My friend “S” and her daughter “M” always come and sit with and even buy stuff ….. they came once again.

I always appreciate her support.

Well time to get this show on the road.

I hope that you have an awesome day.

Special Hello to: my friend “M” – nice to see your sister yesterday when she came to pick up the tea.  Thanks Mo for your order.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Saturday the 25th day of June, 2016.

Well it is not the bright and sunny morning that I and my fellow garage sale sellers were hoping for but that is okay.

The skies are grey and it is wet out there.

Still raining.

Hopefully the rain will not hurt our sales today.

It seems strange again this morning to have such quiet, stillness in the house.

Not saying that Mr. Alvin is loud because that truly is not the case.

He has his moments but we all do.

Must say that it is difficult to get motivated when it is raining outside.

I was going to get up at 7:00.

7:00 turned into 7:30 and finally at 7:40 I dragged my body out of bed.

Okay enough of that and time to get energized and get to the matter at hand.

THE GARAGE SALE.

We, I am going to have a great time.

Meeting lots of people.

They are going to buy all of our stuff.

Still a multi family sale…..

I hope that whatever you are doing on this day that you are energized and ready to get to it.

Have a wonderful day.

Special Hello to: my daughter who is hosting her little brother Alvin for a three day two night sleepover.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Thursday the 23rd day of June, 2016.

Another thunder/lightning/rain storm last night.

The grass, flowers and trees are looking so good.

The best in a long time.

We certainly needed the moisture.

Sounds like more rain in our future.

Alvin did fine last night as the storm was not quite so fierce as the previous night.

My tea order arrived and I got it sorted and packed.

We had a quiet lovely evening.

I fooled around on my tablet trying to get the photos for my upcoming garage sale posted on KIJIJI and on a local FB page.

Was successful for the most part except for the FB page I ended up closed it off as it did not display the way that it looked.

So will try again tonight as least I know what to do.

My kids are on their way here as Mr. Elton will be spending the day with Alvin so that will be nice.

I had better once again get this show on the road.

I hope that you have an awesome Thursday.

Special Hello to: my friend “M” – tea has arrived.

Always, Carol and Alvin
