The New YEAR 2022

Good Morning and Welcome to Sunday, March 13, 2022! How are you this morning? Alvin and I are well. Adapting to this recent time change. Spring FALL and all of that! My clocks in the house all show the previous time and my phone tells me that it is 9:30 a.m. We were up according to my phone at 5:30 which was 4:30 (until we get used to the difference, I am always converting). So Alvin had his glucosamine chew, his breakfast and went outside. Then we were snuggling on the sofa for a couple of hours. It was 7:30 when we next awoke and it just did not feel like time to get up so we came upstairs, I made the bed and then we laid down and covered up with the blanket from the foot of the bed. For the longest time I just laid there and looked out the window at the sky and the street lamp. Alvin snuggled in and fell asleep. It was so nice. Relaxing. I know yes we should have got up and stayed up. But we do not have anywhere to go and although there is always something to do around the house, I just felt like staying in bed snuggling with my favourite guy “Alvin.” So that is how we started our first day of the spring forward, clock changing time.

The sky is slightly overcast and I think that Mother Nature still thinks that it is 8:30 not 9:30. I do. Alvin does. I wished that our clocks would stay the same all of the time. Changing them is a pain and takes our minds and bodies at least 2-3 weeks to adjust. Now we are losing an hour. But perhaps that means that we are one hour closer to spring. This next day and week to follow are supposed to be all plus temperatures so I hope that is the case. Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, I have to go to the office, which honestly I am not looking forward to, in the least. Not in the least. I would be okay with going to do our mail outs as we have had to do them for the past two years but for an all staff meeting, team building and such, not really! Any person (not just from my work) that I have communicated in the last while whether in person or by text or on the phone, they all say the same thing – “they love working from home and have no desire to go back to the office.” The world has been talking about working from home since the 1970/1980’s and it took a pandemic to lead us to this place. Perhaps it is time to rethink the whole work environment. If people can successfully do their jobs from home and want to work from home, let them work from home. I get the social aspect but seriously work is work. I do not go to work for the social part of it, I go to work to do a job and get paid for said job so that I can pay for the bills. I have friends and family for my social needs. Somewhere along the way – people got thinking that because we spend so much of our waking hours at work that we needed to make time to be social. Perhaps I am sounding like an old shoe but really I like my coworkers but I do not need to see them. Just me. Well how did I just go from time change to going to the office for two days this week. I do know that it makes me anxious just thinking about it. I am concerned for Alvin, too. He will have someone checking on him but it is not the same.

Off the above topic and onto something else. With spring right around the corner, I was thinking of the traditional “spring cleaning.” Have you started cleaning closets, basements, pantries, kitchen cupboards and drawers? I have done a bit but the one thing that I was thinking of is the “spice pantry.” I have a built in pantry that houses spices, Alvin’s food and dishes and odds and ends. I also have a cabinet that I got when we renovated the old work office and they were selling off office furniture. The cabinet is great, heavy duty and well made. It houses dry goods, small appliances etc. I clean it on a regular basis. The other pantry I need to reorganize and go through the SPICES. I think most of us hang onto spices for way too long – definitely long after we should. A lot of time we purchase spices for one dish and then never use them again or we but too much or we just forget to use them. I am going to go through mine and only keep the ones that I know that I should. It is likely a good idea to only keep what you are going to use. I don’t think it is necessary for one person to have 50-70 different spices. I am guessing on the amount that I have but I do have a great many. Perhaps this spring clean up should involved only keeping things that you at least use once a year or more often. How many of you have things that you are keeping for sentimental reasons? Raise your hands! Mine is up? I know that I have so much “stuff” and I know for a fact that my one and only daughter has no desire to keep my stuff. Oh, there might be the odd little item that she may be interested but they downsized and bought a smaller house so why would she take my stuff. So this spring I am going to get a lot more strict in my what to keep policy. If someone likes an item and I do not use it, it is going to have a new home. I no longer find the need to bring much other than food into the house. One thought for so many people, stop online shopping! I think it is addictive. Everyday I see delivery trucks on my street, yes every single day of the every week. Think of all of the packing that ends up in the landfills. Think of all the crap cause really no one really needs all of that stuff. We don’t. I don’t and you don’t. Tough love. Yup. We have to face facts that we are consuming ourselves to the end, yes I mean “consuming.” Not to rain on your parade and certainly I am not trying to tell you how to live your life but we need to seriously think about our buying practices. Especially with the costs of everything on the rise daily. So many people can barely afford to buy good food and pay for the utilities much less ordering daily from Amazon. Okay, I am done. That totally went from spring cleaning off the rails to buying practices. But it all ties in together. Just think about how much you consume. Do you really need 20 pairs of jeans? Do you need three different coffee pots? Do you need another throw pillow? Did you need to replace your living room furniture? Just because you can do something does not mean that you should. I hope that this has given food for thought, I know it has for me. Although I do not currently buy a lot of things other than food and that is the honest truth, at one time, I was one of those over the top consumers. We did not have online shopping at the time but I went to the stores and the shopping channel and bought more than I really needed and then ended up in financial distress. So there are multiple reasons for my “rant” this morning.

