It is a NEW YEAR.

Good Thursday Morning!

Another beautiful bright sunshiny day.

I am becoming more infatuated with clouds.

Noticing them more and more.

On our way home from our walk after work the clouds were so beautiful.

There was a shelf of them hanging down and above only blue sky.

I am not sure what the technical term is but they just sat there.

Just like a floating shelf.

Almost like they could hold an object or hide an object.

Beautiful and perfect.

This morning they are wispy and appear to be touching the blueness of the sky.

Clouds ….. mmmm

We had a great day with the pups.

Kobi did amazing.

She pretty much stayed upstairs with me and Alvin while I was working.

Teddy laid downstairs on Alvin’s bed in the living room.

She is so full of energy.

Kobi did her best to be close to Alvin.

He was not thrilled when she nudged him to play.

Sounded like a grumpy old man.

Reminded me of someone I know.

Not really grumpy but does not like to let on that he is not.

I did snap some photos and will post them another time.

Later on in the early evening – Humphrey from next door, joined us.

Truly was a day filled with friends.

This is an odd morning for our household.

Mr. Alvin has his annual teeth cleaning.

No food after 10:00 p.m.

No water after Midnight.

So I made sure to give him a little biscuit at 9:00 p.m.

I tried valiantly to coax him to drink some water at bedtime but to no avail.

He has been good this morning.

When we first got up and went downstairs, I asked him if he wanted to go outside and no.

He stopped by the pantry where his food is kept.

I explained that “this morning you go to see Jenn and Dr. K to get your teeth cleaned”

I only wished that he understood.

But when I said “still night time” and laid down on the sofa, he jumped up and laid down right beside me.

I tried to lay down as long as possible so that it would be easier for him.

We “slept” until almost 7:30 p.m.

Now I have things to do.

Part of which is this post and then a shower before we leave for his appointment.

His appointment is at 9:30 a.m. which is when they open.

Dr. K will arrive between 10:00-10:15 and then between 10:30-11:00 they will give him the anesthetic which takes about 20-30 minutes to take.

Then comes the teeth cleaning.

Jenn said he would be ready to come home about 2:30 p.m.

Knowing Mr. Alvin it will be much earlier.

But time will tell.

I will pick him up whenever he is ready to come home.

He also needs more food, his glucosamine chews, perhaps some wet food as a treat, shampoo and conditioner, toothpaste and a new toothbrush.

It is a big day.

Well time to go and hit the shower.

I hope that you have a wonderful Thursday.

Living with kindness and respect for all.

I/We shall remain,

As Always, Carol & Alvin

It is a NEW YEAR.

Oh what a beautiful morning!

Oh what a beautiful day!

Two of the lines from an old old song.

It is truly a beautiful morning.

The sky is a crisp blue with a splash of white clouds.

The sun is shining so brightly as it warms up the cool ground and all above it.

Tuesday it is today.

Already June 9th, 2020.

Yesterday we enjoyed a walk at lunchtime.

After work our walk was cut short by Mr. Alvin.

For some reason he saw a man coming and wanted to turn for home.

I am not sure if he actually saw the man or if he just wanted to go home.

Anyway 1.5 walks is okay.

The weather report for the next couple of days is 21 degrees celsius.

We shall take that and run.

So incredibly to have sunshine and over 20 degrees celsius.

We have had days recently that did not make it to double digits.

For June that seems out of the norm.

This Thursday morning,  Mr. Alvin goes to the Vet to have his annual teeth cleaning.

I am not fond of leaving him but I do know he is in great hands and that they love him.

So that helps.

One thing that I do know for sure is that he will not be a happy puppy.

Hopefully he won’t have to wait long.

When he wakes up – he is always ready to go home.

Usually they keep patients until later in the afternoon.

Not Alvin, they give me a call as soon as he wakes up.

Off, I go to pick him up.

He does well.

