The New YEAR 2022

Good Morning ALL! How are you this morning? We are well. Ready, to begin a new week. The temperatures are warming up and that is so exciting. The possibility of walks at noon break and after work are making me feel wonderful. It has been weeks or likely over a month now since we went for a walk outside. Both Alvin and I are feeling the effects of not much exercise. So this will be good for the both of us, for our bodies and for our minds and souls. What do you do for exercise in the coldest months of the year? Perhaps you live in a place where the coldest months just mean switching sweatpants or some full length pant and a light jacket for going outside OR do you live somewhere with no changes in your weather or very little OR do you live in the Northern Hemisphere where we need to have several different types of outerwear. In Canada, in Western Canada where I live, we actually need multiple winter coats and even sometimes need to wear snowpants (lined outer pants that go on top of your regular pants). We need warm toques to cover our heads with a hood on our coats, warm scarves and warm mitts or gloves in addition to the coats and pants. During our winter months our temperatures can range from plus 10 celsius (not normal but happens) to minus 50 degrees celsius and then there can be the windchill factor. So sometimes the actual temperature outside is minus 20 celsius with the windchill it can feel like minus 30 celsius. We are going from minus 30 temperatures to minus 4 to plus 2-4 this week and into the next week. Now those figures may change. But you see the difference. So obviously you need different outerwear / apparel. I have found that it is a good idea to have your coat a size larger so that when it is so cold outside you can layer sweaters underneath. Not everyone in this country has the means to have so many different pieces of outside clothing so sometimes you have to use common sense or even your imagination. Also winter boots are very important. You have to keep your feet warm. Again, sometimes better that your boots are a little loose to add another layer or socks. Most people have a pair for those cold days and then another pair for those REALLY bitterly cold days. Everything should be waterproof if possible – especially your boots. I have several kinds of mitts and gloves. Another important part of the body to keep warm. The elements in Canada can be brutal in winter and it is easy to get frostbite if you are not careful. Listening to the weather reports before you go outside is also very important. I hope that this does not frighten those folks who read this and are not living in Canada. We have the best country on the planet. Of course, it is not perfect here but pretty darn close. One thing I heard on the weather channel last night that kind of did frighten me a bit was climate change and how much it is affecting Canada. They said two times more than any other country on the planet. I do believe that we are doing serious damage and perhaps even irreparable damage to our beautiful blue planet. On that note, I am going to sign off for today. Food for thought. Do what you can. It is time. If we all work together there is hope that we can save our home, our planet. It is worth the extra work, don’t you think?

Continuing to live this life with kindness, respect, compassion, patience, love, laughter, understanding, gratitude, focus and possibilities.

2021

Good Morning ALL. How are you today? Wednesday. Midweek once again. Surely seems like the weeks fly by. Sometimes during the day we may not think so but when you look at the day of the week it certainly does. Funny story, yesterday after work I had just put on my winter boots and was going to put on my winter coat, mitts etc. to go out and shovel Sonja’s front sidewalk (neighbors in other half had done mine earlier) when I noticed the name and phone number of my Optometrist’s office flash across my SMART TV. I thought that is odd as I had given them my cell number and told them that that number was no longer in service. With boots on I ran quickly to grab my cell phone and call them. The receptionist asked me if I could hold and I of course said yes. While I patiently waited to see if my new glasses were in. A few minutes later she came back on the line and I explained about the phone number and got them all updated including my work number which I had forgotten about. These days an appointment is required to do anything so I set one up for this Saturday at 1:30 p.m. with the knowledge that the temperature is supposed to be warmer or at least that is what the weather guy said. In the morning I am hosting a birthday party for one of my neighbours and friend – there will be three of us in attendance. The three of us. We are going to have the party in my garage. I don’t have a car so I have lots of room for social distancing and I have comfortable furniture that I can set out and a table. I will be doing some rearranging on Friday night. So Saturday will be exciting. Friends over and we have not had a visit in person for a long time. Also new glasses. YAY. Oh, after the phone call – I went out and shovelled my neighbours sidewalk. What goes around comes around, I always say.

Well as Mr. Alvin is very anxious to go back downstairs and perhaps he has to go outside, I will repost a poem that I wrote many years ago, actually almost ten. I am feeling very grateful, very thankful this morning. There is so much more I could add to this poem but it does say what is in my heart. Thank you.

Living … One day at a time.

Good Morning and WELCOME TO WINTER.

We had some snow over the course of the evening and just before bed; I swept the blanket that was covering the deck.

Awoke to several inches warming the deck.

So safe to say we have winter.

Unlikely at this point that it will melt and actually I prefer to have it just cold enough to keep the snow from melting and creating a slushy mess.

Now that being said …. just a bit more …. would certainly be enough.

Lucky for us we had a wonderful walk last night.

