Last Half 2022 – November

Good Morning ALL! I hope that this post finds you doing well. We are doing well although I do admit that I like being able to sleep later in the mornings but I am up and almost ready. Alvin has had his breakfast and been outside to do his business, okay, I shall say it “to p&p.” Our weather has been absolutely gorgeous. I sure am grateful for these above zero temperatures. I can hear a dog outside to the south barking. I hope that they let the poor guy into the house. Why do people leave their poor dogs outside? Those are not great human beings. I cannot imagine doing that. I feel badly if I let Alvin outside and run into the basement for something quick. He always beats me to the door and then starts barking. Most times, the majority of the time, I go outside with him, especially since he is getting older.

I had a great idea this morning. While thinking of Alvin, I realized that my daughter does not have the phone numbers of my friends that help with Alvin. She does have the phone numbers of my friends Gillian and Signe or at least the group chat. So what would happen if something happened to me, who would she contact. So I took a screenshot of some of my contacts, the ones that are looking after Alvin today and tomorrow while I head out to the office. This is something that we likely do not think about – the exchange of contact information. I plan tonight to make a list of all of my close friends and their phone numbers and give to my daughter. Should anything happen to her, she will have the information at easy access. I also sent her my Manager’s cell number. Organized and prepared are good things. You should always give the person that would be looking after your affairs and finances, any information that is required to access those records. My daughter has most of my info but I need to make a list and give it to her. Should something ever happen to me, I do not wish her to be stressing over account numbers, banking info etc. in the midst of grieving. We should all be prepared. It is important.

I watered some of my plants upstairs this morning. They are doing well. My African Violet is blooming with the most exquisite deep rich purple flowers. I am blessed to be surrounded by beautiful plants and flowers. Not only do they help the air quality but they are beautiful. Do you talk to your plants? I do, I touch their leaves and chat away to them. Sounds a bit strange but I do not have any humans in the house. So Mr. Alvin and the Plants are my sounding boards and with whom I chat about things, about them, about life. It would be odd never to talk to Alvin. I hope that he likes the sound of my voice. Likely thinks I talk too much, lol.

Today and tomorrow I am off to the office. I am so grateful that I have a ride to work with a coworker and that I have friends to watch over Alvin.

Only this weekend and next until I have my “baking weekend” followed by two Christmas parties, two Saturdays in a row. Busy December. This weekend I will double check my list of ingredients to ensure that I have everything that I need. Always good to be prepared even for baking weekends!

I hope that you have a great Wednesday, I almost put down Tuesday. Yikes. I am feeling much better, thank goodness. If I am able to sleep, I always feel better. Sleep heals.

Continuing to live this life with kindness, respect, compassion, patience, love, laughter, understanding, gratitude, focus, possibilities and coffee.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Friday the 20th day of July, 2018.

A bit cooler outside this morning and some beautiful cloud formations.

We had two walks yesterday which was great.

So grateful that it was cooler in the house last night.

Cooler weekend on the way which will be nice as my daughter and grand-pups are coming for a sleepover (actually two nights).

So excited.

I have some questions and I will provide my answers, what are yours?

  1.  Favourite place to visit in the world – my country, Canada and I have another New York City, USA.
  2.  Favourite season – Fall, love the colours of the trees and the smell in the air
  3. Favourite food to eat – that is way too hard.  I am a foodie and love most things but if I had to narrow it down:  chocolate cake and potato salad (not together)
  4. Favourite time of day – sunrise and sunset
  5. Favourite companion – Alvin (my four-legged guy)
  6. Favourite song – Don’t Stop Believin’ – by Journey
  7. Favourite colour – periwinkle blue, purple, but most of all “Kelly GREEN”
  8. Favourite thing to do – anything creative, walk or have coffee with my girl friends and my daughter and working in my flower garden.
  9. Do you like surprises? – only the good ones
  10. Are you a negative or positive person? – definitely more on the positive side, although I have my moments
  11. Are you on-time or late in general? – definitely on-time but usually early.
  12. One thing that ticks you off the most? – people that have total disregard for animals, people and the environment.

Well I guess that is it for now.  Almost time to leave for work.

Have an awesome Friday.

Special Hello to: my friends sprinkled all over the world.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Friday the 1st day of September, 2017.

Welcome September.

Gorgeous sunrise.

The sky is this incredible pink with hues of blue and purple.

So pretty.

So on this Friday.

I am going to take myself just a little less seriously.

Take a “laugh break” throughout the day.

Be kind to others and to myself – always.

Be in the moment.

This is my Friday mantra.

Happy Friday Everyone.

Special Hello to: all those folks starting the month with a birthday, Happy Birthday.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Wednesday the 2nd day of August, 2017.

After a raining Tuesday – forecast is for sunny skies.

