Living … One day at a time.

Hello, well one full day back in the real world, my reality, anyway.

Not so bad.

Work is busy but that is not a surprise.

Always good to be busy.

Last night after work Alvin and I were joined by his BF Teddy and his Aunt J.

We walked around the big lake and it was glorious.

Such a beautiful night ….

I thought that I would share just a few of my vacation photos.

  1. Has to be one photo from inside the car.  Actually I took a great many but not as many as last year.
  2. NOTE:  I was sitting in the back and my sister was the navigator this trip.
  3. HOODOOS – Drumheller, Alberta (our day trip).  So beautiful.
  4. HOODOOS – Natural beauty
  5. HOODOOS – Cave
  6. HOODOOS – such a variety of colour, it was windy and warm
  7. HOODOOS – great way to spend the day and I have more photos to share.

Well I have realized that it would be much faster if I uploaded the photos from iPhoto to WordPress before the morning.

Now it is time to go back downstairs and finish getting ready for work.

I will just keep posting vacation photos for a few days.

There are so many photos that I wish to share with you.

We had such a great time.

This year my sister joined us (my daughter and I).

We three …. had so much fun.

Back tomorrow.

Spend your life giving kindness and showing respect.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Living … One day at a time.

Hello,

Beautiful morning …. no breeze but the air is cool so I have the windows open before heading out to work.

With the blinds closed – the house will stay cool most of the day.

We walked right after work last night in the rain.

Only did half the walk and then later after supper the sun came out.

But we did enjoy a nice walk in the rain.

Only got a bit wet.

Thankfully not a downpour.

But then again we wouldn’t go if it was raining hard.

There is something healing about walking in a nice rain.

Touching nature.

Looks like our services will be in high demand over the next little while.

Master Teddy is coming Thursday night until Saturday night.

My daughter asked if their two could stay with us Saturday till Monday.

Then next week the Humphrey.

YAY, my favourite thing to do …. is to be surrounded by the pups and the cat.

All of our four-legged fur babies.

Looks like the sun is peeping through the morning cloud cover.

Always a good thing to see.

Only a short time until my beloved sister comes for a visit.

She is my only sister.

My “little sis” …. my younger sister.

I am so excited to see her again.

We are going to have so much fun.

My sister, my daughter and I are going to take a short road trip.

YAY.

Then my sister and I will be joined by another brother to go and see our other brother.

Try and say that five times fast.

Not this gal.

So excited to be blessed to have this time together with my family.

I love our sibling get togethers.

Nice to catch up.

Looks like this girls road trip is going to be an annual event.

Happy about that.

Feeling so grateful to be surrounded by great family and friends.

Feeling so grateful that I, we will have all our fur-babies coming to see us over the next week and a bit.

Feeling so grateful that my daughter is giving me a ride home tonight (also going to COSTCO).

Feeling so grateful for the moisture and moderate temperatures.

Feeling so grateful to have Mr. Alvin by my side.

Feeling so grateful that I get up and swing my legs to the floor, this morning, and all others.

With kindness and respect I shall enter this day and do my best all day long.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Tuesday the 19th day of March, 2019.

Well here we are and it is Tuesday morning.

Back to work for this gal.

Humphrey came to spend the evening with us as he will tonight and tomorrow night.

His Momma has year end and that is a busy time for her.

We don’t mind and Humphrey loves to spend time with me and Alvin.

The boys go outside onto the deck and hang out.

There are a couple of spots that Humphrey loves to lay down and relax.

Most especially if the sun is shining.

It was so great being at home.

Making your own schedule.

Having an unexpected nap in the middle of the afternoon and waking up with a start to realize that it was 4:30 p.m.

Time to get out for a walk.

Which we did.

Walking on the opposite side of the street as too icy on our side.

I did chip away at the ice and unblocked the storm drain after some lovely person filled it with chunks of ice and snow.

We had a great day.

I even cooked up a big pot of chilli.

Once the snow and ice is gone from our back yard I must find a place for my Rooster weather vane.

I bought this as a birthday present to myself last summer when my daughter and I took a nice road trip.

It is extremely sharp so I must find a safe spot for it.

Somewhere that it can easily be removed and put into the garage for winter, I think.

Maybe not.

Depends where it goes?

