Last Half 2022 – November

Good Morning ALL! I hope that this post finds you doing well. Hard to believe today is Monday, November 28, 2022. Almost the end of November 2022. Where has the time gone? Almost time to start the countdown to Christmas. Do not want to start too early, lol.

Yesterday I borrowed my neighbour’s car and went shopping to the nearby strip mall where I went to Shoppers Drug Mart and Bone & Biscuit and Save-On-Foods. The first place that I went to at Shoppers was the Post Office to mail a small parcel and Christmas Cards, what did I find, CLOSED sign. I was grateful to find out from a clerk who happened to be walking past that the Post Office would open at Noon. This was about 10:45 am, so that was okay. I had some things that I wanted to pick up at Shoppers so I consulted my list on my phone. Sometimes I bring a paper list but this time it was more efficient to have the phone so that I could delete the items that I bought without carrying a pen. After that I headed to the Bone & Biscuit to pick up Christmas gifts, possibly a new sweater and harness for Mr. Alvin, only to find that it was closed until noon. What is this new business, lol? So I took my purchases and placed them in the car and was off to the grocery store which I knew for a fact that it was open. When I arrived inside the store I grabbed a cart and consulted my list. There were a number of customers in the store but it was not too bad. The cashier was young, friendly and I really appreciated the way that he packed my groceries. I almost forgot to drop off the batteries that I had placed in the bags provided (they were in with my bags that I had brought to the store). Old batteries dropped off. Another items off my list but in hindsight I forgot to grab more bags! OH well, next time. I checked over the receipt to ensure that nothing was charged incorrectly as he had initially charged the wrong price for a non-food item that I had picked up for a gift. Who knew that I would find something that was requested on my pick for Secret Santa. Loaded up the car and then back to Shoppers to mail the parcel and Christmas cards including one to Sweden to my longtime “pen pal” Ingrid. No lineup, how wonderful. Then I was off to Bone & Biscuit where I checked my list for the items that I wanted to purchase for Mr. Alvin, Aspen and Milo for Christmas. I found a sweater, new leash and toy for Alvin and then a toy each for my grandpups. Success. I even received 10% off my purchase due to the points that I had accumulated. Then back to the car, loaded up and on my way home.

Once I was home, I unloaded the car with a few trips and then returned the car keys to my friend. She was down with something and had been resting on the sofa. Poor girl. Her boyfriend was relaxing on the sofa, just having a quiet lazy day. He drives long distance trucking. Alvin was enjoying sniffing around the bags. I had to put the bag up that had his Christmas present in it. They must put something inside those items or else just the scent from the store lingering, I do not know because I semi hid the bag in the spare room behind a large rubbermaid which is containing other Christmas presents and he keeps going in and sniffing. He cannot get to the bag with his gifts but he sure knows something is in there. Funny. I unpacked and as I was putting the groceries away, I realized that one item was not there. I looked back over everything and not there. So I texted my friend to see if I could borrow her car once again and before you know it, I was on my way, back to the store. ARGH. Back at the store, a young man who had just come back from bringing cards into the store, came back to Customer Service and asked if “he could help me,” I said yes and explained the situation. He said that he remembered one of the cashiers had a list of the items that were left at cash and had returned them to their places in the store. He just had to find the list. He found the list and then another clerk came to Customer Service. They were able to secure another item for me and then I was on my way. YAY. Normally, I would have not bothered but this item was almost $10.00. Too much money to throw away. After I put everything away, I got Mr. Alvin into his harness and sweater (not new ones, although I did try them on and they fit perfect) and we went for a walk. I was so fast trying them on that I think he will forget what they looked like, lol. We enjoyed a walk. Then back home. I decided to bring up the ladder and change the light bulbs and clean the light fixture by the back door. Could not get it down so I texted another neighbor’s son to see if he could come and help me, he said yes. In the meantime, I replaced a bulb in another fixture. I am so blessed and was happy to get these chores done and for the help. I e transferred him some money for helping me as this was the second weekend in a row, I reached out to him. I cleaned out and rearranged the back cabinet / pantry before starting supper. After supper it was a quiet evening.

Whoops time is slipping away and is almost time to start work. I have the coffee ready to plug in.

Have a great Monday. Stay warm.

Continuing to live this life with kindness, respect, compassion, patience, love, laughter, understanding, gratitude, focus, possibilities and coffee.

I am grateful to be surrounded by great people.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Living … One day at a time.

Well Good Morning.

I took this day off from work so that I could have an extra long weekend and to just relax.

We were up at 6:00 as Humphrey is spending the day with us.

Relaxing on the sofa we watched several episodes of “My Lottery Dream Home.”

It was interesting to see the amount that folks would spend on a home which was clearly dependant on how much they had won.

There were winnings from $1,000,000 to $7,700,000 in the shows that I watched.

I can honestly say that I have my Dream Home, without winning the lottery.

However, I would love to be mortgage free.

We had a great weekend from Friday night to now.

I managed to finish writing up all the cards and letters that are to be mailed.

I will be walking over to Shoppers Drug Mart to mail them sometime around noon or so.

Today is just a bonus so we will just enjoy each other’s company.

We enjoyed a full walk yesterday afternoon.

The weather is supposed to be nice today as well so we will pop out for a walk a bit later.

I want to call a couple of our friends.

One we keep missing each other so I want to chat with her today.

We also want to check in on Teddy’s Mom as she is not working today.

Well that is all for today.

Oh, I should mention this as it was quite disturbing in a way.

My neighbour had picked up some of the Almond Milk the containers not kept in the store coolers.

