Living … One day at a time.

Good Morning All,

Thursday it is.

Yesterday turned out to be great weatherwise.

On our walk I just wore a sweater, yay.

The sun did shine.

After work I picked up Humphrey as his Mom was busy after work.

Then started supper as the TELUS service person was to arrive somewhere between 5-7 p.m.

Lucky for me he was at my house by 5:19 p.m. and finished everything and gone by 6:03 p.m.

So I quickly scooped up Mr. Alvin and went for a short walk as we did not wish to leave Sir Humphrey alone for too long.

I was pleasantly surprised when I learned from the TELUS person that I would not in fact lose my series scheduling.

Yes, I lost the few shows that I did not manage to watch from the old PVR but I was so OVER THE MOON pleased that I did not have to set up the scheduling again.

So it worked out.

Humphrey was very intrigued by this young man, he followed him and watched him as he worked.

Alvin he was excited and yes, barked some but behaved pretty well all things considered.

I really thought it was cute when Humphrey walked over to the young man’s bag and looked in.

He also laid on the floor in the office while he was swapping out the MODEM and just watched intently.

I was able to watch the two shows I missed on the TELUS ON DEMAND.

YAY, me.

We had a great night ….. pretty quiet and that is always great on a Wednesday.

You may wonder why I repeat my message, this message everyday?

About being kind and respectful.

It is a reminder to me mostly.

As some days, maybe most days it is easy to lose the kindness and respect aspect.

Sometimes I am disappointed in my behaviour but I always try to do better.

After all, I am only perfect in that I am not.

Well almost time to leave.

There be poop to pick up in the backyard.

Yup, that will always bring one back to earth.

Yes, it will.

I hope that you are having a great Thursday whether you are just starting, half way through or at the end.

Wherever you are….. whenever you are ….. have a wonderful day.

With kindness and respect I shall be me.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Thursday the 18th day of May, 2017.

Clear blue skies and sun rise.

Great start to this Thursday.

Last night I noticed a post on FB asking if you agreed or disagreed to teachers placing student’s cell phones in a central location until class was over.

My stance is absolutely put them away.

There is nothing that they need to be seeing or doing while in class getting their education.

Nothing on social media or email or the world wide web that should keep them from learning about the environment, science, our planet, social and health and so on.

I know that most people, adults and young ones of all ages are reluctant to give up their phones, it is as if they were an extra appendage.

Perhaps in the future we will have a built in device to communicate with ….. who knows but for now they are hand held.

But in the meantime ….

In class no and at work no.

If there is an emergency it can be dealt with the same way they have been for many years ….. phone the principal or the employer.

Or using these devices on your breaks whether at work or at school.

Why we feel the need for instant gratification is beyond me.

Just my opinion.

I do think that they serve a great purpose but with some restraint, please people.

Everyone on the bus has their cell phones out either surfing on the internet or talking to someone.

Some people do listen to music …. which is okay ……

People walking down the sidewalk with their heads bent over with full attention to that little screen.

People thinking that they can drive and walk and text …. well that is just …… I will not say the word(s).

Personally I do not have a cell phone.

Yes, I am almost 60 and no cell.

I have a land line.

Old school.

I do not wish to be in constant contact.

I have voice mail so that people can leave message if they call and I am unavailable.

I have email on my computer.

Not that perhaps someday I will obtain one but for now it is a luxury that I do not need.

I do think that our “social ness” is slowly slipping away.

Not enough face to face conversation.

Manners are almost a thing of the past.

Some folks cannot even have a family supper without every member sitting at the table checking their phones.

Something seriously wrong with that picture.

How important do we think we are anyway?

How important is it to reply to every little message or post?

What is it with selfies anyway?

I guess coming from someone who has taken photos at every event her whole life with no photos of herself or at least not many.

Perhaps it is not totally a bad thing.

Anyway food for thought.

Perhaps at the dinner table phones should be left in the bedrooms.

Out at a restaurant leave them turned off in your purse or pocket.

We waited before and we can wait again.

The world did not come crashing to an end because you did not post that selfie of you eating a tomato or liking a photo someone posted.

Well time to go to work.

Another day.

Happy day …. sunshine….temperature warming up.

I still have not turned on the heat.

Good or bad …… it is a little nippy in the house.

Happy Thursday.

Special Hello to: all those cell phone users ……

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Thursday the 7th day of July, 2016.

WOW, July 7th ….. 7th day of the 7th month ….. should be a lucky day.

Isn’t every day a lucky day ….

The sky is overcast and it is raining off and on.

Our office is cold so I have dressed a bit warmer today but likely by the time we are off work it will have warmed up.

Gotta love these days.

It seems to be that in any multi story building it is hard to regulate air conditioning.

There is always an area that is super cold or hot and some are just right.

Sounds like the three bears story.

Well today is payday and that is great.

That thought reminded me that I had a threatening phone call with a badly recorded message.

A poorly devised SCAM ….. I was not fooled.

The Federal Government would not be calling and leaving that kind of message before they took everything.

Not too likely.

I kept the message as I was going to have someone listen to it and report it to the RCMP.

Anyway …. bad people out there.