Flowers picked up from a local nursery a few years back.

Didn’t they look pretty.

This is what I have to look forward to again this year.

Shopping with my daughter to pick up flowers to plant.

I am going to add some herbs and more tomatoes.

I have just the perfect pots for herbs and tomatoes.

Spring is close by.

Well almost time to finish getting ready for work.

I hope that you all have a wonderful day.

May your kindness shine through to the world and its back to you.

Happy Tuesday.

Special Hello to: all those folks longing for spring to arrive, it is almost here.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Wednesday the 30th day of January, 2019.

Warming up and snowing.

Rides to and from work today, thankfully no riding on the bus.

Teddy comes for a couple of days as his parents are going on vacation.

Love having him in the house.

He brings joy to me and Alvin.

Lightens our moods.

I guess it is the energy of youth.

Hopefully it will work out so that we can walk over and pick up Teddy after work.

I have the song “HAPPY” by Pharrell Williams playing over and over in my head.

I would like it to keep me in this place.

Actually woke up feeling happy this morning.

That is a first in awhile and not that I have necessarily woke up grumpy but just not feeling gleeful.

Today is going to be full of glee.

I am on top of the world.

Yes, I am.

Keeping up the positive, joyful energy.

I guess there will be shovelling in our future.

The pups will enjoy the fresh snow.

Alvin will be burying his chew treats in the snow for sure.

What am I saying …. will be …. pretty much every one that I give him goes outside.

He takes his time and very careful digs with his paws and his nose a bed to bury his beloved treats.

I love watching him putting them to bed.

When he digs them up …. just as cute.

Carefully and with precision he brings them back to the surface and into the house.

Full circle.

How about some photos for a snowy Wednesday.

Random shots from my gallery.

I love this plant arrangement my neighbour gave me before Christmas.

Sadly only part of it remains alive but it is alive and transplanted.

Teddy, Alvin’s BFF with a chew treat almost his size.

Me and my siblings when we were very young.

One of my most favourite photos.

Ah, my babies, so cute.

How can you not love those faces?

Aspen and Milo patiently waiting for treats and Alvin, not so much.

I love this old canister, a great find from our trip last summer.

Nothing like mountains in the smoke

Books, one of my most favourite things.

Ending with some pretty flowers.

Gotta run and catch my ride.

Happy Wednesday.

Special Hello to: my friends and family, you raise me up and keep me going.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Friday the 18th day of January, 2019.

Another COOLER, okay COLD day on the way, er actually it is here.

But warmer weather will be here by Sunday.

This weekend will be fun.

Teddy coming tomorrow morning and coffee with my younger girl friends.

Alvin’s Birthday is tomorrow and then his party is on Sunday with our family and Master Teddy.

I feel like this morning should include photos.

The boys, Alvin and Teddy from another visit.

So cute.

My grand-pup Miss Aspen, who takes a glorious photo but does not like having them taken.

Oh, our baby Milo.

A game of JENGA, anyone.

Mmm, LAVENDER.

My birthday present to myself (Antique Mall in AIRDRIE).

Would have loved to have had wagon wheels in my backyard, somewhere?

CANMORE, a beautifully lined trail.

Gotta love a little coffee shop with BOOKS.

I even managed to get a photo of a truck filled with logs.

Pretty flowers from years ago

Not from my yard.

Everyone needs a rose on a Friday.

Mmm, homemade pancakes!

Love Dragonflies.

Well time to fly.

Again, almost time to go to work.

I hope that you all have an awesome day and that one or more of these photos brings a fond memory to mind or just a smile.

Happy Friday.

Special Hello: to all my family and friends.

Always, Carol & Alvin

VACATION Summer 2018 – Thought for this day

Good Morning and Welcome to Monday the 20th day of August, 2018.

This kept me busy for most of yesterday …..

Welcome to my vacation.

Road trip from Spruce Grove-Edmonton to AIRDRIE, Alberta.

Momma and her daughter.

Take the scenic tour.

Most of the photos were shot as we drove down the highway.

Some poor “bugs” were lost along the way and I was sorry that their lives ended.

My daughter drove all of the way …..

We passed by many a red barn.

Some of the shots were blurry.

Most of those I deleted because why would you want to see those.

