Living … One day at a time.

Hello,

Wow, Saturday morning and almost time for me to pop over and pick up Mr. Humphrey who will be spending the weekend except for sleeping at our house.

There has been peeps of sunlight coming through the smoke filled sky this morning.

The wind is blowing so what that will mean, only time will tell.

Last night my daughter gave me a ride home from work as a couple of food items of mine had been left mixed with hers.

She helped me or rather set up a couple of things on the new phone for me.

After she left which was about 5:15 or so, Alvin and I left the house for a walk.

We were only a few doors down when I noticed a man trying to corral his dogs one being a large dog and the other a small one.

He yelled to a neighbour (our friend) who was out in her front yard to pick up the small dog while he called after the large dog who just kept running.

This is the breed that killed another friend’s dog and I will say I am just a bit, okay a lot scared of that dog.

So we ran onto a porch of another friend and hid at the front door.

She has a large full tree in the front so we were not in sight.

Thankfully.

I figured that she would be at work and she has a small older dog who had seen us go by …

Jazmin did not start barking and I was hoping that the owner of the large dog would hurry and get him.

He kept calling to the dog “come get into the truck” as he walked to his truck.

Meanwhile cars are zooming by ….. the dog stayed on the other side of the street but at one point was right directly across from us.

Alvin barked once and I covered him with my body and sort of pinned him against the door for protection.

I was not taking any chances.

Hoping that he would not start barking grabbing he attention of the loose large dog.

Not with my Alvin.

Just as Jazmin started to bark again …. the door opened and we almost fell into the house.

My friend was at home (happened to have the day off) and had been upstairs when we first arrived on her porch.

I noticed that the dog ran by towards his owner.

My heart was racing.

It was finally over.

Only was a handful of minutes but seemed forever.

So we ended up staying for a visit.

Alvin had some treats.

Life is good.

After that we continued on our walk.

We saw that the Geese including the goslings were on the grass by the water in the park.

So great so see those darling babies.

As we rounded the ponds we, I spotted a friend out watering her garden.

I said hello and that started a long chat.

Alvin was pretty patient.

After that, we turned around to go home and met a woman with her two small dogs.

We stopped and had a meet.

One of her dogs was a senior at 15 and then had a 7 year old small dog.

The senior about Alvin’s age but not his weight.

After that we headed home.

Saw other neighbours out walking with their doggie but we only said a quick hello.

Just about home when I saw other friend and her son.

She spotted Alvin whom she loves …. another beautiful conversation.

Guess what time we got home?

7:30 p.m.

So then we were famished or at least I kind of was …..

What a walk we had!

Other than the large dog experience … it was great to see so many friends.

Well I better get this day going.

I was going to mention that I started watching a mini series called “THE HOT ZONE.”

Based on true events in the United States (assuming).

I had watched the first of three two hour episodes Thursday night and watched all but about one hour last night.

I was so tired and poor Mr. Alvin …. kept trying to get me to go upstairs.

Well in the moment …. Living … One day a time.

Have an awesome Saturday.

Time to go and pick up Humphrey.

His Momma left about 8:00 a.m.

So he is okay …

Alvin will be happy to have company.

Laundry and grass mowing await me but not before picking up Humphrey and oh, yes COFFEE.

I also have to have breakfast.

Somewhere between changing bedding and gathering laundry and a handful of chores, I forgot.

Be kind …. and always aware of what is going on around you.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Sunday the 10th day of June, 2018.

The sky is filled with rain clouds, the trees are swaying in the wind and the sun is desperately trying to peer through the darkness.

It has been raining for a few hours and the pavement is wet, the grass is happily smiling a rich green, the trees are singing for the rain as they are moving about in the wind.

I can hear the rain drops coming down to the ground.

We needed the rain, the moisture, that balance.

Last night as the dark clouds filled the sky and the odd rain drop began to fall; I decided to move my flower pots into the protection of the house.

I could not have every pot in total cover and not that I wanted to as they need that glorious nectar that falls from the sky.

So they still receive the moisture but are protected in the event of hail and strong winds.

I noticed that some of the flower petals had fallen off and were covering the soil inside the pots.

What can you do?

We are going to visit a friend later this morning rain or shine.

So hopefully it is not pouring although I can carry my large umbrella and Alvin can walk close beside me.

He really needs a summer rain jacket.

He has one but it does not really fit him anymore.

At least it is not cold outside and we can always dry off later.

What are you doing today?

Is it raining where you are?

What do you do on a raining day?

Stay inside?

Go for a walk?

Read a book?

Write a book?

Watch a movie?

Eat popcorn?

Go shopping?

Do housework?

Hobby/craft time?

Go through closets?

I hope that wherever you are that you are enjoying this day.

Perhaps it is a work day for you or perhaps a day of leisure.

No matter what … enjoy.

Take in the sights and sounds around you.

Hold them close.

Appreciate them for what they are ….

Happy Sunday.

Special Hello to: my sister …. who is one of the best joke tellers I know.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Thursday the 6th day of October, 2016.

Dark outside typical of this time of year.

No moisture of any sort over night or yet this morning.

Great to be dry as we have had quite a lot of moisture this year.

Not complaining as we did need it over the spring and summer.

Most of the leaves are now off the tree out front.

Likely one for sure or possibly two times more to rake.

Forgot to keep a bag of leaves to decorate for Halloween.

I guess I should have enough to fill a bag before then.

***********************************************************************

My thoughts as of late have been on our four-legged friends.

The little guy you named “Charlie” or the little girl you named “Daisy.”

Over the years they greeted you at the door after work tails wagging so happy to see you.

They cuddled with you when you felt as though your world had ended.

They kept you exercising through walking and tossing the ball because you felt it was good for them.

But all the while it was to keep you from vegging on the sofa (so smart they are).

Actually good for everyone.

Even though in the beginning there was no way he or she was going to sleep on your bed.

Now they are a permanent fixture.

They live in the moment.

There are also our feline friends who are just as much a part of our families as our canine ones.

Sally and Joe who lived with you since they were kittens.

Chasing each other all over the house bringing a smile to your face.

Sometimes we take for granted how much joy and goodness our four-legged friends bring to our lives.

They start out as kittens or puppies.

They make us laugh and cry throughout the learning  process but then we all grow up.

So if you think for one moment that they are just “animals” or just there for your protection or for your power trip, think again.

They are our friends, our companions, our family.

We play with them, we take care of them and we love them.

Just like any other member of our families.

Treat them well.

Respect them.

One day they will be gone and you will regret not being a good family member.

They do not ask for much.

Just food and respect.

So on this Thursday my thoughts and heart go out to all those family members that we lost this past year.

Watch over us.

We love you and miss you so much.

Happy Thursday.

Special Hello to: my family and friends

Always, Carol and Alvin
