Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Monday the 22nd day of May, 2017.

The sky is partially overcast but it remains somewhat sunny.

I do not think there was rain the forecast but then again I have not check the past couple of days.

We have had a mixed weekend with emotions running from happy to extremely sad.

I was pleased to get some big jobs done over the weekend and to attend a barbecue late yesterday afternoon at one of my friend & neighbour’s.

Yesterday earlier in the afternoon there was an unexpected knock at the door.

Both Alvin and I went to the door to find our friend and neighbour “S” from down the street.

She was clearly upset ….. tear stained eyes.

She wanted to tell me that the afternoon before being Saturday about 3:00 p.m. – their beloved Lola was killed by an unleashed dog – a Pit Bull.

I felt as though someone had punched me at the knees.

Lola was a five year old Chihuahua.

My friend had been out walking at the park where we always walk.

We always obey the rules and have our pups on leashes.

It is seconds near their home and we pass by their house at the outer rim of the park.

She had been walking with their 12 year old son and their two doggies Lola and Presley.

Presley received serious injuries and under went surgery that day.

He was doing okay and was resting at home.

Not comfortably as she said he was clearly traumatized by this event.

Not to imagine what their son is going through.

The owner of the Pit Bull did not even realize until my friend began to scream that anything was wrong.

He had been playing ball with friends and was clearly not paying attention to his dog.

Our park is a family park and is NOT an off leash park.

I will say I am a little concerned about walking there now.

I will stay on the sidewalks and not walk around the lakes on the grass.

I will always take something in my hand that I could throw …. Alvin’s water bottle.

My heart goes out to this family …… Lola was their baby girl and now she is gone.

I do not know why some people feel like they can disobey the rules.

They are there for a reason.

We do not even know if he lives in the neighbourhood.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family on this day and all the days to follow.

Our four-legged babies are our family.

When they leave us it feels the same as losing a two-legged family member.

They are just as important.

So I will be on guard on our walks and pay close attention.

I usually do but now there will be no drifting off or zoning out for even a second.

Please make sure that if you have a large dog and most especially a Pit Bull that you have him or her leashed when in a public place.

They may be the most gentle animal that you have ever known but one split second can change the lives of a family of a neighbourhood.

Please think twice.

Be good citizens.

Be compassionate and responsible.

Okay time to go on our walk.

Have a great day.

Today is a holiday in Canada – Victoria Day ( for long since past Queen Victoria of England ).

Special Hello to: all those folks who lost their four-legged babies … my heart goes out to you all.

Always, Carol & Alvin.

Thought for the day……

Good Morning and Welcome to Thursday the 2nd day of April, 2015.

Well that snow did eventually stick as it snowed all day long.

We now have snow covering the deck once again.

It is that heavy wet snow …. the kind that is hard to shovel.

Great for snowmen or snow people.

Once the sun stays out it will melt.

We always seem to have a snow storm at the end of March ….. beginning of April.

This is quite normal.

I am grateful for the moisture as the ground was dry.

Should help clean things as well.

Well tomorrow our office is closed for Good Friday and also on Easter Monday.

Tomorrow and Saturday will be my last two shifts at the store.

As much as I will miss all of my friends there – I am so looking forward to having a life once again.

By that I mean …. coming home every night ….. walking with Alvin on a regular basis …. every night.

Having the weekends at home to do whatever I wish.

Last night after work my daughter and I stopped at West Edmonton Mall.

She wanted to use the last of her gift card at a store named DeSerres ( art supplies and more ).

I ended up picking up some coloured “fineliner” pens and a mini sketch pad.

I plan on getting back into making my own cards and also doing some sketching.

We did also at the start stop at the TARGET store just to take a walk through.

There is barely anything left but we did find some make-up.

We were both appalled by the damage customers had done to what remained of the products.

Like the makeup …. packages opened ….. powders all over ….. dirty kleenex’s thrown in with the products in the bins …… just very dirty and messy.

I feel so much for the employees …. they did not deserve such disrespect.

For the most part any of the staff that I saw seemed to be putting on a brave face.

I hope that they all found employment.

We also had a nice dinner together at FRESHI’s ( my favourite place to eat ).

Followed by a trip to the SKETCHERS store (where we each bought a pair of shoes).

Quick trip to CHAPTERS but they did not have what my daughter wanted.

After a stressful day at the office it was just what the doctor ordered.

Well time to leave for work.

I hope that you have a great day.

Wherever you go and whatever you do …. please show respect for the folks around you.

Also if you happen upon our four-legged friends please be kind to them as well.

We share this planet.

Special Hello to: all those folks who read my blog …. thank you.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day…..

Good Morning and Welcome to Monday the 16th day of February, 2015.

It is an overcast, gloomy snowy morning here in Edmonton.

It is bright and sunny inside my house.

As per my daughter’s request I made pancakes for breakfast.

We enjoyed them with real maple syrup (the expensive golden liquid) and fruit.