Oil digging machines.  Big round bales.

Beautiful green countryside.

Even time for a selfie when we were stopped for construction.

Those poor workers out paving the roads in the HEAT.

As my daughter would say ….. “Another photo of a sign”

I thought they would always remind me where we were.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN HOUSE.

They have had some of the best signs.

Okay perhaps the 7-Eleven sign was over the top.

Pretty flowers ….

Our first stop was CAROLINE.  I managed to get a photo of the Town OFFICE.

Disappointed in missing the entrance sign.

A map to show us the way (we had GPS, too).

Dirty windshield.

Sorry poor little bugs.

The trees were absolutely thick, green and glorious.

The highway just stretched out in front of us.

We stopped in SUNDRE for lunch at this local establishment.

The server/cook was amazing.Image may contain: 12 people, people smiling, indoor

They had a wall filled with Record Album Covers …. so cool.

We had to have a photo taken in front of it.

When asked us if we wanted dessert?

We hesitated and then said “sure” and she gave us Saskatoon pie for FREE.

We did not have to pay for the pie.

Can you believe it?

Such a nice person.

After lunch we headed over to a book store that my daughter had spotted on our way into the town.

Shout out to “CAMELOT BOOKS.”

Unfortunately per the owner only in business until end of August, 2018.

After all, one can never have too many books, right!

This was a used book store with something to suit everyone’s imagination.

No automatic alt text available.

They had some books over 100 years old.

Such treasures.

What a great place to stop and investigate.

I picked up two books of poetry that were printed before I was born.

So I know that there are some things older than me.  Ha.

After we spent some time checking out the books and of course leaving some of our holiday money at the bookstore, we were on our way once again

The way to AIRDRIE.

Somehow or OTHER I managed not to get a sign for AIRDRIE.

How did that happen?

Disappointing.

Three hundred and some odd photos and none of our destination, well that just plains SUCKS.

We arrived at AIRDRIE just after 3:30 p.m. and drove straight to the hotel to check in before heading to our REAL DESTINATION.

IT was the antique shop/mall named “WHERE ON EARTH …. DID YOU GET THAT?”

One of my daughter’s friends who lives in Calgary met us at the antique stop/mall for a visit.

She brought her Mother and baby son ….

Now for some reason I did not take any pictures of the store or the SIGN at this time.

What was I thinking?

Perhaps distracted?

After all I am or was almost “61” at the time.

After we hung out at the store for a few hours and it was about to close up, I asked one of the staff for the name of his three favourite restaurants in town?

He gladly gave me the names of them and even wrote them down.

We headed back to the hotel and found my youngest brother hanging out (waiting for us).

We went to a restaurant named “PEPPERCORNS” by the water which is in the background of the following photos.

At first we were wondering where the water was until we opened the blinds at our table and voile, WATER.

It was great.

Snapped a few photos.

Some of the homes lining the water were so pretty and their back yards …. well I was a bit envious.

We found these bushes by the water that were this grey colour with same colour berries.  Very cool.

Ducks as there should be in water.

The sun was setting and the smoke gave it an eerie look.

We had a great visit with my youngest brother from Calgary.

The next morning (Wednesday) instead of heading off to “DRUMHELLER” to see the dinosaurs we decided to go to the mountains.

CANMORE.

We could not believe how far out Calgary has grown – almost reaching AIRDIE.

Here are some shots of the ever growing city of Calgary.

HAZY due to smoke and heat.

Police van across the highway keeping everyone safe.

Photos of everything.

I had to get one of the truck hauling LOGS.

On the way to the mountains…..

I see mountains….. yay.

Sign for CANMORE.

We went to this bookstore in CANMORE.

Yup another bookstore.

So very cool.

On one side of the store there were new books and little gifts and on the other side used books and a coffee shop.

We had coffee and goodies …. coffee break.

We took a walk about Canmore and took in some of the local stores.

Vintage store.

We had lunch along the way.

The best CHICKEN and FISH TACOS ever (I am not sure that I have had them before but they were good).

I cannot remember the name of the restaurant.  Not a chain.

One of my favourite things was we bought locally made rings to mark our trip.

I shall treasure them forever.

I should have taken a photo of them.

I wear one or both of them every day along with the one that I purchased on our Mother/Daughter Trip to Jasper in 2009.

