Second Half of the NEW YEAR.

Good Morning,

Welcome to Tuesday, August 11, 2020.

Today is the birthday of the older of my brothers who is younger than me.

Happy Birthday Brother.

Wishing you an awesome day.

He lives in the country and is haying today.

It is a bright and sunny morning.

There is a slight breeze and feels refreshing.

Alvin is pacing and now sitting beside my desk as I write this post.

Now laying down.

Once we are done, will get dressed and head out for a walk.

Beautiful morning.

Well folks I finally went out into the wild world of grocery shopping last night.

My friend Gillian picked me up.

We masked up and headed into COSTCO and then onto SAVE-ON.

No longer are people lining up to go in although I did notice that a woman was holding a counter in the entrance way so perhaps they are keeping track of the numbers coming into the store.

Everyone in both stores was wearing a mask.

Upon entering COSTCO there was a sea of blue masks.

I noticed that most folks in COSTCO were wearing the masks that they were handing out.

Save-On did not hand out masks that I noticed.

Both stores did have sanitizer.

I was happy that I did not get too freaked out by the experience.

The mask was hot and uncomfortable.

My glasses fogged up so I had to keep taking them off.

Luckily I can see distances without wearing them.

So now I am on the lookout for lighter more breathable but safe masks.

They did say that any covering on your face is better than nothing.

Scarves etc.

Not sure.

Crazy to think that I have not been in a grocery store since the beginning of March and this is August.

Last Wednesday I went to Shoppers and then last night so slowly making my way back to being in public.

Just have to be aware of those around you.

Well time to out of pj’s and dressed so that I can take Mr. Alvin for a walk.

So grateful to be on vacation for second week.

I hope that you all are safe and in good health.

Enjoy your day.

Always remember to take some time for yourself.

Even if it is only a minute or two.

Living my life with kindness and respect.

Oh, I gave away more than 36 pieces of carrot cake and cupcakes.

Still a bit left but not too much which is good.

Have an awesome day.

I/We shall remain,

As Always, Carol & Alvin

Second Half of the NEW YEAR.

Good Morning,

Thursday August 6th, 2020.

Three days until my 63rd Birthday.

Yesterday I received a birthday card and letter from my Aunt & Uncle.

I did read the letter and was happy to hear their news and that they were okay.

Cannot believe how quickly the time passes.

Yesterday I wrapped and had ready to post the birthday present for my friend back in Regina.

I was going to “phone a friend” to see if someone could go and mail the parcel.

But then I thought …. why?

Instead I asked my neighbour if I could borrow her car and go mail the parcel.

We have a strip mall less than a five minute drive away complete with a drugstore and post office.

For the next bit before I actually went over to grab the keys, I felt a bit sick to my stomach.

At first I blamed it on the heat and then I realized that I was feeling a bit anxious.

This was my first time since March that I had been out in public, in a retail store where there could be many people.

I do not count the VET as they were only allowing one patient at a time.

Occasionally someone would come in for supplies.

The staff were always wiping down the doors, handles, windows, counters and debit machine.

Any place where a human could touch.

They always had sanitizer out on the counter so nothing new.

As I gathered my purse, shoes, sun clips, phone and checking to see if I had my debit card and of course, the main reason for going out, the parcel.

Picked up the keys and shortly thereafter I was on my way.

When I arrived at the parking lot I was amazed at how many cars.

Every person I noticed had a mask on.

There were the disposable light blue ones and many home sewn ones of every description.

After parking I grabbed my purse, the parcel and of course, the mask and locked the car.

As I walked to the drugstore, I slipped on the mask.

I have worn it before at the VET just because it is the right thing to do.

It felt hot on my face as I breathed in and out, momentarily fogging up my glasses.

Once instead I saw friendly faces hidden behind the masks.

I called out to the girls in the cosmetic area.

It is an odd feeling not seeing someone’s face when you are speaking to them.

I had a quick chat with the girls, telling them this was my first time out since working from home started in March.

First retail experience.

The young gal that I know the best “told me not to worry, you have your mask on.”

I felt kind of silly.

Then I was on my way.

First stop “Post Office.”

I noticed the arrows on the floor that no one was following.

There were several people in the store and everyone at that point had a mask on their face.

At the Post Office, I was happy to see only one person ahead of me.

The mask was hot on my face as I spoke to the Clerk in the Post Office asking this and him answering that.

I remembered to pick up stamps.

Once I had mailed the parcel, I decided to pick up a few items as I was at the store.

Walking down the aisles, I spotted the hair colours and walked over to them.

The first thing I did was to pick one up.

Then I placed it back like a hot potato.

Realizing what I had done.

What is the protocol for this?

Is there one?

Do you just look and only touch what you are purchasing?

After that I only looked and picked up what I intended to purchase.

At the checkout there was a woman with no mask.

No one knows why?