Be aware.

Well here we go almost time to leave once again.

Alvin had fun yesterday with Elton.

Elton is so full of energy.

I am so happy that the kids went ahead with his surgery a few months ago.

It was expensive but how can you put a price on “life.”

Anyway, I enjoyed the walk with my boys Alvin and Elton.

Elton was so enjoying sniffing about …..

I hope that you have an awesome day.

Happy Thursday ….

May your day be filled with love and laughter.

Special Hello to: my sister ….. yes, SKYPE on Sunday…… do not forget (this message is mostly for me) LOL.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Friday the 2nd day of October, 2015.

WOW, it is October now.

Well into fall.

The past few days have been absolutely gorgeous.

Alvin and I have thoroughly enjoyed our walks.

Last night when we were just about to turn down the path to the lake, I heard a young girl shout “Hello Carol.”

I turned to see a black car and a little girl’s face beaming out the window ….. one of the kids in our neighbourhood.

Now this was special …. you will never guess why??

I will tell you.

Because it is always Mr. Alvin who gets the recognition/attention.

Which is okay by me but when someone shouted my name ….. I was super excited.

YAY …..

Last night after work while Mr. Alvin was chowing down – I was going to make a phone call and found I had a message.

So upon checking said message … I found it was from my dear cousin “J.”

I wrote down the number and called her right away …..

Would seem she will be visiting my Edmonton today to see a play at the Citadel.

So guess what?

I get to have a visit …. overnight with my cousin, go see a play at the Citadel (theatre not movies) and go out for supper before the play.  ALL HAPPENING TONIGHT.

Now just seeing my cousin would have been cause enough to be SUPER EXCITED but to go out on top of it …. well there are no words.

I will really have to set my concentration on deep mode today….

I was worried about Mr. Alvin but then I thought well I will be home to feed him and let him outside etc …. I had an idea that perhaps he could have a sleepover at his sister’s house.

Called his sister and she said “of course.”

They will be in the neighbourhood at our Vet on way home ……

Perfection.

I am so blessed.

Slept in this morning …. couldn’t sleep ….. once too many times on the sofa with the microwave timer set.

Anyway my neighbour is giving me a ride to work.

So lucky ….. I am on top of the moon …….

So somedays when you think that life is going pretty well …. like my Steeped Tea sales are whistling a long …. it is the weekend soon ….. and then all of the above happens …. well ….. okay now I am babbling.

But I am HAPPY …… can you hear Mr. P. Williams just a singing that song … love his voice.  Oh and THE VOICE this season …. incredible ……. I have quite a few favourites…..

Well almost time to go and grab my lunch and make sure I have everything ready to make a quick change after work…..

Just beaming at this end …….

Have a great great Friday and I hope that you get that call that brightens your day or maybe a knock at the door.

Something extra to push your over the HAPPINESS PLUS METER.

Special Hello to: my cousin “J” who is coming my way and to my sister – got your email ….. talk soon.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day …….

Good Morning and Welcome to Tuesday the 21st day of July, 2015.

It is a wonderful morning here in Edmonton ….. the sun is rising, the rain clouds have almost dissipated and there is a bit of a breeze.

Forecast is for another warm one ….. not super hot and that is great.

On Saturday while at our Vet Clinic, I ordered a water bottle for Alvin.

One that I can carry while we walk.

Guess what …. there was a message from them …. the bottle is in.

Already, I am thinking….. wow, that is fast.

I guess with computers ….. no more paper orders …. just click and then it is in the mail or perhaps hand delivered.

I am so excited to see which one they could order.

Last night one of my neighbours called to come for a visit ….. I was drinking tea and made her a cup of coffee.

She loves the coffee that I make in my percolator.

Alvin loves company ….. he was so excited …..

We had a great visit followed by a walk with Mr. Alvin.

What a wonderful evening.

Do you ever think of an item that you could use but there is really nothing on the market?

Consider making something but wonder where do you start?

I was thinking about something…..

I will keep it a secret until I figure a few things out.

Who knows maybe I will re-invent something ….. just a bit different that is currently on the market.

Well here it is almost time to leave for work once again.

Where does the time go?

Sometimes it feels like someone is holding up a giant vacuum at the top of the world pulling moments up one by one.

Well doesn’t that sound a bit better than the actual reason?

I wish you an awesome Tuesday.

I know that this is going to be a great great day.

Filled with all good things.

Special Hello to: all my fellow bloggers, I hope that you are enjoying your summer(s).

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day…..

Good Morning and Welcome to Tuesday the 31st and last day of March, 2015.

Crazy – I cannot believe it is the last day of March.

It seems like only yesterday we were bringing in the New Year.

YIKES, which reminds me …. I have not changed my voicemail greeting.

Oh well ….. at least for those who do call and leave a message they will receive a very upbeat greeting.

I am so glad today is Tuesday as yesterday I was stuck in some kind of “mad gear.”

I do not not what else to call it.

There was nothing really that happened that was bad or super negative that would drive me to be in that frame of mind.

But I was stuck in that gear all day long ….

Until I got home to the puppies.

Followed by going to Costco with my daughter.

