Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Sunday the 7th day of October, 2018.

One week into October.

The sun is rising in he morning sky and it is light but not sunny bright.

THANKSGIVING

This is the weekend that we give thanks.

We get together with family and friends.

Sharing a meal or two or three.

Sometimes we share a meal of turkey, sometimes ham or sometimes even lasagne.

Cannot forget the pumpkin pie.

It is not about what we eat.

It is about spending the time with family and friends, with loved ones.

Catching up on their latest news.

Being grateful for having them in our lives.

Being thankful for our lives.

Being thankful for the food that we share.

Being thankful for where we live, for this beautiful country – Canada.

It is also about giving back.

It is about sharing that meal with a neighbour who does not have family or loved ones nearby.

It is about opening your home to a friend of a friend who has no where to go.

Thanksgiving is about sharing what you have with someone else.

Thanksgiving is being thankful and being grateful.

Often times we go about our lives complaining about not having this or not having that.

But in the deepest of realities we have more than we NEED.

On this Thanksgiving Day I am grateful to be surrounded by loved ones.

To have more than enough good food to eat.

To live in my own house, the home I am providing for me and Alvin.

To be in good health.

To be able to watch the leaves falling from the trees.

To hear the songs playing on the radio.

To sleep in my own bed at night.

For all of this and much more; I am truly thankful.

Happy Thanksgiving from me and Alvin to You and Yours.

Special Hello to: ALL of my FAMILY AND FRIENDS – two legged and four – Happy Thanksgiving.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Wednesday the 1st day of November, 2017.

Woke up to SNOW, SNOW and more SNOW.

Poor Mr. Alvin did not wish to go out to the back yard.

The first snowfall always makes him hesitant.

We had an awesome Halloween.

I dressed up as a Hippie and it went over well.

Pretty comfortable costume, I will say.

That is the mark of a great costume – if you can comfortably wear it all day or most of the day.

We got to pick the best costumes at our office and at noon we had the best POTLUCK ever.

The food was great and the treats even better.

I had a pasta (macaroni) with cheese and veggies.

It turned out so yummy.

I wrote the recipe down.

That is the trouble I always make up recipes and then do not usually write them down.

I am getting better at writing them down.

Last night the first treater showed up at our house at 5:45.

I was sort of surprised to see the boy get out of a vehicle.

I asked him as he was older, I would say 11-12 approximately “if he lived in the neighbourhood?”

He said no.

I asked him where and he named an area about 10 minutes or so away.

AS I was asking questions, asked him why they would drive to our area and he said we give bigger and better treats.

Yikes, I thought.

So because we give better treats people are driving their kids here.

There were several vehicles that stopped and let kids out.

Some would be due to the weather but some come from elsewhere.

Funny ….

I had about 92 treaters.

There were a couple of times that my steps were filled with children so I may have missed one or two.

This is the least amount that I have had since I moved to Edmonton.

Two cute stories from last night.

First one:  the doorbell rang and there were three boys and a man standing just a few feet away from the steps.

I answered the door with the obligatory “Happy Halloween” and proceeded to hand out some treats.

The man stood more into the light and said “Hello” …. we just wanted to thank you again for bringing our dog home ….

One of the boys said “yes, thank you so much for bringing (cannot remember dog’s name) home.

I almost cried.

This is a dog that had accidentally got out of the yard.

Anyway, it has been about three years since this happened and every year they stop by to thank me.

How sweet.

Good deeds do not go unnoticed.

The second story …..  Alvin was on his leash as he loves to check out the children and as we know so many of them ….. he was right with me at the door.

One of the Dad’s said from the darkness ….. “Hi, Alvin …. he is so cute” and stepped into the light and here was this guy that I had met on the bus.

So Alvin is a star.

We had fun.

I took some photos on my tablet but unable to get downloaded but here are some from work and home from my camera.

Then gotta run.

Decided better not to post photos of people as I do not have their permission.  The two officers (reflections) were/are masked.

Have an awesome Wednesday.

Special Hello to:  you

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Friday the 6th day of October, 2017.

Another beautiful day on the way.

Last night we enjoyed our walk – it was shorter than usual as Alvin decided we should go home early.

But it was great all the same.

Also my daughter not only did she drive me to work after a last minute change in plans but she picked me up after work and came for supper.

We always love having her in the house.

She is my claim to fame.

She is my umbrella on a rainy day.

She is the light at the end of every dark tunnel.

She is the sunshine to my days.

I am most grateful to have been blessed with my darling daughter.

On this upcoming Thanksgiving weekend – we should all take some time to be grateful.

To be grateful for the food in our fridges, cupboards and pantries.

To be thankful for family and friends.

To be thankful to live in peace and in the best country on the planet, Canada.

To be thankful for clean air and drinking water.

There is so much to be thankful that the list would fill many pages.

Take care.

Have an awesome Friday.

Keep the faith.

Be kind and generous.

Special Hello to: my sister ….. miss you.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day…..

Good Morning and Welcome to Wednesday the 10th day of September, 2014.

Today is the day that I say thank you for this venue or medium or platform or however you wish to describe.

Thank you for this platform so that I can meet new people from all over the world.

Thank you for this medium so that I can write my words for me and the world to read.

It was only a few years ago that I wrote my words in notebooks and in my heart.

It was only a few years ago that the only people who read them were a select few family and friends.

Now I can write them one second and the next someone in North Carolina can read them.

We have closed the gap, I hope on all of the things that were a mystery between us all.

By that I mean ….. where we live …. how we live and so on.

Maybe it was not a real mystery but perhaps just things we did not readily know.

So today I am grateful that I can turn on my computer and read the words others have written and learn about them.

We have made it easier to be closer together.

After all we share this beautiful planet together and we should know about one another.

Happy Wednesday.

Happy Sharing Day.

Take a moment and perhaps read a story written by someone from another part of the world.

Get to know them and their little piece of this earth.

P.S. I still use notebooks ….. nice to have a choice.

Special Hello to: my friends all over this EARTH.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day….

Good Morning and Welcome to a Wonderful Wednesday the 12th day of February, 2014.

How are you doing this fine morning?

I hope that you are feeling great and are ready to start the best day of your life.

Did you say “thank you” for everything in your life as you arose from bed and got ready to start the day?

Did you eat a good breakfast?

Am I starting to sound like your “Mother?”

Time to “laugh” ……

Both of the above are so important to getting off to a great start.

Being thankful and grateful for being awake and alive.

Being thankful for food in your belly.

Being thankful for clean drinking water.

Being thankful for your loved ones.

Being thankful for your job.

When you are thankful for what you have   –   you are allowing more to come into your life.

So on this mid week day be grateful.

I hope that you have the best day of this New Year.

Happy Wednesday.

Special Hello to: EVERY SOUL ….. YOU ARE IMPORTANT TO US ALL.

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day…..

Welcome to Tuesday, October 30th, 2012…..

I just want to take this opportunity to say to all those people on the eastern seaboard …. you are in our thoughts and prayers …. we hope that you are all safe, warm and dry.

Hopefully Sandy will dissipate sooner than anticipated.

So on this calm, late autumn day in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada where we have a blanket of snow covering most of the ground …. we are thankful for that covering.

This is one of those times where neighbours help neighbours and we help one another.

I hope that everyone has a wonderful day wherever you are and that you are with your loved ones.

Take care.

Special Hello: to us all ….. we deserve and are worthy of greatness …..

Always, Carol and Alvin

P.S. you know something is very wrong when the late night talk shows have no one in the audience.  Thanks Dave for putting on a show anyway …. I only watch a few minutes but I was impressed.