It was really mild and no wind.

Perfect for walking.

As we approached Teddy’s house last night … I had to stop Alvin for making a beeline to his house.

But just as I was doing that …. Teddy spotted us from an upstairs window ….. there was no turning back at that point.

He started barking and jumping up and down.

Teddy was happy to see his friend and me.

So we went to the door and rang the doorbell.

As soon as I did …. Alvin started to bark.

Teddy’s Aunt came to the door.

She was happy to see us and figured it just wasn’t anyone walking by and she was right. LOL.

It was Teddy’s BF Alvin and his Mom.

Teddy practically jumped into my arms.

He just kept staring deep into my  eyes as though he had not seen me for a long time.

So cute.

We had a nice visit.

Alvin found one of Ted’s chew treats and went to work on that while we chatted.

J was making some soup using up items from the fridge.

After a nice visit and once Alvin was done with the chew treat, we headed out for home.

Life is always better when you have a friend.

I still had to make supper and no leftovers to be had.

I made a simple chili and some oven roasted sweet potato pieces.

We had a nice evening ….

I guess it would be winter boot wearing day today.

Must remember to put a pair of shoes in a bag.

Happy Tuesday to Everyone.

If we treat others with kindness and respect; we will be treated with kindness and respect.

Wishing those who need some extra positive energy …. a good day.

I wished that I had the power to heal.

My heart goes out to each and every one of you on this day.

Be well.

Be safe.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Tuesday the 5th day of February, 2019.

I forgot to wish my niece “M” a very Happy 22nd Birthday for yesterday, February 4th.

We hope that you had a magical day.

Welcome back to the deep freeze.

Appears this may last for several days.

We folks that work inside warm buildings are grateful and we think of those souls that work outside so that we may work inside in the warmth.

From Farmers to Constructions to Oil Rig Workers and everything in between, thank you.

Thank you to my sister for reminding me of those who work outside.

Well two more sleeps until Mr. Alvin’s surgery.

I know that it will all go well.

But still it is surgery on my boy.

Positive thoughts.

I am so grateful to my friend and neighbour for giving me rides to work yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Just catching the bus home is okay.

I am very blessed.

Yesterday the bus driver called ahead when we were at West Edmonton Mall asking 119/117 to please wait for passengers.

The 119 was still there when we arrived (very late) and I would imagine it was late as well.

A young passenger and myself hoped off the bus ahead of the others and ran to the 119, yes, I ran.

Just as we were arriving at the 119 he started to pull away …. we both waved.

He pulled over and we got onto the bus.

I could not believe after all of that, he pulled away as we ran to the bus in full view of the driver.

What a guy.

But happy that in the end he did pull over.

Still was 20 minutes late getting home but at least I did not have to wait likely another 20 minutes for the next bus.

Felt blessed at that moment.

Well getting close to time to leave the house.

Still have to do the poop pickup before I leave.

Poor Alvin having to go outside in this bitterly cold weather.

I will say this …. he does not stay out long …. does his thing and back into the house.

I wait right at the back door for him, just in case I need to go and help him.

Emergency kits in the vehicle.

Layers while outside.

Pull those big WARM boots out of the closet – you are not making a fashion statement this week in most part of CANADA.

You just want to stay warm and retain all your digits and your life.

Be kind to your pets.

They are living breathing animals such as we, don’t leave them outside in these frigid temperatures.

Doesn’t matter …. just bring them into the house.

Watch the kiddos for signs of frostbite.

Drive them to school.

Or maybe keep them home (most of the buses are cancelled anyway).

Happy Tuesday.

Special Hello to: my family and friends.  Keep warm…..

Thought for the day ….

Good Morning and Welcome to Friday the 14th day of September, 2018.

WOW, is it almost mid point of September.

Seems like only yesterday it was the first day.

We woke up to no additional rain/snow so that is good.

It is extra warm in the house so  am thinking it did not cool off much last night.

I caved and turned on the furnace a few days ago as it just was not worth freezing or having to always have socks and a sweater on.

I pay the bill so figured why not.

I keep the temperature at a constant temperature so it will be okay.

I am grateful that it is Friday and tonight my daughter is giving me a ride home.

Carpool has an appointment this afternoon so is not able to drive me home.

I always love spending anytime with my daughter.

All that time is extra precious.

Alvin is laying on his blue blanket.

It is a habit now.

Along with having a massage everyday.

Funny how that works.

I need to form a new habit and get on doing some pilates and yoga.

No time like the present to start something new.

Was thinking yesterday that we kind of skipped fall and went right to winter.

I changed my door wreath from summer to fall.

We are not even officially finished with summer, fall has not come to the calendar yet and winter officially does not come until December?

Not quite ready for the winter one yet.

My poor sunflowers are drooped over and looking so sad.

Grass and trees are mostly still green under the skiff of snow.