When we were on our way out of Canmore, we turned down a street and found this walk way by the river.  There was not much water in the river but the sights were beautiful.

This was a wonderful find.

Along the way ….. taking in the sights.

On our way back to AIRDRIE.

Shots from the car.

Everyone needs a shot of the big SHOPPING MALL sign.

Designer stuff ..

We laughed all the way about me and my sign obsession

.

Finally the morning we were leaving AIRDRIE and one last stop at our favourite ANTIQUE place.

I decided to take some photos.

Neglected to take a photo of the sign on the store.

But I took some photos of some cool items.

There were so many items that I would have loved to have brought home with me.

Alas not enough room or money.

I desperately wanted one of those wagon wheels for my back garden.

The rusted old water pump would have worked, too.

Just before I left …. five minutes before leaving the store.

On one last look about I found the item that sung to my heart.

THE ROOSTER WEATHER VANE.

Rooster is my Chinese sign.

This was my gift to myself.

It remains in my garage at this time until I find the perfect spot for it.

Likely will wait until spring to display it.

So grateful that I found the most perfect item.

On our way home.

More shots from the car.

Those buildings in the next photos …. store the big round bales.

Very cool.

More photos of logging trucks, not sure why.

Another red barn.

We stopped again in SUNDRE and hit the bookstore one last time.

I found ten more books …. love to read.

Construction ….. trees ….. this truck ahead of us ….. we followed him for over one hour…… we thought he was taking us home.

Cool churches, a tractor.

Electrical tower.

BACK TO SPRUCE GROVE.

Here are some photos of my finds from the Antique Store …. some for me and others for gifts.

Books ….

Teddy and Alvin ….. the day after we arrived home … Teddy came for an overnight stay.  We missed him.

So that was our trip.

We had a blast and have vowed to do it again next year.

We only have to convince my daughter’s husband, my son-in-law that it is a good idea.

Just kidding …..

We were gone for two nights – three days but had the best time.

Saw my little brother, the mountains, ate in great places, shopped in book stores and antique shop,  and took lots of photos of signs.

What could be better than that.

Oh, spending time with my daughter and my little brother.

Okay ….. done.

Special Hello to: my daughter who is the best travel partner ever, thank you.

Always, Carol & Alvin

PS:  just in my office putting the finishing touches on this blog before going to POST.  I sat down in my chair and Alvin came up to me and put his paw on my leg.  He does this when he is asking “politely for something.”  Here he was asking for me to put his blue blanket on the floor as I had forgotten.  How cute is that?  I love this little guy.  Makes my heart sing.

Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Friday the 10th day of August, 2018.

Yesterday was my 61st Birthday and was the day that my daughter and I returned home from our three day/two night vacation/road trip.

We had a blast.

So much to share.

We returned to my daughter’s home about 7:30 p.m. last night; had supper and then my son-in-law drove me and Alvin home.

Once home it was after 8:30 p.m. – quick unpack job, went to see Humphrey the cat (we are on cat sitting duty) and cannot forget Cinder the gecko) – water flowers and set up the FANS.

Good to get home.

HOT temperatures on our trip.

Our trip was great.

We will be also watching Teddy for the next couple of days so this post will be short as he will be here shortly.

I just wanted to touch base and let you know that I have returned.

I have so many photos to share.

We even changed our travel plans slightly.

Another blistering hot day on the way and I am ever grateful to have a couple of electric FANS plus the furnace fan to cool the house down.

I will be back.

With stories and photos.

Special Hello to: everyone for the birthday wishes.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Monday the 6th day of August, 2018.

Gorgeous sunny morning although there are some dark clouds looming in the sky.

Alvin and I went for a walk about 8:30 a.m. as the forecast is to be hot.

Tomorrow is the BIG DAY.

My daughter and I are taking a two night – three day road trip.

I cannot wait.

I certainly will miss Mr. Alvin but he will be in great hands as he is staying with my son-in-law.

He will have company with Miss Aspen and Baby Milo.

The house is quiet now as all of our company left yesterday.

It was more than I could ever have imagined it would be.

Everyone had a great great time including and most especially me.

Alvin is resting and not even hungry.

Makes me think that he had too many TREATS.

