Living … One day at a time.

Good Morning and it is the first day of time change for Alberta.

We turned the clocks back by one hour this morning.

Nice too have it bright at an earlier hour for sure.

Happy November.

Well time to share yesterday.

As I realized Friday evening when my daughter I erected the Christmas tree and turned on the lights that they would have to be replaced.

Last year I had “YouTube” to see what suggestions others had regarding this subject.

There was really nothing that I had not thought of so I grabbed my trusty tin/metal snips in the morning and set to work.

In between was working on the laundry.

I had checked the weather to see what the day would bring and there was rain in the afternoon forecast so I set the timer for one hour and at noon,

we headed out for a walk.

It was actually quite nice.

Upon arriving back at home I checked on the laundry once again before setting back to snipping the lights from the tree.

I worked on the lights for a total of over 7 hours between morning and afternoon.

You never really appreciate how much “lights” there are on a prelit Christmas tree but there are a great many.

It was a painstaking process.

Snipping the little holders and in some cases the electrical cords.

Yes, they were unplugged.

My hands were cut and my arms scratched.

I wore a sweater but then got hot so off and on.

I had to stand on the ladder to do the top and found my ankles and feet sore after a time.

My back was throbbing at the end of it all.

I am most grateful that it is done.

Poor Alvin was whining throughout the time.

He was verbalizing how I felt.

Once done, I stopped to have supper and of course before I ate, Mr. Alvin had his supper.

After supper and cleaning up, I spent a couple of hours putting on a couple of strings of lights and the decorations.

Once sitting back and relaxing having a cup of tea, I realized something was missing from the tree.

My box of ANGELS and berries and such.

I was too pooped to go and find the container.

Located it this morning and will finish that later today.

In about one hour I am going to have coffee with the young ones.

My young friends.

So enjoy catching up with them.

Well that was my weekend.

It was a test of patience which I failed miserably.

As Mr. Alvin can attest to ….

Well failed miserably is likely a tad to strong as I did have time where I just settled into the work listening to Christmas movies.

Life.

I am happy that my tree is up and mostly decorated.

Looks pretty good.

Sometimes it is the little things that can test your patience.

Yup, the little things.

Time to get this show on the road.

I have laundry to put away.

Then time to get out of pj’s and go out for coffee.

Am looking forward to the break.

Have an awesome Sunday.

Sending you much kindness and respect for your day.

Always, Carol & Al

I

Living … One day at a time.

Good Morning and Hello.

Welcome to Wednesday.

Mid week day.

Earlier this morning when I was outside with Alvin ….. there was tiny snowballs being hurled toward the ground.

Mother Nature at her best.

The grass crunched under my feet.

Lots of leaves covering the grass having blown in from the front and neighbouring yards.

Reminder for one last rake before we have snow cover.

Hopefully I have that opportunity this evening.

Well today is our off-site Staff Meeting.

Even though I do not like time away from my work; I really don’t mind the staff meeting.

There usually are a variety of topics and something guest speakers and the FOOD is great.

Nice to kick back and listen …. no phones …. no computers …..

Last night Alvin and I enjoyed our walk.

It was cold so we stopped by at Teddy’s house.

As always Teddy and his Mom were so EXCITED to see us and asked us to warm up and stay for tea.

Well Alvin did not have tea ….

He did have a treat …..

It was lovely to have an actual conversation with someone who would reply.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

I have never met anyone like Teddy’s Mom.

She is always over the moon happy to see us.

So welcoming.

Both Teddy’s parents are such wonderful people.

I am, we are blessed to call them friends.

One of my nephews called me last night.

We had such a great conversation.

Another reminder to call people.

I must get better about calling family and friends.

I am blessed to have a ride to the meeting with a co-worker and home.

A little birdie reached out and told me that there is going to be a parcel in the mailbox when I return home this evening.

Cannot imagine who that might have been / be.

Looks like this is going to be “our” lucky day.

It all started with me accidentally stepping on some poop in the backyard …. thankfully with my yard shoes.

Guess this means I need a stronger flashlight.

The one that I have is very small ….. like a keychain one.

Time for batteries …. note to self ….. put BATTERIES ON THE GROCERY LIST.

Yup, I will …. right now.

Done.

No more stepping on poop and then having to take 10 minutes to clean said shoes.

ARGH.

That is what happens when it is dark outside.

Another good reason to get batteries and rake the leaves.

Well time to put the finishing touches on before my ride arrives.

Alvin will have to go outside one last time.

Nice to be leaving later for a change.