Perhaps for medical reasons, maybe she did not have one or perhaps she did not care.

When it was my turn at the cashier, I saw in front of me, this plastic wall, a shield protecting the cashiers, with an opening at the bottom to push through the products you were buying.

I must have looked stunned for a moment – I think you can tell that even if your mouth and most of your face is covered.

I had heard from others that most retail stores had this kind of setup but to see it in person, is quite another story.

Seemed like in a bank or in our old office before the renovations or in a New York taxi.

I had a quick chat with the cashier as she rung through my items.

I felt compelled to tell the cashier that this was my first public outing since March, my first retail experience.

Also, I commented on how hot the masks were and asked “Do you ever get used to wearing them?”

She said “No.”

This gave me a whole new appreciation for those folks who work out in the public.

Whether in health care or in retail or anywhere really.

Then I was done.

As soon as I was away from the building, I whipped off my mask.

Deep breath.

Into the car and back home.

A sense of accomplishment and relief.

I wondered how many folks were in a similar situation to mine?

I have been so blessed over the past few months to have friends and family that pick up my groceries and such.

After this, I am not quite certain if I am ready for grocery shopping or not.

If there were only a couple of people, maybe.

This morning we were up a bit earlier than the past few mornings and actually left the house at 7:00 for our walk.

I was surprised at just how many folks were out and about.

Riding bikes, walking with a friend or like me walking with their dog.

Another hot day so I must get going.

Time to have coffee and breakfast before getting some housework done.

After lunch it is just too hot to be doing much inside the house.

Living with respect and kindness.

I/We shall remain,

As Always, Carol & Alvin

Second Half of the NEW YEAR.

Welcome to Thursday, July 23, 2020.

Wow, not many days left in July 2020.

The time just seems to zip by.

We had rain earlier and was raining when we were up at 4:30.

I did not hear any thunder but then again, I had the electric fan running most of the night.

Slept in our bed last night and we both were awake at 4:30, thankfully did not stay up.

Makes for an early night if up that early.

Although if it had not been raining the sun would have been coming up.

It is muggy in the office this morning even with the windows open.

Looks like more rain.

So how are we all doing at almost the end of 5 months since this COVID19 virus became so much on our radar.

Perhaps on some more so than others.

With every country on the planet affected by COVID19 which I believe is the majority at this point; every different leader and government has taken a different approach.

Some were fast to shut down out of country air travel.

Others were not.

There were countries that took very cautious approaches and with diligence they were able to lower the amount of cases and deaths.

While others just seemed to stand by and hope for the best.

No one knows at this point the real numbers because they are only as good as they are reported.

Also I read some place that countries were initially treating any deaths as COVID19 and not doing any autopsies.

That is scary but sort of understandable in a way.

Anyway, if we all listen to our government health officials we can make a difference.

In public wear a mask.

Wash your hands often.

Social Distancing.

Just be careful.

To be honest since I came home to work on March 19, 2020 – the most people at one time that I have been around other than me is 3.

So any numbers larger than that …. honestly kind of freak me out.

I know that this is because I have not been out to the grocery stores and in public.

So this is something that I will have to get used to and be prepared with.

Food for thought.

If we do not work together …. we fall apart.

Well time to head to work.

Alvin is doing much better, thankfully.

I think the second set of medication has made a huge difference.

Time will tell when that medication has all been taken.

I hope that you are safe and in good health.

Living with kindness and respect.

I/We, shall remain,

As Always, Carol & Alvin

It is a NEW YEAR.

Good Morning and another Monday Morning.

That is a good thing actually a great thing.

This may be the most unpopular day of the week.

But the fact that you are reading this post and I am writing it are a great thing.

I hope that this finds you in good health.

What did you do this weekend?

As you know I had Friday off after a quiet celebration on Thursday for my daughter’s 40th Birthday.

I did the normal chores like laundry and some cleaning.

Alvin and I had the most glorious walk yesterday the first full one in as many days.

I was blessed to have had a girls night on Saturday with my young friends.

Spoke on the phone with other friends over the weekend.

Did you have a quiet or noisy weekend?

Did you stay home and watch movies?

Did you colour a picture in your daughter or son’s colouring book?

Did you play board games?

Did you go for a walk with your doggie?

Did you make a bit pot of soup, just because?

Well whatever you were doing as long as you are in good health, that is the most important thing of all.

Yesterday I started putting my papers together to do my taxes.

So shouldn’t take me too long.

Guess what?

Big news.

Alvin slept through the night.

I would say this is the first time in weeks, months and possibly years.

He did not get up in the middle of the night nor did he stir before the alarm went off.

You may think that perhaps I did not hear him but I always hear him.

Actually I got up once but did not check the time, assuming it was middle of the night.

He appears to be okay nothing out of the norm.

That is my big news.

Well it is almost time to head downstairs.

