The New YEAR 2022

Good Morning ALL! How are you this Sunday morning? Guess what here in Edmonton, well in my neighbourhood last night it did not freeze. Our temperatures remained over 0 therefore no frost on the windshields and most of all the water that is ice in front of my house, is still water. So all of my hard word yesterday remains. Yesterday afternoon after laundry was almost done, Alvin and I headed out for a walk. So many neighbours were out chipping away at the ice. It was like being on the red carpet and stopping to say hello to people on your way inside the theatre. The walk that in good times would take us about 6 minutes ended up being just over one hour. We had so many good conversations but sadly not from the sidewalks as we had to walk on the edge of the street where cars would park. Even that was icy so we were very careful. All the neighbours kept saying “be careful, it is icy” Isn’t that nice that everyone cares about us. I thought so. Quite often times, people do not know many if any people in their neighbourhoods, I can honestly say I know more people than I do not know. Thanks largely in part to Alvin and I walking for all these years. When I was “single” before Alvin joined my family I used to walk every day for a minimum of 2-5 miles and would meet people but then when I adopted Mr. Alvin in 2020, that changed. Our walks became much shorter and were concentrated in our neighbourhood and as we were slower and Mr. Alvin was/is so darn cute, we chatted more along the way. I met some of the most incredible people. People from all walks of life. We have the best neighbors and have made good friends with so many of them. Even though we did not get very far, we exercised our bodies a bit but most of all we exercised our hearts, minds and souls. That is just as important as exercising your body. So it was a great day. Later in the afternoon, I had an actual telephone conversation with one of my girl friends who lives a couple of minutes away. It was great. I have found sadly that I tend to “text” people more than call on the phone. Not something that I ever intended to do but just found that it happened. Likely because I like to keep in touch but I am not much for talking on the phone or at least not on a regular basis. That being said, I just had a 3.5 hour conversation with a dear friend on her birthday. She lives in Regina. Last night after fresh air and accomplishing the items on my to do list, we just watched movies. It was quiet and lovely.

This morning the sky is blue but not the sunny light blue and it is not filled with clouds either. Just that blue waiting for the sun to start shining kind of blue. I hope you understand my mish mash of an explanation. Thankfully it is warm outside. The temperatures are to remain warm for this week and we will definitely be happy about that.

Well time to get dressed (still in my pj’s) and head downstairs. I did bring up the towels that were in the dryer and clothing that was drying in the basement and put it all away before sitting down to do this post. I so enjoy on the weekends, just slowly starting. I guess at this point in my life, I have earned that right. Is that a right? Whatever it may be, I am enjoying it. I am so grateful to be here and now. I am grateful that both Alvin and I can run up and down the stairs (okay, maybe not run, as such). I am grateful for each and every day we have together.

I wish you an awesome Sunday. Today, I have to finish gathering up items to do my taxes. Sounds like fun, not really but needs to be done. We will try and get another walk in ……

Continuing to live this life with kindness, respect, compassion, patience, love, laughter, understanding, gratitude, focus and possibilities.

2021

Good Morning ALL! How are you this gorgeous bright sunny Thursday morning ( lol, I almost typed Wednesday)? Both Alvin and I are well. We got a good night sleep. Very grateful for the sleep. Always a great way to begin one’s day with a good night sleep. Alvin and I had a good walk yesterday and even though the temperature was in the single plus digits celsius it felt warm. By mid afternoon it was about 17+ celsius. Everyone was out walking. I had ordered my supper through SKIP THE DISHES. First time. I found out that between the delivery charge, the tip and taxes there was way less left on the gift card that I had received from my employer and I did not know how it all worked so I had to keep changing my order to have it fall within the “budget.” I thought by the charge of the food that some of the charges were included in the total but guess not. I am not sure that I would use this service again. Besides I am not one to order out for food. I do like ordering a pizza from Royal Pizza (best pizza place) once in awhile but other than that, I prefer to eat at home, something that I made even it was toast and eggs. Anyway, it was a nice change. At the end of it ….. I guess I helped give someone some earnings so it was worth it.

There is not much on our plate today other than regular old work. I am in the sixth week of training someone at work. Tomorrow I actually go into the office. My neighbour is going to check in on Alvin. He will definitely need to go outside to pee and need a treat during the time that I am away.

Saturday is supposed to be +18 or so and I have invited my two friends over for an outside coffee/tea visit in the morning on the deck. I have more than enough room to ensure that everyone is comfortable and is physically distanced from each other to keep within the restrictions set out by our health care professionals and government officials. I cannot wait. To share some stories and laugh, to laugh. Alvin is a pretty good story teller but laughing not so much.

Well I guess that is about it for today.

Keeping on smiling and laughing and staying well. Take some time out of your busy day just for you. If you have to lock yourself in the bathroom to do so ….. do it. Just relax.

Continuing to live this life with kindness, respect, compassion and patience.

