2021

Good Morning ALL! How are you this great Thursday morning? Alvin and I are doing great after a FANTASTIC night sleep. The sky is overcast and it is windy. The wind seems as though it is here to stay.

I finally downloaded my photos from Tuesday night. The flower shots were all taken during a crazy strong wind. Some photos were so blurry that I had to delete them and reshoot them. I love the vibrancy of my beautiful flowers and the green plant at the end of the first row is a PEPPER PLANT. I can hardly wait to see peppers forming. It will be a surprise as to what colour they will be. How exciting. I also threw in some photos of a couple of selfies that I was trying to take for a Fifth Avenue Jewelry Jewelry post and well, the most important subjects were Alvin and the necklace. I took those photos Wednesday late afternoon and the ones of Mr. Alvin laying on his bed were taken Wednesday morning after he wanted to play with his Teddy Bear. Which we did. So cute.

We had two lovely walks yesterday. At lunch time we met a dog named Wilson. I love that name for a doggie. Not much is new with me and Alvin. Father’s Day is coming up for all those Dads out there.

I hope that you enjoy the photos as much as I love the subjects of the photos. Flowers are a passion for me. I love their beauty, various colours and shapes and scents. They just make me feel like a billion dollars. Another passion in my life is my four-legged buddy. I will admit that sometimes I do have less patience than I should but I do try as we continue to muddle through this life of ours together.

Wishing you a wonderful Thursday. Maybe you are doing something special today? Just for you! I hope so. You deserve to take some time and do something just for YOU. You, rock. Remember that! We take ourselves for granted sometimes.

Continuing to go through this life with kindness, respect, compassion, patience, love and gratitude and thoughtfulness.

Always, Love Carol & Alvin

Second Half of the NEW YEAR

Good Sunday Morning,

The house is so quiet this morning without Alvin here.

We had a great time yesterday.

The wind was blowing so we decided to take the photos in my backyard.

Starting with my daughter, son-in-law and pups Aspen and Milo.

Just so you can visualize these are their pups.

Aspen is the yellow lab/shepherd cross and Milo is the pomeranian/chihuahua mix.

Not sure when this photo was taken.

I believe it is Alvin’s bum showing near the back door.

Aspen was good for about a hand full of photos before she had had enough.

Milo well he was in and out of the photos like a jumping bean.

But I managed to snap some quite good photos for them.

Aspen was laying on the main floor and the rest of the family sat on the edge of the deck.

The photo had my daughter, son-in-law and Milo in the foreground, close up and Miss Aspen in the background.

It was a cool shot and they were happy.

The whole family was in the photos.

That is all that counts.

She was happy just laying there.

Then came photos with me and Alvin.

My daughter ever the professional was moving flower pots about and positioning us to get some good photos for our annual shot.

I would say that my patience is not as good as it used to be.

She took some this way and that and I checked them as we went.

Found some ones I like and then it was over.

I just wanted to make sure that there was one worthy of placing in with my Christmas cards and there was.

So we had all of the photos done about fifteen minutes before supper arrived.

We had a TACO feast.

I do not remember where they ordered it from.

But it was very good.

After supper was over we had the “birthday cake from scratch.”

I would have to say it was not my best cake but it was edible.

Not the favourite one as the results came in.

It was more like a coffee cake, more dense than fluffy.

My daughter said it would be good with berries.

Ever the diplomat.

We had a great birthday party despite the less than perfect cake.

I guess one out of 20 isn’t bad.

Lots of laughter.

Good food and okay cake.

When the party was over they gathered up their things including Mr. Alvin and were on their way.

About mid afternoon they had a grocery order delivered from COSTCO.

This is cool.

COSTCO hires this company and they hire people to in essence be personal shoppers.

I don’t know how the billing works but that does not matter.

The shoppers take the list and pick up the items.

If the items are not in stock – they text the customer and see what can be substituted or not.

When a white SUV pulled up in front of my house about 3:00 p.m. – I did not realize at first that it was the delivery.

I did not realize about the personal shoppers and that they used their own vehicle(s).

The couple brought out the boxes of the order.

We had a short conversation.

They were both out of work so this was helping them pay the bills.

What a great idea.

Who knew?

As I started to pick up a box, the woman said can you please wait as I want to take a photo.