Hopefully his teeth are in good health and only requires a cleaning.

Fingers crossed.

Sorry have to cut this short as the boss is calling.

Perhaps he has to go outside once again.

Never take chances.

Wishing you a wonderful Tuesday.

Filled with love and laughter.

With kindness and respect.

I/We shall remain,

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Friday the 8th day of February, 2019.

The sun is rising and is bright in the late early morning sky.

The sky is clear and blue.

We are in for another cold day.

Well Mr. Alvin had his surgery yesterday.

The growth on his eye was benign, which was such a massive relief.

His teeth were cleaned and polished needing NO extractions.

We were happy about that.

This is the second year in a row.

He had his vaccinations, nails trimmed and the anal gland checked (we call it the bum squeeze).

I received a call from the Vet Clinic about 12:45 p.m. that his surgery was over, gave me the above details and that he was just starting to come out of the sedative.

We negotiated the time he was to come home.

Said okay for 2:30 p.m.

I called my ride right away and then waited for the time to arrive.

It seemed like forever.

I just wanted my boy back home.

When 2:30 p.m. did roll around and my ride picked me up, I was ready.

Upon arriving at the clinic, first off, I gave them a “thank you” card from us.

Then one of the staff went over the post surgery care, the bill (which was $200 under the low side of the estimate).

I was also given some pain meds for him, one per day for the next seven.

I was very happy.

Finally one of the staff went to get Alvin …. it was like seeming someone after being apart for many years.

We ran to each other.

I will admit that he was perhaps a bit wobbly.

He had one of those dreaded CONES around his neck.

My heart fell on the floor for him.

We were both relieved to see each other.

Finally as it had seemed forever.

I had brought his winter coat and harness so we had to remove the cone before putting his things on.

Just in case he needed to pee when we got outside.

Didn’t have to go so into the car with my friend.

It was awkward with the cone but we managed.

When we got home I realized that the cone would have to come off in order to get his coat and harness off of him.

First things first, some water.  He had a good drink or two.

Cone on and cone off as we figured things out.

He had some food and gobbled it down with no ill effects.

He definitely was hungry.

He laid down beside me on the sofa.

I figured if I would keep an eagle eye on him …. the cone would stay off.

Even the post-surgery care stated it only had to be on when unsupervised and at bedtime.

I was not looking forward to that….

My daughter and son-in-law had stopped at COSTCO and picked us up a few things.

Stopping in for a few minutes before heading home to their babies.

For the evening as we shared the sofa …. the cone stayed off.

When we went to bed …. I placed it on.

He made some heavy sighs that meant he was not comfortable.

Finally he seemed to settle in only that did not last.

I ended up removing the cone and placing my hand on his paw to keep him from placing his paw on or near his eye.

Even in sleep.

Now that worked for awhile before I had to move.

I placed the cone back on in the middle of the night.

He moved about and finally did lay down on sheet that I had folded up for him and his cone.

Unfortunately it did not last.

So off came the CONE so we could sleep.

We came downstairs at 2:30 and he went outside to relieve himself.

Then we went back upstairs until about 6:00 a.m. and back downstairs.

He had breakfast and his pain med.

Then to the sofa where we both crashed until just after 8:00 a.m.

What a night we had.

He is once again resting on his blanket near me.

Time to get dressed and get on with this day.

Breakfast and COFFEE.

Thank you to all our friends for the “best wishes” and concerns of Alvin.

He is doing well and we are safe and sound in our warm home.

Just happy to be spending the day together.

I did manage to get some housework done yesterday after Alvin went for his surgery.

Cleaned the main floor …. vacuumed and washed the floor …. dusted and stuff.

Which will give me a quiet day …. perhaps do some laundry.

Time to go.

Have awesome Friday.

Sun higher in the sky …..

Coffee time…. 9:10 a.m.

Special Hello to: my family and friends, thank you.

Always, Carol & Alvin

My boy yesterday afternoon just a short time after arriving home.