I hope that we all think carefully about our choices. What do we “need” versus what we “want.”

Please have an awesome Sunday. Thinking about our fellow human beings in Ukraine and Russia. Just trying to stay alive in a war that they did not choose. I hope that it the war is over today. Peace to all.

Continuing to live this life with kindness, respect, compassion, patience, love, laughter, understanding, gratitude, focus and possibilities.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Time for a refreshing shower. Get rid of the cobwebs and off the rant track. Honestly I am a happy person. One would not think that from the above post. Sometimes we just have to say what is on our minds. I apologize if I have offended anyone, that was not my intent. Just to bring my thoughts to light.

Living … One day at a time.

Hello,

Once again sky is overcast with rain clouds.

Raining off and on this morning.

Everything is a beautiful lush KELLY GREEN, my favourite colour and shade.

I do love a LIME GREEN, as well.

Segway into the first photo.

I have a painting project for this summer.

I am painting my office, the very space that I am currently sitting at typing these words.

I am looking at different hues of the tissue paper shown on top of the huge bulletin boards that my daughter made for me two almost three Christmases ago.

Better late than never.

Poor Mr. Alvin and his red raincoat.

It was spitting when we were planning to go on our walk with our friend P.

After receiving a great idea from my daughter.

I put the raincoat onto Alvin first and then harness on top which worked perfectly.

As you can see from the photos; he, Alvin was less than enthusiastic about the red covering.

He stood perfectly still.

In fact before I put it on … he had ran upstairs and I followed in hot pursuit.

Placing the jacket on and his harness upstairs.

I ended up carrying him downstairs as he just could not figure out how to manoeuvre with his new jacket on.

It took a few minutes and some careful steps before he just walked along.

Outside I had to help him down the steps as well.

Made me giggle but not to loud ….

Flowers …. doing well with all of the rain.

Then playing hide and seek with Mr. Humphrey on the deck.

He joined us for a couple of hours after our walk.

He got a shave for summer.

Isn’t he so cute.

He loves having his photo taken, can you tell?

Look at that face.

Love him all curled up on the chair.

Beside the blanket.

Making a pillow from the cone.

Well getting on time to leave for work.

Last day my carpool is driving for a couple of weeks as she is going camping.

That means one thing for me ….. BUS.

Argh …. oh well, not that bad.

I wish you a great day.

Stay warm and dry.

Be kind and respectful …. remember you first and then others.

It always works that way.

If you are good to you – you will be good to others.

Really you will.

Happy Tuesday …. almost wrote Wednesday.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Saturday the 31st day of March, 2018.

The last day of March 2018.

Today is the birthday of a dear friend of mine from Saskatchewan “P.”

Wishing my friend the most wonderful birthday.

We had a guest for a sleepover last night.

Master Teddy.

His Momma dropped him off about 7:15 p.m. last night and she also stayed for a little visit.

Teddy’s Mom also brought both Alvin and Teddy this huge chew treat.

Somehow during that few minutes afterward Alvin was chewing on one and Teddy had none.

We looked all over the main floor and nothing.

Could it be that Mr. Alvin ate the huge treat in that short of time.

We looked under the sofa and chairs.

Under the pillows and throw blankets.

In the corners and everywhere.

Not to be found.

After our investigation it was plain to see that Alvin had been the culprit.

Eating most of both of the treats.

We visited for a few more minutes and then it was just me and the boys.

Deciding that Teddy should have some of the last remaining treat, after all it was his.

I managed to wrangle what was left of the second one and cut a piece off for Teddy.

Alvin had no problem sharing his new bed with Teddy.

Nice to see that someone loves the new bed.

Both black and white.

On older and one younger.

Both cuteness galore.

Having fun with these guys.

Alvin is learning to share ( a little ).

You never know what will happen at night time.

Teddy has a cute little black & white blanket and a stuff animal “Eyore”  (possibly not correct spelling).

Alvin thought that he should have it so I had to wrestle it away from him a few times.

While I was reading the boys started to get comfortable.

Alvin slept near the pillow at the head of the bed close to me.

