Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Thursday the 4th day of April, 2019.

Dark outside as it is only 6:15 a.m.

Alvin is feeling his own self once again.

The household returns gladly to normal.

I enjoyed the day watching over my boy.

We went for a nice walk later in the afternoon.

So nice to no longer be wearing heavy coats, scarves, mitts, hats and boots and for Mr. Alvin, his winter jacket.

I have been noticing more honking by the geese or perhaps it is only more geese.

Back to work today.

Yesterday on one of the daytime shows “Rob Thomas” was the musical guest.

He sang “One Less Day.”

I was taken by the lyrics.

Here are a couple:

I’m not afraid of getting older.

One less day from dying younger.

I pondered those statements, and how true.

We often worry and stress about getting/growing older.

Perhaps we feel that we will lose what we have: health, family and friends.

Perhaps we feel that we will not live to be in our golden years.

There are so many things we think about regarding age.

Maybe, just maybe if we think about it from Rob’s point of view.

One less day from dying younger.

I am not afraid of getting older.

Truly, I have not really thought about it too much.

I have the thought in my head that I am in good health and am going to live to be 100 years old.

I try to live in each moment and not go back or ahead too much.

As we live and breathe – dying is a fact of life.

Not much point wasting precious breaths worrying about something that is inevitable.

So go on live your life.

There is only time ahead of you.

Well almost time to head on downstairs, grab lunch, put on shoes and coat and head out for work.

Catching a ride with my neighbour as my carpool’s son has knee surgery today.

Happy Thursday.

So happy to be alive and to be here.

Have a great great day.

Special Hello to: all those folks who read my blog, thank you.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Thursday the 26th day of October, 2017.

Last night the wind HOWLED and BLEW and HOWLED and BLEW.

We decided, well I decided not to walk as I feared we might blow away or worse be hit with flying garbage of some sort.

Better to stay at home and be safe.

We enjoyed our time together …. me and Alvin ….. snuggling on the sofa.

Relaxing.

I am so grateful to have this blog – an on-line diary if you will.

Always nice to look at and see what was going on …..

This DATE last year:

Good Morning and Welcome to Wednesday the 26th day of October, 2016.

Another one of many dark mornings to come.

Appears to have been raining overnight.

Still mild so sidewalks and streets should be ice free.

Please be careful …..

Wow only a handful of days left until Halloween and then my time.

My time to put up the tree.

My time to decorate the house inside and out.

My time to send Christmas cards, letters and current photo of me and Alvin.

My time to BAKE.

Our time to appreciate all that we have.

I am so grateful that I can make my own choices when it comes to the above.

I am so grateful for all those who watch over and look after us all.

I am so grateful for my family and friends.

It was a late night and early morning.

I honestly slept in a bit so have to cut this short.

So much running through my head.

One thing:  can I really leave the house with my hair like this?

Yes, I can because I have no time.

It is clean but a little wild.

Will blame it on “being older.”

It could work.

Maybe.

Good for a giggle.

Honestly it is not that bad.

Really.

Am I trying to convince myself?

Yes.

Time to go.

Have a wonderful Wednesday.

Live in the moment and be mindful.

Special Hello to: my friends and family.

Always, Carol and Alvin

P.S. this year – my hair is good.  Had a shower so freshly washed.  Laughing Aloud……

Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Tuesday the 3rd day of October, 2017.

Frost this morning ….. it stands out on the cars as I looked out the bedroom window.

We are going to have double digits to the positive up to and including Friday.

Not sure about the weekend as yet.

I am so grateful that ALL of my yard work is complete.

Well almost ….. the grass has to be raked ….. my neighbour said she would give it one last cut and that would take care most of the fallen leaves.

So at that, I guess I am ALL done.

So grateful for a great neighbour.

I was speaking to Mr. Alvin this morning while I was getting ready this morning.

Saying that “yes” we are getting older but that is okay.

He cocked his head to one side and then to the other.

Agreed or not.

Well getting close to time to leave.

It is difficult to get up when it is starting to get colder outside.

All our bodies want to do is SLEEP.

I would have made a great BEAR.

Mmm, maybe not.

But I would have the hibernation thing down pat.

I hope that you all have an awesome Tuesday.

Special Hello to: my friend “V” who has a relative that is dying ….. I wish her peace and to be surrounded by love.

Always, Carol & Alvin

COUNTDOWN: 60 Days to 60

Today is Tuesday June 27, 2017 and it is the 44 day until my 60th Birthday.

I have to admit that when I started on item # 38 – I had to keep referring back to the other lists as I had forgot which ones that already been mentioned.

So I have decided to just put them all together and keep adding the new ones.

Sorry for the rather lengthy post.

I have often thought a BUCKET LIST would be nice but perhaps today I will do it in reverse.

Not the things that I want to do in the future but some of the things that I have done over the years.

Okay so this is going to be another 60 things list ….. but things that I have done not necessarily favourite things but things that I have done/accomplished, okay.

