Living … One day at a time.

Good Morning and today would be Wednesday, the 27th day of November, 2019.

Yes, it is.

Can you believe it?

Less than one month till Christmas.

I love this time of year.

Yesterday one of my coworkers gave me a fancy outdoor light bulb that dances in multiple colours.

She had changed her outdoor light fixture; it no longer fit and was new last year.

There is no other way to describe it.

Photos, I took photos.

Just a minute.

There be a party going on at my door.

I didn’t have my tree on the porch lit up at the time so it would be even more colourful.

Love this bulb.

What a great invention.

I cannot help but to look over and over at the photos.

Alvin wasn’t quite sure what to think.

After I changed the bulb and had gone back into the house.

I turned on the light and opened the door.

Alvin slowly walked to the doorway but not all the way.

I think that dogs cannot distinguish colour but he would have seen the movement.

Likely wasn’t certain what to think.

He knew I was happy, though.

Sometimes it is the smallest things in life that can make you feel so good.

Tonight after work my daughter is driving me home.

I love when she brings me home.

We catch up in the 30-45 minute drive.

So much fun and I love chatting with my girl.

She is the best daughter ever.

Sorry, folks.

She just is.

Well we did not make it out for a walk last night.

It just felt too cold and I had a chill.

Hopefully tonight will be a bit warmer.

I know it will only get colder.

There was some ice mixed in with the snow.

It was icy when I was leaving the office.

Well I suppose it is almost time to go back downstairs.

Grab my lunch.

Go outside and do the poop pickup.

Not that I particularly like poop or anything like that but I do like the word.

For some reason it does not bring to mine horrid stuff.

Anyway …. that is how I feel.

I hope that you are having a good day thus far.

Wishing you all the best for this day and always, of course.

Thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to read my post.

So grateful for you.

Spread kindness and respect and the world will be a better place.

Always, Carol & Al

P.S.  did I say that we had some …. yes, we sure do.

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Monday the 3rd day of December, 2018.

For a split second I started to type January, erased and then started to type November.

WOW, in a hurry to see the New Year.

Skirting the last month of the year?

Well folks we definitely have WINTER in a big way.

More snow now that we have had so far this fall/winter.

Considering officially WINTER has not started.

We are currently in the throes of winter.

Thankfully the snow that has been falling is the fluffy kind.

So shovelling is easy, peasy.

My neighbour and I have collectively shovelled the front since the snowfall on Saturday about ten times.

I shovelled the deck in the later part of the afternoon yesterday and this morning you could not tell.

Also shovelled the driveway for the first time since the snow began to fall and surprisingly enough there was only about 5 inches.

I was pleasantly shocked/surprised.

Poor little Alvin …. almost getting lost in the snow.

So at 5:30 a.m. – I was out shovelling.

At least there may only be one foot by tonight instead of two.

The deck is beginning to look like one giant snowbank.

I love this fluffy snow though.

When the light shines it appears to be a billion trillion diamonds.

So beautiful.

Well Mr. Alvin is laying on his little blue blanket beside me.

Just resting away.

Well I should go and shovel the front before leaving for work.

The street is one big snowbank with a couple of tire tracks down the middle.

When vehicles one has to pull over and then watch them spin trying to get back on track.

Have a Happy Monday.

I hope that you are safe on your travels.

Special Hello to:  all those people who take the time to help ….. thank you.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Tuesday the 27th day of November, 2018.

Another beautiful day on the way.

Yesterday was a bit cooler than the past several days but still so nice for this time of year.

A time of the year when weather can change in a heartbeat.

Oh, that is most times of the year.

That is living in Canada.

Our weather can change drastically from morning to noon to night.

My Grandma always said “Variety is the spice of life.”

Do you think she was referring to the weather?

Likely not.

Oh well.

I feel sassy and full of vim and vigour this morning.

Most times I am not an early morning person but perhaps it is the extra things I am doing that are helping.

I started taking Vitamin D, a multi-vitamin and onto MATCHA again with breakfast.

Anyway, I feel great.

Certainly is a good way to begin one’s day.

Sunday night I came across something that Charles Dickens had written.

It was on a Christmas card.

I thought it would be appropriate to share it with you:

“I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year.”

     Charles Dickens

Such a lovely sentiment and something that we should all try to do.

I do try and keep positive thoughts in my mind (most of the time) and following with kind and generous actions.

But to say that I will honour Christmas in my heart and try to keep it all the year – just brings it up to another level.

We all have heart ache in our lives.

We all have situations that do not go the way we thought or intended.

We all have moments/times when our thoughts and actions are less than stellar.

If we all just take 5 minutes each day for ourselves.

To bright the light back.

We can live through the heart ache.

We can change our thoughts and intentions.

We can have more stellar thoughts and actions.

If you are feeling great and in a good place …. your thoughts and actions will show this.

I hope that you have an amazing day.

Keep Christmas in your heart.

Be kind to yourself and to others.

