Thought for the day…..

Good Morning and Welcome to Thursday the 18th day of December, 2014.

How are you doing this Thursday morning?

I am doing great although I am a bit “tired.”

But tomorrow is Friday and I can sleep in a bit on Saturday.

Hard to believe that next week is Christmas.

I do think that as we get older that time seems to pass by more quickly.

I guess when we are young we only want what is ahead of us so therefore time seems to go more slowly.

But as we get older we more than likely think about and even wish for all the yesterdays.

So it makes sense, right?

Anyway kind of got sidetracked there …… now I am looking ahead to next week with some days off from both jobs so that I can refuel my engine and get back into “form.”

I do love this time of year ….. the music ….. the colours ….. the decorations …… Christmas trees ……. the feeling that is in the air.

If you had a red Santa sack with something in it …..

If you were standing in the middle of the mall ….

If people came up to see what you had….

If you said to them place your hand into Santa’s sack and asked them to say the “magic word.”

What words do you think they would most often say?

Here is a list of those words:

magic word?

ho ho ho

thank you?

Merry Christmas

Which was number one?

I am pleased to say that most people were polite and said “please” and definitely are going onto the NICE LIST this year.

Me too, Santa gave me a task (sort of) and I get to be on the NICE LIST.

Does this sound cryptic?

I was handing out coupons last night at the store and decided to liven things up …. Christmas spirit and all.

It was fun and most people laughed …. which was exactly what I was going for ……

Most of all the majority of people said “PLEASE AND THANK YOU.”

Have a great day.

Special Hello to: every single human being and life form on this planet we call EARTH.  Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day…..

Good Morning and Welcome to Friday the 3rd day of October, 2014.

Thank you so much for your comments.

It is nice to hear from each of you ……

I love hearing about the different places where you live.

Always good to learn more about one’s fellow human beings.

I believe that everyday there is opportunity to learn something.

It might be something so small that you do not even realize that you have learned something new.

Might be automatic …. something our conscious mind does not even recognizes.

Or you might learn how to drive a car ….. pilot a space craft or learn to sew.

Maybe you learned a new language …. or maybe you learned to write your name.

Isn’t life grand.

So many things.

So on this fantastic Friday let us all go out into the world and learn something new.

It can be something small or something big …. doesn’t matter.

Perhaps you have been wanting to sign up for a cooking class.

Let us challenge ourselves.

I will say that pretty much everyday I am challenged and learn something new.

Some days it is a small thing but that is okay.

My brain is firing and working and learning … and that is always a great thing.

How many times did I use the word “thing” …… am just realizing “a lot”…

Happy Friday Everyone.

Thank you for reading my blog and sharing your thoughts.

I do so enjoy reading them.

Special Hello to: all my blogging friends …… write away ….. keep sharing.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day……

Good Morning and Welcome to Monday the 17th day of February, 2014.

WOW – how did we get here?

One day at a time, I suspect.

It is beautiful here in Edmonton – the sun is shining brightly.

The sun always makes me feel good – no matter what the day may bring my way.

Today is a work day at the store – that is okay.

I was just reading some of my fellow bloggers and I am reminded that there is a lot of good people in the world.

I wished that every story we read was good and kind and well.

I love when people rescue animals or other people.

What a wonderful world this would be if we all just did that – rescued each other – every living people.

Treat every living being on this planet with kindness and respect.

You do not have to love every person or every animal but the very least you  should do is to treat them with kindness and respect.

So try it today …. go out and be kind and respectful.

I will tell you this …..

When you treat the world with kindness and respect – it comes back to you in return.

I wish you all a very great day.

Some of the Canadian provinces celebrate this day as “FAMILY DAY.”

It is a statutory holiday in some provinces and it is here in Alberta.

Happy Family Day …..

Special Hello to:  I am going to see if I can get hold of my sister to SKYPE …. yahoo.

Always and Forever, Carol and her Alvin.

Thought for the day…..

Good Morning and Welcome to the 6th day of March, 2013.

Hello, I hope that this finds you feeling great and ready to take on the day.

Yesterday in a conversation the discussion came up of “feeling pride with oneself” …..

You know the feeling good when you have accomplished something …. big or small.

Knowing that you are a good person ….. feeling good with yourself.

There are so many people out there, myself included who have struggled with the knowing that you, we have done a great job.

I believe that it starts when you are a child.

If you do not have anyone cheering you on …. giving  you praise when you deserve it …… moulding your self-worth…

Then you grow up to have low-esteem.

I have struggled with low-esteem my whole life.

Unfortunately people think at first blush that I have a solid self as I am outgoing.

They are not one in the same.

I think that when children are small and for example when they are going to school …. we as parents help them study ….. then they do well on their tests and this builds self-worth, self-esteem.

Children need their parents help to grown and prosper …. mentally, physically and spiritually.

If you neglect your children and only yell at them “do your homework”  or “be quiet”  (for example) ….. then you are not helping to build self-worth.

I think some people are of course born with that good sense of themselves while most of us need some help to get started.