Happy Happy Wednesday.

Reminder to myself …. always be KIND AND RESPECTFUL.

We may be kind, I may be kind  but watch on the respect.

It is easy to be less so.

But so import to be 100%.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Living … One day at a time.

Hello,

Beautiful bright sunny blue sky kind of morning.

Hallelujah, it is Friday.

How about some photos kind of Friday post?

I snapped these photos just before my carpool arrived yesterday morning.

The brilliant GREEN brings joy to my heart and soul.

In the 4th photo you can just see Alvin watching me out of the window as he always does.

I wave as I get into the car.

To say good-bye – see you later.

Last night was a busy night.

After arriving home from work – Alvin and I went to the Vet to pick up his food, toothpaste and some treats, of course.

Then supper.

Then Teddy and his Momma came …. his Momma had tea ….. his Momma left and Teddy is with us until Saturday evening.

First night last night of the sleepover.

Final big thing ….. I got my hair cut.

Wanting some radical ….. something different in recent years for me.

A version of Anne Hathaway’s short hair cut.

Look how much hair was chopped.

I am not great with selfies.

This morning it looks totally different.

Before I had a shower …. well let’s just say that both Alvin and Teddy were a little scared to look directly at me.

Last night the first two photos and then the remaining ones this morning.

Teddy loves to throw the pillows around.

I love where he ended up …. at the head of the bed.

Well that is it for me for Friday.

Almost time to leave for work.

One more time to take pups outside.

Have an awesome Friday.

I will get better taking photos of myself.

Maybe ….. giggling aloud.

This weekend is me and the boys.

Tomorrow Humphrey joins us ….

So excited to spend some time with Alvin and his friends – our friends.

Happy Friday.

Always, Carol & Alvin & Teddy

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Friday the 15th day of March, 2019.

Last night was so beautiful but not great for walking.

I went out into the back yard – actually on the deck to pick up poop from this morning.

Yup, I know, another poop story.

But this is cute.

Alvin climbed up onto the snowbank that takes up half of the deck to do his business.

Me, in my slip on shoes, decided to go up and pick up the poop.

Everything was going well ….. Alvin turned around and was waiting for me.

I picked up the poop and went to turn to come down …. when due to my weight …. went into the snow and my shoe came off.

Ended up with a shoe full of snow.

Yup, I was walking in the snowbank with one sock and one shoe on.

I delicately balanced a couple of bags of poop and grabbed my shoe that was buried in the snow.

Not impressed but I kept my cool and just laughed it off.

Because really what else are you going to do.

So that was my Alvin story.

Note to self:  wear boots when in a snow bank.

We received a phone call from Alvin’s best friend’s Mom last night.

She invited us over for supper and a visit.

We had already had supper when she called and we were not going to walk because of the ice and water.

So Teddy and his Momma came for a visit.

I love the way the boys greet each other with so much energy and joy.

You can feel that energy in the room.

AS soon as Alvin sees their car pull up ….. he starts to wag his tail and bark his HELLO..

Then he runs to the door.

Usually I peek out to see when they are coming up the walk and then I open the door.

Teddy running down the walk and Alvin running from the house.

Just like in the movies.

So cute.

They say hi and into the house.

Run about …. grabbing a chew treat along the way …..

Just makes you feel like a million dollars.

They bring us great joy.

Whether separate or together….

We had such a great visit.

I shared with her one of Steeped Tea’s newest blends, a Rooibos tea called LUSH LEMON.

Oh, it was so nice.

I have been enjoying it for the past few nights.

We laughed and almost cried a few times sharing more of our life’s stories.

I love getting to know people …. we all have such wonderful stories ….. if only someone would listen.

I love to listen and so does my friend …..

Hard to believe it will be four years on July 20th that we met.

Yup, it was July 20th, 2015.

WOW.

We talked about how memorable Mr. Alvin is and that everyone remembers his name and him.

At the end of this month it will be ten years since I moved to Edmonton and into my very first house.

My first house on my own …

It has been and is so very wonderful.

I am a lucky girl.

So today is Friday.

The start of the weekend after we put in the day unless you are lucky to be at the end of your shift or perhaps you took today off.

I am excited for the weekend.

Tomorrow Alvin has his first pedicure and regular appointment since his surgery.

We were at the Vet to have his stitches removed a few weeks back.

You cannot see that he had surgery at all.

I also have to hit the grocery store to pick up the ingredients for the FRUIT PIZZA which was requested as my daughter’s “birthday cake.”

