Good Morning ALL! It feels like forever since I last wrote a post. Well Christmas is all over for yet another year. We had a fantastic Christmas. My daughter’s friend who just happens to be a pharmacist tested us all on Christmas Eve and yes, we were all NEGATIVE. Definitely one of times when I wanted the results to be negative. No worrying about securing an A+ grade. We ate until we almost burst on Christmas Eve filling ourselves with, let me see if I can remember the menu. Hot Cheese Dip with Baguette, Butterfly Shrimp, Mozzarella Sticks, Boursin Cranberry with Cracked Black Pepper Cheese “Ball”, crackers, Guacamole with corn chips, vegetable tray, and a sweet tray of baking. We also had nuts and chocolate. I see where the CHEESE was the star of the show. Likely not the best plan but oh well. We enjoyed the food. After we ate we played a game that my son-in-law got for Christmas (he opened it early), BLOCKBUSTER. Now we did not have the patience for the rules so we made up our own and I never laughed so hard. We had the best time. The game is all about movie trivia. So much fun. After the game was over we opened gifts. Now this is funny, I am now thinking after we ate then we opened gifts and then played the game. We were up until after 2:30 a.m. No, pretty sure we played the game and then opened gifts, yes that is correct. We played the game until about midnight and then it took us 2.5 hours to open our gifts. We opened one at a time. Then we had fours pups with gifts although the only one really interested in opening gifts was Alvin, Mi-Mi did make an attempt. I always love watching Alvin as he impatiently opens his gifts. He had his paw on the bag and then with his nose and mouth pulled out the tissue paper. So much fun. He loves opening presents. My daughter had a couple of her stocking gifts laying beside her, wrapped and he was tearing open the paper. Cute not someone was not impressed, lol. I was happy to see that the pups got along. Earlier I had been concerned that perhaps Mi-Mi and Cookie would be at odds but they were not. Actually a couple of times the quiet Miss Aspen let out a sharp bark at Cookie when she got too close.

Everyone was spoiled this year. I made quite the haul. I believe everything on my list with the exception of having my mortgage paid in full was under the tree. Some of the things that I had asked for were: Debbie Travis’s new book about life, filled with photos and recipes AND Rebel Homemaker, the first cookbook from Drew Barrymore and Chef Pilar Valdes, filled with photos, recipes and stories. Also on the list were fuzzy Christmas socks, Cuisinart paring knife, Bath & Body Works foaming hand soap, and a Day Planner for 2022. In addition to these gifts, I got a package of Player’s choice scratch tickets and won $5.00. Ecologic Paper Towel which can be used 200 times and is biodegradable and a Packet of tea. I also received a poinsettia plant and turtles chocolates from our guests. Late in the afternoon on Christmas Eve, some friends dropped a card and baking off for me and some treats for Mr. Alvin. We are so lucky. Mr. Alvin received from his sister and family – a cute Reindeer stuffed toy and from his momma – the most beautiful blue and green turtle. He also received more edible gifts. So we were totally spoiled. That was Christmas EVE. We did not get to bed until after 2:30 closer to 3:00 on Christmas Eve. The kids had our room and our guest the “guest room,” me, Alvin and Cookie slept on the sofa except it took awhile to get a little someone to settle down. I had placed the baby gate up so that she could not go upstairs and she whined until I got up from the and placed her on the “green” chair with Rudolph, her favorite sleeping spot. I had to do this about 10 times before she finally stopped. So it was well after 3:00 when we got to sleep.

Alvin woke up at 5:00 and then we were up about 7:30 to stay up. Not much sleep. Most of the house was up about 8:30. We had coffee which we all needed. It was us girls that were up and my son-in-law stayed in bed for awhile beyond us. Amanda’s friend left about 10:00 as she was going to pick up her girls and open gifts with them. We invited them back for supper with us.