When I went to open a new one this morning, I realized that the outside seal on the lid had been broken (not by me) and inside the tab had been punctured.

So clearly not a great idea to use this.

I mentioned to my friend and she is going to see if the store will exchange for a new one.

Always a good idea to ensure that the safety tabs/seals are not disturbed.

You never know what could have happened.

Okay time to get dressed as it is getting late here.

Enjoying this day for sure.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day ……

Good Morning and Welcome to Sunday the 6th day of December, 2015.

Today is the Birthday of my dear cousin “J.”

Alvin and I want to wish her the very best day and a wonderful 2016.

Yesterday was a productive day for me.

This is what I accomplished and in no apparent order:

  • Alvin had his pedicure, we took a Christmas card and photo of us and had a nice visit with Dr. K and the staff.
  • Made special coffee for my neighbour.
  • Did four loads of laundry.
  • Continued to write up Christmas cards and have only a handful left to write up for the office.
  • Cleaned the bathrooms including the toilets.
  • Swept the floors upstairs and on the main floor.
  • Went to Shoppers Drug Mart and used my Optimum points and scored $85.00 FREE.
  • Went to Save-On for groceries.
  • Changed my land line to our HOLIDAY GREETING.
  • Cleaned the kitchen.
  • Cleaned the pantry.
  • BAKED:  two kinds of COOKIES for a total of 7 dozen and made three batches of FUDGE. (started baking at 7:30 p.m.)
  • BED AT 11:45 p.m.

We had a great day.  It was funny at the end of it all – I did not have a sense of accomplishment.  This morning when I wrote down what I had done, it feels great.

Today it is back to baking.

As soon as finish this and have breakfast.

Baking SUGAR COOKIES today …… that is my number one priority.

Also it was so strange after going to bed so late …. we woke up at 7:00 this morning …. now of course, Alvin wanted to get up earlier but I coaxed him to stay in bed.

I felt so awake and ready to begin the day and it was 7:00 a.m. – seven hours after we went to bed.

Now I should have just stayed up and by now would have been baking but alas my inner voice WON out and we went back to bed thinking okay I will get up at 8:00 ….. nope whenI woke up it was 8:45.

Joke’s on me.

I am not sure why this happens but it always does.

We should just stay up when we wake up …..

Oh well …. time to get this baking day underway.

Thank you for reading my blog ….

Special Hello to: my cousin “J” ….. hope you have a wonderful day cousin …..

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Saturday the 5th day of December, 2015.

Another beautiful morning here in Edmonton weather wise and life wise.

I am feeling very blessed AND

There is a tad bit of being overwhelmed this morning with the list in my head of what needs to be done.

It is almost nine …. ARGH …. I had to sleep in ….. likely not the best plan but nevertheless I did.

Alvin has a pedicure this morning at 10:00.

I need to run to Shoppers DrugMart and Save-on (grocery store).

Laundry needs to be done.

More Christmas cards to write and deliver (not all today of course).

A few miscellaneous items.

Clean the HOUSE ….

BAKING ….. today and tomorrow.

Somedays it would be lovely to have a car, I think.

Oh well once I get my list written up and get that first cup of coffee into my belly, I will be much better.

Just do one thing at one time.

I should not be complaining as I lead a pretty great life.

Okay enough of WOE IS ME…..

I have my own home, I have family and friends who love and support me, I have me Alvin here, I have employment and I am in good health.

So much to be thankful for ….

If you are feeling a bit low and just need that boost.

Take a minute and write down all of the things you are grateful for ….

Come on …. there is always something to be thankful for ….. grab that pen.

I am going to get this day started and we will have fun …..

I love to bake ……

Have the best day everyone.

Special Hello to: my sister …. yes, we will SKYPE tomorrow evening.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day…….

Good Morning and Welcome to Friday the 18th day of July, 2014.

A bit later than usual here because I was at work for 6:30 to help with a pancake breakfast.

It was a huge success.

Today is the parade for our “K Days” which is our summer fair or exhibition.

I wanted to share a cute story with you all.

Yesterday morning after my visit to the dentist, I had stopped at Shoppers Drug Mart which is almost next door to my dentist to pick up an umbrella.

I had walked to the dentist from my house and managed to stay dry.  (my last umbrella broke and I had not replaced it).

Mother Nature was kind ….. it started to rain hard after I was at the dentist.

So after I picked out my umbrella I walked over to cash to pay for it.

There was an older woman ahead of me and the cashier said to her “I gave you a present.”

The woman smiled, paid for her purchase,  said “thank you.” and walked away.

As the cashier rang in my umbrella she said to me “I gave you a present.”

I thought to myself “sweet” and not thinking to ask (as my mouth was frozen and I didn’t feel much like talking) …. just finished paying and left.

As I put my receipt into my purse I checked the receipt and saw in capital letters ” SENIORS DISCOUNT. ”

My mouth dropped even lower, and I thought to myself “she thought I was a senior” and then followed by “hey I got $3.00 off my umbrella” ….. SWEET.

I laughed to myself all the way to the bus stop.

I guess in some places I would be considered a senior and there are times sometimes in the early morning and late at night that I feel a bit “senior.”

Then I was thinking that perhaps because with the freezing in from the dentist my mouth was all droopy and there is nothing like that to age a gal.

Oh well …… makes for a cute story …..

I hope that you all are having a fantastic Friday.

Time to go and have a walk with Mr. Alvin before it gets too hot.

I work tonight so it would be very late when we walk tonight.

Happy Friday.

Always Smiling……

Special Hello to: my fellow bloggers ….. keep writing ……

Always, Carol and Alvin

I am still stuffed from the pancakes and am very grateful for the treat.
