2021

Good Morning ALL. How are you today? The sun is shining bright here in Edmonton. Alvin and I are finding our way through all of this. He is doing very well. Even climbed upstairs with the cone on a couple of times. He does not like the cone on so whenever I have 100% time to devote to him which has been pretty much always, he can go without the cone on. Today I have to do laundry so he will have to wear the cone for a bit. I just wanted to check with a progress report. I likely won’t be writing my post everyday it will depend. I do plan to go back to work on Monday which I am so grateful is from my kitchen. At least I can stop when he needs me but he will have to wear the cone as I won’t have my eyes on him all of the time. His incision is so long, I had no idea just how long it would be and in a couple of weeks when everything has returned to normal, I will post some photos and more details. Just wanted to check in and make sure that you all are okay and to give an update on Mr. Alvin. He has definitely been a trooper. He was a bit disappointed when I had some raw carrots with my pizza last night. I made sure that there are no bananas around as those were his favourite and if it means giving them up I will do so. Time to head on downstairs.

Oh, he is healing well. Eating and drinking and all of that.

We are both doing well. Thank you to all of our family and friends for their love and support. Special thank you to Amanda and Steven.

The boy is beginning to get frustrated so better get going as the cone has to stay on and I have to start laundry. He might have to go outside as well.

Living with kindness, respect, compassion and patience.

Always, Carol & Alvin

2021

Good Morning ALL. How are you doing today, this morning? It is still morning. The sunrise is beautiful and the sky is clear. We should have a sunny day ahead. We were up and down this morning so I am off to a little late of a start. I think that perhaps Mr. Alvin has another ear infection or at the very least his paws are bothering him. He has been thrashing his head about and usually that means his ears are bothering him. I am congested so cannot smell anything out of the ordinary. Poor boy. I have to get the flashlight out and look inside his ears as I cannot see properly without that extra beam of light. I hope that it is not an infection. He seems to be prone to them. Fingers crossed. My head is a bit achy and I am pretty sure that is due to dehydration as I have not drank much water since last night so I am working on a large glass as I write these words. We do not always realize how important keeping hydrated is until things go wrong. Like headaches, dizziness, etc.

So it is once again the weekend. Again, laundry and cleaning the house. We will get out for a walk in the afternoon. I have changed the bedding on our bed already so at least I feel like I have done something. OMG, why do I always feel guilty about not getting up at the crack of dawn? Not like there is anyone else in the household to complain or place guilt upon me. Human nature, in part, I suppose. Most of that guilt is always self imposed as I put so much pressure on myself to be almost “super human, a superwoman.” One would think at 63 that I would be over that but I guess not. Oh well, every day is a new day and I always try better and part of that is doing better for myself. So to myself – it is okay. Okay to sleep a bit later on the weekends, especially in the winter time when it remains dark later. It is okay not to be “perfect.” Sometimes I think that we should remove that words from our language and from the dictionary.

Work is back to be busy, busy once again and no longer am I caught up on mail. That always adds a bit of stress. But I remain within the acceptable outstanding mail amount so really I should be easier on myself.

Last night my daughter stopped by after work, where she is busy accepting applications for the municipal election to be held in the fall. She brought the package with my new bras and socks. So happy to see her and to have new bras. Mine were beginning to look like they had been dragged around in the mud, lol. Why is it that underwear are the last items of clothing or articles to be replaced? Out of sight out of mind? Anyway I am glad to have some new ones. Last night I was doing a little happy dance. As she said her goodbyes to Alvin, he had that look of panic in his eyes. He always thinks that he has to go with her in the car. What a guy.

Also last night I decided to order pizza for supper. Not sure if that was a great idea or not but I am helping to support a local business and in these times that is important. They always make great pizza.

Well from lack of sleep to lots of work to pizza to new bras, it has been quite the week. But I am always grateful to be working from home, to have the money to order pizza once in awhile, to purchase new bras and for any sleep that I am able to get.

Happy Saturday Everyone. I hope that you have an awesome day. Whoa, the sun just started to SHINE. It is going to be a great day. Time for a quick shower. Also I am chatting with a good friend from Regina as it was her birthday this week and we have to catch up.