This is early in the morning so I hope that I am making sense.

But at the end of it all ….. and this took me fifty years to realize …. THAT WE ARE ALL WORTHY AND DESERVING HUMAN BEINGS.

Sometimes we stray and make mistakes …. but that’s okay ….. brush yourself off …… learn from the situation and be a better person for it.

Self-worth is something that we all have to work on every single day.

We are all important in the world …..

So have a great awesome fulfilling day ….. you are incredible, and me, too.   🙂

Thought for the day…..

Wow, it is WEDNESDAY, January 11th, 2012 (whoops had to correct to 2012 …. first typed 2011).

I must admit that I have written down 2011 a few times but right away caught myself and made the correction.

How many times have you inadvertently written down last year instead of this one?

It is okay …… after writing down 2011 for 365 days ….. it is no wonder that we take a few times to get it correct.

It is like anything in life …… sometimes you need a few tries to get it just right.

If we got everything perfect on the very first try …… how boring would that be.

We are human beings and although most of us try and would like to be perfect …..

As good as it may be …… we seldom reach that diamond glistening mirror ball.

That’s okay.

Actually I think we are perfect ….. really perfect just the way that we are…..

It is the things that we do and want that we think make us perfect or not.

We, ourselves ….. are perfection …… I am perfect for me and you are perfect for you.

Does this make sense?

I know that I work on and want to be the best me that I can be.

Not the best you or the best Miss Jones down the street.

But the best me.

I think that if we just be the best that we can be ….. that’s pretty great.

Don’t try to be someone else.

I hope that you all have a great great middle of the week.

Special Hello: to all my friends in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Sweden, British Columbia, Ontario, New York, Brasil and Alberta……. everywhere….

Thought for the day……

Yesterday, I attended a one day course on “diversity, multi-culturalism” at work.  It was most interesting and definitely shed light on some of our thought processes when it comes to ourselves and others.  Most people in my experience tend to ignore, nervously laugh or the opposite be negative about other cultures, and this is due to lack of knowledge for the most part.  What we do not know or are not certain about we tend to fear.  Our group was very diverse.  We have some co-workers from other countries/continents. So it makes for some interesting conversation when you start discussions.  Even how we deal with grief can be hugely different from country to country and definitely from continent to continent.  In Canada, we tend to be “indirect” …… more reserved I would say.  Whereas other countries put it out on the table, and not necessarily in a negative way.  Sometimes I think that being direct gets classed in with a negative aggressive behaviour.  Anyway, it was a wonderful day and I learned so much.  I have always believed that we are all created equal no matter where we began.  I treat everyone the same no matter what their position or station is in life.  After all, we breathe air into our lungs and walk on two legs and have that thumb thing happening (LOL).  So we are the same.

I am excited for the day when only positive flowing feelings flood this great planet of ours.  How love fuels our lives and keeps us warm.  I also learned that our smiling at everyone you see can definitely be misconstrued; because it means different things in other countries.  I laughed to myself when I heard this.  Sure wished that there was an universal way of being friendly and welcoming when you see someone in passing without speaking.  Perhaps I will find a gesture and spread the “word”, I mean non-word.

Anyway better sign off for now.  I hope that you continue your learning and understanding of others.  We all share this beautiful planet and it is about time that we live in peace, harmony, and respect of each other.

Thought for the day…..

Once a year every human being on this planet has a “birthday”.

Some people celebrate with great pomp and circumstance.

While others choose not to observe the day due to religious beliefs,

While yet others choose not to celebrate in a big way but do so in a quiet manner, and then there is everywhere in between.

Sometimes it is just a cupcake with a candle while out for a nice meal.

Sometimes it is your favourite cake and you are surrounded by loved ones.

Sometimes your best friend will surprise you with a party.

Sometimes it is just your dog that greets you at home after work, and gives you lots of kisses and is so happy to see you.

Sometimes it is enjoying take out and watching your favourite movie.

I think birthdays are awesome.

It is one day each year that is totally for you.

Now that does not mean that you have to be showered with gifts, have a huge cake with candles and be surrounded by everyone on the planet.

It means to me that I can reflect on the previous year and think about all that I have done, all the people that I have met, and ponder the future just a tad.

Birthdays do not always have to mean that you are getting another year older but I know that of course we all do.

I think we should all treat the day as a means to think about what you have accomplished and that does not have to be in terms of big things but rather it could be that you set a goal and met it.

It will and can mean different things to different people.  I guess you could say at my 54th birthday I am tending to “ramble” just a bit.  LOL.

Anyway it is early in the morning before I leave for work and I just wanted to say a few words about birthdays.

Hopefully this will make some sense to you all.

If you are celebrating a birthday today ….. Happy Birthday ……

If you celebrated a birthday yesterday or the day before ….. Happy Birthday …

If you are going to celebrate a birthday tomorrow or the next day ….. Happy Birthday.

Let’s celebrate the best in each other…… I always strive to be better than the day before…..

