Thought for the day…..

Good Morning and Welcome to Sunday the 27th day of April, 2014.

WOW, April 27th, 2014.

Isn’t that cool?

What are you doing on this special day?

I am going to work at the store.

I love working there.

Only wished that I could take Alvin with me …..

He would have fun with all of the girls.

He loves the girls more than the guys.

Not sure why.

But he definitely is a ladies’ man.

The sky is overcast here in Edmonton and overnight we had a skiff of snow that was still on the snow when we first got up this morning.

Now it has disappeared into the ground …..

Funny to have rain yesterday and into the night.

It is likely the last snowfall for now.

That would be good.

Rain …. it is time for a few showers.

Oh, Mr. Alvin …… he wants to look out of the office window but alas the ottoman is by the bed.

Our bedroom windows are low enough that he can look out of the window but not in the office.

He does love to look out of the window.

I guess that is a “dog thing.”

But nevertheless he does enjoy partaking in the view of the neighbourhood.

He keeps an eye on things everyday.

We could learn a thing from Mr. Alvin and others ….

Take the time to sit down, relax and look out of the window.

See what is going on in your neighbourhood.

You might be surprised.

So, on this lovely Sunday ….I hope that you are enjoying yourself.

If you are working enjoy.

If you are at home relaxing enjoy.

Special Hello to: my sister …. talk to you soon.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day…..

OMG, I just had the most amazing couple of hours.

The neighbour girls six year old “Lea” and four year old “Mahee-Lee” came over for a visit.

Of course, Lea called first.

The other day when Lea was over for a visit (Christmas vacation) she had spotted a fairy inspired / decorated “bank” that Amanda had given me as a gift several years ago.

She really liked it, and asked if she could have it as she did not have one….. I told her that I would have to think about it…… I did….. in fact, I mentioned it to Amanda.

Amanda told me …… if she really loved it ….. why not?  you have so many things.  So today when the girls were here …. I announced to Miss Lea that she could have the fairy bank.

She was so excited.  You all know as well as me that if you give something to one child – you MUST give something to the other.  So I found this little porcelain figurine of a small girl with a banner across her dress for the month of “AUGUST”.  Well as both my birthday and Mahee-Lee’s are in the month of August.  I figured that this was the perfect gift.  Everyone was elated.

Also Lea had wanted some candy canes…. you see she was over on New Year’s Day and helped me take down the tree.  She spotted a small candy cane and wanted it.  I remembered that it was old, and told her that I had some other ones.  When I could locate them she could have them….

Anyway back to earlier this afternoon.  Lea spotted a “microphone” that I had in my office and took it downstairs.  Well the two of them played with it for a good while.  Both taking turns singing and entertaining me and Alvin.  Alvin didn’t quite know what to think, I am sure of that.  But we had a blast.  Mahee-Lee wanted Lea to introduce her as Miley Cyrus. Quite cute.  I also found out that Mahee-Lee is quite the acrobat – doing somersaults and cartwheels.

I laughed all afternoon.  I love when the girls come to visit.  Alvin goes crazy when they come to the door.  He always runs back and forth to the living room when I make the announcement that the girls are coming over.  He is so smart.

Well, this day the thought is …… if a child happens to like one of your small treasures …… let it go.  After all how many ornaments does a “fifty something” gal need?  Really.

The girls were both happy.  They also got a bag of the remaining Halloween treats plus the candy canes that I located.

A grand time was had by all……. even Alvin had fun……

Helpful Hints for the Ladies

Hi, I was watching one of the morning programs and learned some interesting facts.  I would love to share them with you ladies out there in BLOG LAND:

– If you have some powder eye shadow that you have had for a bit (don’t keep for more than one year), it can be sanitized by taking a cotton swab and wetting it with rubbing alcohol. Leave the compact open and  place it inside a ziploc bag for a few hours. I tried it and it does refresh the eye shadow.  But at the end of the day do not keep your eye make-up for more than a year.  If it starts to give off an odour it is definitely time to dispose of that “metallic blue” shadow (LOL).  I have a weakness for make-up.  My bathroom drawers were jammed full.  Just last week, I decided that because I  had better do some make-up house-cleaning.  So now the spare bathroom does not house the make-up that I do not use on a daily basis.  All that I use is housed in a couple of trays in my personal bathroom.   YAY.

-I did not know this one.  Lipstick should not smell.  If it starts to give off a crayon-like odour it is time to toss it.

-Try not to purchase more than what you really need and use. ( this was tough for me but I have learned a valuable lesson)

Much easier on the pocketbook, too.

– Perfumes should be kept out of the light and direct heat ( I know we girls all want to display those pretty bottles)

I will continue to share any helpful hints that I come across in my “travels”……