I gather they send the photo to the customer (I explained my daughter had the groceries delivered here as they were coming over later).

They were really nice.

I carried the groceries into the house.

Went through and put the items into the fridge and freezer that needed to be put away.

Texted my daughter and advised that they were here and items put away accordingly.

She already knew.

She gave them a pretty generous tip, $30.00.

What a great girl I have ….. she said it was well worth not having to go to COSTCO.

Well time to go and put on the coffee.

Oh, when we were packing up the car to leave.

The items in the fridge I had momentarily taken out and then it seemed like it was going to be a few minutes longer, so I put them back into the fridge.

There was so much to go into the car, groceries, three dogs, two humans and Alvin’s stuff…… some special arranging had to be done.

I forgot the items that I had placed back into the fridge.

My daughter said that she would come back today or tomorrow.

One more story from last night.

Earlier I had texted one of my friends to see if she had any of the COSTCO popcorn as I was having a craving for some and thought that later in the evening I might watch a movie.

When the house was quiet.

She texted to say “yes of course.”

So after everyone left, I texted to see if I could go over.

At this time, my friend and her husband had stepped out for a few minutes leaving their 12 year old daughter at home.

She said to call out when I arrived and she would bring my popcorn to the door.

So that is what I did.

Madeline came to the door.

She is getting so grown up.

I cannot believe she is 12 …. seems like yesterday she was 6.

She gave me a bag with popcorn (not one bag, of course).

We spoke for a few minutes and I told her that if she was feeling lonely she was welcome to come and hang out with me as Alvin was gone and I was alone.

She likes Alvin but is a bit nervous around dogs due to an incident with other dogs a few years ago.

Wasn’t even five minutes later and the doorbell rang ….

I asked who it was and I heard a little voice ……

Opening the door there she was ….. invited her into the house.

I let her pick a movie as I was rewatching “It’s Complicated.”

Thinking that might not be appropriate.

She picked MEG (the one about the prehistoric shark).

I had seen it before and she said she has watched it several times.

I got us something to drink and we started to watch the movie.

It was nice having human company to chat with ……

Her Mum texted her just over one hour later and then she was off home.

I watched out the window and saw that her Mum had met her halfway.

I should have walked her home.

Of course, I did not think of that.

My daughter is 40 and not 12.

The thought did not enter my head.

I do miss/did miss Alvin ….

Time to get going here.

The sun is starting to shine, no longer overcast.

Take care today and be safe.

I hope that you are having a great day.

Living our lives with kindness and respect.

Living … One day at a time.

Good Morning, partial overcast sky this morning.

I can see the sun on the horizon.

We had some rain last night.

A bit on the slippery side out there this morning or at least it was on the deck and the grass.

Well Alvin and I had a great Saturday.

His sister/my daughter arrived after dropping her car off to be winterized at their dealership.

We consumed “massive” amounts of pancakes (not really but it sounded good).

My friend had given me a can of maple syrup from Quebec so it was opened to use.

MMM, so good.

Happy Anniversary gift and card for my kids.I d

After breakfast, we decided it was a good opportunity to go and photograph me and Alvin for our Christmas photos.

We always take them in the fall.

Earlier in the morning I decided might be a good idea to shower and wash my hair and put on some makeup.

Paid off.

So after a few minutes of figuring out what would be good to wear and careful not to be similar to last years colours; we were off.

Jeans and a purple sweater and tank top.

Alvin wore his usual “black and white tux.”

Always so formal that guy.

We spent less time than usual snapping a few photos and for the first time using her iPhone camera.

I was happy with my hair until there was a breeze and then it was out the window.

We/I sat on rocks by the water (not that close), on the little bridge and standing.

At the end of slightly more than 30 minutes; we had some shots that were worthy of our “10th Year Photo.”

Cannot believe ten years already.

The shortest photo shoot and with a phone camera.

Who would have ever thought …. not having to lug a big camera around.

Nice for my daughter.

After returning home after the photo shoot, my son-in-law called an UBER for us (cause he has the APP).

I quickly changed into something less dressy.

Gave Mr. Alvin a treat.

Shortly thereafter we were on our way.

My daughter had heard about this Thrift Outlet store which is on the premise as the Recycle place.

