Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Thursday the 3rd day of August, 2017

Well the day is drawing near.

Putting the final touches on the preparations.

Mowed the back lawn and fixed up the yard in the back.

Inside, just a few more last minute details.

One more sleep and that would be tonight and then tomorrow later in the evening we go to the airport to pick up my sister.

My daughter and I will pick her up from the airport.

Mr. Alvin is going to be surprised.

Company.

He loves company.

Thank you again to my friend who sent me the most thoughtful birthday parcel.

So kind and I love everything including the “treats” for Mr. Alvin.

He knew as soon as the door opened that he had something coming.

My, how I wished that my sense of smell was that good……

In between all of the wrapping and the box – he could smell his treat.

He did not even eat supper until I unwrapped the parcel and gave him his “treat.”

I would say that we are both terribly spoiled.

Thank you again my friend.

Well here we are once again and it is almost time to hit the road ….. to the bus stop.

One more day after today to work and then vacation until August 22, 2017, first day back.

So excited.

No words.

Have an awesome Thursday.

Special Hello to:  our friend “V.”

COUNTDOWN: 60 Days to 60

Today is Sunday, July 23, 2017 and it is the 18th day until my 60th Birthday.

What makes me happy? joyful?

Simple things, actually.

I love walking with Alvin in the earlier part of the morning before it gets warm (in the summer).

I love reading a good book.

I love sharing a good cup of coffee with my daughter and all my friends.

I love snuggling with me Alvin on the sofa watching a movie.

I love good food, nothing complicated, simple, honest food.

I do love chocolate (try to do in moderation not always successful).

I love to laugh with my sister and my brothers.

I love ALL time spent with my daughter.

I love doing creative projects with my daughter whether jewellery making or something else.

I love good conversation with my super knowledgable son-in-law.

I love sitting on the deck in the summertime gazing up at the stars.

I love the simple things in life.

The smell of a baby.

The smell of the roses that line the pathway to our parks.

The touch of a cool breeze on my face.

Walking through puddles of water and splashing (just like a little one).

The list is a mile long but always simple things.

Always, Carol

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Wednesday the 22nd day of March, 2017.

The wind has been howling and blowing for the past couple of days.

What starts out being warm temperatures then becomes chilly.

I think that I will don my long winter coat …. just because it covers most of me and has a warmer hood.

Yesterday morning I was cold waiting for the bus.

Well spring is officially here now for a couple of days and feels like March, should feel.

Mixed.

March is like your hormones out of control.

One moment warm and sunny and the next blowing and snowing.

Anyway that is okay.

In less than two weeks it shall be April.

Everything always feels better in April.

Have you noticed that?

Also Easter is in  April this year.

April brings back lots of fond memories for me.

Not likely for the reasons that one would consider but they are for me.

We are very blessed in Canada to experience different times of year or seasons.

There used to be more of an actual difference between them but not so much anymore.

Lots of countries have two seasons:  the raining one and the dry one.

We have spring, summer, fall and winter.

Some years spring blends into summer and fall into winter.

I remember crocuses in the spring and the smell.

The smell of spring.

There was a freshness with the snow melting and the rains starting.

Summer, we begin to feel the sun’s heat more and our summers felt longer.

Fall …. another one that held definite smells and feelings with the warm air and cool breezes.

Winter ….. well snow and cold.  I do not remember as many warm days during winter as now.

Well almost time to hit the road once again.

Take a look back to your youth what do you remember about the seasons?

Did you have four or two?

The differences between then and now?

Perhaps nothing has changed but I think there have been more changes than some are willing to admit.

Have an awesome Wednesday.

Special Hello to: my friends all over the world.

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Thursday December 31st, 2015.

Happy New Year’s Eve.

Normally Alvin wakes me up around 5:00 a.m. to have his breakfast.

Not this morning ….

I was laying awake when just after 7:00 a.m. the sound of sirens came closer to my house.

Jumping out of bed, I saw the first fire truck stop just on the other side of our duplex and then a second one stopped right in front of my house.

SCARED ME.

We went running downstairs ….. I could not see a fire anywhere ….

I opened the front door and did not see anyone out front.

We could hear the neighbour (not in the other half) but next door’s dog HOWLING.

I quickly fed Mr. Alvin his breakfast.

I put on my boots and we went out onto the deck and all of their lights were on …. Capone, their dog was pacing on the deck.

Something was wrong.

Alvin howled alongside for support.

There did not seem to be flames and no one from inside the house including the firemen were outside.

So that was a good sign.

I did not want to go out while the firemen were there so I just kept an eye out.

They were there for almost one hour ….. then they were gone.

So I decided to go to D & K’s and see if there was anything that I could do.

D & K and all four of their children and Capone were in the living room ….. reeling from what had just happened.

K said that the alarm detected smoke and went off but they were unable to find the source.

The fireman diligently checked every electrical outlet and the walls and could not find any fire.

While I was there …. we determined that the smell which the firemen said smelled like burnt wax was coming from the furnace register/vent by the front door.

We surmised that perhaps one of the young ones put a plastic figure or wax crayon down the register/vent.

The furnace had not kicked in so they turned up the thermostat and that smell definitely came from the front register/vent.

*********************

I decided it was time for me to go home and offered my home for them if they needed to have the vents cleaned or whatever.

So home I came …. figured I had better get my blog wrote and have breakfast just in case they come over.

What a morning …. thank goodness everyone is okay.

This is a reminder to folks with small children to make sure that toys do not get put down the registers/vents.

We can breathe again.

Mr.  Alvin was worried for sure when he heard Capone howling he had howled in return.

So glad that all is well.

I was going to blog highlights from this year …. or perhaps plans for this next one but instead the Universe decided differently.

So I shall take this opportunity to put the word out:

A reminder for all …… be sure that you have smoke detectors and that they are in working order.

A fire extinguisher …. they have one … I do not, and I will be purchasing one right away.

Make sure that you have a plan in case of an emergency.

DO NOT LEAVE CANDLES BURNING UNATTENDED.

Your life can change so quickly …. make certain that your house is safe on this New Year’s Eve and every night.

Take care.

Special Hello to: EVERYONE …. Happy New Year’s Eve.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day….

Good Morning and Welcome to Wednesday the 30th and last day of April, 2014.

Whoa where did April go?

It was an interesting April of 2014, I shall say.

We are grateful that here in Edmonton are skies are bright and blue as the sun rises in the east.

We hope that the snow that has fallen to the east melts quickly and that our neighbours in Saskatchewan and eastward have our weather soon.

Thank you.

Mr. Alvin came in to take a look and sniff at me as this morning I decided to wear a “skirt.”

This is not an usually sight in my house.

In fact, this is the first bare legs I have had since last summer.

Feels good to not have material covering my skin although my skirt is longer.

I am so happy is we are just about to touch “summer.”

Although you know that spring is my favourite season; summer and fall come in a close second.

I also do not mind winter.

I guess I am a all season lover.

Lover of all seasons.

You always have to take it all to appreciate the high points.

That is life.

So on this last day of April – let us be grateful that:

– we are alive

– we have food in the fridge

– we are surrounded by family and friends

– we are surrounded by love and laughter

– we have blessings in all shapes and sizes

– we can hear the clock ticking

– we can taste that good food in the fridge

– we can smell the fresh air

– we can see the bright blue sky and that perfect sunrise

– we can walk to the mailbox

– we can buy that cup of coffee on the way to work

– we can talk and communicate

– we have each other.

Have a great day.

Special Hello to: all those amazing human beings that read my blog and every blog ….. thank you.

Always, Carol and Alvin