The next few days are to be lower twenties which will be nice.

The temperature has fallen substantially for Friday as was supposed to be 29, now 23.

You never know ….. weather changes frequently.

Alvin and I enjoyed our walk last night – just the two of us.

Not many people out walking.

Just a couple more sleeps and three days to work until VACATION.

I am so excited to have TWO WEEKS off ……

Time to relax, reflect and ENJOY my company.

Alvin is excited to see everyone ……

I am hoping that shortly I will have some tomatoes to eat from my plant.

It has grown so big.

My first tomatoes …….

Flowers, most especially the Snap Dragons are growing my mad.

The colours are so pretty ….. hues of yellow, pinks, purples and corals.

We love sitting on the patio admiring the beautiful flowers and gazing up into the sky.

Well time to get this show on the road.

Have a wonderful day.

Remember to take some time to breathe …. just sit, close your eyes and breathe.

Special Hello to:  my sister ….. soon …..

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Friday the 6th day of January, 2016.

Today is the birthday of one of my dear friends back in Regina.

Alvin and I would like to take this opportunity to WISH her an awesome Birthday.

Happy Birthday “L.”

On the home front, I picked up my second pair of new glasses last night and I love them.

Now I have two new pairs of glasses that I can alternate.

One of them has custom sunglass clips so that I no longer require to carry around a separate pair of sunglasses.

So much easier.

Alvin helped me shovel the deck and driveway last night.

I shovelled the snow from the front by myself.

It was starting to get cold or at least with the wind so the back was enough for Mr. Alvin.

We shovelled our neighbours front and back not obviously not her backyard.

Nice to get some extra exercise.

Well for some reason I tossed and turned and was feeling nauseated so did not sleep well.

I feel great this morning but unfortunately I am running a tad late.

How does that happen?

Fridays are a great day to show some extra kindness to someone.

Pick up a coffee for someone.

Shovel the walks for a elder neighbour.

Take a friend/neighbour’s dog for a walk.

Have a wonderful Friday and thank you for helping out.

Special Hello to: my friend in Regina as she celebrates a birthday today.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Sunday the 12th day of June, 2016.

It has been overcast and raining off and on this morning.

There have been slight moments of brightness appearing out of small cracks in the deep blue clouds, sun I presume.

It was cool in the house when we first got up this morning.

But no need to turn on the furnace at this time of year.

I just returned a bit ago from cleaning up part of the neighbourhood.

A particular walkway to the 62nd Avenue.

One side is our residential neighbourhood and the other is a very main street and on the other side a bunch of fast few restaurants and a strip mall.

So quite often meaning all of the time there are a vast array of cups and fast food wrappers from Starbucks, McDonalds, Dairy Queen and Boston Pizza.

I have asked for a garbage barrel to be placed there but to no avail.

I guess as long as someone like me will pick up the garbage why would you pay for a barrel, bags and someone to empty them.

Oh well.

I do not mind ….. I am helping out my friends and neighbours.

The only one that truly minds is Mr. Alvin as I have to leave him at home and he does not like that.

He likes me to be at home on the weekends.

I cannot blame him.

Well I guess time to go and enjoy my coffee while it is warm.

The first cup earlier I only drank a bit of it as I wanted to get out before the rain arrived.

Funny thing it rained a bit when I left the house and started to come down a bit harder on my way home.

Just gave me the perfect time to get it done.

YAY.

My neighbours that have been here since I moved to Edmonton are moving out tomorrow into a brand new house that they had built.

Not too far away so I think we will see each other but likely not quite as often, I suspect.

I am looking forward to meeting and getting to know the new people.

I shall miss my neighbours.

“S” was here alone when I moved in and two years later got married.

Nothing last forever and change is a learning process or at least that is what I keep telling myself.

Mr. Elton is coming over at 3:00 p.m. to spend a few hours with his Grandma and Alvin.

We look forward to spending time with him.

Did I mention that my irises are blooming?

The most perfect purple.

Well time to sign off.

I wish you an awesome Sunday.

Thank you for reading.

Special Hello to: “M” longtime friend ……

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day …….

Good Morning and Welcome to Saturday the 16th day of May, 2015.

It is overcast and very windy.

We did however receive some rain overnight which is great.

Perhaps it will rain over the course of the day and that would be wonderful as it is so needed.

Well I had the best start to the long weekend.

Yesterday started off with bootcamp.

This one was very engaging ….

Found out “all of the arms work” really engaging when I went to dry my hair after a nice warm shower.

I could barely lift my arms …… arg ….

This morning they feel great …. not tired ….. they feel strong.  YAY.

My friend “S” and I went shopping/ running errands after bootcamp.

First stop was the VET to pick up food for Alvin and some treats for him.