We will have to decorate and they are coming on St. Patrick’s Day so I wonder how much green, I have ….. mmmmmm.

Green streamers?

I know that I have lime green ones, yes, somewhere.

Tidy up the house.

YAY, family coming on Sunday.

We are having PIZZA for supper and FRUIT PIZZA for dessert.

It will be a pizza party.

Well here we go again …. time to leave for work.

Be careful out there as there is lots of ice, most especially in the residential areas.

Have an awesome Friday.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day early.

Special Hello to: all of you ….. you make my life, awesome.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Friday the 28th day of December, 2018.

The SUN is shining brightly in the morning sky.

Today is the birthday of one of my friends and neighbours “S” ….. Happy Birthday.

Alvin and I had company last night.

Two of our friends “A” and “J” and her pup JAZMIN came for tea and a visit.

A had mentioned about stopping by last night after work and then J called to see if okay for her to stop by.

I said bring JAZMIN and she wasn’t sure.

JAZMIN is getting older and has a heart condition.

Alvin and Jaz get along quite well and he doesn’t get too excited when she arrives.

It is as if they know.

Anyway J & J arrived first and we visited and then A arrived a bit later.

J & J left for home first so it worked that we had visits separately with them and together.

So nice to see these ladies.

Yesterday afternoon Alvin and I went for a walk in between doing some laundry.

His paws were starting to get cold as we neared Teddy’s house.

Strange thing … just as I about to say we could stop for a minute their garage door opened and there was Teddy’s Dad “W.”

He spotted us and I mentioned about Alvin’s paws.

W said that he was just about to leave for an appointment but there was time for us to say hi and for Alvin to warm his paws.

Oh, Master Teddy was so excited to see us.

Always, always warms my heart to see him.

W also mentioned that we should stop by tomorrow (which is today) as J, sister of Teddy’s Mom is going to be visiting.

So we will likely on our walk this afternoon stop by for a bit and say hello.

So this time off from work has been filled with resting and relaxing and visiting.

I am going to put together a coffee date with two other friends for tomorrow morning.

Our friend “V” called from Regina yesterday.

These days have been filled with phone calls and visits.

The best kind of days off.

I am also thinking of perhaps taking down the decorations on Sunday.

Well I guess it is time to get dressed and get this day going.

These later nights and sleeping in ….. well I will have to get back into our routine before next Wednesday (back to work) or the 5:00 a.m. is going to be painful.

Will have to check around and see what project I can take on for a few hours.

Certainly has been wonderful having this time off.

We wish you a great day.

WOW, the 28th day of December, 2018 …. almost a New Year.

Special Hello to: all of those folks who have time off from work and are just resting and relaxing. DO NOT feel guilty.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Friday the 26th day of October 2018.

The house is extra quiet this morning without our little friend Teddy.

He brings joy to our house.

Alvin misses him, I know as he is following me extra close this morning.

Guess it is just you and me for now.

Me and You, You and Me, Mr. Alvin.

Oh my boy.

Last night after arriving home to two excited pups.

I tried to let them go outside but both them ran to find a chew treat to take with them.

Teddy grabbed a toy first and shook it about and then finally after a few minutes grabbed a chew treat and out he went.

I cannot imagine how it must feel to not pee for that many hours.

In my defence, if there is such a thing, I had left pee pads out.

One in the kitchen and one in the front entranceway.

After eating and changing and some time to say hello, we went for a walk.

We walked Teddy home.

It was light jacket weather and oh, so beautiful.

So enjoyed the past few walks as the weather has been perfect.

The boys walked along side by side like two brothers OR father and son.

They have the same colouring so often times before close inspection folks believe they are related.

They bring a joy to my heart and settle me right down after my day.

Thank you my furry bundles of joy.

Thank you.

When we arrived at Teddy’s home, his Momma and Papa invited us in for tea.

Well me for tea and well Alvin straight to Teddy’s food dish.

Made short work of that….. what a guy.

Followed by treats.

Not quite sure where he puts all that food.

We had tea and a wonderful visit.

Well thankfully it is Friday.

I love Fridays and the weekends.

Time to do things around the house and spend time with Alvin and sometimes family and friends.

I love putzing about the house and yard.

I am ever so grateful that I am able to live here in this home and have a yard.

My heart is full with family, friends, Alvin, this house, this life.

I have enough YING and YANG to keep me going for several decades.

The perfect balance between home and work life.

Although I would love to find a way to make a living by writing.

Just have to do it.

Sometimes we are our own worst roadblocks.

Well almost time to leave for work.

