Living … One day at a time.

Oh my goodness, this is Christmas Eve morn.

Where did the time go?

I just got home from picking up Humphrey and doing the chores at his house.

In less than one hour my friend G is picking me up to take a last grocery run.

There are always those items that you do not wish to pick up too much in advance.

I just heard a clang in the back and looked out my window to see some lights of a truck – the garbage guys.

Today is the pickup.

I just realized how dark it is in the back lane.

We do not have any lights.

That might be something either the City or our Neighbourhood Association could put in.

At least one here and there.

Dangerous with no light.

Especially when the neighbourhood fees just rose by $25.00 to $175.00 annually per year and add taxes to that figure.

Today is not the day to complain there will be another day to vent that story.

Mid afternoon yesterday my friend P and I went to see the movie CATS.

It was spectacular, fantastic, wonderful and awesome.

The cast was crazy good.

James CordenJudi DenchJason DeruloIdris ElbaJennifer HudsonIan McKellenTaylor SwiftRebel Wilson, and introduces ballerina Francesca Hayward in her first feature-length film role.

It was well done.

The music, the dancing and the singing were fantastic.

We thoroughly enjoyed the movie.

I came home to Alvin and Humphrey.

Had a bite to eat (about 7 p.m.).

Made a double batch of chocolate fudge with walnuts and the honey mustard dip for tomorrow’s dinner.

Did I tell you our menu?

It is unique but every other Christmas we switch it up.

Not everyone likes turkey, I do but not everyone.

Menu:

What I call Chicken Fingers

Honey Mustard Dip (homemade)

Cranberries (homemade)

Mashed/Whipped Potatoes with Boursin Cheese baked in oven

Gravy (not homemade)

Stuffing (not homemade)

Buns (not homemade)

Peas

Corn

Assortment of goodies (all homemade) ranging from my Sugar Cookies, Chocolate Chip cookies and fudge to my friends Banana cake, Ginger cookies, mince tarts, and apple tarts

and every place in between.

Some things made by me and others not.

A good mix.

We will have a hot cheese dip with baguette to snack on as well as veggies, crackers with hummus.

Likely too much to eat.

Well it is getting on here and my friend will be here shortly to pick me up for our shopping trip to Save-On and Costco.

Hopefully we will be there before the masses.

Wishing you a great Christmas.

The kids are dropping off Aspen and Milo about 2:30 p.m. and I will hang out with the pups until they come back for the evening.

Change of plans.

Humphrey will go home before the pups arrive.

Aspen would not like Humphrey.

That would be one scene I would not like to view.

I wish you and your family the most glorious Christmas ….

May you enjoy love, laughter and some good food….

If you are able to include a person(s) who does not have family to spend the holiday with, please do.

No one deserves to be alone at Christmas unless they choose to do so.

I hope the next two days are filled with a special kind of light that will continue to shine all year long.

The light of love and compassion.

The light of kindness and respect.

The light of generosity.

The light of you and me.

Merry Christmas from Carol, Mr. Alvin and Mr. Humphrey.

Me and the Boys.

Always and Forever.

………… After all…..

Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Sunday the 27th day of December, 2015.

I had to check the calendar for the actual day of the week.

My computer shows the calendar date on the bottom so I knew it was the 27th before I knew it was Sunday.

Where has the time gone?

We always seems to ask that question.

I think it is likely the most asked question of all time?

Here we are Christmas for most folks is done.

There are some folks who celebrate Christmas in January.

There are others who celebrate the holidays several times due to family being in different places.

But for me and mine it is over.

The preparations, the excitement and the final act are all done.

It was a great one.

One of my gifts was an “Adult Colouring Book” and Crayola pencil crayons …. I have always loved to colour.

Honestly other than colouring in one of the children’s books and with the wax crayons that I have in the house, I never thought there would be such a thing as an Adult Colouring Book.

There are 60 pencil crayons ….. man would have been great to have had that many as a child.

There are colours that I have not seen before …. so happy to colour the DRAGONFLY and the OWL in my Enchanted Colouring BOOK.

I had been saying that I had wished it had been my idea …. this new old craze.

The first Christmas since moving to Edmonton where we held the celebration somewhere other than at my house.

I truly enjoyed being pampered at my daughter and son-in-law’s new house/home.

We all thought that having the Christmas meal catered was the best thing since “sliced bread.”

At first we debated about the amount as it sat in the small boxed containers but as we started to dish it found it was more than enough.

Perhaps I should reword that …. there was enough of everything but POTATOES, we are used to having about 10 pounds of them…. I think there was about 1 pound mashed.

It was funny…..

Alvin …. well he did start venturing up and down the stairs without being coaxed.

Will have to work on the sleeping thing.

Yesterday I called my siblings and spoke to each one of them.

They all celebrated with family and friends.

It is a good thing that there remain a few days in December.

Just five days until we bring in the New Year.

Five days to think about the past year.

Five days.

Well I hear the shower calling me… for some reason this morning my muscles feel sore.

The shower will loosen them up.

I hope that you have a great Sunday December 27th, 2015.

Can you believe that we are only a few days over four years away from the year 2020 ….

Blows my mind.

So cool…..

Sounds space age …..

Hopefully the human race will work out some things over the next four years, and we will be better caretakers of this oasis we call “Earth.”

Happy Sunday.

See you tomorrow.

Special Hello to: my family and friends all over the planet.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day…..

Good Morning and Welcome to Wednesday the 28th day of August 2013.

It is a great day.  The southern sky from my office window is glowing in purples and pinks with a pale blue background as the reflection from the sunrise passes over.

I just want to say that it is positively and most definitely true that when you give something it comes back to you abundantly.

My brother gave me a crazy amount of things from his garden.  I had one of the crisper compartments in my fridge full of cucumbers.

As I don’t really eat a lot of pickles anymore I have been eating them daily and gave some to my daughter and husband.

But still I had a crisper full of cucumbers.

So one of my neighbour does the juicing and is also a vegetarian so I asked her and she accepted.

So tonight I took over a bag of them.

Then another one of my friends called to say that her sister had given her an abundance of vegetables from her garden and also some crabapples.

So I gratefully accepted them.

When she brought them over I had no idea how much it would be …

A huge bag full of potatoes, yellow beans, carrots, squash and crabapples.

Oh my goodness I hit the lottery …. how wonderful and thoughtful.

So I gave one modestly sized bag and received a huge bag in return.

Anyway, always good to give and then again it is always a pleasure to receive.

Special Hello to: all those gardeners out there …. thank you for the produce.

P.S. thank you to my brother for starting all this and for the absolutely yummy vegetables (potatoes, onions, cucumbers, squash, peas and dill).

By the way my brother’s peas were about four to five inches long.  They were huge.

Always, Carol and Alvin (Alvin was pretty excited about the vegetables, too)   🙂