Always, Love & Carol

2021

Good Morning ALL. How are you this fine sunny Monday morning? I am so lucky that today is a “day off” as the Province of Alberta celebrates “Alberta Family Day” Considered to be a stat holiday. My plans for this day are to gather my Steeped Tea and NORWEX paperwork for Income Tax. That time will come up soon enough and this time around I would like to be prepared. Also have to tally electricity charges, heat, internet and so on, those deductions that may be used in time tax when you are in business for yourself. I claim my commissions obviously as income. This is all in addition to my regular job. Anyway, that is the plan for this afternoon. Hopefully the temperature has warmed up enough that we can also go for a walk this afternoon. Yesterday I thought felt warmer was actually minus 28 celsius with the windchill. I guess it was warmer when compared to minus 45 or so with the windchill. Yesterday we had a great visit with my daughter. She stopped by the store and picked up a few items for us. I went out to the garage when she arrived, as this was the first time my daughter was driving the new car, well she backed the new car into the garage. It is huge compared to their other car, the KIA Soul. The back up camera got her parked within I would say three inches from my bistro table which is made of steel and river rock. That would have caused a serious dent. I am going to move that table so there is more room, I had not thought the car was that big but it is. Alvin was happy to see his sister. I helped carry the groceries into the house. When she came into the house after me, hand in hand with the most beautiful plant with pink flowers in a cute pink pot adorned with a pink heart, so pretty and a bag which she handed to me right away which I found to contain a box of one of my favourite treats from Dairy Queen – dilly bars. My other fav is the buster bars with nuts. I love the two and they are truly a treat for me. After the groceries were quickly put away, I made her a cup of coffee and began to dish the food. I made these egg treats which I am calling EGG MUFFINS ….. they are finely chopped veg (I used broccoli, red pepper, yellow onion and parmesan cheese) in the bottom of a muffin tin and then pour whisked egg over top. Easy peasy. So good. I also put in some spice and pepper but found that I could have added more spice for sure. We had sourdough bread toast with the egg muffins. The other thing to know is that I sprayed the muffin tin with a vegetable spray to help the muffins not stick. They did stick a bit but not too bad. We enjoyed our late breakfast/brunch/lunch together. Mr. Alvin was feeling left out and wanted what we were having of course. Afterward we enjoyed a couple of the “no bake energy bites” that I had chilling in the fridge and some coffee on the sofa. Our visits are always great and never long enough. But there is never enough time with my girl. When she went to leave a few hours later, she had asked if I wanted to drive the new car. I said YES. So I started the new car and drove it round from the garage down the back lane and onto the street that goes by the house and parked in front of the house. I must say it is a pretty sweet ride. I am so happy for them. It is a nice vehicle. Once we said our goodbyes, I went to the house and waved as she pulled away. Back in the house, Mr. Alvin had been watching from the window. I wanted him to see the car on the street so that he will know it is his sister next time she drives by. He knew the other car by sight. We received a text from Teddy & Kobi’s Mom that they had a Valentine’s treat for us and was wondering if they could pop by. Who can turn down treats, not me and Alvin. I always love when the pups come to the house ….. Teddy’s Mom puts him down and he runs like there is no tomorrow to the house. I of course, was ready with the door open and in he ran. Kobi’s Mom put her down closer to the house and in she ran. They jumped up and down so happy to see us. Their Mom came in mask covered to give us our gift which was chocolate for me and a bag of chew treats for the boy, and for a short visit. We always social distance. I feel so blessed that I had some company. Otherwise 24/7 it is only me and Alvin. Not complaining. Not complaining.

Well it is time to head on downstairs. I could not get my keister up from the sofa this morning so it was about 8:30 when we got up for the final time …. I will say that it was Alvin that got me up. He nudged me to say …. time Momma to get up. I am glad that he did. With a bright blue sky and sun shining …. it is going to be a great day.

I am grateful for all of our many blessings.

Continuing to live this day as all others with kindness, respect, compassion and patience.

It is a NEW YEAR.

Good Morning World.

Welcome to Sunday in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

The SUN is SHINING brightly.

I can imagine the birds singing as I sit here clacking away on the keyboard.

My trusty companion Alvin is laying on his blue blanket on the floor beside my chair.

The sky is the purest of the palest of blues that I have seen in a while.

YAY, I love Sundays.

The coffee is perking away and I am energized by the aroma as it wafts throughout the house.

Life is good.

Last night I was invited to attend a “paint night” with my young friends.

We had a hoot.

The painting is not actually painting in what we traditionally know it to be ….

but rather with this little plastic stick of sorts you pick up a bead that has a round head and flat bottom and lay it onto the picture.

It reminds me of paint by numbers but the picture is sticky and you attach beads.

The pictures are pre numbered of course and they are small beads.

All of our paintings were different views of the sunrise and sunset.

Morning, daytime and evening.

I cannot wait to finish mine.

