Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Sunday the 17th day of April, 2016.

Another bright and sunny gorgeous day ahead of us here in Edmonton.

Yesterday was a jam packed day for me.

First thing in the morning my friend “J” from Regina picked me up and we went for a tour of the Ronald McDonald House here in Edmonton.

Her grandson is in the Children’s Hospital (the Stollery), so his parents and older sibling are staying at the RMH.

I was so impressed by this place.

First thing walking in the door there is an air of love and calm even though there were oodles of people walking about.

It was bustling with volunteers as it is these dear folks who do most of the work.

Volunteer groups cook meals every single day of every year.

I heard that a group of ladies come in every Thursday, and bake dozens of cinnamon buns, cookies, cakes etc..

My friend’s son said with “a smile on his face” it is difficult not to put on weight in this place

I found out that there are only a handful of actual paid employees for the Ronald McDonald House.

They have 32 rooms for families to stay in for a nominal fee.

They do not have to worry about a bed to sleep on, food to eat or transportation to the hospital.

They have a teacher who teaches the children in the mornings.

They have laundry facilities and three kitchens.

There are volunteers to drive the bus to take families on special outings and for the shuttle to the hospital.

They have lists up for folks who have time to help out with …. like wipe their tables after eating.

Perhaps sweep the floor …. help load the dishwasher or empty them.

So much is donated and this warms my heart.

All of their day to day is looked after so that they can focus on their sick children.

Such an awesome place filled with kindness, generosity and love.

It was so great to visit such an amazing place and given the opportunity I would very much love to volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House.

I thoroughly enjoyed this time.

Always remember that so many worthy organizations depend on volunteers to help out.

So if you happen to have a few hours or a day each week give one of these groups a call.

You will feel so good helping others.

If everyone volunteered what a great world this would be.

Well I am running a tad late here …. another busy day for me.

Poor Mr. Alvin ….. I will make it up with lots of snuggles and a long walk later this afternoon.

Special Hello to: all those folks who volunteer.  Thank you.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Friday the 2nd day of October, 2015.

WOW, it is October now.

Well into fall.

The past few days have been absolutely gorgeous.

Alvin and I have thoroughly enjoyed our walks.

Last night when we were just about to turn down the path to the lake, I heard a young girl shout “Hello Carol.”

I turned to see a black car and a little girl’s face beaming out the window ….. one of the kids in our neighbourhood.

Now this was special …. you will never guess why??

I will tell you.

Because it is always Mr. Alvin who gets the recognition/attention.

Which is okay by me but when someone shouted my name ….. I was super excited.

YAY …..

Last night after work while Mr. Alvin was chowing down – I was going to make a phone call and found I had a message.

So upon checking said message … I found it was from my dear cousin “J.”

I wrote down the number and called her right away …..

Would seem she will be visiting my Edmonton today to see a play at the Citadel.

So guess what?

I get to have a visit …. overnight with my cousin, go see a play at the Citadel (theatre not movies) and go out for supper before the play.  ALL HAPPENING TONIGHT.

Now just seeing my cousin would have been cause enough to be SUPER EXCITED but to go out on top of it …. well there are no words.

I will really have to set my concentration on deep mode today….

I was worried about Mr. Alvin but then I thought well I will be home to feed him and let him outside etc …. I had an idea that perhaps he could have a sleepover at his sister’s house.

Called his sister and she said “of course.”

They will be in the neighbourhood at our Vet on way home ……

Perfection.

I am so blessed.

Slept in this morning …. couldn’t sleep ….. once too many times on the sofa with the microwave timer set.

Anyway my neighbour is giving me a ride to work.

So lucky ….. I am on top of the moon …….

So somedays when you think that life is going pretty well …. like my Steeped Tea sales are whistling a long …. it is the weekend soon ….. and then all of the above happens …. well ….. okay now I am babbling.

But I am HAPPY …… can you hear Mr. P. Williams just a singing that song … love his voice.  Oh and THE VOICE this season …. incredible ……. I have quite a few favourites…..

Well almost time to go and grab my lunch and make sure I have everything ready to make a quick change after work…..

Just beaming at this end …….

Have a great great Friday and I hope that you get that call that brightens your day or maybe a knock at the door.

Something extra to push your over the HAPPINESS PLUS METER.

Special Hello to: my cousin “J” who is coming my way and to my sister – got your email ….. talk soon.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day……

Good Morning and Welcome to Wednesday the 5th day of November, 2014.

I am back after being sick for the past couple of days.

So great to be feeling better.

I had a surprise phone call from my sister last night letting me know that she is coming for a visit this weekend.

Crazy …… now that is such a great surprise.

We have been having such wonderful weather here in Edmonton.

I hope that it will stay for a few more weeks.

Perfect weather for someone to travel.

How are you all doing this morning?

Can you believe that only two more days and we are finished one whole week in November?

I did put my tree up on the weekend and we did get the front of the house decorated which was great.

Next Christmas cards and a bit of baking.

I have to sit down and draw up my Christmas card list and then set to work on drafting my Christmas letter.