Not totally covering the ground.

Sidewalks and streets appear to be dry.

Looks I know can be deceiving but I will soon find out.

Does it sound like I am babbling?

Well I kind of am.

Just typing what comes to my mind.

Isn’t that more fun?

Just to see what DOES come to mind.

You never know.

I am excited to see my young girl friends for coffee here at my house on Sunday.

Haven’t seen them for what seems like forever.

I guess this will be the weekend to switch closets over although I was thinking of doing something different.

Leaving all tops in my bedroom closet and placing all dresses/skirts/pants/jeans/shorts in the spare room closet.

Might be a nice change.

There are so many things that I wear all year long.

Time to put away sandals and bring up winter boots, argh.

Winter coats, scarves, mitts and hats, yuck.

I pulled out a pair of mini gloves and have been wearing them the past couple of days.

Please do not think that I am not grateful to have more than one winter coat, mitts, hats and scarves and winter boots; I am most grateful.

Just seems so early to be wearing those items.

Although next week is still forecasting to be in the teens and that will feel like summer once again.

Well time to finish getting ready for work.

I hope that you have an awesome day.

I have lots to do at work and am going to get SO MUCH done today.

Feels like a great day.

No interruptions.

That would be lovely and perfection.

Special Hello to: my friend “V” who is always busy and one of the most thoughtful people on the planet.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day ……

Good Morning and Welcome to Saturday the 30th day of September, 2017.

The last day of September and possibly the last day without snow.

If the forecast is correct.

Hopefully it is only a temporary situation for now as it is far too early for winter.

After all we are still enjoying FALL in all of its’ GLORY.

I love this time of year.

Our tree in the front year is full of the most beautiful YELLOW leaves.

It is windy out this morning so they may not hang on for too much longer.

But I hope so.

I do love watching the leaves slowly dancing their way to the ground.

Not so much a fast trip to the ground in a big wind.

WE are off to a bit of a later start this morning.

Alvin’s internal clock is all over the place.

We were up off and on several times since 4:00 a.m. – yikes.

Anyway sipping on coffee with breakfast out of the way, dishwater emptied, bed made and laundry gathered we are well on the way.

I have a major project to get done today and that is the back garden.

I have to remove all of the rocks today so that I may plant some irises that my friend “P” gave us last night.

She gave me some others and I planted them out front last night and cleaned up the flower bed …. trimmed the plants all back.

So that is done.

Well I had better get going.

One more thing to mention.

While catching 45 zzz’s on the sofa just before getting up for real ….. I was dreaming that my friend “H” and “R” from Regina were outside, trying to get my attention but I did not hear them with water running in the

house ….. finally realized someone was calling my name.  We laughed and they gave me “heck” for not hearing them sooner.  Surprised that it took so long for Alvin to notice as well.

They had with them a bucket of KFC chicken and some other items that I now have forgot.  Came into the house and all of a sudden another friend was there sitting at my table “D.”  My longtime friend.

It was so bizarre.

What is the meaning of this, I wonder.

Well it for some reason filled me with energy so that is a good thing.

Gave me some ideas on some future projects.

I also watched “SARAH” OFF THE GRID while eating breakfast and sipping on the first cup of coffee.

That also gave me ideas.

Not time to get going.

Those rocks are not going to move on their own and neither is the laundry going to magically wash.

Have an awesome day.

Life is great …. you just have to live it.

Took a few vacation hours from work yesterday afternoon.

It was great.

Oh, I found new winter boots at West Edmonton Mall.

I found them at the most unlikely place for me to go.

PAYLESS.

The associate was simply amazing.

Friendly and helpful.

After I checked out SEARS and THE BAY and MARKS and a few others.

It was great to find a pair that are made for minus 20 ( I have ones for the really cold).

Best of all in my price range.

No rush and I was home one hour before normal so Alvin was happy.

A bit warm and I was dressed way too warm but I had fun.

Nice to be able to look around.

Time to get this show on the road.

Wish me luck “rock picking” ….. AKA remove the rocks from the back flower bed.

ARGH.

Good for the core …..

Have an awesome Saturday.

Special Hello to:  my friends back in Saskatchewan “ALL OF THEM” and my sister.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Tuesday the 18th day of April, 2017.

Well I saw a few mini snowballs escaping from the sky and coming down to earth.

It is dark with the overcast sky.

They are forecasting more snow ….. ARGH.

All I can think of is the poor little ROBINS in all this snow and colder temperatures.

I hope that they will be okay.

Well did you all have a wonderful weekend?

Mine was very nice …… mostly just hanging out with me Alvin.

Nothing wrong with that …..

To be honest I could have done things around the house but I chose to just do the necessities and to just relax.

It was great to have HODA KOTB back to the Today Morning Show with Kathie Lee Gifford.

