2021

Good Morning ALL! How are you this gorgeous bright sunny Thursday morning ( lol, I almost typed Wednesday)? Both Alvin and I are well. We got a good night sleep. Very grateful for the sleep. Always a great way to begin one’s day with a good night sleep. Alvin and I had a good walk yesterday and even though the temperature was in the single plus digits celsius it felt warm. By mid afternoon it was about 17+ celsius. Everyone was out walking. I had ordered my supper through SKIP THE DISHES. First time. I found out that between the delivery charge, the tip and taxes there was way less left on the gift card that I had received from my employer and I did not know how it all worked so I had to keep changing my order to have it fall within the “budget.” I thought by the charge of the food that some of the charges were included in the total but guess not. I am not sure that I would use this service again. Besides I am not one to order out for food. I do like ordering a pizza from Royal Pizza (best pizza place) once in awhile but other than that, I prefer to eat at home, something that I made even it was toast and eggs. Anyway, it was a nice change. At the end of it ….. I guess I helped give someone some earnings so it was worth it.

There is not much on our plate today other than regular old work. I am in the sixth week of training someone at work. Tomorrow I actually go into the office. My neighbour is going to check in on Alvin. He will definitely need to go outside to pee and need a treat during the time that I am away.

Saturday is supposed to be +18 or so and I have invited my two friends over for an outside coffee/tea visit in the morning on the deck. I have more than enough room to ensure that everyone is comfortable and is physically distanced from each other to keep within the restrictions set out by our health care professionals and government officials. I cannot wait. To share some stories and laugh, to laugh. Alvin is a pretty good story teller but laughing not so much.

Well I guess that is about it for today.

Keeping on smiling and laughing and staying well. Take some time out of your busy day just for you. If you have to lock yourself in the bathroom to do so ….. do it. Just relax.

Continuing to live this life with kindness, respect, compassion and patience.

Always, Love & Carol

2021

Good Morning ALL. How are you doing today? Another partially sleepless night in Edmonton at our house. I gave Mr. Alvin his very last meds prescribed after his surgery and was hopefully that we could get back to a somewhat routine but alas it did not happen last night. We went to bed about the same time as pre surgery and we were up and down for the next two hours or so. I guess it is possible that his body is now missing the drugs that he was given. Likely similar to when we come off some kinds of prescriptions. I do remember one of the nurses saying when I mixed up the dose schedule remarking that the dosage is not high, is very low. So is this even a thing that he may or may not be going through. Perhaps it is just that his schedule has been all over the place during the last couple of weeks. He is still healing and I need to be patient. It is more than difficult to be patient when you are sleep deprived. Guess what first thing this morning and for the week – I am training a coworker. This will be fun for sure. Perhaps tonight will be different. When we came downstairs last night the first time we just stayed downstairs – on the sofa. Sometime between 11:00 and midnight, when he was up and down and wandering around the main floor, I decided that we would go back upstairs to bed. Hopeful that he would settle down on the bed with more room to spread out than the sofa and he DID. We slept until 4:35 a.m. which was good and then it was up and down every hour until I just stayed up. But some sleep as broken up as it was – is always better than nothing.

The sky is slightly overcast this morning. Even without the sun shining it is light earlier now and that makes it easier to stay up.

I cannot believe it is Monday morning already. Where did the weekend go? Yup, it evaporated as always. I did get most things done like laundry, household and almost finished my taxes. Just a bit to do and I will finish them this week. That will be a big job done.

The weather channel shows plus temperatures for this week and I am grateful. I booked Friday off as a vacation day long before I knew Alvin would need surgery. He is getting his stitches out in the morning. One thing that I did not quite figure out yet is how to get him there. We are not walking as it is muddy and wet. I do not wish to get his belly dirty before the stitches come out. I guess that I have a week to see if I can get us a ride. Hopefully if this weather – most of the ice and snow will have melted and the sidewalks will be dry.

Reminder to myself to be grateful to be alive. Grateful for our health and our home. Grateful for our family and friends. Grateful to be employed and so grateful that I am able to work from home. I would have had to use a minimum of two weeks with Alvin over his appointments and surgery. There is always a silver lining to every story. We often times, lose sight of that or at least last night I did for sure. Grateful for this life as it is all mine, no matter what.

Well time to go and plus in the coffee and get set up for work. Training is ahead of me. First time for me doing virtually with someone. Coffee will taste extra special this morning.

Remembering each moment of each day to be, to show kindness, respect, compassion and patience with gratitude.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Thursday the 19th day of October, 2017.

Another gorgeous day on the way and with luck with a tad less wind.

Have to share my Wednesday story as this all happened after I left from home and after I wrote my blog.

As I walk up to the entrance to our office building, I come across one of my co-workers with her travel mug in one hand and a Tim Horton’s coffee in the other.

She smiled and handed my the Tim Horton’s coffee and said “this is for you.”

For no reason ….. not my birthday ….. no special occasion ….. just because she is thoughtful.

I was so touched …..

Now this would have been the best way to start a work day BUT then after almost reaching my desk …. another co-worker … held out his hand with a bagged “apple danish” from McDonald’s…. Would you like this?

I said sure …. as I had my hands full …. he placed it on my desk.

Could not have been a better start to the work day to be sure.

Our office was closed to the public and I was to attend along with some of my immediate co-workers a training seminar on “deescalating situations.”

I was a bit intimidated by the whole role playing and the fact that I was missing quiet time at my desk.

To have no phones and no interruptions at work is always a good way to get work completed.

But into the training I realized that this was in fact most valuable.

I learned two things:

  1. that at 60, I had learned and knew how to react to escalated situations.
  2. and that at 60, I still had room to learn new ways to react to escalated situations.

No matter your age – there is always something new to learn, and we can always be taught something new.

After a long day of role playing and waiting around while our team-mates took their turns …. the day was over.

I walked to the bus – happy to get home to me Alvin.

Shortly after I made it to the bus stop …. my new friend E.Z. arrived at the stop.

It was not long after that when two of the buses that we can catch, pulled up….

The first bus appeared to be full so we walked to the second bus and that is when I heard “Carol” ….. hey that was my name.

As I looked a couple of vehicles behind the bus there were the OILERS FLAGS blowing the wind and my friend in the red vehicle.

I said good night to my other friend and ran over to the red vehicle.

Surprised to see her – she explained that her son was working late and she thought as she had to go right here anyway …. she would take the chance.

CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?

What a lucky day.

Unbelievable.

Coffee / Apple Danish / Learn New Things / Ride Home

Great Day.

Now this Thursday is going to be amazing.  I can just tell.

Perhaps I should check my LOTTO Ticket ???

OMG.

Special Hello to:  all those folks over 60 – still learning new things.

Always, Carol & Alvin