Love pancakes ……

Followed by a hot cup of coffee.

After breakfast Alvin and I danced to Sam Smith “I’m not the Only One.”

Alvin placed his paws on my shoulder and although he seemed to hold on for dear life …. I believe deep down that he loves to dance with his Momma.

At least in my mind …..

So far “Family Day” has been great.

We are just preparing to sit down and make some jewellery.

Some new pieces for our “DEAR STELLA JEWELLERY.”

We both being creative …..

My daughter is into so many creative outlets …… photography, jewellery, artist journaling and collage …..

So exciting.

Well time to get out of the pyjama’s and into some comfy pull on pants (sweats) and a t-shirt.

YAY ….. I have the whole day off and at home.

I am so happy when I can spend the day at home with Alvin and my daughter ….. not to forget the grand-pups …….

Unfortunately my son-in-law had to work today ….. boo to the Feds …..

Have a great Family Day to everyone, and even if you do not have it as a holiday I hope that you have a day to be with your family.

Time to go and get ready to make jewellery.

Have an awesome day.

Special Hello to: all my family and friends …. Happy Family Day.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day……

Good Morning and Welcome to Monday the 24th day of March, 2014.

Temperatures warming up and I for the third day in a row I am wearing shoes outside.

I love it when you can just slip on your shoes and go.

No boots and carrying shoes.

Just slip on and go.

How wonderful.

It is amazing how much extra time and effort it takes to get dressed to leave the house in the winter time.

Anyway, I am one happy girl.

Even Mr. Alvin can go without a jacket or at least not a heavy one.

I can see the earth in most places.

Still a few banks and some ice but for the most part a few plus days and it should be gone.

Just think in a few weeks or so we should see buds on the trees and people will begin to plant some flowers.

All of the greenhouses will have their plants out ready for purchase.

I absolutely love going to the greenhouses whether it is the family owned one just outside of the city or the one at Canadian Tire …. I love to check out the flowers …. the colours …. the smells.

Oh what a fantastic time to be alive.

You can just feel the relief and the wonderment of this time of year.

Everyone big and small is ready.

Ready to go for nice long walks …

Ready for late sunsets.

Ready for dips in the lake.

Ready to go camping.

Ready to do some gardening.

Ready to clean up their yards.

Ready to get outside.

So on this first day of the week …

I hope that this finds you thinking and working on preparing for summer.

Always a good time to go through your closets and “storage containers.”

I hope that you are generous.

Do you really need five black skirts?

Have a great day.

Special Hello to: my sister who is arriving back home today from Vegas…… hope you had a great time.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day…

Good Morning and Welcome to Saturday the 19th day of October, 2013.

It is overcast with sunny patches and windy.

But we are grateful for the great fall weather.

Yesterday was gorgeous – another double digit day.

Today is my daughter and son-in-law’s fifth wedding anniversary.

WOW, time sure flies.

So I would like to take this opportunity to wish them a Happy Anniversary Day and Best Wishes for many more happy years.

Five years ago today the sun was shining it was a bit on the cool side but warmed up throughout the day.

I am going to be grand-puppy sitting in less than one hour so have lots of things to do.

I am decorating for Halloween today as well.

Brought up all of the decorations and just have to place them.

Next to Christmas this is my favourite “holiday” …..

I hope that you all have a great Saturday.

Always remember to be grateful for your many blessings.

No matter what you have you always have more than someone else.

I am reminded of my many blessings from the people that I talk to and meet throughout my days.

Take care.

Happy Saturday.

Special Hello to: all of the people who need some positive influences in their lives ….

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day….

Welcome to Tuesday, December 11th, 2012 ….. 13 sleeps till Christmas Eve ….. Santa comes on the 14th sleep…..

WOW……

Well I wrote up a few more cards last night.

On Saturday my daughter and I are going to make the traditional “sugar cookies” and some mini cheesecakes.

Closer to the big day I will make a “fruit pizza” and that will be our dessert.

Getting a bit less traditional ….

We try and cut back on the food every year but then we find we have too much but always good for leftovers.

Do you find that when you are shopping for groceries at Christmas that you purchase everything for that day or two and then have nothing for the time just before or after?

There are always leftovers for a few days but then it seems that you spent all that money and nothing in the pantry or fridge.

It always amazes me …….

I always try and be organized and some years more so than others.

This year I am doing okay.

I think Thursday night will be “wrapping gifts” ….

Each night I plan to do one item and that way I should be ready on time.

It always works out.

Well it is snowing again here in Edmonton so my ride will be early so I should go and finish getting ready.

I hope that you are all on track for whatever celebrations you have at this time of year.

Whether you are tradition or not ….. as long as you are surrounded by the folks that you love ….. you are blessed and will have a great holiday.

Take care and have an awesome day.

Special Hello: to all my “elf friends” ….. you rock.

Always, Carol and Alvin