Living our lives with kindness, respect and compassion.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Monday the 18th day of March, 2019.

The sun is rising bright in the morning sky.

Today I am taking a vacation day.

So nice to be at home for another day.

We were up at bit later and then slept in a bit.

Whenever cars drive by in the back lane you can hear the crunch of snow and ice.

It is a massive rut back there.

We need some warm, warm days to melt this mess.

Would have been nice if the back lanes and the streets in our neighbourhood would have been plowed/scraped during the winter.

Likely not many were …. now we depend on the warmth of the sun to take away the mess.

Our sidewalk out front went from bare to a massive chunk of ice.

When it melts from the back yard it drains to the front.

Frustrating.

We valiantly scoop the water to the drain but then over night it return and freezes.

Not pretty out there and we try to keep it clean to no avail.

Walks are on the opposite side of the street, thankfully it melts faster and is easier for those neighbours to keep clean.

I have to share some photos from the birthday party yesterday of my grand-pups and the fruit pizza.

Apparently I must have taken the photos of the birthday girl with my tablet as there are none on this camera.

I was certain that I took them with the camera.

Miss Aspen and Milo with Alvin in the background of the above photo to the left.

We had a great visit.

Alvin was so excited when he saw them drive by.

We ran to the back door to watch for them to come in from the garage.

I had to let Alvin outside as he could not contain his excitement.

He waited patiently for the door to open and them to start coming out of the garage.

My son-in-law also commented on the back lane.

We ordered pizza from my new favourite pizza place “Royal Pizza” in the Hamptons.

Best pizza ever.

For dessert “fruit pizza.”

The fruit pizza was heavy ….. lots of fruit on that cookie sheet.

I had a vegetable platter as I figured might be a good idea.

We enjoyed the food and the visit.

Well I have a list of things to do today.

Finish laundry, make a big pot of chilli, make pot of oatmeal for this week and go for a walk.

Will work on putting together some orders for Steeped Tea and NORWEX.

I have one of each.

Just a lovely day to be at home with me Alvin.

I am so grateful to have such great company.

I am grateful to have a wonderful family.

Happy Monday.

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Sunday the 17th day of February, 2019.

This month seems to be passing by in light speed.

Already we are half way through and was it not the 1st day just last week.

WOW, crazy.

As I look out of my office window the sky is a grey-white colour just a tone darker than the snow that is covering the ground and rooftops.

No snow overnight so that is good.

When I shovelled yesterday it was difficult to find a place, a spot to put the snow.

The deck and grassy area in my back yard have SNOWBANKS.

At the front, I am shovelling above my shoulders, which is not easy.

Last night Teddy and his Aunt J arrived about 3:30 p.m. for a visit before having supper with us.

Aunt J brought all of the fixings for a pretty much traditional Mexican taco meal right down to the limes.

It was fantastic.

I realized how much I love refried beans, so good.

Mexicans eat a lot of beans and they are so healthy for us.

We had a great visit and during our conversation I suddenly realized about the wildlife and their struggle for food this winter.

How can they find food when there is so much food.

Some folks are leaving out food for the wildlife.

Thankfully there are some berries on the trees for the birds.

But the pickings are slim.

We do not often think of the wildlife and their struggles between nature and man.

Without wildlife – I doubt we would continue to exist.

We would forever damage the balance, the natural order.

The evening was great.

The boys, Alvin and Teddy had fun.

Mostly just collapsing in each other’s company.

Isn’t that what friends do?

They are good just to be around each other, no fancy conversation or entertainment.

They did have chew treats and there are toys.

About 8:00 p.m. or so they left for home.

We had such a great afternoon/evening.

Great conversation and food.

I showed off some of the Steeped Tea as she loves tea and had heard all about it from her sister, Teddy’s Mom.

I was happy to give her some different teas to try.

The rest of the evening was quiet.

I finished off the few dishes that did not fit or belong in the dishwasher.

We just watched a bit of television before retiring to bed about 10:00 p.m.

Saturday was a great day.