Topped up the evening with GIRL GUIDE COOKIES and a walk with my daughter, the puppies and my neighbour came along.

Thank goodness for puppies, cookies and girls.

The girl guides were next door as we were leaving for our walk …. there be girls … on the lawn …. on the sidewalk ….. cookies in a wagon ….. puppies excited …. my neighbour out to buy cookies.

It was so much fun.

Well here we go again time to leave for the office.

The sun is starting to come up …. oh, how I love this time of year.

I am so grateful to have had such a great evening last night.

I hope that you have a great last day of March.

It is promising to be a great one here in Edmonton.

Thank you.

Special Hello to: YOU …..

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day…..

Good Morning and Welcome to Sunny Saturday the 10th day of May, 2014.

So happy that the sky is blue and the sun is shining.

It is going to be a great day.

Alvin is at his sister’s as per usual …. he always sleeps Friday nights there as I work at the store.

So the house is so quiet.

I could hear a pin drop …. well maybe.

But he will be home soon along with his sister who usually comes for a cup of coffee.

I love our visits.

Also today I am going to call my siblings ….. time to catch up.

YAY.

So between laundry and housework and a walk with Alvin, I will chat with my family.

What a grand way to spend my day off.

Truly it is great.

Oh and throw in a quick trip to the grocery store and organizing a neighbourhood clean-up.

This is my life and I would not change a thing….. 🙂

On this awesome Saturday I hope that you are able to connect with family or perhaps a friend who lives far away or maybe even close.

Go for coffee with your sister or drop by and see your Mom and Dad.

It does not have to be for Mother’s Day …. or Father’s Day.

Everyday is special …….

I know you are busy as am I but we need to take those few minutes or hours and visit with those people who are special in our lives.

We spend more time with the people we work with than our family and friends.

So that take time …. most important.

I received a phone message from my sister last night …. she said that one of our brothers had called her to talk, and asked how and where I was …..

So a reminder that even though I work six days a week and have a lot on my plate – I must take the time to call him, her and them ……. family.

I think of my family and friends all the time.

Have a great day.

Special Hello to: my sister and my brothers and my friends.  You are all amazing and have been so supportive and I apologize for not calling more often…..

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day ……

Good Afternoon and Welcome to Saturday the 14th day of December, 2013.

Just over a week now until the big day …. how did that happen?

Seems like only yesterday it was Halloween.

Had to sleep in this morning as I worked both jobs yesterday, and till midnight at the store as the mall had their MIDNIGHT MADNESS.

I can just barely see some sunlight peering through the blue clouds.

Oh, how I wish that the sun would shine.

Please I hope and pray that moisture stays away for awhile.

I shovelled this morning before my daughter brought Mr. Alvin home …. at the entrance to the garage …. I shovelled Thursday night ….

There is no room to put any more snow.

I am now throwing it between our garages ….

The deck looks like someone threw a snow bomb back there.

The roof tops ….. I hope it melts some before we get more.

But alas there is more snow in the forecast.

But a girl can hope …. and pray …. and then hope again and then pray and WISH.

My sister had a Friday the 13th story, that I just read and I would love to share with you.

My sister and (her son) my nephew were supposed to be coming to Alberta to visit one of my brothers.

She was all ready to go …showered …. makeup done ….. just going to put a couple of things in a bag, and go downstairs to feed the kitties when she heard a SSHHHH ….

Running downstairs to the bathroom she saw that the pipe from the toilet had sprang loose, and water was spraying everywhere.

Spraying her in her face and soaking her from head to toe.

Just like in the movies.

Panicking she called my nephew and no answer.

So she called her boyfriend and no answer, then she called his work number and he rushed over and turned off the water.

She was able to get in touch with her son and found out he had during the night  come down with the flu, and not the kind that you can travel with …. was unable to come to help.

His wife came in with their shop vac so at least they could mop up most of the excess water.

My sister was able to get hold of a plumber recommended by my nephew and he came out within a couple of hours.

She also phoned our brother, and he said the roads were terrible and it was still snowing.

These are her exact words and they are perfect:

My take on all of this …. We weren’t supposed to go yesterday!!!!!  Something not only stopped one of us, BUT BOTH OF US RIGHT IN OUR TRACKS.  Now that’s a message from the universe if I’ve ever heard one.

So true.

See the Universe always tells you what to do or at least points you in the right direction if only you listen.

Thank goodness it was a strong message.

You see the important part of this story is …… where my brother is living in Alberta the roads were terrible and it was storming.  No travel was recommended.  If my nephew had not come down out of the blue with this bad flu and the water pipe had not burst they would have been on the road.

Thank you Universe for keeping my family safe.

HUGE REMINDER TO LISTEN TO THAT INNER VOICE ….. THE UNIVERSE AND SOMETIMES IT IS AN OBVIOUS PIPE BURSTING OR STOMACH FLU THAT STOPS YOU RIGHT IN YOUR TRACKS.

OKAY, now it is time to check on the laundry and then take Mr. Alvin for a much deserved walk.

Special Hello and THANK YOU to: THE UNIVERSE.

Always, Carol and Alvin