Be kind, gentle, and loving.

Have the best day.

Always, Carol

P.S. thank you to all my friends and family who have sent me “Birthday Wishes” on this my 54th birthday.

I am so grateful to have all of you in my life.

Thought for the day…..

Good Morning Dear Readers,

I was just thinking as I was “washing my face and putting on some eye-makeup” that I look pretty “darn” good for 53 (54 in August).  There are no apparent wrinkles, my complexion is the best that it has ever been, my neck looks smooth, and I feel that I look vibrant and attractive.  LOL.  Seriously…..   So my thought for the day (not just telling everyone that I look “good”) is this ….. “LOOK IN THE MIRROR, REALLY LOOK IN THE MIRROR.  WHAT DO YOU SEE?  I SEE A BEAUTIFUL HUMAN BEING.  ONE THAT IS KIND AND WISE.  LOVING AND GIVING.  THOUGHTFUL AND GENEROUS.  WARM AND INTELLIGENT.  FUNNY AND THOUGHT- PROVOKING.  THERE IS SO MUCH MORE THAN WRINKLES OR NOT.  THE ODD BLEMISH.  CREPY NECK.

IT IS WHAT IS ON THE INSIDE THAT REALLY COUNTS.  WHAT’S ON THE OUTSIDE IS REALLY ONLY AN ILLUSION.  So despite my earlier confessions about my visit with myself in the mirror earlier this morning ….. I REALLY DO SEE THAT I AM A HUMAN BEING ALONG WITH ALL OF YOU.  WE ARE.  WE ROCK.

So have a great great day my fellow HUMAN BEINGS.  Wherever life may take you on this Thursday ….. take care, be present and aware, be kind and loving and for pete’s sake SMILE….

Always, Carol

Cleaning the office…..

Last week I spent a few days going through my office.   It is the room that houses my book collection, my computer, boxes of photographs, magazines, some craft supplies, collection of cards that I have received over the years, my daughter’s high school report cards, year books, and other “important stuff”.   There were several storage containers in the closet that needed to be reorganized as well as the book cases.   Usually twice a year, I go through each room and re-organize and re-vamp.  It always surprises me how many things I end up tossing (usually paper products), recycling or donating.  I am not surprised by TLC’s show about hoarding.  We  human beings tend to accumulate stuff.  Of course, some of us collect more stuff than others.  I was pleasantly surprised when Kelly Ripa of Live With Regis & Kelly told the audience that her husband likes to go through their “things” on a regular basis, and with a giggle almost threw out “their marriage certificate”.  But I think that he is more the exception than the norm.  People just like stuff.  I mean really, you can go into all these stores and buy little “doodads” and “gadgets” that really do little for anyone’s well being, and at the end of the day usually end up in the nearby landfill.  We are filling not only our homes with “stuff” but landfills and the oceans.  2011, is the year that I am going to watch more closely the things that I purchase.  It is not only the money aspect but I want to be a more responsible citizen of this planet.  When my grandchildren arrive and as they grow along with my great nieces and nephews, I want them to inherit the beautiful planet that I remember from my childhood.  I am not sure if this is realistic but I really pray, and wish that all the residents of this planet would take more care in what they bring into their homes because inevitably it will end up elsewhere.

So you keep your treasures;  Grandma’s china, Mom’s jewelry box, your Grandpa’s pocket watch and your nephew’s artwork (or at least some of it).  Perhaps you have a relative or friend that would love to have some of your Grandmother’s china or some other ornament.  Keepsakes are a good thing.  As you get older, as I have found, I have instructed family and friends to “cut out” the ornaments for birthdays and Christmas.  I really have no need for more ornaments.  Giving gifts of movie passes, dinner theatre tickets, spa treatment, babysitting services, and the list goes on and on.  Those are the things that we should give each other …. I mean for the adults.  Unless you have a real need for something …… keep this rule in-force DO NOT BUY.

I guess that I have gone off the topic somewhat here.  But that is okay, this is my blog and I can do that…… (please keep reading)…..(thank you).

Alvin was bugging me for his supper (earlier than usual) so I just took a bit of a break to feed him.  Back to cleaning the office.  I am a lover of moving the furniture around ….. this makes me feel like I have a new room.  Feels great and is easy to do.  What an easy makeover and economical, to boot.

As I am a sentimental being, I try to be realistic when I am spring or fall cleaning a room.  The rooms that are most demanding are the office, kitchen and my bedroom.  So when I am cleaning, I really think about each item.  Do I really need this?  Does it function or make my life better?  Will future generations be in awe when they come across it in Grandma’s trunk?  Better yet, could this item help someone else?

At the end of the day, my office is a couple of garbage bags cleaner and more organized and efficient.  At least until next time I perform a miracle.  Yes, I am GOD…..or at least I think so.  LOL.

Here are some photos of before and after.  You be the judge or perhaps not…… I feel better about the room and that is truly what is important.  Alvin likes it, too.  Good luck to you all in your cleaning endeavours.  May the force be with you.
