Last Half 2022 – November

Good Morning ALL! Bright, sunny and warming up here in Edmonton. I hope that this Friday you doing well.

Remember

Lest we forget

Those men and women

Who courageously gave up their lives

So that we may live and be free

Lest we forget

****

Lest we forget

Radio warnings and bomb shelling

Women screaming

Children crying

Lest we forget

****

Lest we forget

The ones that were spared

Do not forget the ones that died

Remember them all

Lest we forget

2021

Good Morning ALL! How are you today? Alvin and I are well. Wishing my special nephew Taylor a Happy Birthday. Last year on Remembrance Day I wrote the following and thought that I would share it again. Let us remember.

REMEMBRANCE

An old woman sits alone in a small room,

Quietly weeping as she remembers,

The lives lost because of wars fought on this earth.

The first person she remembers losing was her Uncle Jack, she was only a small girl at the time, age four.

Uncle Jack used to bring a bag of sweets when he visited her family.

He was her Father’s oldest brother,

He fought in the first World War.

She remembers her grandparents receiving a telegram briefly stating that Uncle Jack was killed in action and thanking them for his service to his country.

She was married when World War II started and had a family of her own.

She remembers two of her four brothers enlisting at the beginning of the war.

She remembers her Mother’s quiet screams when they received notification that they were killed in action in some country far far away.

On the day when her husband decided he could no longer sit back and hear of the stories of lost family and friends and the possibility of the world being lost to a mad man, he hugged her and enlisted in the armed forces. A trained pilot was badly needed. She felt in her heart that he would not return. She hugged him tightly and kisses him hard on the mouth so that she would have that memory for the rest of her life.

In 1943, she received the yellow paper stating that her husband John and his crew were shot down and presumed killed in action. She wept quietly as she held the paper in her hands. Now she was truly alone and would continue to raise her six children on her own.

Years later when her second eldest son, also a pilot like his father joined the Armed Forces and went to fly in the Korean War, her heart skipped a beat. How could she go through this again but there was no stopping Edward, he was much like his Father when he made up his mind. Only a few short months after he left his plane was shot down by the enemy. Another letter, another life lost to these terrible wars. When would they end?

In the Vietnam War, her youngest daughter Katherine who was a nurse signed up, as a sign of the times to go and provide aid to the wounded. Also a short time later another son Mark decided to follow his sister, he was a Doctor. Medical personnel were greatly needed.

She remembers listening to the television and watching news clips of the war and missing her children so much not knowing if they would return. Occasionally receiving a letter from them.

On a summer day a black car pulled up to her home and two men in uniforms came to the door. Her daughter Katherine had been killed by enemy fire when she was tending to the wounded. Her son Mark returned home at Christmas in 1974 he had been wounded but he was alive. He was the first family member in all those decades to return home alive from a war. She was grateful.

The last war that involved her family was the Persian Gulf War in 1990. Two of her great grandchildren were enlisted in the Army at this time but thankfully they returned home, uninjured.

At 107, she had lost so many members of her family to War. The memories still front and centre in her mind. That was her cross to bear having a good sense of recollection.

Now, too old to participate in Remembrance Day Ceremonies, she sits quietly in her room …….

Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Sunday the 11th day of November, 2018.

Remembering

Today, as we should every day, think of those brave women and men who gave up their lives for our freedoms.

Not only to keep us safe but so that we have a multitude of FREEDOMS.

Freedom of speech.

Freedom to practice one’s religion or not.

Freedom to be who we are free from persecution.

Freedom to live, love and play.

We thank them with who we are and with what we do each day.

By working, by contributing to society and by being good citizens of this country and of the world.

Thank you.

Today is the birthday of my very special nephew “T” …… he has a warm, soft heart and I love him.

I have known him since his Mom, my friend had him growing in her tummy.

Happy Birthday buddy and I hope that you have a special, special day.

Back to the boys as Alvin wants to be upstairs with me.

I can hear him barking.

Let us all take us some today to be grateful for all that we have and for all that we are ….

If it were not for the bravery of others we would not enjoy what most of us take for granted today.

Have a good Sunday …..

Special Hello to: my nephew “T.”  Happy Birthday

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Monday the 13th day of November, 2017.

Well here we are almost mid November.

The sky is overcast in Edmonton on this Monday morning.

The forecast is for snow all week long.

Yikes, I see SHOVELLING in my future.