She is one happy Momma.

So happy for her and Joel.

So back to work this morning.

Back to our routine.

Nothing like a routine.

Well it is almost time to leave for work.

I will be wearing my winter boots and coat (be prepared, I always say).

There is the potential for lots of snow and I do not wish to ruin my shoes.

Happy Tuesday ……

Special Hello to: my family and friends all over the world.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Monday the 3rd day of April, 2017.

Yay, guess what?

Mr. Alvin did not wake up until 4:45 a.m. which is 15 minutes before the alarm goes off.

WOW.

First time in I would say months leading to year(s).

Happy Momma this morning.

Happy at least until I turned on the outside light to let Mr. Alvin outside only to see “white fluffy stuff” floating gently to the earth.

Argh ….. really …… the snowbank from my front lawn had almost disappeared.

I am guessing that it will not hang around but nevertheless really ….. could it just rain.

Oh well …..

We had a great weekend.

Did you know that you could freeze pancakes?

I did not know until my neighbour told me.

Last weekend when I made pancakes …. way too many, of course.

I layered the leftovers ones between sheets of parchment paper and then into a zip lock bag placing a paper towel around the ends.

Into the microwave and they were almost like freshly made.

Good thing to know ….. now I will not have to eat them for several days so that they do not go to waste.

Happy Momma.

Last night I did the SKYPE visit with my sister who is planning a trip to South America with her long-time friend.

Actually not planning they leave at the end of this week.

How exciting.

I feel happy this morning.

Do I know that it is Monday?

Yes, I do.

Does it matter?

No, it does not.

Happy Monday Everyone.

One thing …. I put all of my winter jackets into the closet in the basement so that they can be cleaned in the fall for the next one.

Washed up my winter scarves and mitts and hats and into a rubbermaid container to keep clean.

One pair of boots remain in the front hall closet – just in case.

You never know.

I hear that down east they are having a wicked amount of the white stuff.

Not good.

Well here it is time to leave for the bus once again.

Mondays seem to come just as quickly as Fridays do.

Time just goes ….. in record time…..

Have a great Monday.

Special Hello to: my family and friends back in Regina.

Always, Carol & Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Monday the 6th day of February, 2017.

It is COLD, COLD out there this morning in Edmonton.

Double digits below – 26 degrees celsius.

Poor Mr. Alvin had to take two runs at it to get outside.

He did his business very quickly.

Poor little guy.

I am grateful to have a warm coat, mitts, scarf and boots for the cold walk to the bus.

What a great weekend.

Yesterday we just spent inside except for some shovelling and I had to watch Alvin as it was so cold and he could only be outside for a minute or so.

Did some cleaning and watched a couple of movies.

I watched “Mother’s Day” with Julia Roberts, Jennifer Anniston, Kate Hudson and so many great actors.

I laughed and I cried.

It was a good movie.

Perfect for a Sunday afternoon.

Well it is almost time to hit the road ….. the cold ….. argh.

There are times these these when I wished that I was retired.

Oh well, it is all good.

Thank you Universe for a great weekend.

I had time with my girl, an outing, time with my boy, did some cleaning and laundry and made some jewellery and I RELAXED.

Perfect.

Have a great Monday.

Special Hello to: my sister ….. shall we SKYPE soon …..

Always, Carol and Alvin

Thought for the day …..

Good Morning and Welcome to Tuesday the 5th day of April, 2016.

Wow, we woke up to snow.

Just a coverlet of the white stuff covering the deck.

Just enough to throw Alvin out of his routine.

He did not want to walk on the deck.

He stepped out so gingerly …. lifting each paw gently as he made his way across the deck and down the steps to his green patch.

Well not so green at the moment.

He is so darn cute.

I guess after all it is Spring and anything can happen.

After 22 degrees on Saturday to snow on Tuesday.

I am pleased that I left my snow boots and winter jacket in the closet by the front door.

It is not cold out but I have been cold on the bus so I will pop it on.

The temperature is not to be super warm today anyway.

Boots or shoes, that is the question.

There isn’t much now but there could be.

I brought my shoes home from work so would have to carry a pair to work.

Oh well I have 10 minutes or so to make that HUGE decision.

I am smiling ….. as it is not such a big decision.

But always good to have a giggle at this time of day.

I am happy or not but we had 30 minutes on the sofa this morning to rest.

I have been dreaming and not able to settle down at night so that helped me feel a bit rested.

Well I hope that wherever you go today, and whatever you may be doing that the NEWS is all good.

You deserve good news and today is the day.

Me and Alvin – Alvin and I wish you good health and love on this Tuesday.

Throw in a pinch of laughter and life is perfect.

Happy Tuesday Everyone.

Special Hello to: everyone out there who has an appointment today – good news – good news, it will be good news.

Always, Carol and Alvin
