Last Half 2022

Good Morning ALL! What a gorgeous morning. Bright sun shining and mostly blue sky. There are a few deep blue clouds but for now the sun is shining and that is what matters. I of course, am running late as I cannot seem to stop clicking on that darn “snooze button,” why oh why!

Today is the birthday of a friend (co-worker). Wishing you a great day Miss Suzette. She took a few days off for her birthday week. Another huge birthday – Happy 4th of July 2022 to our neighbours to the south and to my friends and cousins who live in the United States. Wishing all a wonderful, safe and fun day.

We had a great Sunday. I veered in a total different direction from my original plans for the day. WE were up in good time. I thought that we should go for a walk while it was still morning so we did. We walked right over to our friend Pauline’s house. The garden did not require any watering between my Friday watering and the rain on Saturday. I let Mr. Alvin off his leash so he could wander around unfettered. We both just enjoyed the sunshine and the beautiful garden, my secret garden, of sorts. Of my favourites, the roses. She has multiple bushes and one of them is right near the house, so it looks like it is running up the house. The bush was just filled with incredible pink blooms. The fragrance is another story. I do not know how long we sat in the garden as I did not wear a watch and that is the best kind of time, not paying attention to the minutes, living in the moment. I gave Alvin a few drinks of water while we hung out in the garden.

I, noticed when we were walking through the entrance to the park that there appeared to be a pink rose bush growing out of a white one??? So I investigated to find that someone had picked a bunch of pink roses and set them on the white rose bush. So on our way home, I picked them up and took them home so that they could be appreciated and not wasted. I was able to take most of them and have a beautiful rose bowl which is filling up the main floor with that incredible fragrance.

Yesterday I finished some laundry and decided that I should go through the odds and ends of jewelry that we have accumulated for our Dear Stella Jewelry business but not jewelry that we made. When my daughter and I had our business, technically we still do. Anyway, on a couple of trips and from around Edmonton, we came across some unique pieces so we kept them thinking that perhaps we would reuse them and never did. So I had this container filled with jewelry of all sorts. I spent several hours going through and had the realization that I have some very cool pieces. So at some point when I am ready, I will gather together and have a sale.

I also decided to make some changes with pictures and managed to get two of them moved and asked Sonja to help with the others and she also changed some light bulbs for me. I have the best neighbours.

Well it is getting very close to work start time, so have to go. Plug in the coffee pot as I always enjoy that first cup of coffee.

Have an awesome Monday – go outside.

Continuing to live this life with kindness, respect, compassion, patience, love, laughter, understanding, gratitude, focus, possibilities and COFFEE.

Always, Carol & Alvin

PS: today is 36 days until my 65th birthday. WOW.

The New YEAR 2022

Good Morning ALL! How are you this bright Wednesday morning? Alvin and I are well. Perhaps a slight sleep deprived but otherwise good. The sunrise is so pretty this morning as the night sky dissipates once again. Every morning now I can hear geese honking as they fly about the neighbourhood. Nice to have them back. A good amount of the snow has melted especially if you are in the open and face south. Sometimes we can have snow on our front lawns that face north well into the warmer months. It appears that most of the snow has melted from the rooftops. My neighbour said it was to be +15 degrees celsius today. If that is the case, a good amount of the snow will go. We have a little problem as most of the snow has melted from the deck and the grassy area is not passable for Mr. Alvin to go to the bathroom, so this may cause some fancy dancy calculations. I will see what happens over the course of today and see if I can make the grassy area of our backyard easy for the Alvin to access. Oh what a life!

Yesterday I am happy to say, to report really that we got in “two” nice long walks. Which is great. One at my lunch break and one after work. When we left the house after work, we saw our friend down the street with her two pups. We waved at each other. Alvin and I crossed the street and headed over toward them. Leon, her new pup seems to be settling in pretty well. We walked together and chatted about everything from work to light bulbs. I had a light bulb question. An actual light bulb question, not a “light bulb moment.” So happy to be walking twice per day again. Feels good.

I also cannot believe that today is Wednesday where in the heck did Monday and Tuesday go. Seems like it was just the weekend.

Well our bright sunrise has now diffused as some darker clouds are rolling in. Hopefully short-lived.

My daughter texted me to see if it was okay if she came for supper on Friday. I said yes and realized that Friday was April 1st. So I texted her to confirm she was really coming although I cannot imagine that she would play that prank on her Momma. Maybe something else but not playing around with a visit. No way. I, we are excited to have her over. We are planning to make a stir-fry. Her favorite.

Well as the world continues to turn and we continue to move through each day, I wish you the best. I will continue to do my best. Making the right choices, hoping that the right words come out of my mouth.

Continuing to live this life with kindness, respect, compassion, patience, love, laughter, understanding, gratitude, focus and possibilities.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Second Half of the NEW YEAR.

Good Morning, Sunday it would be.

The air is bit cool but not too bad for September 13, 2020.

We had some rain earlier and it looks like there is more to follow.

The trees are swaying in the wind.

Alvin and I are putting the finishing touches on preparations for friends who are coming for coffee at 10:00 this morning.

My girl friends and I have been having coffee on weekends for years.

In the first months of the pandemic we stopped meeting but have resumed once again.

We are always cautious of keeping each other safe.

I washed the kitchen floor and still have to put out some goodies and make the coffee.

Last night after supper I baked a banana loaf.

Smelled so yummy in the house last night.

Yesterday was a clean out of the pantries kind of day.