I hope that you have an awesome Friday.

Take some time for you – always take some time for you.

If you are not in a good place you are not able to be in good places with others.

Special Hello to: my youngest brother who is starting to awaken a new dream, you can do it.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Friday the 15th day of December, 2017.

Wow, guess what happened overnight and earlier this morning?

Clear stuff coming down.

Yes, it was raining in the middle of December, 2017.

Kind of scary ….

Sure hope that it does not get colder over the course of the day or the STREETS, SIDEWALKS and ROADS will be ICY.

Be careful if you live in the Edmonton area.

For some reason the morning has evaporated on me and I am running late.

Up on time, not sure what happened.

Last night right after work my neighbour came over and I got a hair cut.

Makes me feel good.

She is quick and GOOD.

Just about the 15 minute mark and even styled.

Amazing.

Then about 1/2 hour later we had coming.

Our neighbour from down the street ….

We laughed and had a great visit.

So a good Thursday night.

Unfortunately we missed our walk so will go tonight for sure.

Well time to go.

Have an awesome Friday.

Take care.

Special Hello to: You ….. it is all about you, today.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day ……

Good Morning and Welcome to Thursday the 14th day of December, 2017.

Another beautiful day on the way.

Our TELUS guy actually showed up ten minutes earlier than scheduled.

They always give you a two hour window and mine was between 5-7:00 p.m.

He is the first one to be early.

The young guy said he was done early at the previous appointment which happened to be close by.

I would not have been home if I had not received a ride home from my daughter.

I had been thinking of going for a quick walk with Alvin so that was totally lucky.

Unfortunately after one hour of checking all the equipment and talking to several TELUS staff members, we were no farther ahead.

Problem not solved.

Oh well …… problem has been noted and I will be watching my bill.

So almost the weekend.

Tonight right after I get home from work – my neighbour across the street is going to come over and cut my hair.

I am so grateful to have her so close.

She charges reasonably ….. affordable.

So excited to have my hair cut for Christmas and the holidays.

Love the last cut and will get done same way.

After that …. hopefully time for a quick supper and walk before our company, another neighbour comes for tea and treats.

She is the wife of the man who fixed my dryer.

Alvin loves them as much as I do.

They are just plain great people.

Always have been great friends.

Well I guess I had better get the show on the road.

I am not typing quite as fast as usual.

My hand is feeling much better …. but still a bit swollen and sore depending on what task I am doing.

Happy Thursday.

Feeling good …. today.

Great day ahead.

Special Hello to:  my sister …… I am excited to speak to you …… maybe SKYPE on Sunday?

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Friday the 17th day of November, 2017.

Wow, now this week went fast ….

Last night after supper – I was invited to friends’ house who happens to be one of my neighbours.

I always enjoy visiting with them.

In the summertime, Alvin always spots them working in the yard so we stop by for a visit.

Last night it was just me going for a visit.

I always feel guilty when I leave him in the evening.

Now I seldom go out in the evenings for that reason.

My boy spends enough time alone.

Besides we need time to get things done before bed – which comes very quickly after work.

I had a lovely visit with my friends.

They are all decorated for Christmas.

Their house and yard are beautiful.

It was a wonderful Thursday night.

My daughter is picking me up after work (always nice to get a ride home).

Alvin will be pleased to see his sister.

Love our rides together …. chatting and catching up in person.

Well I hear some “poop” calling my name.

Yes, I said it.

Have to keep the back yard clean, you know.

He has to go somewhere …..

Have a great day.

Remember to smile and share laughter with others.

Always good to laugh.

Happy Friday.

Special Hello to: my sister ….. SKYPE soon?

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Saturday the 14th day of October, 2017.

It is dark out as it is still early – about 7:15 a.m.

We are preparing for our little visitor coming at 8:30 a.m. this morning.

It will be great for Alvin to have company for the day.

Two boys ….. Teddy and Alvin ……

Teddy is a young un and Alvin, well he has a few seasons under his “belt.”

They will do just fine.

So on this Saturday with it looking like deepest of night outside, I write this blog.

I do love having the sun rising when I get up in the morning but will have to wait for next year now.

Yikes I have the sneezes, bit of a sore throat and running nose (people are sick at work).

I have been drinking lots of hot tea (last night).

Will keep the liquids flowing today.

Perhaps throw in some honey.

Well better get this show on the road.

Happy Saturday.

Have some fun, do some work and then relax.

The perfect day.

Special Hello to:  all those folks that I have never met.

Always, Carol & Alvin