We had a late brunch with quiches, the veggie tray and some cheese. Lots of coffee was drank. I made a second pot. Throughout Christmas Day, I quietly putzed. Taking the gifts out from under the tree and reorganizing them. Washed the dishes that did not fit in the dishwasher and once the main floor was tidied up, I went to the basement and put away the gift bags, folded up the tissue paper – all to use another day. The kids had done some wrapping in the basement after they arrived on Christmas Eve. Once the cleaning and tidying was done, I had some more coffee and checked out the recipes for fresh cranberry relish and dressing. We had a quiet but enjoyable afternoon. We had planned to have supper about 7:00 p.m. but our company arrived a bit later, and then she wanted to test her daughters with the rapid covid test (like the one that we did the night before). It was closer to 8:00 p.m. when we had supper. The girls were negative. Thank goodness everyone was negative. We had a lovely supper of roast chicken breasts, whipped garlic potatoes and gravy, dressing, fresh cranberry relish, corn, peas and homemade buns (from one of my friends). Our dessert was baking which consisted of fudge, sugar and chocolate chip cookies, butter pecan tarts, chocolate caramel candy and some cookies from the BON TON Bakery. Anyway, we ate too much but it was good (if I do say so myself). Usually I do not like to make new recipes when there is company but both the dressing and the relish were so good. Will make them again.

The girls opened their Christmas gifts from us.

After clean up, we sat down and had another good game of BLOCKBUSTER. My son-in-law and I took on the other four girls. They won but it was a close fun game. We close on a Christmas movie category. Can you believe that I lost on the category? We named so many movies before we could not name anymore. If I could have included all of the HALLMARK movies that I have been watching – we would have won but they were excluded. Oh well.

Dee and the girls left just before midnight. We were in bed shortly after. This time the kids took Cookie to bed with them. She settled down and we all had a good night sleep. In fact, it was not even Mr. Alvin who was up first – it was the other pups at 6:15. My daughter and I fed the pups and then laid back down again. It was almost 10:00 when we all woke up. I guess we needed the sleep. I was happy that the kids decided to stay for another day.

We had a bit of breakfast and visited. My daughter and I had packed up most of their things.

The best gift of all was not really a physical gift but my son-in-law arranged for me to go to the INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION, to go to space via a virtual reality headset. Both my son-in-law and daughter had tried it and warned me that I may be dizzy or nauseous and that I may not be able to keep the headset on for a long period of time BUT I surprised then when I squealed with delight during my space trip. I got to literally touch the space station, saw the stars and the sun and earth. I felt as though I was an astronaut in space. It was the most coolest experience of my life. I would have stayed there all day long. I loved it. After the space trip, I was able to go Africa and come up close and personal with a zebra, saw giraffes and an elephant and a large cat not a lion this time. I definitely would like to do this again and again. I had no idea that you could buy virtual reality headset – I thought it was only in the movies.

After the VR experience, I packed up food for the kids and they loaded up the car. They left for home in the afternoon. Then it was just me, Alvin and Cookie left. The noise and excitement all done for another year. We had the best Christmas ever. So much fun.

Well I have trapped Alvin and Cookie in the office with me and they are getting a bit restless so time to sign off. I wanted to catch you up in our last two days – in our Christmas.

The outside temperature is bitterly cold. Minus 30 without the windchill. Supposed to be cold all week. I guess we won’t be going anywhere. I am grateful that I asked my daughter to pick up more food for Alvin and as it would turn out that is the only food that Miss Cookie will eat. Yikes. Oh well. At least she is eating.

Time for a shower and to rescue the pups from the office.

Hello,

The sky is overcast and the wind is blowing this morning.

No rain overnight.

We slept through the night.

All is well in our household this morning.

Back to work.

Canada Day weekend coming up.

Always love a long weekend.

 

Have you ever snapped photos that made you think of a different time and place.

Perhaps reminded you of a story line or gave you inspiration to write a story all your own.

These photos were taken several years ago on a beautiful late summer, almost fall weekend day.

Alvin and I were out on a walk.

We went to a park north of our home.

One place that we seldom visit.

For no reason other than it does not come readily to my mind.

It reminds me of a magical place.

A place with many trees.

The soft shadows.

The colours of the trees that were already beginning to turn.

I love the way the sun creeps into the space.

Lightly touching the trees and grass.

 

I know that it is barely the first week of summer but somedays you just need to see a magical place.