This has been an eventful year chalked full of news.

Do you send out cards for the holidays?

I always enjoy receiving a card and letter.

Most especially the letter …..

It always makes me feel wonderful and warm inside….

I am always grateful that someone took the time to write up a letter and pick up a stamp and mail it.

Now that all takes time and how great for us that people do this.

I wished that people sent more letters.

How about this holiday season ….. even if you have never sent a card and letter ….. that you do it.

You will make someone so happy.

Give it a whirl ……. you never know ….. you might like it and keep up the tradition.

Thank you.

Special Hello to: my sister …..

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day…..

Good Morning and Welcome to Saturday the 26th day of April, 2014.

Well I slept through the night …… woke up to the phone ringing and no one on the other end @ 7:30.

Those calls always scare me ….. because normally they do not bring good tidings and joy.

Unless perhaps a dear friend or loved one won the lottery and could not wait to tell you.

Now that is a thought.

Oh well, I did fall back to sleep and I had a great sleep.

It was nice to wake up at first to the sunshine …. clear blue skies ….. alas something was missing.

Ah, it is my Alvin ….. he slept over at his sister’s because I worked last night.

If he had been home we would have been up at 5:00 a.m. …….

But there is something to be said for waking and get up early …… the early bird catches the stone …..

I think that is it but does that make sense.

Why would a bird want to catch a stone?

Maybe bird seed.

Oh, I just remembered it is the early bird catches the worm …. ha ha …. how silly am I?

Anyway  …. it is a lovely morning and I have the window open and the fresh air feels amazing.

My Alvin will be home soon and we will resume our life.

It will be a great day for a nice long walk.

It is funny how we get so used to a routine ……

Sometimes so much so that when it has been interrupted we feel a bit of stress.

Well I am okay …. just gathering up laundry and writing my blog.

I love to write in the mornings …. most especially ….. I will say that my greatest inspirations come just after I get comfy in bed.

A million times I have just snuggled in for a good night’s sleep and I have this great thought …. great story line ….. a poem …..

Most times I do get up and jot some notes.

Then there are times that I do not …. I keep thinking I will remember this thought when I get up.

I repeat it over and over.

Guess what when I wake up ….. it is gone or most of it ….. oh well.

So on this lovely Saturday I hope that you are enjoying this very moment whether by yourself or surrounded by loved one(s).

Happy Saturday.

Special Hello to: all those early birds ….. just catching all those “worms.”

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day…..

Good Morning and Welcome to Saturday the 9th day of November, 2013

It is overcast with light cracking behind the clouds that are dropping a find snow upon us.

It is mild outside and I am very grateful.

Well it is Saturday.

YAY, I always love Saturdays.

Alvin slept over at his sister’s last night while I was at work.

So in a few minutes I will go and pick them up as we girls want to do some work on our jewellery business.

Wow, one week into November already …. where does the time go.

Same place as last month, I figure.  Slight snicker!

Also I will have company as my nephew will be stopping by on his way through to work in B.C.

YAY, always love company especially when they are here for the night.

Also nice to have someone other than me and Alvin in the house.

As I look out my office window I see a gaggle of geese forming a somewhat “V” and going west ….  not south.

Maybe they are staying put and heading to a nearby lake.

I hope that you have a great Saturday and are able to spend the day with your loved ones doing the things you love to do.

That’s my day.

Special Hello to: my sister ….. hey sis …. thanks for the call yesterday ….. the words are still tossing about in my brain….

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day….

Good Morning and Welcome to Sunday the 15th day of September 2013.

How are you this Sunday?

Are you ready to begin an adventure?

Are you ready to try something new?

Are you ready to be better?

Are you ready to have faith?

Are you ready to smile at someone that you have not been introduced to?

Are you ready to give something to someone unexpectedly?

Are you ready to live your life like you have never lived it before?

Well today is the day!

Let’s get out there and truly live our lives?

Be the best person you can be?

Do the best at every thing that comes your way.

Take a chance.

Be brave …..

Send an email or make a phone call to someone you haven’t been in contact for awhile.

GO out into your neighbourhood or to a park and pick up any miscellaneous trash.

Swing by a senior’s home and check with reception and see who has not had a visitor recently and drop by.

Take a cup of coffee to a friend.

Go to a hospital and see about volunteering.

Go to an animal shelter and see about volunteering.

Go through your closet and give clothing, coats, shoes that you no longer need to a goodwill centre or a shelter.

Maybe start a coat drive before winter starts to give to those less fortunate.

Volunteer at a school or church.

Just simply do something nice for someone.

It doesn’t take a million dollars to make a difference to someone –  just a bit of time.

We can all make a difference…..

DO ONE RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS TODAY.

Let us start a revolution of KINDNESS and UNDERSTANDING … of MAKING A DIFFERENCE and of HELPING OUR FELLOW MAN.

Let us be kind to all living creatures big and small.

I hope that you will come on this journey with me.

Let me know how you are and what you are doing to make a difference.

Special Hello today to all those people who constantly make a difference in the lives of others.

Always and Forever, Carol and Alvin