All the items whether household or clothing or books whatever are purchased by weight.

We found a few things but it was so busy …. I am no longer happy in crowds.

After leaving there we went to the Thrift Store not far away.

It is new and looks like a Winner’s type store.

In fact, set up much the same.

Everything looks like new or close.

Needless to say we, mainly me found several items that I ended up purchasing.

Some items to hang on the wall, some small Christmas tins to put gifts in as wrapping and PJ’s.

I washed the clothing items right away …. love the pj’s.

Also found a white handmade blanket which will be washed this morning.

It is so pretty, no stains and perfect.

Returned home, sorted the purchases and my daughter was on her way.

I decided we would go for another walk as it was so beautiful out.

We had a great walk.

After returning home made supper and cleaned up.

I did another couple loads of laundry.

Today is finishing the laundry, hair cut and bath for the boy and baking of chocolate chip cookies for the 5th Avenue Jewelry party next Saturday evening.

It is finally light out so one can see everything clearly.

Have to decide if I will rake the leaves for the 4th time …. my tree is bare.

I hope that you all have an awesome day.

Thus far our weekend has been amazing.

Happy Sunday to you.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Monday the 19th day of November, 2018.

Alvin is laying on his blue blanket beside me as I write this blog.

The house is quiet except for the click clack on the keys and our breathing.

I can hear neighbours rustling outside as they scrape the frost off their vehicle’s windshield.

Temperatures still quite mild for this time of year.

To be +6 or so today which is so nice.

Last night when we went for a walk it was raining.

As we left the house we saw one of our neighbours and chatted while we walked.

She is one of Alvin’s favourite people.

It was not a cold rain but was not raining especially hard so we walked to the park and home.

Not far but at least a bit of exercise for both of us.

We have some snow on the lawns and decks and on the extreme side of the streets.

It will likely be a bit icy this morning after raining yesterday and below freezing temperatures overnight.

Feels like a morning to share some photos from previous winters:

My daughter, Alvin and I went on this photo adventure on Saturday. It was minus 30. We got some “cool” shots. Alvin thought it was a real deer….. grr

One of the first winters in Edmonton – so much snow.

So happy to see his guy out and about …..

A few years back – so much snow.  No place to put the snow.

First snowman me and my sister made since we were kids ….. (2009)

In flight ….. gotcha

Well here we are once again.

Time to leave for work.

I hope that you have an awesome day.

Be kind to yourself.

Take that walk.

Smile in the mirror at yourself and there will be a smile returned.

Happy Monday.

Special Hello to: my sister ….

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Sunday the 18th day of September, 2016.

Overcast and windy but not raining.

The sky is beginning to clear to the north so hopefully by this afternoon the windy is calm, sunny with cloudy skies for the photo shoot.

I am so excited to be going to the Devonian Gardens, I hear they are beautiful.

Some of the earlier flowers will have gone on but the later ones should be gorgeous.

The colours of the trees and such.

I will take some photos to post ….

So exciting.

I just checked back to my blog from around this date last year and it had been raining as well.

Looks like pretty much the same weather for this weekend.

Alvin and I managed to get our walk in last night before it started to rain.

On our way home we saw one of our neighbours sitting on her doorstep (they had just got home from a walk) so we went to say hello.

Ended up visiting for awhile.

It was nice.

The overhang on her step kept us dry when a couple of times it started to rain (only sprinkled).

I hope that you all had a good weekend.

I am still debating about whether to leave the patio furniture out or not.

I guess the cushions are wet from the rain so it will not happen until they dry.

Will have to consult the blog from last year to see what the upcoming weather was like last year.

I can hear the geese honking as they pass over head.

Still cloudy from the south view (from my office window).

Well I smell coffee in my near future (as soon as I make some).

Grab the laundry from the basement that was hung to dry.

Empty the dishwasher and put away the tupperware that was air drying.

Just a few small things before getting ready for the photo shoot.

So excited for my day trip.

Only wished that Alvin could go but alas he has to stay at home.

Will check and see if my neighbour can pop in to say hi.

Oh well, he will be fine I just do not like to leave him on the weekends for any amount of time.

Fingers crossed that the wind dies down ….. it is very windy right now.

Special Hello to: all those people who are doing something new today.

Always, Carol and Alvin