A reminder of the beauty of a single day.

A day with your buddy.

Just hanging out.

Taking in the spirit of the day.

We all need these days.

Reminder to self to go on this walk this coming long weekend.

Living … One day at a time.

Hello,

Overcast but warm morning.

Last night on our walk after work we just enveloped all that the world had in store for us; not rushing.

We found one of our neighbours who is also a good friend outside in her front yard.

Honestly they have the most wonderful yard …. the grass is the RICHEST of GREENS.

She planted her flowers and the colour gives an extra vibrancy to the space.

Absolutely gorgeous.

We chatted for several minutes.

Alvin just enjoyed the time.

He rolled about in the grass and then sat nicely.

Which is odd.

But appreciated.

After a time we continued on our walk.

As we approached the pond/park we kept our eyes focused for the baby geese; the goslings.

None of the family were to be seen.

Perhaps they were in the tall grass out of sight and interruption from humans and animals alike.

The dandelions are slowly taking over the grass in the park with their brilliant yellow flowers.

I personally like them when they are in flower.

Oh well.

We continued on our way until we reached P’s house.

Her husband called out from the upper deck where he was tending to the grill.

Our friend was down below and came out to meet us.

We went into the yard where I was again taken to another place by another beautiful garden.

P has the most exquisite flowers.

She has a green green thumb.

There were flowers blooming all over her yard.

We chatted and caught on the latest news in our lives.

She is our walking buddy.

Not every night but most.

Well I slept in and it is getting close to time to leave.

I hope that you all have a wonderful day.

Oh, almost forgot we have a family of birds living / nesting in our birdhouse in the back yard.

So excited.

I took photos with my new cell phone but have to figure out how to get them to my computer.

I am certain that it is easy.

Another story for another time.

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Wednesday the 6th day of March, 2019.

March is just rolling along.

Last night after work my daughter picked me up to give me a ride home.

We made a stop at COSTCO.

Was busy but we found our items and got out in good time.

Alvin was patiently waiting for us at home.

He was as always happy to see his sister.

Sometimes he is a bit cautious as he thinks he may have to leave the house and go in the car.

Poor guy.

But nonetheless always happy to see his big sister.

My daughter stayed for a bit and then was on her way as she had errands to run before going home.

As always I am always grateful to see my girl, for the ride but more than anything grateful to be in her presence and for the great conversation.

Afterwards I got changed and grabbed Mr. Alvin so that we could go for a walk.

He does not really like having his coat and harness put on but once on he is ready to go immediately.

Hardly giving me time to get my coat and boots on.

Even though the temperature was considerably less than the past few weeks, the wind/breeze was cold.

So our walk was short but we got out and that was important.

Some fresh air and we also bumped into our neighbours and friends, also out for a walk.

My friend J’s doggie Jazmine is getting on in years and has some health issues, one being heart.

She was so happy to see Mr. Alvin.

She moved to the side so that he could take the lead.

It was so cute.

There walk was short as Miss J got cold and my friend ended up picking her up and carrying her back home.

Poor girl.

We then carried on but our walk was not long.

Fresh air, check.

Once home, I put Alvin into the house and went to pick up Mr. Humphrey.

He was spending the evening with us while his Momma was curling.

As always those two, Alvin and Humphrey always make me smile.

Alvin is a bit cautious around Humphrey.

He loves him – you can tell but …..

Funny story before I leave for work.

Alvin had been outside and when we came around the corner – guess what we found?

Mr. Humphrey curled up in Alvin’s spot on the sofa.

I could almost hear Alvin’s sudden anguish.

But he jumped up and sat near the end of the sofa.

This is when I managed to snap a photo of them sharing some space.

Afterward when I was drinking my tea …..

Humphrey stayed where he was but Alvin wanted to be beside me and that would be where Humphrey was …..

We managed to get things worked out.

At one point, it was Humphrey by the pillow, then Alvin right beside him laying down and then me.

I so wished that I could have snapped a photo.

It would have brought a SMILE to your face as it did to mine.

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Saturday the 2nd day of January, 2016.

I almost typed 2015 instead of 2016.