Definitely longer than a one evening project.

I only did about a 1/4 and then stopped to just concentrate on visiting with my friends.

But so much fun.

We chattered away catching up on our our news and the world’s.

All three of us brought some goodies to share.

There was the taco dip and chips, veggie and fruit tray and dip, “energy bites,” goldfish and breton crackers, and this crazy yummy chocolate pudding with whipped cream and graham cracker

crumb dessert.

We had coffee and wine.

I am so grateful to have these gals as my friends.

We support and love each other.

They have young families so I am kind of like the Grandma or an older Aunt.

I have seen their children grow over the last almost ten years.

They were really just babies when I moved here and met them.

The laughter that emanates from the room when we are together is crazy.

I love these ladies.

Well time to head back downstairs and have some of that glorious coffee.

Just relax for a bit before changing and getting on with the day.

I have towels in the dryer to bring up and put away.

I would like to go through and put in order my papers for taxes (yup, I did not put things in good order like I was going to at the start of the year).

Go for a walk later if the temperature is okay.

Yesterday morning we hopped quickly over to the vet to pick up some food for Mr. Alvin.

He has enough for maybe a week but sometimes hard to gage and I did not want to run out part way through the week.

Mmm, what else.

Get ready for work.

I know that I had a couple of other things on my list ….. wipe out the oven.

I hope that you had an awesome Saturday night with family and or friends.

Perhaps you spent the evening watching your favourite movies cuddling with your puppy dog.

Maybe you played cards or a board game with your kids.

Whatever it was …..

Have an awesome Sunday.

Life is good.

Be kind and respectful to one another.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Hello My Beautiful Sister ……

It is a NEW YEAR.

Good Morning and Welcome to a beautiful Wednesday morning.

I did not write my post yesterday as I was home from work feeling under the weather.

After sleeping and resting for the morning – Alvin and I went for a wonderful walk enjoying the sunshine in the afternoon.

Our streets are horrible.

Most especially in front of my house and my nearest neighbours.

At the other end of our street it is totally clear but that is a bus route.

Isn’t that wonderful.

We pay taxes.

I called the other night and the 48 hours runs out tonight at 6:00 p.m.

Please City of Edmonton do not disappoint me.

Please Mr. or Mrs. Grader please attend to this.

If they comes this morning most of the neighbours should be away to work.

I do appreciate their long hours at this time of year.

I hope so.

This is frustrating and annoying and dangerous.

The little boys going by in their trucks sure like to speed up and splash everyone/everything in sight.

I have seen it.

ARGH, some people.

Anyway, I am happy that spring is on the way.

This Sunday we push our clocks ahead by one hour.

Big News …

My eldest nephew is stopping by his Aunt’s house to spend the night on his way back to work.

I always look forward to catching up with him.

Well here it is almost time to leave once again.

Alvin let out a little some kind of noise, groan, I guess.

Wishing you all a wonderful Wednesday.

May you be surrounded by love and laugh, goodness and light.

Happy Wednesday.

Grateful to my neighbour for a ride to work.

Walking to the bus would not be much fun.

Especially on these streets.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Spreading kindness and respect to all I encounter.

Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Monday the 29th day pf April, 2019.

Wow, second last day of April 2019.

This morning the sunrise is crazy beautiful as it rises there are some puffy dark blue clouds that appear to be suspended from the clear blue sky above.

Looks like someone just added them with a paint brush.

Oh so pretty.

I was thinking this morning as I was getting ready for the day about how much we all take for granted our lives.

We take for granted our health, our family and friends.

Our jobs and our homes.

Usually it is not until we lose something or someone, that we realize this.

How precious every aspect of our lives is …..

When you can swing your legs off the bed and touch the floor and stand up.

Be grateful.

When you can turn on the tap and have clean healthy water to drink and use.

Be grateful.

When you can walk for exercise and enjoyment.

Be grateful.

Every time you make a mortgage payment on your home.

Be grateful.

Every time you pay your taxes be grateful as that money goes for health care, roads and more.

Every moment of every day is a blessing.

A blessing that we can breathe clean air.

A blessing that we are surrounded by family and friends.

A blessing that we have homes and a bed to sleep in at night.

A blessing that we have jobs to make that mortgage payment and to buy food.

A blessing that we are alive.

So on those days when you are feeling woe is me; remember.

Life is a blessing.

Be grateful.

Yes, I know perhaps there will be days that are less than perfection.

But at least we have those days.

Please do not spend your precious moments walling in self pity or complaining about someone or something.

Spend your time being grateful.

Life will always be better if you spend it in a state of gratitude.

Have an awesome Monday.

The sky is blue.

The clouds are delightful.

I am alive.

I have my buddy Alvin at my side.

Thank you.

I am most gratefully for all that I have and that I saw my kids yesterday afternoon.

Thank you.

Special Hello to: you and you and you.

Always, Carol & Alvin
