My thought for the day……

Good Morning and Welcome to Saturday the 21st of February, 2015.

The sky is partially overcast.

ODE TO THE FALL – THAT ICE

The ground is covered with a crusty blanket of snow.

Underneath is a sheet of ice covering most sidewalks.

I found this out last night when I walked home from the bus stop.

Falling twice and by the grace of my backpack I remained unscathed.

Thankfully only my pride and ego were harmed and only briefly.

It is funny how you can be walking so carefully and those tiny snowflakes so gracefully covering the gleaming patches of ice and then WHOA you are down.

You look around and there is no one there.

You want to cry for a moment and then you do not when you realize that you are unharmed.

Then you breathe a sigh of relief that your body is undamaged.

Then you continue taking those careful steps ….

Almost home I can see the light on my porch ……

Getting a big cocky and then down again….

So not once but twice.

So grateful for the backpack and the extra padding on my body at this time of year.

I decide to walk on the street for the rest of the way and then finally I take those safe steps down my walk ….

I know there is no ice as we removed it the night before …..

I arrive at home ….

I am safe ….

The pups greet me at the door …..

Time for tea and to relax.

I am home ……

Special Hello to: all those folks who must walk home from the bus on icy streets – take care.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day….

Today is Monday, Easter Monday, April the 9th, 2012.

The sun is shining here in Edmonton and the sky is a pretty pale blue.

Our office was closed on Good Friday and also today.

I hope that you had a wonderful Easter weekend.

Today I am going to go out and work on collecting the information for the Census.

I hope to get lots of people still at home.

I guess I should share my experience from Friday.

On the very last home for the day ….. I took a tumble from the step.

Not sure what exactly happened.

All I know is one minute I was looking at my clipboard and putting the pages in order and the next I was lying on the cement.

I landed on my right hand.  My clothes were dirty, the knuckles on my left hand were cut and my pinkie finger on my right hand was cut.

At that point in time, it was more pride than anything that hurt.  So I got up, dusted myself off and continued home.

It wasn’t until much later in the evening that my right hand began to swell up and become very painful.

When I went to bed it was almost unbearable, my pain tolerance is quite high so I knew it was bad.

I did not have any “painkillers” of any sort in my home.

So I sucked it up and tried to get a bit of sleep.

In the morning, I found a sling and rested my arm in it.

By doing that …. it helped.  A bit later my daughter came over and brought me some ADVIL.

After taking a couple of them ….. things were better.

So by time I got up Sunday morning the swelling was gone and I felt so much better.

But I did not do anything on Saturday ….. just had my arm in a sling and laid on the sofa and watched t.v.

Yesterday it felt much better but I figured better not push things.

So today I am all ready to go and work on the Census.  I sure hope that people are home.

So it was a crazy, strange weekend for me.

I did get some rest but not quite in the way that I had imagined.

I think Alvin was happy that I was at home despite no walks.

So that was my Easter weekend.

Oh, I forgot my daughter bought me the most exquisite pink carnations, took me grocery shopping and bought me coffee and we even took a couple of moments to check out a couple of showhomes.

I hope that you had a great Easter weekend ….. no spills ….. just fun.

Time to have a shower and get the show on the road.

Have a great day whether you are at home or going to work.

Special Hello to:  Aunt Helen and cousin Teddy …..  you are in our thoughts and prayers.   We love you guys.

Thought for the day

This morning my daughter Amanda and I took a walk around our neighbourhood and picked up the trash.  Four bags and two hours later we cleaned up our area.  It still amazes me the amount of litter that is “disgracing” our neighbourhood.  People seem to just walk by the same empty milk jug day after day.  Also the community mailboxes are a drop off zone for flyers and unwanted mail.  I wish that people would take more pride in their community.  It is so easy to do.  Just bend over and pick up that piece of paper and put it in your trash can.  Not difficult.  Not at all.  Do we really want our children and pets possibly eating something off the ground or handling something dirty?   Remember to recycle.  Also I would mention that the blue bins that are used in your home to contain the recycling are not meant to house those items waiting outside on the curb for the garbage guys.  The wind comes up and blows and blows.  Suddenly those papers and cardboard bits are all over your neighbourhood.

My thought for the day is:  Littering is still a crime.  Crime to yourself.  Crime to your neighbourhood.  Crime to the world.  We need to take more pride in the world around us.  I want my grandchildren and all the babies that are born to be surrounded by the same beauty, as I had growing up.  Please.
