Living … One day at a time.

Hello, what a gorgeous morning.

Mr. Alvin and I are just in from a glorious walk.

Only meet up with two sets of folks out walking with their pups.

One was a 14 year old with his/her Mom & Dad and they were close to us so we stopped after checking with them first.

Said hello.

The other was on the way home and it was a large dog with his Dad.

They were on the opposite side of the street.

That dog clearly wanted to come to our side of the street but the Dad kept on walking.

Likely better.

We stopped and took in the sights as we walked around the ponds on our walk.

So beautiful.

There was/is a bit of a cold breeze which felt so refreshing as it feels like a warm one coming.

The sky is a brilliant blue with no rain clouds in sight.

We did not see the geese anywhere in plain view.

So likely they were in the shade of the trees by the water.

Birds chirping their morning songs as we walked along.

I appreciate the work that some folks put into their yards.

Filled with beautiful flowers of every description; manicured shrubs and lawns.

We managed to get both the front and back lawn mowed yesterday.

My neighbour mowed the front with her electric mower and I mowed my back.

We take turns mowing the front lawn.

So excited as today is finally the day that I have planned to get this room back to normal.

Or at least most of it.

Some of the items that will be hung – will have to wait until I have extra hands.

Unfortunately Alvin’s paws won’t work.

I know that he wants to help.

Yesterday we changed things about slightly on the main floor (not furniture), dusted, vacuumed and washed the floors.

Today it is all about the upstairs.

Mainly the office.

Well time to get this show on the road.

Breakfast first.

Oh, my toaster gave up/gave out yesterday so had to use the oven broiler to make my toast.

The toaster does not owe me anything as I had it for ten years.

But will have to get another one shortly.

Coffee is ready …..

Also after trying in vain to find a new spot for my LARGE plant, like it was an umbrella plant; I gave it to my neighbour.

She was happy as one of hers just recently passed.

So it worked out for everyone.

Beautiful healthy plant.

But just TOO big to fit in nicely.

I hope that this Sunday brings you great joy.

That you show kindness and respect to all living creatures and it is shown in return.

Happy Sunday.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Saturday the 18th day of August, 2018.

The sky is that same grey white smoky colour.

The wind is blowing as I can see the trees swaying.

The air SMELLS of smoke.

I opened the window earlier and had to shut it right away as the smell was so strong.

My heart and prayers go out to ALL those folks living in and near the areas affected by the fires.

I think of all the birds, bears, deer, moose, insects, foxes, the wildlife that may not escape the red lashes and breath-taking fumes of the fire.

I hope that they do not suffer.

I think of the domestic cats, dogs, cows, chickens, horses, pigs that are not able to escape.

I hope that they do not suffer.

Last night after supper, I decided to mow the grass front and back.

Followed by watering the plants, trimming and deadheading the plants and flowers.

Not long afterward Alvin and I were sitting on the sofa watching some television …. it had got dark rather quickly.

I looked out to see that it was raining.

I did not hear the rain at first as I had the electric fans on, the furnace fan on and the television.

Not long after that there was ferocious THUNDER and LIGHTNING that lit the night sky.

Some claps of thunder made my jump.

One minute the rain was coming down in a mad rush and the next minute it stopped.

My flowers and plants will not be thirsty for a few days now.

Likely too much water.

I did not see where they were forecasting rain for last night.

They will be okay.

Hopefully British Columbia is receiving some rain.

No lightning, please.

Just rain.

I am grateful to all those FIREFIGHTERS that come from across the world to help out.

They are a breed all to themselves.

You always hear of ours going somewhere to help and then others coming here.

Thank you MEXICO.

We are so grateful.

Guess more people could take a page from these brave souls.

I pray that they are all SAFE.

Well today will be staying indoors for the most part.

Lots to do in the house.

CLEANING and LAUNDRY.

The fun things.

Have an awesome day.

Be kind to every creature whether two or four-legged, winged or crawling.

We all play a role in this place we call EARTH.

We need each other.

Happy Saturday.

Special Hello to: all my friends and family who have made this the best summer, thank you.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Saturday the 26th day of May, 2018.

The sun is shining and the air is that morning cool.

There have been mornings where it just seemed hot from the get go.

There is a welcome breeze which helps.

Busy weekend ahead.

We are on pet sitting duties beginning today and for a week.

The pets include our energetic Master Teddy who is joining us this morning at 11:30 a.m. until mid evening AND our neighbour’s Humphrey the cat and Cinder the Gekko.

So we will be busy.

In between mowing the grass, watering plants (later on), laundry and a bit of housework.

The neighbourhood is beginning to come alive.

Someone close by has a motorcycle running and now has taken off.

Alvin has disappeared from his blue blanket as with all of the windows open he can hear the noises from all around and has gone to investigate.

Last night after work my daughter brought me home with a stop at Value Village.

We are doing our best to reuse and recycle whenever possible.

Which is most times.

We both found a couple of items that we were happy to purchase.

Then home for Alvin.

She stayed for a short visit before heading home.