It will take a couple of weeks to do the year without thinking.

I am excited to think that in less than four years it will be 2020.

That will be so cool.

 

This morning the sky has a pale orange / white hue …. so very pretty.

It has been wonderful the past couple of mornings to see the sunshine.

We have been getting up to stay up later but with only one morning left before going back to work …… we had better get up earlier tomorrow.

I always like to have a practice run if you will …… just so it will not be such a shock to the system.

 

Well yesterday Mr. Alvin had his bath and he looks so handsome ….

I think he feels better.

 

Last night I went to my friend’s house for supper and a visit ….. there were three of us friends and neighbours.

After supper I ended up going and getting Alvin ( just felt badly that he was home alone ).

Alvin spent the first I would say half an four sniffing about the whole main floor …. every corner …. every inch.

My friend “A” has a cat named Cricket and they get along pretty good.

There were a couple of times that she was a bit miffed with him as he went into the bathroom where her litter was ….. she went in …..

Alvin raised his paw and backed away.

We went in and brought him out …..

But it was okay ….. proud of the boy.

He did not chase her and she did not chase him.

They kind of respected each others space.

 

Had an awesome evening …… home kind of late …… but that is okay.

Not something that I do very often if ever but something I need to do more.

We are going to take turns hosting supper and evening.

All three of us are single ….

We each have a four-legged friend …. two dogs and one cat.

I look forward to that …. my turn is next.

Am thinking of Italian ….. pasta and stuff.

 

Well time to get dressed and get this day started ….. we need bananas and I need a bus pass for work.

So will have to make a trip to the grocery store and the drugstore.

Only a six minute walk …… should go this morning.

Supposed to be another mild day so will go for a nice long walk with Alvin this afternoon.

Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Sunday the 8th day of November, 2015.

Oh my goodness such a wonderful Saturday had by this Momma and Mr. Alvin.

We started out having coffee and tea with our friends …

The room was filled with love and laughter.

So much laughter.

My friends are such great story tellers …..

After they left my daughter arrived ….

We put ourselves ready and were off to the Shoppers Drugmart Gala.

They had such good treats including the most delightful chocolate cake with pink buttercream icing ….. yummy ….. melt in your mouth.

The cake was made at the bakery in the nearby Save-On Grocery.

We played spin the wheel and received free items (makeup) and after making our purchases we received more free items.

Then we went to the grocery store and then home.

First thing after putting groceries away was to go with Mr. Alvin for a nice walk.

The weather was absolutely amazing for November 7th …… it was in the double digits.

I think about 13 or so degrees celsius.

We are making some new items to add to our Dear Stella Jewellery Collection and worked on them over the course of the evening.

Something totally different and new.

Very exciting.

We started the process last night …..

I made stir fry for supper which is my daughter’s favourite.

Also preparing for an upcoming craft sale.

This morning after we have pancakes for breakfast we will be working out how our table will look for the sale.

We are sharing the table with my neighbour.

Four feet …. that is what we will have for space.

Well I had better get this show on the road.

What an awesome weekend.

Thought for the day ……

Good Morning and Welcome to Wednesday the 24th day of June, 2015.

It is a gorgeous morning here in Edmonton ….. the sun is shining ….. bit of a breeze ….. birds are singing.

We had a shower last night along with lightning and thunder…..

Well, it is pretty much perfect.

Alvin is laying outside the office on the rug with his front paws crossed over and his back ones (that is a bit of surprise) and from time to time he opens his eyes and stares at me.

He is quite the character.

Definitely an early bird.

4:30 a.m. …… seems to be his time to get up.

He wakes up around 4:00 – 4:10 or so and then I manage to get him to settle back down until 4:30.

Then 4:30 strikes ……

Alvin always does the “Ask Nice” …. by placing his paw on me …. how can you refuse someone with manners?

I am so grateful that our sofa is comfortable as sometimes I get some of my best rest there.

Oh well, that is my boy ….

Set in his ways.

That is middle age for you.

Four sleeps until my daughter and I go to see our nephew who was in the coma and is now in a brain-injury rehab hospital.

They have the best facility and he is making great progress.