Today we will find out about work.

Are we working through this or is the office closing.

We are closed to the public which is a good thing.

Please make sure that if you have an elderly neighbour or someone who is not easily mobile, that you call by and see what they need.

Take them some bathroom tissue and some food items.

Think of others during this time and all times.

Please be kind and respectful.

Please think of others.

We need each other during this time and always.

Time to head downstairs.

Pick up the poop.

Grab my lunch and stuff.

Have a wonderful Monday.

Be kind and respectful.

Be well.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Thursday the 3rd day of January, 2019.

WOW, day three of the New Year.

Our weather has been absolutely gorgeous breaking high temperatures for this time in history.

Yesterday was almost +8.

Pretty great for January.

Back to it today.

I am feeling much better and not certain what hit me yesterday.

Who knows.

Not to question, just feeling grateful.

Mr. Alvin is laying beside me on his blue blanket.

I love this part of the morning.

Listening to my fingers click clicking on the keyboard and listening to Mr. Alvin breathing/resting.

Looking out my window at 6:20 a.m. is much different than when we were on Christmas Vacation and getting up at 8:20 a.m.

Dark now and back then it was mostly overcast but some mornings we were treated to sunshine.

Nothing better than the early morning sunshine ….. sunrise….best time of the day.

Well perhaps I would have a small debate with myself as I love sunsets and the evening sky with the stars twinkling at us.

I guess I love mornings and evenings.

Back to work.

This will be our first day open to the public at our new temporary digs.

Should be interesting I am sure.

Likely will take people a bit of time to get used to our new location.

I am grateful to have this bit of warm weather.

Even the weekend at minus 10 degrees celsius is not too cold.

I wonder if this is due to climate change?

Likely in part.

Although we humans are enjoying this break in the cold temperatures, it can certainly mess up Mother Nature.

To my friend who sent me “some of her favourite things” for Christmas.

No, sorry not THE Oprah but she is my Oprah.

I tried the brow wax this morning and OMG, this is one of my favs.

If you have an opportunity to try this product – you will love it.

“ACTI-LABS” made in USA and Europe.

This one came from France.

When I first started applying it – I thought it was too light – Hickory.

But oh no, it was perfect.

It makes my old eyebrows look like they did when I was in my 20’s.

Thank you my friend.

I also love the SHEA hand lotion and the toothpaste.

Still have the deodorant to try.

GREAT Product line.

Well here we are almost time to leave for work.

The Christmas Vacation was awesome but always could be longer.

Grateful to have had the time off.

Grateful to have spent time with friends and family.

Grateful to have had all that time with me, Alvin.

Grateful to be alive.

Happy New Year.

Best life in 2019.

Special Hello to: my friend who is so thoughtful and kind.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Friday the 8th day of September, 2017.

Yesterday we broke the highest temperature for September 7th, 2017, which was I believe 1928.

It was over 31 degrees celsius.

The bus ride home was indeed HOT and the bus was packed full.

Luckily for me I was standing right beside the bus driver so it was not too bad.

Today the temperature is to be a few degrees cooler which is great.

Not last night but Tuesday and Wednesday evenings on our way home from our walks two young men were sitting on the benches in the entranceway to the park, smoking weed.

I could smell that distinct odour as we approached.

It is a family neighbourhood ….. no consideration.

Pretty sure it is still against the law to smoke weed in public.

I know that some laws are changing regarding weed.

Oh well.

Last night Alvin for some unknown reason decided to toss and turn and kept us both up most of the night.

I hope that I am productive and on the ball today.

Luckily it is Friday and we have the weekend.

With the full moon yesterday and last night at sunset the sun was this big huge ball of orange hanging there in the evening sky.

It was so beautiful.

We were on our way on our walk and I did not have a camera otherwise it would have been a great shot.

Well folks time to run …. got to go and catch that steamer, I mean bus.

Have an awesome Friday.

Hope it is productive, fun and relaxing all muddled together.

We can do this.

Special Hello to:  all those people who ride public transportation …

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day…..

Good Morning and Welcome to Thursday May 21st, 2015.

Beautiful morning here in Edmonton.

Today is TRY SOMETHING NEW day …..

or at least for me.

I am wearing my hair off my face and up.

I always have bangs so this is definitely new.

Perhaps I have done this in the privacy of my home but not out in public.

I do remember I had my hair french-braided back in the 70’s, and it was off my face then.

Time for a change.

Most change is due to necessity and same this time.

When I washed my hair night before last I went to bed with wet hair.

I knew this was wrong but did so anyway.

My bangs went crazy.

So let’s see what happens today.

It feels good and that is all that matters.

Perhaps it is time to go and purchase some more headbands.

So go forth in the world today and try something new.

Have a great day.

Special Hello to: all those who try something new and to the rest who want to but are not just quite ready.

Always, Carol and Alvin