Our second stop was Home Depot to pick up some more flowers.

OMG, I could have bought every single flower there.

I picked up a ready made pot filled with pinks and white flowers.

Impatiens and I think begonias to plant for the front porch.

Petunias, and some others that I am not certain of their names.

Have to read the labels.

Also small basket of purple pansies.

So pretty.

I LOVE FLOWERS.

I LOVE LOVE FLOWERS.

They make me so happy.

The colours.

There was one tiny white flower that filled the air with the most amazing fragrance.

I made sure that I picked up some of them.

I decided to plant them (was hoping today) later.

Later might be tomorrow.

They are carefully sitting in the garage by the window.

Will check them later to see if they need a drink of water.

After our stop at Home Depot we went to Costco.

Now that store on a Friday was “busy” …..

People were doing silly driving parking things.

Well of course when you go to Costco …. do you ever stick to the list?  NOPE. Never.

After all doesn’t everyone need a ten pound bag of carrots ….

Apparently me and Alvin did …..

One last stop before home.

Save-On for the winning lotto tickets.

P.S. the one item that I really should have picked up was new house phones because apparently mine are not working …. just filled with static when someone calls ….. I did find out that they can hear me quite fine……..

It was wonderful to spend time with my friend “S” ….. we laughed and chatted and laughed.

Great time.

Now on this quiet Saturday ….

The only sounds in the house are the clock tick tock ing in the bathroom, the sound of the keys as I type these words and the wind as it blows through the upper vents.

Friday was great …… exercise, shopping, walk with Alvin and then being at home.

So on this quiet lovely Saturday morning I hope that you too are enjoying your day.

I love being in my home ….. just puttering …. doing laundry ….. sipping on a cup of coffee ….. just being.

I did think however after yet another bootcamp that I had better get out my yoga equipment and get stretching.

It is amazing as you get older how inflexible you become if you do not work at it.

So I am going to ……

I want to be the most healthy almost 58 year old woman…..

So time to go and get at it.

Remember to take time for yourself. ….

If you like flowers….. go to and pick up some to plant or a ready made pot.

If you do not have the extra money to buy flowers today then just go and spend some time at one of the retail garden stores.

Smell them and take in all of the amazing colours.

This experience will uplift and bring you to a great place.

Well I hear the laundry calling and another cup of coffee …. perhaps I will drink it while it is “hot.”

Have a wonderful Saturday …..

Special Hello to: my daughter and family …. we miss you guys.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day……

Good Morning and Welcome to Thursday the 12th day of February, 2015.

Wow tomorrow is Friday the 13th and Saturday is Valentine’s Day.

Two weeks till March.

Spring is close.

I love spring.

Some of my fondest memories from my childhood are of spring.

I can recall the “smell” of spring ….. the ice melting ……

The air was so refreshing … inviting.

I remember wanting it to stay that way forever.

Crocuses would cover some of our nearby pasture areas.

The purple so beautiful.

I wished that I would have had a camera …..

I have not seen a purple field of crocuses since I was a little girl.

I remember the first time I actually saw a crocus and thought the flower was wearing a furry blanket.

The thoughts of a child.

Spring also brought the babies ….. I especially loved the baby calves ….. their fur so soft and beautiful.

Spring ….. ODE to spring ……

I love spring.

I shall treasure my memories of you forever.

I shall think of you often.

When I think of you a smile graces my face.

Thank you, spring.

Well here we are once again …. time to go to work.

I would love to be retired so that I could stay at home with me Alvin, make jewellery and write.

I would love to explore writing and take it to the next level.

Have an awesome day.

What brings a smile to your face?

Special Hello to: lovers of spring.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day…..

Good Morning and Welcome to Wednesday the 26th day of February, 2014.

It is another cold morning here in Edmonton.

There is a great thing that has started to happen earlier everyday.

It is beginning to get light before 7:00 a.m. …… spring is almost here.

Also after work the sun is shining brightly (it was yesterday).

Spring is almost here.  YAY….

It is my favourite season ….. spring.

I love the fresh start.

I love the smell of spring.

The way that the snow melts and pools of water are left behind.

I love the trees as they begin to bud and leaf.

I remember when I was a little girl and it seemed like spring would last forever.

I also remember walking in our yard which was almost the size of a small town, actually it likely was, and seeing a bed of purple.

The purple emanated from all the crocuses.

I loved that they looked like they had little fur coats on to keep them warm as it was still on the cool side.

ODE to spring ……

I think that the seasons have it right.

We have an opportunity to start fresh ….. grow and prosper.

Right.

Well something to look forward to …..

I hope that you have an awesome day with dreams of spring and how you will grow and prosper.

Take care.

Special Hello to: my friends who live far away …… I miss you all.

Always, Carol and Alvin