My neighbour will look after the house and water our flowers.

Our flowers have been absolutely magnificent this summer.

The best ever, I would say.

The pots are overflowing with blossoms of pansies, petunias, daisies, lavender, snapdragons and a couple others that I do not recall their names.

There are purples, pinks, corals, yellows and some mixed with white.

Delicate and perfect.

Also my poor sunflowers took a beating the other night in the storm and are bending over.

So will find something to stake them, give them some support.

Perhaps now before it gets hot.

That flower bed should be a bit more dry now.

I am so blessed.

I am surrounded by wonderful, kind, generous and supportive family and friends.

I have Alvin as my companion.

I am able to live in this dream house with a yard and deck space for entertaining and for flowers.

I am in great health.

I am happy to be alive.

I live in a great neighbourhood and city.

I am learning something new everyday.

I can make my own choices and decisions.

It is good to be me.

It is great to be me.

Happy Day.

Well time to get some work done.

One more post before I go on a mini break with my daughter.

Have an awesome Monday.

Special Hello to: all those folks who read my blog; I am forever grateful.

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Tuesday the 10th day of July, 2018.

It is a beautiful morning here in Edmonton.

Alvin and I went for a walk at 5:00 a.m. just as the sun was beginning to rise.

The sky was different hues of pinks and red/oranges, so pretty.

There was not a soul out until we were on our way home and then we saw a lady and her pup.

Thankfully it was cool even without a breeze.

We opted not to walk last night as I felt it was too warm for us.

Perhaps more for me …. I don’t know.

I am always aware of Alvin and his fur coat.

Well it is Tuesday.

The traffic is humming at this time as people make their way to and from work or perhaps just leaving on a vacation.

We are pet/house sitting for a neighbour this weekend.

The next weekend my daughter and pups are coming for a sleepover weekend, yay.

Then basically one week until my sister, niece and great nephews arrive for a visit.

So excited.

Then I will be off on vacation for about 10 days.

During that time my daughter and I will take a road trip together.

I cannot wait.

Will miss Mr. Alvin but will be good to get away.

I always love my adventures with my girl.

We try to go off the beaten trail just a bit (but being safe) and get some amazing photos.

Our office is closed while we install a new version of our computer program.

During the closed time we will be in training and spend some time cleaning our workspaces and odds and ends.

Always something to do.

Excited to see this new version in place.

Well almost time to leave for work.

I was able to cool the house down some with the windows open and the fan going.

Will go downstairs and spend some time with my boy.

Perhaps he needs another massage.

Have an awesome Tuesday.

Keep safe and cool.

Be kind to those around you and always try to do the right thing.

Not necessary your “right” but what is best in the situation.

Special Hello to: my family, near and far.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Saturday the 21st day of November, 2015.

So quiet this Saturday morning …. not many lights on as I gaze out of the office window.

It is about 7:45 a.m.

I love the stillness.

When Alvin and I were up earlier at 5:30 ( I managed to keep him in bed until then, then up, he had breakfast, and outside. ).

I have been putting on my coat and boots and going outside as well.

Good way to let me know what kind of weather I will be going out into later.

It is actually beautiful outside.

So we will have good weather for our day trip to Ponoka.

Alvin will be home and my neighbour will be with him.

Still no sign of the rogue you know who.

I have to check the basement …. I forget last night.

I spent over one hour going through photos picking out some to take to my nephew as I have heard that he loves his photos albums.

He has two soon to be three.

I spoke to his brother last night …. seems our boy is at a crossroads.

His mind is telling him he is better and he wants to go home but he is not ready.

The short term memory is playing havoc with his therapy.

He is doing exceptionally well considering the place from which he came but my no means is he ready to strike out on his own.

Last year for his birthday my daughter and I took him a birthday cake.

We are doing the same this year.

Last year he was in a coma and this year he is awake.

Progress for sure.

Well I should get this show on the road.

Have to get ready and have breakfast and finish putting the photos into the album, my poor fingers were so cracked from the dry air that I had to stop.

Have an awesome Saturday.

One thing to remember .. NEVER GIVE UP.

As long as your mind realizes there is hope …. there always will be.

Special Hello to: my sister, I will give him hugs and kisses from you …. talk to you later.

Always, Carol and Alvin