I spoke to my neighbour and was able to borrow her vehicle to go for groceries, so check another item off the TO DO LIST for the weekend.

While in the store I struck up a conversation with a nice man.

Actually he spoke first.

I have found most men as soon as anything is said will quickly mention about their wives.

Not sure if they notice that I am not wearing wedding rings or what is the thing.

Anyway he was quite nice. (and cute)

There were so many people in the store all rushing about.

We chatted about that for a minute.

I was alongside the veggies that get sprinkled from time to time and he was coming back to get a bag.

Anyway after our first encounter we bumped into each other during our time in the produce section.

Nice to actually have a conversation with a man that I did not know that did not quickly rush away.

Living the dream.

After returning home and putting groceries away which by this time was close to 7:30 p.m.

I got Alvin all ready to go for a walk.

We stopped to see if Presley, Vader and his Momma could go for a walk and they agreed to come along.

We had a nice visit and walk.

By the time got home it was after 8:00 p.m. and time for supper.

Just an easy egg with toast and tea.

Busy few hours but very productive.

After supper watered the flowers.

So nice to be light out until after 9:00.

Well the coffee is ready and I have to eat breakfast.

Went to bed late and was up early and then back to the sofa.

ARGH.

I want to go and visit Humphrey before Teddy arrives.

Alvin wants my attention.

Laundry to do.

I hope that you are enjoying this day.

Live your life.

Do not let your life live you.

Happy Saturday.

Special Hello to: my daughter – I love spending time with you …… happy Saturday my darling.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Sunday the 25th day of June, 2017.

We have had a glorious weekend here in Edmonton.

The sky was a bright blue earlier but now is clouding over…

I am planning to mow the grass so hopefully if it does rain that it waits for a little while.

Yesterday morning I helped my neighbour move things about from her garage to mine, temporarily.

Alvin had some anxiety issues and one of my friends from down the street heard him and came to the rescue.

She was worried that something had happened to me.

I guess when you live by yourself having people watch out is a good thing.

He was whining and barking as I had put a little wall so that he could not come into the garage from our backyard.

I did not want him to go into the back lane and a car come zooming down …. well you know what I mean.

I had been checking on him everything I came back into the garage but he is definitely a Momma’s boy …. has to be at my side on the weekends.

He is fine during the week but on the weekends when I am home ….. I have to be accessible to him.

All is well.

We had a play date with our friend and her little dog Presley although they really did not play with each other much.

Work in progress.  We had fun and Alvin played with a toy in the back yard …. running and chasing.  So cute.

Well after spending almost 45 minutes on my COUNTDOWN: 60 Days to 60 post I had better get going.

Lots to do.

Have an awesome Sunday.

Looking forward to mowing the grass.

Happy Sunday.

Special Hello to: my friend “V” who has the best ideas.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day……

Good Morning and Welcome to Sunday the 14th day of September, 2014.

Oh, what a gloriously beautiful sunny warm morning.

It feels like summer again but with a hint of coolness to the air.

You know the feel that you have in early fall.

It is so nice outside.

I spent a couple of hours outside yesterday (it was beautiful, too) mowing grass, pulling weeds, trimming back my roses (which I am going to pull as they just are not doing well), emptying most of my plant pots (a few were not affected by the recent frost) and just general tidying up.  It was glorious.

This is truly my favourite time of year.

Oh, I hear the geese honking up a storm as they are preparing for “winter” or travelling south.

Some stay for the winter ….. others do not  ….. I should google to see why.

Anyway …. they were flying by and saying hello.

I certainly have enjoyed this weekend.

How much better than this does it get:

-started Saturday morning off with coffee at my friend “G’s” house.

-then home and Penny had gone to the Vet with her Momma & Dad so decided that me and the boys should go for walk.

-we did, it was so nice out.

-then home mowed grass and did yard work ….

-laundry and some cleaning.

-made supper.

-went for groceries after supper.

-then had tea and watched a Star Trek movie or at least part of one. (I have already seen them all a million times, so I know how they end).

-then to bed …. snuggles with Mr. Alvin ….

PERFECTION.

I hope that you had a perfect weekend thus far.

Today I am off to work at the store.

Just enjoying a cup of coffee and some quiet time before I leave.

Have a great Sunday.

Do something fun today.

If you have sunshine ….. go outside and enjoy ….. no boots or heavy jackets …….

Special Hello to: my sister back in Regina ……. HELLO ……

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day……

Good Morning and Welcome to Sunday the 17th day of August, 2014.

Another hot muggy summer day here in Edmonton.

Alvin and I went for a walk a bit ago while it was still somewhat cool.

There is still a cool breeze so that helps especially when you are wearing a “fur coat.”

I had a glorious weekend …… still coming off the afterglow of Friday.

Having a barbecue at work, off early, shopping at the mall and winning movie passes.

WOW.

I am so grateful for every single thing that I have ….. from the tip of my toes to the roof of my house.

It is mine and I am proud and grateful and happy.

Sipping on a hot cup of perked coffee and I am truly on top of the world.

Next a nice relaxing shower – get ready – working at the store.