*****************************************

1. Started cooking at age 6 (have been cooking now for almost 54 years).

2. Camped with cousins on a dry river bed and did not know and then the rain started and we had to leave.

3. Played in the water at Padre Island / Gulf Coast of Mexico as a child while spending the winter in TEXAS with family.

4. Bought first house on my own at age 52.

5. Adopted first doggie (Alvin) on my own at age 53.

6. Started making jewellery and had own jewellery business at age 53 with my daughter.

7. Worked first real RETAIL job (small town clothing store does not count).

8.  In said RETAIL job even had “number 1 sales per hour” in the whole company (not bad for someone at age 57 working with mainly young ones).

9.  First paid babysitting job at age 8 for neighbours with toddler and newborn.

10. Tasted first FAST FOOD at age 18.

11.  When a child walked from my Grandparents farm to ours which was about five miles away (after disagreement with my Dad and it was at night).

12. Had a mock wedding as a prank on my Mother (so much fun and she loved it, too and honestly she did not believe it).

13. Rode on the hovercraft between Vancouver and Victoria back in, I believe it was about 1997 (they do not use them anymore).

14. Volunteered to canvas for Diabetes, Cancer, and Heart & Stroke many times over the years and as recent as 2017.

15.  Belonged to the Jaycettes  many years ago in Regina.  They did so much work in the community from fundraising to organizing neighbourhood watch groups.

16.  Also belonged to Downtowner Optimist Group in Regina (great experience helping community’s children) and had different roles from member to Vice President to President.

17.  Joined Capital City Cleanup (cleaning trash in my neighbourhood) when I moved to Edmonton and still do this on my own and not in an official capacity.

18.  Had supper in the revolving restaurants in both Niagara Falls and Toronto, Canada.

19.  Sat in the shade of lilac bushes as a toddler which was happened to be where there was a nest of baby mice and spent the next several decades being deathly afraid of them.  Also had a terrible nightmare that our root cellar as a child was filled with water and I had fallen in, it was dark of course, red eyes swimming toward me (rats) did not help with my phobia.  I am proud to say after a few experiences with them in the latter years has helped me.  After moving to Edmonton in my CLEAN, not old house, I had them (mice) and first time I spent three nights at my daughter’s house.  The next two times and hopefully the last I managed to live here.  Found that it does not matter how clean your house is …. if it is COLD outside, they will find a way to come in.  PROUD to say that even though they scare me they no longer terrify me.

20. As a teenager help save the life of a young boy who had been playing with fire in a barrel (someone was burning garbage).  As, I was leaving the cafe and turned down the back alley to go home I heard him screaming and saw him on fire.  I quickly sprang in action and got the flames extinguished so that he did not have worse burns.  Left him lying on the grass, and ran for help which was close by.  Thankfully he survived.

21.  As an adult I had several occasions either on my own where I happened to be in the right place at the right time and helped a young one in distress.  I am thankful.

22. On my only trip to New York City I visited the World Trade Centre.  Visited a company we worked with and it was quite the experience.  Rode up in the first bank of elevators and then had to get off and onto the second one.  Because of security concerns back in 1994, someone from the company I was going to see had to come and personally accompany me to their offices.  I remember the view from their offices.  We also had drinks on the concourse at the harbour which was amazing.  An experience I shall treasure always.

23. Travelled to Victoria, British Columbia by myself in 2010 and spent a few days exploring the city and admiring the beauty of Victoria.

24.  Started second “career” at age 54.  I plan to life until I am 100 so have lots of years left to do work and then “retire.”

25.  Attended all different schools from Grades 9 to Grade 12 in three different Canadian provinces.

26.  Sold through direct sales:  AMWAY, Fashion Two-Twenty make-up, Tupperware twice in two different provinces and Steeped Tea.

27.  Wrote Eulogies for four different family members and gave three of them.

28.  Started to write poetry at age eight years.

29.  Jobs have done over the years: Babysitting, Berry picker,  Executive Assistant (summer job), Keypunch operator, Bank Teller,  Claims Dispatch Clerk, Mapping Clerk, Reinsurance Underwriter, small town Ladies Clothing Shop, Customer Service Clerk at Retail store with largest sales at West Edmonton Mall, House Cleaning, File Clerk and Housing Clerk.

30.  Wrote Groom’s speech for my friend to give at her brother’s wedding.

31.  Broke handle off new shovel while digging out dead cedar tree from my back garden area two years ago.  Still do not believe that one.

32.  Grateful to have attended concerts for two of my favourite entertainers:  Celine Dion and Sir Elton John.

33.  Good at making meals from virtually nothing.  I love challenging myself to using everything in my pantry and fridge.

34.  Love making up new recipes.

36.   Grew up on the farm and helped with everything from stacking bales when haying, to housework, to looking after siblings, to cooking, gardening and other chores all before age 14.

37.   After moving from the farm in Saskatchewan to British Columbia …. my Mom, Sister and I spent that first summer picking berries.  Hard work but definitely had payoff.

Here are the next 12 items:

38.  Attended one of the first Bryan Adams concerts back in the 70’s before he was the headliner.  He stole the show.

39.  Was contacted by a reporter from the Wall Street Journal with respect to one of my blog posts.  That was so exciting.  We even spoke on the phone and emailed for awhile.