I almost forgot that while I was out shovelling,  one of my neighbours happened to be on her way to her car when she saw me.

She came over and we had a brief chat before coming into the house so she could say hi to Alvin.

Which by the way is doing incredibly well.

My sister called but I will share this story next Saturday as it pertains to her birthday.

Today will be quiet.

Perhaps a bit of laundry and if warm enough we will end out this afternoon for a walk.

Maybe should check the temp this morning before it snows.

Hoping it does not snow.

What a weekend.

Fantastic pizza on Friday night.

Great Mexican food and company on Saturday.

We are only at the half way point.

What will Sunday have in store for us.

No plans but you never know.

Special Hello to: all our friends and family.  We love and appreciate you.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day……

Good Morning and Welcome to Friday the 8th day of August, 2014.

Happy Birthday to my niece-in-law “S” …. wishing you a great Birthday.

It is overcast and cool here in Edmonton on the day before my 57th Birthday.

I had the most wonderful time last night with my friends “K” and “K” from Bath & Body Works.

One of the K’s and I went shopping first ….. my first time in a long while.

I was so fortunate to purchase a beautiful scarf and then found a nice summer dress and they match.

We met the other K at the restaurant FAMOSO ( definitely spelled it incorrectly yesterday ).

OMG, so great … we had pizza and it was amazing.

The service was great ….. staff wonderful.

Even took a photo of us for my memory book ( in case my on-site one fails ).

Then we went and saw the movie “LUCY” and it was great.

My friend “G” had given me a gift card to the theatre with instructions to pay for everyone …… the girls were tickled pink.

How wonderful are the friends that I have ……. they are amazing and thoughtful.

Well we have an additional puppy here ….. looking after Mr. Casey …. a cute little guy.

Elton was just growling – not sure why but has stopped.

So lucky that the four of them get along ……

So on the day before my actual 57th Birthday …. I will say that I am so blessed to be surrounded by the best people on the planet.

I have amazing family and great friends.

The puppies are not so bad either.

Love “me Alvin” …… of course.

I am on cloud 9 ……. better yet cloud 7-7-7- ……..

Well time to go and grab some toast and then take the puppies for a walk.

Oh, this afternoon I was invited to my friend “G’s” house for coffee and another friend “S” will hopefully be there, too.

YAY.

I hope that you are surrounded by amazing people.

Have a wonderful Friday.

Also found out that my dear friend, her daughter (my niece) and grand-daughter (my great niece) are coming to Edmonton on the long weekend.

Special Hello to: Miss Hoda Kotb, Happy 50th Birthday; we share the same birthdate.  How cool is that!

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day…..

Good Morning and Welcome to Thursday the 7th day of August, 2014.

Only two sleeps now until my “57th” Birthday.

I am very excited as today I am meeting two of my co-workers from the store, and we are going for pizza at Famosa’s (hopefully I spelled that correctly) and then to a MOVIE.

The mall being West Edmonton.

I am going early so that I  can look around at the sales.

Usually when I got to the mall it is to go to work.

Last night I had lemonade and a visit with one of my friends and neighbours.

It was so wonderful.

We started out sitting in their backyard on their new swing ….. really nice.

Then when the storm hit we decided to go into the house (good idea).

This has been a great birthday week.

Got some work done around the house, walks with the puppy dogs and spent time with some of my friends.

It is time to go and take Mr Alvin for a walk as it was storming when we were to go last night.

He is patiently looking out the window.

Keeping an eye on the neighbourhood.

He hears some children ……

I hope that you all are having a grand week.

It has been so wonderful being at home.

Being able to set my own schedule.

Cooking for the kids.

Sleeping in.

Writing.

Only one thing missing “SKYING” my family and friends back in Regina.

So will be doing that on the weekend.

I have been enjoying watching the celebratory week on the Today Show for Miss Hoda Kotb.

Do you just love her name?

Very cool.

Okay, time to go.

Have a wonderful day.

Remember …… spend time with friends and family.

These moments shall not pass again.

Special Hello to: my sister C ….. let us SKYPE this weekend.

Always, Carol and Alvin