Exercise, exercise and more exercise.

At least it will be the fluffy stuff and not the wet heavy stuff.

That is so much more easy to shovel and easier on a person.

I am grateful to have this day off from work.

This weekend we remembered as we do, all those who gave and continue to give their futures, so that we could have this day and all those ahead.

Thank you.

We are grateful to you all.

On this Monday, I am grateful that I have life.

I am grateful that I have my daughter and her family.

I am grateful that I was able to give Alvin a hair cut and bath by myself.

I am grateful that I can climb the steps in my house whenever I need to ….

I am grateful that I have wonderful friends and thank you to my friend “G” who asked me if I would like a ride to the grocery store.

I am grateful that I have my own home…..it is the best feeling in the world.

I am grateful that I am able to work and to do a good job.

Thank you on this Monday morning.

Special Hello to: all those folks who want to reach out and help others, but do not know how ….. little  steps …… little steps.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Good Morning and Welcome to Friday the 11th day of November, 2016.

Special day for more than a couple of reasons.

First, Happy Birthday to my nephew “T” …. not by blood but is family.

He has been family to me since the second he came into this world.

I have known him since that day.

He has a warm heart and great smile.

Alvin and I want to wish you the best day ever.

Today is also the date that we remember those brave souls over all time who have

volunteered to leave their homes and families and what was

familiar to them to defend our country.

We say from the bottom of our hearts “Thank You.”

We appreciate your lives and service to our country.

May PEACE rule this Earth one day so that no blood is ever shed again.

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Tuesday the 10th day of November, 2015.

Remembering my brother today on what would have been his 52nd Birthday.

Happy Birthday dear one……

Tomorrow is Remembrance Day ….. this week is all about remembering.

Memories of loved ones.

Many of whom passed way before they even had a chance to live.

I think of all those young men and women who entering the military thinking of adventure and of serving their country.

Likely they did both although I am certain the adventure part was not what they had in mind.

So this week you are all in my heart, thoughts and prayers.

To their families who miss them every day of every year, you are also in my heart, thoughts and prayers.

Thank you.  Thank you. Thank you.

Special Hello to: all those who gave their lives to keep us free.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Tuesday the 1st day of September, 2015.

WOW, it is September ….. yikes.

How many days until Christmas?

I guess first I had better look at Thanksgiving and Halloween and Remembrance Day.

All special days in their own right.

How is it that Christmas shines over all of the rest?

Perhaps maybe because of all the lights!

Okay, being silly here …..

Crazy, being funny at 6:30 in the morning.

I guess the “Matcha” must be working (green tea powder).

I don’t think that it makes one funny ….. just feeling better.

Well it is beginning to lighten outside.

Argh …. it is dark now when we get up in the morning.

The sun rises about 7:00 a.m.

Do you have plans for September?

Oh, and how could I possibly forget this weekend.

It is Labour Day.

One of my dear and long-time friends from Regina is coming to visit this weekend.

I am so excited …. can barely sleep or think.

I guess that is why I have not been sleeping proper.

It is always great when I have a chance to visit friends.

The years pass by and sometimes it can be a few in between visits.

Thank goodness for technology other than the telephone.

We can email and SKYPE.

Wishing you the best first day of September.

My favourite season is officially only a few weeks away.

I love everything about fall /autumn (depending on where you live).

The colours / the temperatures / the air / the scents.

Just the perfect time of year.

Well almost time to hit the road to work once again.

I hope that this day brings you closer to realizing your dreams.

Happy Tuesday.

Special Hello to: all those folks out there who love the fall.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day……

Good Morning and Welcome to Tuesday the 11th day of November, 2014.

This day we remember all those who lost their lives to keep their homelands and peoples safe.

We keep in our thoughts and recent memories those who continue to leave their homes to work toward a peaceful planet.

Fighting in a war is not something that I think is a good thing but sometimes it is necessary.

There has always been in our history those who live for power and to suppress those around them.

Greed in our history has always run rampant.

I would hope that someday on this beautiful blue green planet that we find a way to live in peace.

I hope that the need for power and greed melts away.

We need to live peacefully.

To show kindness and respect to those around us.

That kindness and respect is to our environment and all life forms on this planet.

That would be true peace.

I do think that someday we will live in peace.

So Remember on this Day to live peacefully and with kindness and respect.

Special Hello to: all those families with members away from home working on peace.

We thank you.

Always, Carol and Alvin