I have a short shift today – Noon till 4:30.

I am okay with that …… means I will get home earlier.

So that will be nice.

I always look forward to my Sundays at the store …..

I work with the best people on the planet alongside my family and friends, of course.

This is a happy, grateful, thankful, positive, smily, hopeful day ….

It is a great day.

So polish off that SMILE ….. get out there and enjoy the moment.

Take your SMILE and present it to your family, friends, strangers ….. just get it out there.

Be kind …… do something nice for someone.

It can be anything really ….. from opening the door to mowing a elderly neighbour’s lawn to taking a friend who is feeling low out for lunch or coffee.

Just do something nice ….. also you could go into your neighbourhood and pick up the trash.

That is a big thing for me…… seems like so many people like to leave things behind ….. I guess to show that they were there but still really people ……

I picked up several items on my walk this morning with Alvin ….. hands full with keys, poop bags and dog on leash.

So you can do it.

Take care and see you tomorrow……

Special Hello to: MOTHER NATURE …… THANK YOU.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day…..

Good Morning and Welcome to Saturday the 14th day of June, 2014.

Bright and sunny with a hint of a breeze that cools the early morning ….. it is almost Nine so not that early.

Well today is going to be a huge day for me …. I have a TO DO LIST about one mile long.

Have you ever had that day when you made out your list and it was almost scary the amount of chores and things you had to do?

Today is that day for me.

It is almost daunting as to where to start.

But all you can do is make that list.

Start at the top ( put something on the top that you can do quickly).

Once you have finished or completed a task – cross it off with a marker or highlighter – something that will stand out.

You will feel so much better that way.

It shows up as you complete the items.

If you get near the bottom or even half way and still too many things to do in the course of one day …. then see what you can do later.

We always get carried away thinking we are SUPER “WOMEN” or “MEN” …… sometimes we are.

So deep breath …… consult the list that I started and write that list.

I will tell you one thing ….. it feels so amazing to cross things off of a list and see what you have accomplished over the course of a day or two compared to just buzzing around trying to think of what you have to do.

Less stressful and I believe wholeheartedly that you accomplish more with a TO DO LIST.

So let’s take off ….. get things done ….. what you cannot easily accomplish today save for tomorrow or perhaps ask for help.

I know that Alvin has had his heart set on mowing the grass for his Momma … and who knows I might get his help.

Now wouldn’t that be a sight ….. watching a doggie pushing the lawn mower.

Which is a push one powered by “muscles” …..

Happy Saturday.

See you back here tomorrow.

Special Hello to: all those people who are looking around and seeing tasks to do and do not know where to start …… write your list ….. have fun.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day…..

Welcome to my day off …..  today is Friday, July 20th, 2012

Wow, past the mid point in July already and what a July this has been.

We have had hot, hot temperatures followed by and with a mixture of torrential rains and winds.

The timer just went on the oven.

I made OREO mini cheesecakes for my company that arrives tomorrow.

A couple of girls from work are coming over to meet Alvin, see where I live and have a visit, some food and see our Dear Stella Jewelry.

So should be a great day.

So today I want to finish cleaning the house and do some more food preparation.  We are doing a potluck so it makes it easier for everyone.

I work tonight at Bath & BodyWorks so only have until 4:00 p.m. to be done.

I shall be DONE.

I have three sort of small jobs but have turned into HUGE jobs because I do not know where to start.

The first one is this new fangled bathroom tissue holder of mine came apart …. it can be fixed ….. I am unsure as to how?  But I will figure it out.

The second one is all of the electrical cords hanging down from my wall mounted television.  WHY, OH WHY ….. wished everything was cordless and without batteries.

The third on and one that I can fix ….. is that I had four wall mounted gallery wrapped framed photos on my kitchen wall, and one of the top little ones came loose and fell down.

We had originally put it up with those velcro things…

So not huge things but as the days and weeks have passed by …. just enough to be a PAIN.

Now you know that normally I do not get frazzled or un positive but really ….. what does a girl do?  I wished that Mr. Alvin could help me out.

Somedays being a single woman on her own …. is not “fun” ….

I sometimes wished that I had a handyman around the house.  A girl can dream, right.

Okay enough about my “small things” ….

The sky is slightly overcast and it looks like the sun wants to come out.

Perhaps it was waiting for me to get over myself and get back to reality.

Just do it.

I am a intelligent woman and I can figure things out.

So I shall.

Yes, I shall.

Well better get going and have a cup of coffee and WORK.

Last night:

I did mow my front lawn as well as the neighbours on both sides and my back patch of grass.

Did three loads of laundry and straightened out the laundry room after I had let that damp patch of concrete dry out.

So last night I did quite a bit after work.

I love having company and as you can tell sometimes get a bit over the top ….. worrying about the cleaning and stuff.

Normally my house is pretty clean and always ready to receive company.

But I always strive to be the “best hostess”  ….

I hope that you all have a great weekend.

Special Hello to: all those hostesses and single ladies who fret when trying to make everything extra “perfect” and this could be for single guys, too.

Always, Carol and Alvin
