2021

Good Morning All! How are you doing this Sunday morning? Did you sleep well last night? We slept straight through for six hours and then up and then back to the sofa. Nice to have a solid amount of sleep. The skies are overcast this morning. We managed to get all of our housework completed yesterday. Only have to bring up the clothes that are air drying from yesterday and put them away. I think that I may clean out my bathroom cabinet. It wasn’t long ago but I feel it could be better organized. Likely time to put away the winter coats and things as well. But perhaps I will do that on the Easter long weekend as I will have four days off and a project or two is always good to have. There will be time for lots of walks and if the weather remains dry – I may get out to do a neighbourhood trash pick up. I have been picking up trash everyday now for awhile. It blows in front of my house or onto the lawn. Trash sticks in the storm drain grates and in the gutters. Garbage is everywhere. Seems to be so much this year. I cannot remember if I mentioned this when we walked to Alvin’s vet appointment on Wednesday there is a walkway. In the bushes on the walkway were what seemed like a hundred disposable coffee cups from McDonalds, Starbucks and Tim’s and others. I wanted to cry. It was obvious that people were finished their drinks and then tossed them into the bushes. What is wrong with people? Now this almost 64 year old woman who was appalled by their actions has to take her time and garbage bags to go and clean up their messes. On the bright side it is exercise for me. Also there are blue disposable masks everywhere and I mean everywhere. Come on people! Are you neighbourhoods like mine? People cannot say that it is only the old or poor neighbourhoods that are dirty and filled with trash for that is definitely not true. I am truly disgusted by some people. I wish that people would just carry their cups and masks and what have you to the nearest garbage bin or home. Also another reason for trash blowing about in our ‘hood is the lack of proper placement when putting out their garbage. Most especially the recycling. When Alvin and I are out for our walks, I see people put papers, egg cartons loose in a blue bin or cardboard box and what happens when the wind comes up ….. they end up at my house or on the street for me to pick up. So many people just leave crap laying on their lawns, in the gutters and on the sidewalks in front of their homes. They sometimes even walk around items instead of picking them up and putting said trash in their garbage bin. There is hope coming for garbage as we will eventually all have bins with lids and then garbage cannot blow about. Also will help keep the crows, ravens and magpies out of the trash. Hopefully it won’t be another decade until we have bins for recycling. I guess that is a heavy duty rant for a Sunday morning as I smile.

Well I guess someone needs a cup of coffee or three. Alvin is impatiently waiting at the office doorway giving me that look. What look? That look ….. impatience. Perhaps he has to go back outside. He went before we can back upstairs for me to have a shower. Oh well, old bladder, I get that. LOL.

I hope that you all are having a great weekend. I am looking forward to our walk this afternoon.

Have a wonderful Sunday. May you have some quiet relaxing time throughout this day.

Remembering to live with kindness, respect, compassion and patience (always working on).

ALLways, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Thursday the 19th day of October, 2017.

Another gorgeous day on the way and with luck with a tad less wind.

Have to share my Wednesday story as this all happened after I left from home and after I wrote my blog.

As I walk up to the entrance to our office building, I come across one of my co-workers with her travel mug in one hand and a Tim Horton’s coffee in the other.

She smiled and handed my the Tim Horton’s coffee and said “this is for you.”

For no reason ….. not my birthday ….. no special occasion ….. just because she is thoughtful.

I was so touched …..

Now this would have been the best way to start a work day BUT then after almost reaching my desk …. another co-worker … held out his hand with a bagged “apple danish” from McDonald’s…. Would you like this?

I said sure …. as I had my hands full …. he placed it on my desk.

Could not have been a better start to the work day to be sure.

Our office was closed to the public and I was to attend along with some of my immediate co-workers a training seminar on “deescalating situations.”

I was a bit intimidated by the whole role playing and the fact that I was missing quiet time at my desk.

To have no phones and no interruptions at work is always a good way to get work completed.

But into the training I realized that this was in fact most valuable.

I learned two things:

  1. that at 60, I had learned and knew how to react to escalated situations.
  2. and that at 60, I still had room to learn new ways to react to escalated situations.

No matter your age – there is always something new to learn, and we can always be taught something new.

After a long day of role playing and waiting around while our team-mates took their turns …. the day was over.

I walked to the bus – happy to get home to me Alvin.

Shortly after I made it to the bus stop …. my new friend E.Z. arrived at the stop.

It was not long after that when two of the buses that we can catch, pulled up….

The first bus appeared to be full so we walked to the second bus and that is when I heard “Carol” ….. hey that was my name.

As I looked a couple of vehicles behind the bus there were the OILERS FLAGS blowing the wind and my friend in the red vehicle.

I said good night to my other friend and ran over to the red vehicle.

Surprised to see her – she explained that her son was working late and she thought as she had to go right here anyway …. she would take the chance.

CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?

What a lucky day.

Unbelievable.

Coffee / Apple Danish / Learn New Things / Ride Home

Great Day.

Now this Thursday is going to be amazing.  I can just tell.

Perhaps I should check my LOTTO Ticket ???

OMG.

Special Hello to:  all those folks over 60 – still learning new things.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Sunday the 12th day of June, 2016.

It has been overcast and raining off and on this morning.

There have been slight moments of brightness appearing out of small cracks in the deep blue clouds, sun I presume.

It was cool in the house when we first got up this morning.

But no need to turn on the furnace at this time of year.

I just returned a bit ago from cleaning up part of the neighbourhood.

A particular walkway to the 62nd Avenue.

One side is our residential neighbourhood and the other is a very main street and on the other side a bunch of fast few restaurants and a strip mall.

So quite often meaning all of the time there are a vast array of cups and fast food wrappers from Starbucks, McDonalds, Dairy Queen and Boston Pizza.

I have asked for a garbage barrel to be placed there but to no avail.

I guess as long as someone like me will pick up the garbage why would you pay for a barrel, bags and someone to empty them.

Oh well.

I do not mind ….. I am helping out my friends and neighbours.

The only one that truly minds is Mr. Alvin as I have to leave him at home and he does not like that.

He likes me to be at home on the weekends.

I cannot blame him.

Well I guess time to go and enjoy my coffee while it is warm.

The first cup earlier I only drank a bit of it as I wanted to get out before the rain arrived.

Funny thing it rained a bit when I left the house and started to come down a bit harder on my way home.

Just gave me the perfect time to get it done.

YAY.

My neighbours that have been here since I moved to Edmonton are moving out tomorrow into a brand new house that they had built.

Not too far away so I think we will see each other but likely not quite as often, I suspect.

I am looking forward to meeting and getting to know the new people.

I shall miss my neighbours.

“S” was here alone when I moved in and two years later got married.

Nothing last forever and change is a learning process or at least that is what I keep telling myself.

Mr. Elton is coming over at 3:00 p.m. to spend a few hours with his Grandma and Alvin.

We look forward to spending time with him.

Did I mention that my irises are blooming?

The most perfect purple.

Well time to sign off.

I wish you an awesome Sunday.

Thank you for reading.

Special Hello to: “M” longtime friend ……

Always, Carol and Alvin