Teddy had his blanket, Eyore and was by my legs.

I find it uncomfortable to sleep in one spot for the whole night.

I usually go from one side to the other after I have finished reading.

At one point the little one was sleeping in between my legs as I lay on my side.

But both settled in and both managed to snuggle close to me.

Nice to feel “wanted.”

Teddy ended up on the outside side of the bed next to me with Alvin beside me at the top of the bed.

It is always interesting to see what Alvin will do and he has not really surprised me.

He is a Momma’s boy.

Alvin as usual was up early but Teddy would have slept (given the opportunity).

At this time Teddy is laying on our bed chewing on a treat and Alvin has his treat on the blanket in my office.

He keeps going back and forth.

He really wants the treat that Teddy has but after being scolded earlier for attempting to take the treat from him, he has listened.

Imagine that.

Alvin listening.

Well time to go and get dressed and have some coffee.

We are enjoying this sleepover.

Later my daughter and family are coming over for a visit and for supper.

Will be interesting to see FOUR puppies …..

Funny …. Alvin is laying in the doorway to the bedroom watching Teddy.

What a guy.

Well I must get going here.

I hope that you enjoy the photos.

Happy Saturday.

Special Hello to: my friend “P” back in Saskatchewan enjoying a birthday.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Friday the 5th day of January, 2018.

YAY, it is the last day of the work week and then the weekend begins.

So excited for the weekend.

We are expecting a beautiful weekend weather wise so that means good for our walks.

Nice to be able to go out during the day light hours.

Perhaps Alvin won’t have such aversion to walking.

Who knows.

Do you ever dream about people from your past but in different circumstances?

Odd circumstances.

Very odd.

Anyway that was last night’s dreams.

Cool but strange, very strange.

Cannot mention names to protect the innocent, of course.

Just food for thought, dreaming??

My favourite part of our morning routine is our snuggling on the sofa.

Most comfortable place to “s nap”  (snuggling while napping).

I love it when Alvin stands up and then moves to the pillow and then drops his body with his head landing on the pillow right beside mine.

He never misses.

He is good at cuddling.

Well here we go.

Time to leave again.

I wish you a wonderful day filled with kindness and respect.

Special Hello to: my friend “I” who lives in Sweden.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Tuesday the 21st day of November, 2017.

Brr, it is so COLD outside this morning.

Me poor little Alvin had to make two attempts at leaving the house before he was successful.

Please make sure when you let you little pups outside in this COLD weather that you are watching them and make sure they do their business and get back inside.

Sometimes they will get sidetracked and get frost bite before realizing they are freezing.

Keep track of the time.

I stand by the back door and watch him.

They are precious our fur babies so please take good care of them.

They are the ones who can help keep us heart healthy and who love us unconditionally.

On these COLD mornings – I will say that I find it difficult to get my butt out of bed or off the sofa.

I set the timer twice this morning before getting off the sofa.

I was so comfy snuggled under our red warm blanket with me Alvin.

He even lays his head on the pillow beside me.

How would one ever want to get up to go outside.

ARGH.

Okay….time to get this show on the road.

Please if you are living where it is COLD, dress appropriately.

If you do not have a warm enough coat – dress in layers.

Layers are always good.

Couple layers of warm socks – make sure that they are not tight fitting – you always want to be able to wiggle your toes.

Time to fly.

Have a great Tuesday.

Special Hello to: my sister …..

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Tuesday the 6th day of June, 2017.

Here we are one day closer to the official first day of summer.

This morning the sun is shining brightly in the beautiful blue sky.

The birds are singing and Alvin enjoyed a few minutes on the deck just taking it all in.

Oh my boy.

Likes to soak in the moment.

I must say that one of my most favourite times each day is the time that we snuggle on the sofa before getting up to stay up.

I have this rectangular pillow from IKEA that is just long enough for my head, Alvin’s head and a bit of space.

When I lay down on the pillow and throw a blanket over me ….. once Mr. Alvin has done his thing ……

He plunks himself down and his head hits right on the pillow beside me.

He really does with some force plunk himself down.

He snuggles right in and it is the best start to my day …..

We have a bit of a snooze before getting up to start the day.

Most every day for the past couple of weeks we have been walking with our friends “S” and “P.”

S is my neighbour whose dog was attacked and killed by an off leash dog in an on leash park.

So we have been walking with S and her dog Presley.

I get such a kick out of Presley ….. he came running down the sidewalk to meet us last night and when he arrived …..

He sniffed, growled, nipped at Alvin, and then went in another direction.

Both the dogs are comfortable around each.

If Presley nips Alvin ….. Alvin just walks away.