Oh, that dreaded cone.

Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Friday the 1st day of FEBRUARY, 2019.

Well winter is now upon us.

Snow, snow and more snow.

Temperatures taking a dip.

Was out shovelling the back deck for the pups about an hour ago.

Should have time to do some of the front before my ride arrives.

So what does one do when the snow is blowing and the temperatures are a dipping?

Answer: You surround yourself with puppy love.

This was my Thursday night.

Now poor Mr. Alvin even though he loves his best bud Teddy very much, he cannot seem to get past Teddy having a chew treat.

Even though he has one of his own.

Teddy just laid there all calm and Alvin was not calm.

Despite my valiant efforts to calm him, he just had to wait until Teddy decided to let him have it.

What a friend.

Alvin, what a spoiled guy.

Alvin finally ended up with both …. Teddy is way too easy going.

Out of site out of mind??

Teddy on the bed with a chew treat AND

Mr. Alvin in the hallway by the bedroom.

Oh, isn’t life grand.

Thankfully the boys slept well last night.

I had a great afternoon ….. teeth cleaning …… received my permanent crown, now I feel like ROYALTY.

Then had supper once the freezing came out.

Had a lovely evening with the boys.

My furry four-legged boys.

Well time to leave for work.

So grateful to one of my co-workers for coming to pick me up.

Taking the bus home tonight will be pleasant, I am sure.

Glad we have food and a warm place to be this weekend.

Hunker down and keep warm.

Special Hello to: all my friends in the west …. hope you are safe and warm.

Always, Carol & Alvin & Teddy

Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Tuesday the 15th day of August, 2017.

The sky is blue and there is a cool breeze.

Kind of warm in the house but comfortable with fan blowing.

We had our company from Quebec and Calgary visit with us yesterday.

It was great to see the children as the last time was 2011.

Cannot believe how they have grown …. I guess six years will do that ….

Nice to see their Dad as well.

Well we are just on our way to the Vet as Alvin has his teeth cleaned this morning.

I hope that he does well.

I feel so bad not giving him any water or food.

Funny thing he has not fussed about it which is surprising.

I am not having water or food either.

Would not be fair if I did.

Well better get going ….. have to see if he will go poop ….. before.

Have a great Tuesday.

Special Hello to: Any LEOS out there celebrating a birthday today.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Saturday the 19th day of March, 2016.

One day until it is officially SPRING.

Most of our snow/ice has melted here in Edmonton.

On the streets where the lawns face any direction except north the snow has completely melted.

Unfortunately our lawn faces north and remains partially covered in snow and ice.

The temperatures have been hovering about the 4-9 mark depending on the day.

The sun is shining this morning and that is always nice to start your day with sunshine.

Alvin had his “TEETH CLEANING” and nail trim yesterday.

We got dropped off yesterday morning at 8:30 a.m.

Alvin’s Doctor’s receptionist went over the paperwork and I signed where applicable.

Without much fanfare she took him to the back room of the clinic and I left.

I thought I would hear him bark but he did not.

I paused outside the clinic and tried to see through the window to the back …. just in case he needed me.

But he did not.

I guess he is a big boy now.

I did stop at the convenience store and pick up a lotto ticket ….. a win would be nice (more than nice).

The walk home felt strange.

The last time I left him at the Vet was 2010 when he had the CHERRY EYE SURGERY.

A long time ago.

When I got home ….. I had some water and toast ( as he was fasting overnight and in the morning, I did not want to eat or drink, that would not be fair).

Put on a pot of coffee and plunked myself down on the sofa.

With all those hours as pick up was to be about 4:00 p.m. – I could have …. should have accomplished many chores but alas I did not.

I did not even drink the whole pot of coffee ……

Approximately 1:00 p.m. the phone rang and it was Dr. Karen …… she told me the cleaning was over and that they had to pull “ELEVEN” teeth.