I emptied the big one and reorganized things in the built in pantry.

I am lucky to have to of them to fill.

The second one is a cabinet that I purchased from our office back a few years ago when we were renovating the building.

Who knew that less than two months after returning to the newly renovated office space, our building that we own, COVID19 would hit and we would be working from home.

Some folks have been working at the office during the pandemic but they keep them spaced, everyone has to wear masks and clean after they are done in their workspace for the day.

Clean, clean and clean.

Back to the pantries.

Of course, one would think that I would have some empty cupboard space but no I do not.

I have not gone out and purchased a bunch of things either.

But perhaps I am better organized.

I do not know.

Anyway always nice to redo, reorganize things.

I feel light.

After purchasing a package of light bulbs from COSTCO on Friday, I decided to change those bulbs.

I have three big fixtures that take multiple bulbs.

When I opened the one in the family room in the basement, I realized after putting the bulbs into the fixture and turned the switch on that I had purchased non-dimmable ones

and alas that fixture is one of two in the house that are dimmable.

I was not pleased with myself.

So I took them out.

Put the one that had not burned out back in …..

I also realized that the bulbs were smaller and were 40 watt.

The tag on the fixture said maximum of 60 watt for certain kind of bulb.

NOT happy camper.

Then I climbed up the ladder and took down the fixture at the bottom of the stairs.

Put in the bulbs and voile, brightness.

Hauling the ladder up to the landing to the basement, I went to change those bulbs.

I was not able to get the fixture completely down and as it hung precariously, I grabbed my cell and called for some help.

Of course, no one was able to come over.

Back up onto the ladder and finally after several anxious minutes I was able to get it down.

It was when I was putting the bulbs in that I saw the small writing on the bulb that said DO NOT place these bulbs in enclosed fixtures.

They worded it differently but the long and short of it …. if the fixture was not open you can not use them.

I was so mad at myself.

So I left the fixture off the one at the top of the landing as I have to fix it ….. the stem came out …. not sure what to call it.

Anyway it needs some fixing before could put it back up.

Then I hauled the ladder back downstairs and took down the light fixture.

When I turn on the lights they are bright, bright and oh so bright.

Decided for now that I will leave the fixtures down and as I only have the lights on for moments at a time …. they will be safe.

I want to replace all these fixtures.

In fact, I really do not like any of the fixtures in this house including one of kinds that I purchased after our almost fire in November of 2010.

Anyway, I am babbling now.

As it won’t be cheap to replace them all …. I have to do only a few at a time.

Basement not priority.

I want simple.

Not sure why they have to make fixtures that require a degree in electrical engineering to get down.

AND

Whose bright idea was it anyway to make five million different kinds of light bulbs.

Anyway, I need to go and finish getting ready for my company.

If you have any great ideas that would help me out in my quest to have simple light fixtures.

Ones that you can just unscrew the bulb without having to spend hours taking down the fixtures, I would be ever so grateful.

I was thinking pot lights would be nice and simple but …..

I hope that you all have an awesome Sunday.

Be safe.

Be kind and respect of yourself and all others.

To our neighbours to the south that are battling the fires ….. you are in our thoughts.

I read that some of the larger animals that are able to escape the fires are coming up north.

Instructions were to keep your pets indoors and leave some water outside for the animals.

Again all the loss of life both human but mainly insects and animal life.

The numbers will be too large to accurately count.

I cannot fathom the destruction ……

With love, kindness and respect,

I/We shall remain,

As Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Wednesday the 19th day of October, 2016.

Dark dark now and just wait this weekend we turn our clocks back one hour.

Instead of it being 6:12 as it is now it will be 5:12 a.m.

Alvin has had a head start on that change.

This morning we were up at 4:30 a.m.

Oh my boy ……

Guess what!

I have news.

Yesterday I went to Costco with my daughter.

Guess what one of my purchases was?

You will never guess.

LIGHT BULBS.

It would seem that I had some burned out in every room.

Now when I turn on the lights there is no place for those dust bunnies to hide.

I could not believe the difference.

I can see my kitchen once again.

Almost every room was in dim mode.

As my daughter said “good lighting for beauty.”

Which is true.

Both of the light bulbs in my downstairs bathroom burned out at the same time which I thought was strange.

How does that happen?

Anyway whenever I was in there had to leave the door open as there are no windows.

So looking in the mirror gave me a nice glow …..

The upstairs main bathroom looks like you are on a stage and ready to belt out a tune.

Honestly I felt like I should have sunglasses on.

My bathroom now I can truly see to put makeup on and do my hair ….. before it was touch and go.

Always checked things out when I got to work.

Slightly kidding here.

Makes for a better story.

I bought two boxes and replaced 11/12.

The combined total in both boxes was 12.

Yikes.

Note to self: ask to go to Costco more often.

Well almost time to hit the pavement.

My friend “V” sent me a message last night to tell me there is another package on the way to me.

OMG, what a girl.

The theme is “orange” so wonder what might be in that box?

I cannot wait.

Definitely something good to look forward to tonight.

It is a great Wednesday.

Lights on and someone is definitely at home.

Have a great Wednesday.

Remember to have a sense of humour.

My friend and co-worker and tea drinker “K” is taking me to StarBucks (her treat) for a pumpkin coffee.

Cannot wait for coffee break.

Well time to fly.

Have an awesome day.

Special Hello to: all those friends out there making your friends feel so loved.

Always, Carol and Alvin