I wished that I always had his patience and grace.

Now if food was involved ….. that may go out the window.

But I am proud of Alvin for taking higher ground to give the little guy some space and time to grieve the loss of his beloved friend.

While we enjoyed a great walk last night …. our friend “P” was out in her amazing garden.

She called us over and we walked away with snapdragons for both of us girls and I got a tomato plant.

We are so lucky.

All of the plants that my friend “P” has given me are doing great…… best gardener.

Okay time to hit the road.

Mr. Alvin needs to head outside one last time.

Happy Tuesday.

Enjoy the sunshine.

Be safe.

Spread kindness ….. it is the only way.

Special Hello to: my friend “V” who has yet another business ….. so busy ….. not sure how she does it.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day…….

Good Morning and Welcome to Sunday the 19th day of March, 2017.

The sun was shining in through my kitchen windows this morning.

I still have the decorations from my daughter’s birthday party hanging in the window and they are BUTTERFLIES.

They are so pretty I decided to leave them up for awhile.

They were used originally for a store display.

Lucky me.

So pretty …… they are well made and will last for years.

We were up early as usual and then before heading back to the sofa I turned on the dryer to fluff up the load that I had left in the dryer from last night and put in the last of the two loads to wash.

Always grabbed all of the clothes that were drying and brought them upstairs to be put away.

I put away the dishes that were air drying in the sink.

Pulled out my baking dishes as I plan to bake banana muffins this afternoon after my morning coffee party.

Then we hit the sofa.

I must say that one of my most favourite moments in time is when Alvin and I snuggle on the sofa in the morning before getting up to stay.

We have this pillow from IKEA that is rectangular on the sofa.

I lay it flat and place my head at one end and then Alvin shuffles around before laying his head next to mine.

Placing our favourite red blanket over top of us and with my arm over his body we nap for a little longer.

It is truly one of my favourite moments in time.

What a wonderful way to begin the day.

Usually after I get up he moves over to my spot and I cover him up.

He lays there while I write in my gratitude journal and once I have breakfast including the always “banana” – he will leave the sofa and come to the table.

We always eat breakfast at the table …… he has his food much earlier but we always share a banana.

His fav.

Last night it was raining …. yes, raining in March and windy.

This morning we woke up to snow.

Actually I knew it had snowed because I looked out the window at 2:30 a.m. (bathroom break).

While writing in my journal this morning – Alvin got up to go outside.

I decided that I would grab my coat and boots and shovel off the deck …..

So time to hit the shower as I have a coffee date with my girls this morning.

Not my turn to host.

I will be walking most carefully this morning.

Feels quite warm out so it should melt today.

Sky is clear so that is a good sign.

Gotta run.

Also want to make coffee for my neighbour before I leave for coffee.

Have an awesome day.

Special Hello to: my sister …. SKYPE at 6:30 p.m. ????  If different time call me, please.

Always, Carol and Alvin

P.S.  Mr. Alvin looks so good in his new hair cut and feels so soft after the bath.  The longer is hair the more course it is ….

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Sunday the 22nd day of January, 2017.

Another overcast foggy morning.

The sky looks like a giant snowbank.

Amazing how the sun from its’ distance can actually make it seem light.

Alvin and I are having a great weekend.

Yesterday we took the long way to his vet appointment and enjoyed the walk.

He had his pedicure done and his Momma bought him some food and toothpaste.

We spent the day doing laundry (actually I spent the day doing laundry).

Alvin is no help unless he picks up a stray sock ….. (usually it is because he pulled it from the laundry basket).

Just did odds and ends of things.

I even worked on some more jewellery.

We had a change of plans for today but that is okay because I have lots around here to do.

The new Steeped Tea Catalogues arrived a couple of days ago so I see label writing in my near future.

I love Sundays …..

We can do whatever we choose.

What are you doing on this Sunday?

I am just going to do some odd jobs as my youngest brother is calling this afternoon to catch up.

Time passes so quickly that sometimes we forget or put off conversations with loved ones (family and friends).

So today is talking to my youngest brother day and I am excited.

Even though this is late …. have to get this show on the road.

We were up at 5:00 a.m. (you know “The Alvin” and his internal food clock”); we went back bed until 8:00 a.m. …..

Once downstairs we ended up on the sofa.

I love laying on the sofa because Mr. Alvin just plunks himself down beside me on the pillow.

We just laid there and of course, I fell back to sleep and then it was 9:30 or so.

What a lazy Sunday morning ….. which is okay.

Have a great Sunday everyone.

Special Hello to: my siblings ….. Hello …..

Always, Carol and Alvin