40.  Ate first oysters at age 18 …. friend made an oyster loaf and it was so good.

41.  Made the most changes in my life after the age of 51.

42.  I personally know one of the founding members of the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, New York.   Started by “shaving heads” to raise money for Children with Cancer.  So proud of the work they do.

43.  First time drove the self-propelled combine I “ran into a log” …… no major damage done.

44.  Helped look after the runt of a litter …. baby pig ….. he was so cute.

45.  Learned to swim by being towed out into deep water and left to get back on my own.  I am not a great swimmer but I did not drown.

46.  I am learning to listen more as I get older.

47.  Was in the house when the funnel of a tornado was bearing down and by some miracle it hopped our house and took the roof off of the house directly behind us – not far away.

48.  I am finding that this is a difficult process.  Can this count?

Always, Carol

COUNTDOWN: 60 Days to 60

Today is Thursday June 15, 2017 and it is the 56 day until my 60th Birthday.

Been thinking again ……

“Time is the most valuable commodity on Earth for every living creature, for all plant and marine life, for every particle of dust.”

It truly is ……

We may think it is water or money or food.

But “time” is by far the most valuable.

Enjoy your time.

Each and every second.

Every moment is important.

If you have a blow-up or blow-out or moment of despair ….. just let it go.

Get over it and regain your right self and get on with living your life.

That is what I constantly work on ….. even when I have a moment or three at work ….. I get over it.

Because nothing is as important as living and enjoying your moments on this Earth.

Once you get older you will realize this about time ….. I am almost sixty and I know this to be for sure.

Always, Carol

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Saturday the 22nd day of April, 2017.

The morning sky is overcast which is how I feel at this moment.

This morning my daughter is picking us up and we are going to her house.

From there I am attending the funeral of a co-worker’s wife, who was just 41 years old.

Bittersweet as after the funeral I will be spending some time with my beloved daughter and her family.

I am so grateful that I am able to be with my family most especially on this day.

As life goes, there are no warnings and life can be over just like that ….

Any time a younger person passes it is overly sad as they did not have the chance to live a long life.

They did not have the opportunity to get old.

So now when I think “I am old” ….. which truly I am not ….. I will feel blessed to be turning 60 this summer.

On this Saturday – give your loved ones a hug and be grateful that you have them.

If you are older ….. be grateful that you are …..

Have a blessed Saturday …..

Spend some time with your loved ones……

Special Hello to: Family and Friends ….

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Friday the 10th day of February, 2017.

YAY, it is the weekend and the temperatures are warming up.

How perfect.

I spoke to the birthday boy er, I mean man, yesterday and that was nice.

My how time flies ….. still cannot believe my baby boy is 40 years old.

So I wonder, how do the milestone birthdays such as 40 of your first born nieces and nephews make you feel?

At first I thought oooh sixty but then I think wow I have a 40 year old nephew.

Actually I have an almost 37 year old daughter, too.

Sometimes I feel old and it has nothing to do with their birthdays.

Just because.

Sometimes your body feels older and some days not.

That is something that will not change – we all age.

Some of us age better than others.

Depends on gene pool and environment.

Perhaps the elixir of eternal life may be found in some future century but not now.

So we do not have to worry about living forever.

Just live your best life now.

If you have a moment where you feel old and truly you are not ….. live it and then carry on.

Well almost time to hit the road ….. to the bus.

Have an awesome Friday.

Special Hello to: my Sister, the Mother of my Nephew ….. a great person and I love her very much.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day ……

Good Morning and Welcome to Sunday the 16th day of October, 2016.

Grey skies out there this morning.

I believe they are forecasting more freezing rain over the next day or so.

Not a good thing.

Funny how dark skies makes everything feel so quiet and sunny skies are noisy.

I guess we do things differently on those days.

Going to be a quiet Sunday ….. finishing up some cleaning.

Work on my Steeped Tea business.

Just enjoy the day with my boy.

I am grateful to have some less hectic days.

The leaves are all off of my tree now.

Missed that final final raking but I guess a bit of leaf cover is not all bad.

Alvin is patiently waiting for me outside the office.

These days he is not liking walking on the laminate floors.

A sign of getting older.

Oh the joys.

Well I have to fly again …. always flying.

Have a great Sunday.

Take some time to relax.

Special Hello to: all my fellow bloggers ….

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Monday the 27th day of October, 2014.

The end of October is fast approaching.

Why is it as you get older that time seems to past so quickly?

I think it is only because in your youth time is not something you consciously think about.

As you get older in the second half of life you think about time as you ponder all of the things that you want to do or all of the things that you did not do yet and might think it is too late.

Of course then – it does seems to pass quickly.

Does this make sense?

Well it is Monday morning and some Mondays “making sense” might be just a dream.

Well maybe this is too deep for a Monday.

I hope that you are easy on yourself as you get older …. do what you can and be happy that you are able to do that.

Don’t lose sleep over time.

Live in the moment ….. be aware of what you are doing at that moment and life will still pass as it always does.

I hope that you have an awesome Monday.

Special Hello to: YOU …..

Always, Carol and Alvin