I almost fell off my feet ….. 11.

She explained that 9 were incisors and they are teeth that are barely rooted in small dogs.

It appeared that with grooming hair had got stuck in and around these teeth.

I do my best to brush his teeth but it is difficult to get back and all around.

He had two others and one was a main grinder / molar.

But all in all – he will not be slowed down eating as he has the majority of his molars which is good for a dog of his age.

She said that he was doing well and that someone would call me when it was time for him to go home.

It was near 4:00 p.m. and I just could not wait any longer ….. yes, I called.

The young lady on the other end of the phone said he was ready to go …..

I told her that I would be there right away.

Donning my jacket and shoes and his jacket …. I was out the door.

When I got there they had to go through the after surgery information.

Soft food for two weeks.

No brushing his teeth for two weeks.

That means no hard treats for two weeks.

Only soft foods.

They said no running up the stairs for today.

He has dissolvable stitches they said.

There might be a bit of blood from his mouth and that was normal.

and then there HE WAS ….. he jumped up and kisses me …… he did not look as though he had just had surgery.

I was so happy and relieved to see him.

We collected his antibiotics and painkiller, instructions and the receipt of the bill.

The total was just shy of $1200.00 ….

We are so lucky to have benefits and can stay awake to have our teeth cleaned.

He walked home with no problems.

I am happy to report that he drank a good amount of water upon his return home.

He had to wait until 7:00 p.m. to have 1/4 of his normal amount of food (had to be softened as well).

The hard part is softening his food.

I was told to put some warm water over his food and wait for ten minutes.

It takes quite some time which was hard for Alvin….

Last night he was so happy to eat as it had been since supper Thursday night.

The longest time in the world for Mr. Alvin that is for sure.

Anyway he kept the supper down no problems.

Had lots to drink with no problems.

He was kind of whining later last night so I was thinking that perhaps the pain medicine was wearing off.

Oh and the stairs …… HE RAN UP just as he usually does.

This morning I hid his medicine in pieces of bananas as he was so hungry, and could not wait for his food to soften.

I was thinking of picking up a few tins of food when I go to the Vet this morning as you see I forgot his blanket, his blue one.

I took it to the vet yesterday as I wanted him to have a piece of home with him….

They said he only whimpered a bit in the kennel ……

It has been a long long time, years in fact since he was in a kennel.

It is good to have that done.

Well time to get this show on the road…..

Breakfast for me, coffee, pick up the blanket and somewhere along the line some bananas as we had the last one earlier this morning, laundry and cleaning.

Special Hello to: my great niece …. I did not forget your birthday …. it just was not a good day for us.  Happy Belated Birthday.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day…..

Good Monday morning and welcome to the 8th day of April 2013.

Here we are ….. I hope that you had an awesome weekend.

Are you in spring mode?

What does spring mean for you and to you?

Do you think renewal?

Do you think “gotta” clean the closets and retrieve your summer clothing from the rubbermaid containers tucked away in the basement?

Do you think time to go through all of those clothes and give away the pieces that no longer fit because you have recently lost weight?

Do you think time to clean the linen closet, drawers and the basement?

Do you think time to go and have your teeth cleaned, eyes checked and annual check-up?

Do you think about babies being born?

Do you think about vacation?

Do you think almost the end of the first quarter of the new year and I still haven’t lost that 25 pounds?

Do you plan for summer?

Do you make a TO DO list for outdoor preparations for the yard and garden?

Do you imagine your flower garden?

Spring carries a lot for most of us.

I think we all think and do most of the above.

So on this 8th day of April …. with the night fading away and the sun now thinking about showing it’s beautiful glow…. we start our day.

I hope that you have the best Monday ever ….. filled with love and laughter, joy and abundance and FUN.

Have a great day.

ENJOY SPRING !!

Special Hello to: my sister …. time to SKYPE …..

Always, Carol and Alvin