My sister, her boyfriend and my youngest brother are going to meet us there.

She is coming from Regina and my brother lives in Calgary.

My sister’s fella has a son and family in Calgary.

Family all over the place.

It will be great to see everyone on Sunday.

Well here it is almost time to go and catch the bus …..

Seems like I just walked in the door after work.

One other thing I wanted to share ….. this morning in my bathroom which faces north ….. the blind is not quite down and there is about a space of one inch where the sun is coming in …… the sun ray glistens as it goes across the room as if it were a runway of diamonds.  I do not think that I have noticed this before now.  It is absolutely breathtaking.  Tiny diamonds floating across the room.  YAY …… would that be nice or what.  Likely dust particles or something.  Too scientific for my brain at 6:25 a.m.

Okay time to run.

Alvin who has been still (which is highly uncharacteristic of him) suddenly pulls on his leash and brings me forward with a jerking motion, as we are now within touching range; my heart almost stops and I gasp aloud.

Suddenly I hear the sweet soft voice of my sister “Grace” telling me “Do not worry” as my mind spins confused; I do not know what to say as I just stand there close enough to smell their scents.

I can hear Alvin sniffing, and as I turn my head to see what is happening he has jumped up on Edward’s legs wanting attention, and the reaction is startling.

“Please stop”, I yell at Edward, as I dive toward them.

Edward had reached down and pulled Alvin up by his harness holding him tightly in a football hold; as my poor boy whimpered, and all the while squirming to get away.

I was only a few seconds behind Alvin as I went tumbling through the air, and much to my surprise landing in Jack’s arms.

All of a sudden I realize that other than the few words that I have uttered in the minutes that I have been surrounded by my siblings; that not one of them has spoken a word; how odd.

I now remember that Grace had told me “not to worry” but did I actually hear her speak those words, and in between the noise and confusion in my head, I hear my Alvin whimpering as he wants to get down.

At this very moment, I really do not know what to do; screaming for help will not do me much good, and besides they are my family even though I have a funny feeling they are not from here or maybe it is that I am not from here.

This just seems so surreal, and in the moments that pass I am unsure and slightly frightened by all that is happening but I do know one thing for sure – I have to rescue Alvin from his hold and soon.

In the next moment, I decide to speak to “my siblings” perhaps I can get the Edward to let Alvin down so that he will not be frightened, and as I think about it; Edward releases Alvin who runs to my side.

Everything seems to be happening so fast and so slow all at once … I am grateful that Alvin is once again safe near me.

I must do something, and then suddenly without warning I hear all their voices invading my mind, and then one at a time telling me all is well and that you are safe here, but where is “HERE?

I certainly feel like screaming my head off but that definitely is not the answer and, as I have been so preoccupied with Alvin and the “siblings”,  I have not noticed that the fog has already lifted considerably and I can now see what is ahead of us.

Slowly, and with reluctance I follow my escorts, and of course, Alvin is right by my side (which is unusual for him) as we near the entrance to this place.

Approaching the entrance to the building each of my escorts falls into line with me and Alvin being in the middle, and as we enter the archway to the interior of the building I feel a strange energy raining over us; leaving me feel oddly clean and warm.

Alvin shakes as if he has been in the bath and oddly enough I feel as though droplets of water are hitting me with his every shake, am I going crazy?

So that being the case we truly are not on our planet or at least not on the same plane of existence ,so now what; I am starting to feel a sense of hopelessness but at the same time a sense of intrigue fills my mind.

As I begin to look around and take in our our new surroundings I notice how clean and void of bright colours things things seem to be;  and there is something about the silver, white, pale blue colours that is refreshing and almost healing.

All there seems to be are walls and columns, no desk or chairs and I do not even know if this would be considered an office or not; where are the computers and such and other people.

As I turn my head, and begin to rescan the room I notice a table with what appears to be a computer and behind it a bright green chair, and I know they were not there a few moments ago; my mind starts racing with visions of a million things.

Suddenly odd items begin to pop up all over the space that surrounds us, and I feel a small pang of power; it feels as though my imagination is coming alive as I see a beautiful pink dress hanging in mid air.