Special Hello to: all our Angels on earth and in in the heavens, thank you.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Wednesday the 3rd day of May, 2017.

The SUN is rising in the eastern sky and the view from my south facing window is gorgeous.

Blue sky with high lights of sun beams.

How lucky am I?

Very…….

Well today I wrote my “3286” entry in my Gratitude Journal.

That translates to approximately 9 years in a row of writing every morning.

I pretty much have been writing every morning for decades but this is all about GRATITUDE.

It is an awesome way to begin each day.

Also this is my 7th year of writing this blog.

Cannot believe how quickly the time is flying by.

This past January was 7 years since I adopted Mr. Alvin.

My daughter turned 37 years in March.

I will be 60 in August.

I have worked at my office job here for 5 years last November.

So many milestones.I am one lucky woman.

If you sometimes think that you have not accomplished anything or are just feeling lowly …. sit down and make a list.

I guarantee that you will be pleasantly surprised.

Well it is time for me to leave and Alvin needs to go outside.

Have a wonderful Wednesday.

Special Hello to: my friend “V” ……

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Wednesday the 7th day of December, 2016.

This is Day Three of the Big Deep Freeze and only 1  1/2 weeks to go ( not 100% certain about that but that is what they forecasted a couple of days ago).

One never seems to warm up when it is almost – 30 degrees celsius with the windchill.

Any wind just seems to pierce through your layers and ping against your skin.

But I am not complaining – just stating the facts.

We, I am so grateful for a beautiful November.

We did have some in October actually quite a lot and rain.

What a mix.

Last night when we were taking a few minutes watching a show before bed.

Alvin rested his head on my lap.

I was so touched.

He never does that …..

He looked so darn cute.

Well here it is time to start bundling up for the walk to the bus in the deep freeze.

Not so bad if you have good layers on ……

This morning I am pulling out the big guns …. big warms boots, big mitts … the ones that are good for these temperatures.

I am prepared.

Have a wonderful Wednesday.

Talk to you later.

Special Hello to: my sister …. SKYPE soon….. Sunday?

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Wednesday the 30th day of November, 2016.

Last November 30th of 2016.

I cannot believe that in three years it will be 2020.

I am excited for that date to come around ….. not quite sure why.

Have to share a “somewhat cute story.”

After work I always or mostly always catch a city bus to my home.

Last night I caught the usual bus downtown; we stopped at West Edmonton Mall per norm.

I have got to know one of the bus drivers, an older gentleman and so nice.

So we usually chat from downtown until West Edmonton Mall and then the bus clears out and I can sit down.

We chat about bus schedules, our dogs, family and life in general.

This time I decided to continue our conversation and did so once everyone had hopped on and was seated.

When we got to the bus terminal “Lewis Farms” …… yes it has my last name.

Very cool.

Sidetracked.

Okay back to the story as it will soon be time to leave for work.

So he dropped us off and I walked across to the bus stop where I catch the bus that will take me within walking distance of my house.

I was waiting at the stop …. first in-line ….. wait for it.

Usually I am by myself for a few minutes as no one wants to wait outside.

Last night people started to line-up behind me.

After a few minutes the bus arrived pulling over to where we were standing.

Just before he came to a full stop three teen-age girls walked from behind everyone and came over beside me.

The bus stopped virtually right beside me.

This all happened in a matter of seconds.

They were beginning to cut in front of me to enter the bus, and I said in my most stern voice  ” HOW RUDE” and “nicely” got in front of them; onto the bus taking the first empty seat.

One girl said “We are all going to the same place” as they walked by me on the bus.

I was going to say something like “I know, so why did you cut in front of the line?” and my better self said do not continue this conversation.

Another older woman smiled at me when she got on and said “thank you.”

Why is it that some people think they can get away with bad manners.

Not around this cookie.

I felt like “MANNERS REBEL” ……

Anyway I do not think people should get away with being smart asses and that is what they thought they were going to do “push the old lady out of the way” …. not this old lady.

Perhaps they will think again before jumping the line or maybe not.

Perhaps it will give other people who are constantly taken advantage of “say something.”

Anyway now it is time to leave for work.

I hope that you have a wonderful day.

Snow flurries are in the forecast for tomorrow.

Happy Wednesday.

Special Hello to: all those folks who never say anything …. perhaps you should.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Tuesday the 29th day of November, 2016.

Crazy with the fog as of late.

Yesterday morning there were “fog advisors” in our area.

Now this morning there is fog again.

If the tales and perhaps the science is correct there will be lots of moisture in a few months.

Snow or rain that is the question?

So far this has been a crazy abnormal winter although it has not formally arrived for we, Western Canadians, and in Canada overall, November is Winter.

I am enjoying wearing my shoes to work and not having to carry or leave them at work.

We did have a bit of time that the boots were our choice of footwear but not as of now.

Likely December there will be snow.

We had a good sleep however in the morning I would also prefer to stay snuggled up to me Alvin than to get out of bed.

But I guess we have to make a living and part of that at this point in time has me leaving the house to go to the office.

I often think of those lucky folks who can work from home.

I do know that there are ups and downs, pros and cons to working from home but somedays and most especially this time of year – it would be nice.

Can you imagine?  No walk to the bus.  No waiting for said bus in snowstorms both in the morning and at night.

Oh well, where is the fun in that …. I guess.

Well after me “belly aching” about winter, buses, and snuggling in bed …. it is time for me to go and catch said bus.

I hope that you are doing well and that you have the most wonderful day.

Thank you.

On the upside I am working on Christmas Cards and letters.

Some are mailed and some are hand-delivered.

Special Hello to:  YOU.  Cannot imagine my life without you.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day ……

Good Morning and Welcome to Monday the 28th day of November, 2016.

Well here we are with only three days including today left in the month of November, 2016.

Can you believe it?

I think that I say this every month but I have found as I get older the months simply “fly” by.

They come in with all of the pomp and circumstance of a new month for that year, and then the days go so quickly that we almost forget that we have had that month.

I guess in a way it is kind of funny, if you think about it.

Sometimes perhaps we spend too much time thinking about time.

Do we have enough time to do all of the things that we need to do?

Time is passing so quickly.

What time is it?

Will I be on time?

I am afraid that I will run out of time to do  all of the things on my “bucket list.”

How many minutes before the bus arrives?

I am late.

The list goes on and on.

That is the human race everything revolves around time.

I understand our need to be on time, to have enough time and about time passing so quickly.

I think “TIME” is the one thought that is constantly on our minds.

So perhaps on this Monday ….. if possible …… just be in the moment.

Do not think about those moments before or those afterward ….. just live in the moment.

Hard to do, I agree.

But if you can well worth it.

Even if you only are able to complete this “task” a few times a day – it will take away from that constant bombardment of “time.”

Take care and have a great day.

Special Hello to: my kids and baby Milo who are living now without their beloved Elton and Penny ….. take care my darlings.  Think of all the great times…you have wonderful memories.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Wednesday the 16th day of November, 2016.

I have to apologize to my nephew “J” as I missed his Birthday yesterday on my blog.

Happy Happy Birthday – Wishing you a wonderful day.

*********************************************

Well we had an interesting night.

So happy that we had a nice long walk last night as there is snow on the ground this morning.

That is not to say that we do not walk most of the winter (depends on the temperatures).

Anyway we were in bed, gone early, and I was reading.

Alvin is not so much into reading. ( giggling aloud )

All of a sudden he start retching and then threw up.

I immediately jumped out of bed.

Grabbed his clean up stuff including paper towels.

Cleaned off his blanket and threw it into the wash.

Got another one of his blankets out of the closet.

Cleaned him up and brushed his teeth.

It only happened once and he seemed fine EXCEPT he would not go to sleep.

He basically was awake all night.

I know that I fell asleep off and on.

He would just sit up looking into the night.

Scratching and licking himself here and there.

Poor guy.

This morning he seems fine although he was shaking a bit at my breakfast time.

He ate his breakfast (no problem) and had some water.

He did his business outside.

He must be exhausted, I know that I am.

Not much sleep.

We have an off-site staff meeting today – I will have to check myself if I begin to yawn.

He also has a “Laser Light Therapy” session today.

Our Vet’s office has purchased the machine and today they are doing some free sessions to try things out in real time.

I have someone that is going to take Alvin to the office as I cannot.

I am certainly glad that he appears to be okay and I was worried earlier.

Appears that we have some snow.

Just a dusting.

Is winter here?

We certainly enjoyed our beautiful summer/early fall days in November.

Well almost time to hit the road.

I am so relieved that Alvin is feeling better or at least appears to be so.

Happy Wednesday.

I hope that you all have an awesome day.

Special Hello to: my family

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Sunday the 6th day of November, 2016.

Sky is overcast and it has been lightly raining for almost the last hour.

Time changes this morning so I have an extra hour.

I guess that I had better get changing my clocks before I forget.

Lots to do on this Sunday:

  • finish laundry
  •  check on Cinder (her Momma is on vacation),
  • go through our jewellery for the sale next Saturday – take photos, make sure each item is priced and packed up for travel,
  • make a poster for our Combo Christmas Event on December 10th, 2016,
  • do an on-line event for said event,
  • bit of cleaning,
  • clean the walkway to 62nd Avenue and our street as people just are lazy and it is filled with trash once again,
  • walk with Alvin,
  • make some phone calls regarding upcoming tea events,
  • WHEW

Yesterday was a beautiful day.

We enjoyed the walk to the Vet in the morning and also later in the afternoon.

It was not an usual November day temperature wise.

Even raining in November is not usual.

Well I guess I had better get this show on the road.

Get dressed and check on the laundry.  Have coffee and check on Miss Cinder.

Special Hello to: You.

Always, Carol and Alvin
